Hello Andrew 🙂 This is a major step forward in the house build. Great choice in selecting the windows as they beautifully frame your gorgeous views. Outstanding job! God Bless.
Thank you very much, God bless!
Congrats...they look great!
After watching you prep the frames & install the windows...it has given me the confidence to attempt to repair the window & frame that holds my A/C unit.
There has been some wet-rot that occurred over the last 10 years so it has to be done soon...and it helps that the temps are getting lower :)
Yes cool outside and lack of rain during this time of year is a great time to tear into that project.
You’re making us all “UA-cam pros”for years to come! Hopefully you are getting the same enjoyment out of making these videos as we are watching them! This is the only channel I watch religiously. Keep ‘em coming!
Me too! I never miss Andrew’s videos.
Thank you very much for the support and kind words. I absolutely love making these videos, we are all learning through my successes and failures.
Awesome job Andrew! I will definitely use your videos as "how to". Looking great!
Love seeing the windows installed. It’s really coming together nicely. Great job!
Thank you for watching
You really have to love that a guy who knows nothing shows more than the manufacture companies show well done my friend
The windows are awesome, they really make your build look like a home. I can't wait to see the difference drywall makes.
That drywall is going to be the biggest change in my opinion. Can't wait to see that myself.
Nice windows. Like the no bars down the window. It really opens them up for the view!
Yeah at first I wasn't sure about it, I've always had windows with designs. Now I'm happy they are clear.
You said you were surprised that you got all the windows in. Andrew you shouldn’t underestimate yourself. You are very good at what you do. With everything else you have done by YOURSELF I was not one bit surprised that you got it done. The house is looking great. God bless
Thank you very much for the kind words. Take care and God bless!
Andrew, when God was giving gifts and skills to people, He gave you an abundance! You're a one man building company:))) So happy for the progress!!!
Thank you very much, I am very blessed with family, health and a get it done attitude.
Great job Andrew. I'll admit I hated seeing you have to take the windows back apart after working so hard to get them together but man they look really good installed.
It's OK, that's part of doing this by myself.
Great video !!! Love the choice of windows. Coming along beautifully. Keep up the great work
Thank you for watching
Streach a old sock over the mallet to get rid of the marks. Looking good.
Thank you so much for creating this video. Have been replacing my windows in south Florida. I need to mull two windows together and this was great insight! outdoor bar looks great too btw!!
Thank you for watching
Wow I’m truly impressed with the way you figured out how to put those windows in:) it’s really looking great:) tfs stay safe and God Bless:)
God bless
Nice job, now that there are two videos to watch on mull bar installation on UA-cam I can be a profession now.
thanks!.
Lol OK then! 😉
Just take the glass panes out then reinstall the glass when the frames are in place. it makes the window a lot lighter and easier to work with.
Yep I wish I had of thought about that in the moment 🤦
Dang! Looks really good! can’t wait to see the transom windows go in!
Me too!
Nice windows. I did jeldwen in my previous house. They were awesome
Great job Andrew. Coming right along.
Thank you
That looked like a tough job. They came out great and again one man can get r done! Enjoyed it Andrew.
At first is was a little aggravating, but I got it figured out. Being a one man band I have to be resourceful. Take care, have a good one!
I noticed that you trimmed the welded corners of the windows after you removed the nail fin. There is actually no need to do that. That weld is taken into consideration with the window width when ordering. That is why the mull pack takes up 1 1/8" of space instead of the 1" that is the call out. Also trimming that weld could lead to unwanted leaking into the structure if trimmed too closely. Also removing the bottom sashes makes the windows a lot less cumbersome, and more maneuverable.
Shannon, your comment is very helpful. At age 75 I am about to embark on 3 wide (24 / 48 / 24) x 48 high and plan to do (mostly myself) to a 1950's home. Fortunately the opening looks like 48 x 96, so it should work well & possibly stock Jed Wen windows from Menards.
Nice miniproject. You save a lot of money with it. On dealing with the weight you could remove the upper and lower windows them, then once you have secured the frame roughly in place, put the windows back in.
Oh one more suggestion from experience. Several of my uncles always worked top down in order of window (and glass door) installation. One of the reason they did that... I recall when I was 10 or so watching one of my uncles drop a sawzall while installing an upper window..and he made to grab it..and it wound up being knocked through as in smashing through the lower window for the first floor. Since you already installed the lowers, maybe use some scrap plywood to cover them when the uppers are installed. Its not likely that anyone will break them but better safe than sorry.
Good points!
You need to use a more messy caulk , when it gets all over everything and all over your hands and shirt ,then you’re ready to put the window in. I know I’ve put hundreds in
Looks good. Hopefully you can get the trapezoid windows soon. Then siding, and it will really look like progress.
