Your taco test has been SO HELPFUL TO ME!!! I fell in love with peperomia obtusafolia about 6 months ago! I got 2 little plants and I've had to trim them a LOT because when the leaves touch, they begin growing wonky- and it just grows so fast! Every time I trimmed it, I put the leaf or stem into dirt and they all rooted fast and grown little baby shoots! So I'm going to have lots of babies to give my friends! I recently trimmed a larger stem and put it in water with a pothos cutting and within a week and a half I had tons of roots! I've had a 100% success rate propagating! This is 2nd place (to my golden pothos) when it comes to easy care, fast growth, and fast propagation.
I'm a reformed plant killer. Thanks to the taco test (and a new house with much more sunlight...) my obtusifolia is not only alive a year later but grew flower spikes last summer! Thanks Nick!
Hey... green thumb i had not til Nick's videos. His great information has my house a home for plants. I got a baby rubber tree like his last year and it gave me blooms as well. It is still growing and I really am most pleased to have it.
😂 Reformer plant killer ,that should be a thing the RPK reunions will be lit with people sharing stories about wen they killed that plant 10 years ago 😅,and Revindicating themself.
The Peperomia Elongata is so stunning. And I'm really impressed - that succulent/cactus soil mix looked like really great quality. Much better than anything I've seen in the shops, haha.
This is one of the most comprehensive and informative plant videos I’ve ever seen! Peperomia is one of the types of houseplants that I can never seem to get right and now I feel like I have a much better shot at keeping them alive
I have peperomia rotundifolia rn and damn she is a survivor . I almost killed it twice, got her repotted, she lost all her leaves and I thought it was dead but no. She is growing her new small cute leaves rn. I am in love
Nick, I've been following you for a while for your plant tips, but I have to say I Iove love LOVE your planters! They look aged and have so much character! You clearly put a lot of thought into how to display your plants in the best possible way.
@NickPileggi A word about petioles and propagation. For P. obtusifolia and P. albovitatta, I carefully cut the base of the leaf to expose the little veins. I found this produces more babies when propagated in water or vermiculite, particularly if the leaves tend to rot easily any other way.
I ALWAYS have to bottom water my pepperomia. I couldn’t understand why I kept murdering them so I started watering from the bottom and I have no issues now.
I never, ever repot into ceramic or other pots. All of my plants are in plastic pots set inside a cache pot. That way I can keep my favourite pots where I want them and change out the plants any time, plus I bottom water all, so it's way easier. I repot up into bigger plastic pots. I just don't see any advantage to potting other than a nursery or orchid type of plastic pot.
I own a bunch of Peperomia, they are my favorite genus and more interesting to me than gangly philodendron. That said I usually repot them immediately after buying because they are usually planted in peat. If I leave them in their nursery planter they get stem rot pretty quickly. So I would say that whether you should repot them or not after buying depends on the circumstances.
That was my question exactly. I feel like sometimes they stay too moist for too long if I leave them in the soil they came in. So reporting seems like the best way to me.
This is what iv learned for myself aswell couldn't figure out why I was killing everything I brought into my home and reporting and changing the soil has really been a game changer for me
Or they have the nets around the roots. Someone gave me a pink lady and she was struggling with it. I pulled it out and it had a net. Removed the net and she is flourishing. Even giving me flowers.
Thank you for this message. I almost lost mine and it makes sense to treat the succulent like ones the same as succulents. Just got a peperomia clusilifolia.
Those potting mixes!😍 I wish they were available in my country as they are exactly what I am seeking for epiphytic cactus such as epiphyllums. Another outstanding video, Nick, and I like how you're evolving into a conversational style with occasional teaching moments.
Another good video. I love the peperomias I find them a very forgiving plant. Once you had the soils mixed together it looked like a good trail mix. You can use that expression if you like along with you taco test.
