Nice--it's so satisfying when you can finally do enough damage to take the Chosen down in one turn. Gunners become such beasts once they are fully promoted.

Is the unexpired loot in the ground, automatically taken or lost when mission ends ?
On any mission where you have to evac, it's lost. Generally on the ones that just end when you finish the objectives, you get it. In LWOTC, those are basically the 'full salvage' missions.
You will automatically take it if you do not evac, if you need to evac, it is gone :/