Just scheduled the install today for the custom windows. Hopefully 8n a little over a week I'll have you a video.
Oh yes we bought the last 4 windows Home Depot had in our area it’s pretty crazy getting certain things right now. We wanted single hung can’t find any. 🤔👍💞
Been unreal for 18 months, windows pop up and then vanish.
Good evening Andrew. Watching from Jamaica 🇯🇲🙏. See u are moving full speed
Thank you for watching, doing my best!
@@TKCL you are a trooper Andrew. I just looooveed the way you go about building this house. Nothing is left to chances.
Yay! Windows! Way to go! Chris should be happy.
Looking great. Just think, the doors get installed and top windows get installed, you be working with hardly any outside noise. God Bless
That's coming! Got my installation date scheduled today. Take care and God bless
Aaahhh, Windows, the eyes to the soul....oh wait, it's the other way around...BUT either way a great milestone Andrew, looking good.
Thank you for watching
the windows look great. Hopefully your doors arrive on schedule and you can get them installed. Great job.
I got them today! 😉🤫
@@TKCL now get them and that the last few windows installed to the place is sealed up.
That's right! Working on it!
@@TKCL outstanding. Things are going pretty quickly now, congratulations. Looking forward to the door installation video.
The windows look good Andrew!! Great video, Thanks 🇨🇦
Thank you
I guess I don’t understand what goes on down your way with window shortage but here in the great state of Texas I ordered 16 windows 17 days ago and there installing them Monday so we are doing fine
For the last 18 months windows have been anywhere from 16-20 weeks out if you order. For these basic windows, you have to get extremely lucky and find them in stock.
You're going want to pull the stickers off the window. Especially if you've got special coatings. The sun can cause some issues so the sooner you can get the coating off and the stickers the less likely you might end up with designs in your glass.
Good to know, I was told the inspector needed to verify and to leave the stickers on. But, my inspector does not seem that picky. I'll remove them, especially since these are tinted windows.
Wow, that is really looking good!! Quality job.
Thank you
Awesome job looks solid.
Thank you
Great job Andrew your house is going to be amazing..
Thank you very much
take the bottom window out. Most have sash release clips that allow you to remove them. Takes half the weight out.
Yes very true.
Beautiful view😍
Friday night semi-pro in training. I'm watching.
Even though you are not there yet. On UA-cam check out how Finish CarpentryTV trims out his interior windows. Watching you and seeing how particular you are. His installation is very precise and will fit you style
Those look amazing! Using the same kits! Trying to do this myself- but stuck on calculating rough openings of two windows! I’ve searched for details but all I find is mulled windows should be 3/4 narrower than RO!
Looks like my rough opening (hard to tell with trim) is 73 inches wide to allow fitment with the mull bar installed.
@@TKCL thank you!!!
Looking good. That sucks that you had to pull it apart to install.
I think I missed something here. You said there were holes in the mulling bar that corresponded with the holes in the window. Did these get screwed together at some point? If not, I'm not sure how you would install them together from the bench like you originally planned. Thanks!
No they do not screw together (although I did with my own screws). I think those holes are for access to remove the window for replacement or service at a later date of needed.
Helpful video,,,,but joining the windows to the mull bar is suppose to be done with self tapping screw from the inside of the window causing mull bar to sit flush against each side of the window per the illustration in the "instruction". And yes the instructions suck.. By using caulk to adhere both side of the mull bar, the caulk widened distance the plastic snapping trim is suppose to snap to, making it difficult snap that piece in as you showed. But there are many ways to skin a cat,,,and you got the job done.
Great job Andrew!
Thank you
I am currently trying to install 3 aluminum Ply-Gem windows with Mull Bars and what a royal pain! I set the first one in with the mull bar in place. Then when I set the second window on the sill the two windows touch at the top with a 3/4" gap at the bottom.
I have a side gap between the framing and the first window and have it resting on the sill with just one screw securing it at top center. It is driving me bonkers as to why the two are not mating up.
Yikes, do both windows measure the same?
@@TKCL After another trip to Home Depot it was determined that 2 of the 3 windows were out of square. Tomorrow hopefully there will be windows in place.
Wow, that's horrible. Sorry to hear that.
@@TKCL Well it turns out the two windows measured 69-1/4 by 69-1/2. So swapped them out with ones that measured square. Just tried putting the first two in and same dang problem. They meat at the top but not at the bottom. Used a laser lever and the first window was plumb.
No idea at this point what the correct cure is. But if I can get all three in the opening and they open and close with no effort I am calling it good and just buying more trim to cover up the weird gaps.
@@dremwolf5419 I'm sure you have already installed the windows but if you are resting the windows on the sill maybe the sill is not level? You need to use shims between window bottom and sill to level it.
Hi, Andrew! I know you and Tiffany are extremely excited. I am just about giddy myself. Really taking shape. I love it when a plan comes together. I keep trying to remember to ask you if you will install the trapezoid windows or will the company that is fabricating them do the installation?
They are several hundred pounds each, so I opted to have the company install them. That's too much if a risk for me to do by myself.
@@TKCL I totally agree. I was worried about you doing the installation. I didn’t want you to get injured. I am relieved. Now I can breathe again.
I like your obsession disorder because that means stuff gets done absolutely the best way it could.
Looking really good.
Thanks!
Hi Andrew,
Great video! Very helpful! I'm planning to replace a triple window in the living room (3, double-hung) and was struggling to figure out how they go together. Now I know!
Question about the challenges of installing the molding strips (around 6 minutes in): I realize this is years after the fact so you can't test it. Do you think it would work to "compress" it into place? Start at one end and "squash" it in with a ratcheting clamp. Protect the molding on top, and the frame on the bottom with some flat wood. Once the first couple of inches are in place it might be possible to hammer it in, one inch at a time, working along the length. Thoughts?
Thanks, Rob
Here's the better tip, remove the bottom windows via the quick remove clips provided and the weight in half. I didn't think about d4ipo6the bottom halves out.
Most informative Chanel on utube your are very intelegent
Thank you very much, learning as I go and trying to share.
Thanks for the video. Good job! Trouble finding where to buy the mull bar, remember by chance where bought it? Thanks!
At Lowes in the window section.
you have a lot of patience. I would’ve just grabbed a 2 x 6 and some zip boards scraps. Lol
I've gained a lot more patience as I left my 20s behind... 40s coming up quick 😔
@@TKCL lol. I’m 53 and I’m still working on it. 😂😂
Understand that!
Windows look great.
Thank you
Looking great.
Thank you
Nice!
Looking great 👍🏻
Thanks
The windows are finally beginning to make it look like a home.
Yes
Wait wait wait a minute I have offered to help you all the time and you told me you like to work alone !!!! Oh and the house looking good I think you will be done b4 your thinking
We shall see, things are about to speed up.... Then slow down for all the details like, electrical, trim, painting, cabinets ect
Great video, how much did it change the dimension of the window, ie 2 windows 36x54, did it become 73x54?
Correct, 1 inch for the mull bar. Don't forget to leave a 1/4 inch gap all the way around.
Great job👍
Thank you
The windows look good
Thank you
do i have to use the aluminum bracket in a replacement install in a block home with a tile sill? It will look terrible..
That aluminum bracket top and bottom is what gives you wind sheer resistance and keeps the center of the windows from flexing. . I sure wouldn't skip that step. You can notch out the underside of the tile with a diamond wheel on a angle grinder to fit over the aluminum brackets.
@@TKCL I found out the bracket for my Jeld Wen mull goes directly under the windows, so it will not be an issue after all. thanks for the reply though.
It is really coming along! i've been watching for so long I can't wait to see the end product.
What made you decide on that type of window and not a full pane of glass? was it because of the weather? or building codes?
Price and availability.... Got to work with whatever is available nowadays
@@TKCL I completely understand. I work in technology and in a school district. so whatever is available is very familiar.
nice!
How do you like the JeldWen windows so far. I have considered these also. Lowes has decent in stock sizes. Did you get the impact or standard ones?
Standard ones, no complaints thus far. Everything operates nice and smooth, the tinted glass is nice too. Can't beat the price.
great video
Thank you for watching
What series jeld wen did you install. How do they perform? Are you satisfied with them? Almost every expert installer ive spoke with recommend me to avoid jen weld. But these windows fit my budget for the amount of windows i need. They look like a nice window to me for the price
I did the basic vinyl windows that Lowes keeps in stock. Almost 3 years later and no issues.
Nice windows
Thanks
Great video! Was this a universal mulling kit? Or was it specific to your windows? It came really nice! Thanks!
Specific to my windows
Woo hoo! 👋
🙋
The no grid windows look good. What's the latest on the sheetrock?
Still waiting for a definitive start date 🤷
Windows look great.... curious why you didn't just get the windows premade together when you ordered them?
Never seen that as a option for basic windows. Plus for the last 18 months windows have been extremely hard to find. I had to grab what was available when I finally found them. I'm being quoted 18-20 weeks right now for windows 😳
@@TKCL our big windows like that I ordered from home depot they came pretty made
Can all windows be mulled? When ever I look at windows, it says N/A on mull
No I don't believe they can, unless you make a custom mull bar.
to make the windows easy you can remove the lower window
Very good point! 🤦
You should take the sashes out to make installing easier. You and your wife could easily install them that way.....without having to put the window together in the opening.
Very good point!
Installing the way you did is not easy. I anticipated problems, but you did great.
One thing.....that groove around the outermost edge is not a drip groove but rather a groove for vinyl extension flanges that they make in a few sizes for different applications......like brick, etc. It also is used as a place to mount a "zero mull" kinda like you used, but in vinyl and adds no width to the two windows.
See if you can foam inside the mulling bar.
I can....
yes I've got some Farmers up here in the Smokies you don't speak English or read instructions, it makes it real hard for me to install this stuff🙁
Perfect timing as closing the house in during the summer would have made it miserable to work in there.
Yes it would have!
can come up if you want some help from ocala.
Appreciate the offer, I'm hard headed and like working a lone. Plus I'm OCD and hard to work with 😁
Andrew did you say the bar between the windows got screwed into each window wasn't sure thxs
On some windows yes, these models didn't have screw holes. I'll admit I drilled and made some myself. Took the screen out and shot a couple screws into that track, into the bar. Otherwise the holes that were in the bar are for clearance or access to the window screws that already exist.
@@TKCL Thank you 😎
Ok - You have me curious. You have "over done" so many things why didn't you insulate inside the metal tubing in the middle of the windows? You have thin plastic, then metal (a thermal conductor) and then plastic. Where is the insulation? I was expecting you to stuff the pipe with insulation, styrofoam or spray foam to keep the R-Value up. Is that really a good Air Leak prevention system. I know you put in silicone but will that keep out the drafts?
I am, I wanted to do it with more insulative closed cell foam. I am out of it and have already ordered several cans. The top and the bottom of the bar is still open from the outside and I can inject the foam with my gun. Foam is set to arrive middle of the week.
I would have foam filled those metal bars. cold will transfer through that metal
Not a issue, still can from the outside. I'm not done!
What kind of caulk did you use?
Alex plus with silicone siding caulk. Has good sealing and flex properties.
Where is the link to this kit?
No link, I grabbed it at Lowes in the window section.
Hey bud for em plastic Mark's you get a tennis ball and all black marks gone. No joke. Old trick to even clean floors from scuffs
Nice! A magic erase takes this right off too. I'll keep the tennis ball trick filed away for later use.
@@TKCL in commercial cleaning if you see a tennis ball on a broom handle you now know why. My 2 Favorite shows that are simillar but diffrent is you and a simple life. They are a couple that are building a house as well and they are also doing a farm project. Love her editing skills and simple words of wisdom as well.
I watch that show occasionally (if we are talking about the same one) and I agree, their editing is something to behold. People just don't understand or appreciate the time that goes into making that many videos and of that quality.
@@TKCL editing it for a guy like me would be easy. But I don't like to be on camera. I hot the skills yo do all what you doing in 1/10 the time. But no interest in filming myself.
I'm still learning, but it makes a job take way longer to film and work.
I'm going to stop you already at 2.47
I'm in South Carolina and these have to be impact resistant windows with impact resistant frames and I'm assuming an impact resistant mull
H.E.L.P. someone.......
Not a hard job 🤙🏾
Can you install two windows stacked on top of each other
I am not sure if they make bar for doing that. You could probably frame out in wood and accomplish that.
Cover the rubber mallet with painters tape…
I like that, filing that tip away for later.
Love the videos and I can appreciate OCD! Do it once and done!
That bar insulated then also?
Negative but it will be, it's hollow top and bottom. I just ordered more closed cell foam and will fill the bar up with insulation.
@@TKCL I got a window that’ll need to replace that’s just as big of an opening as you have or bigger. Nice to know what options I have now! Thanks for sharing
Thank you for watching
You didn't put the screws through the window and into the mull bar. I don't know where they go, which is why I searched this video.
I did put them in. Remove the screen, drill a hole through the window screen slot into the mull bar. Reinstall the screen and you can't see the screws. These are not factory pre drilled for this.
Please where can I get this mull bar kit?
I bought mine at Lowes in the window section.
@@TKCL thank you.
@@TKCL I wasn’t able to find it at Lowes. Do you know the brand?
@piorrumz5630 jeldwen
@@TKCL ok. Thank you.
Are your windows "Hurricane Rated?"
Negative, don't have to be. You have to be in a higher wind zone here and near the coast to be required to have impact rated windows.
O no..not "alexa" cawlk. That stuff cracks right out of the tube. It dosnt even work well for interior use.
plastic welding !!!!
Dude just take out sash