I agree the Elongata is fabulous looking!! I have had horrible luck with my peperomia in the past, in fact killed them all. But that plant makes me want to try again. Great tips, thanks so much.
I nearly screamed when you pulled out the Peperomia Hope. I have that and was looking it up cause I didn’t know what it was. Mine is so full and lush and it’s only one plant. Also, I propagate my snake plants that way as well with excellent success.
Love sharing a love of peperomia! Thanks a bunch for the great tip on the Hope, I got one a month or two ago after hearing you talk about it and I am excited for it to look lush like yours in the future 😊
Thank you so much for this video! I'm still learning about various types of house plants and soils necessary for them. You definitely help people like me understand plants, thank you!
Just got my first ever Peperomia Angulata, and it is tiny in comparison to yours, 😂 what do I do to get it anywhere near the size? What you recommend in regards to light? Thanks
Hi Nick! This was a very beneficial, and fun, video. I'd quit buying peperomias because they never lived for me, but I'm willing to try again thanks to your video. Thank you so much for sharing!
RIP 🪦 to my P. rosso, which I probably killed by a combo of overwatering, repotting, and then underwatering 😂 Also RIP ⚰️ to my Ruby Cascade (overwatered, not enough light in the winter I acquired her) AND the terrarium “might’ve been a caperata” that I lost because I forgot it was behind something else in a 2” pot 🤦🏾♀️ 🤞🏾 I can get my obtusifolia going again, propped and ready to pot up soon. Thanks for the tips! 🤣
I repotted my pepormia obusifolia almost immediately because I hadn't seen this video, and she kind of lingered for a while but she is now growing like a FREAKIN WEED! She popped up like six inches over the past two months and I don't even know how that is possible?! Anyway I thought this plant was kinda ugly at first, but because of how FAST it's growing i'm kind of in love now. I pet her a little every day, and she just keeps growing and growing. The dark green leaves and full succulent leaves have added a lot to my oven adjacent kitchen counter (very indirect light, medium to low). I've just started to propagate the plant because of how fast it's growing, and yet it just keeps giving and giving. I would recommend this plant even to a beginner. It's as forgiving and fast growing as a pothos for me, if not faster!
Hi Nick. I love your videos! So my thumb is somewhere between green and death. But I'm trying. So keep up the absolutely encouraging and informative videos. You make my day!
Oh yes, i've been there - I had (technically still have) three types of pap. obtusifolia, a green one and two different viriaged ones, and they were growing just fine in nursery pots. I decided to move them to pretty clay pots, and they've been losing leaves in quick pace every since. I will now move them back to plastic nursery pots, hopefully there will remain something to save...
Such a helpful video! I love peperomias and ofc make sure I keep them happy and healthy, haha! The peperomia you repotted is a peperomia quadrangularis I think because the stems have like a cuboid (?) shape, it has four sides if you will. I have one of those and I absolutely love it, especially how the foliage feels. :)
Thank you for the taco test!!! You've just saved the lives of many peperomias! 😄I've killed one with overwatering but thanks to your test hopefully I won't anymore 😊
I have a peperomia griseoargentea, I've had it over a year. It was doing very well for a long time, but now it's not. It might be time to replant it, this is a great video! Thank you!
I killed my first peperomia and was devastated because they're such beautiful plants. This time I'm doing a much better job with my caperata. When I first brought it home I did nothing to it but it started wilting. A month later and it got used to my home and has a bunch of new growth. I guess she's just very temperamental ¯\_ (ツ)_/¯
Anyone else have daft dreams ,I drempt last night my monstera albo was rotting and when I checked I’d planted it in mash potatoes so when I watered it all the mash came out the terracotta pores (I don’t recommend mash potting mix ) Before I drempt my poor dogs had spider mites 😂 I remember a lot of my dreams and my hubby never remembers his ,I tell him it’s like free Netflix 😂😂
Thanks to you I've picked up a peperomia addiction! My first houseplants were the variegated obtusifolia and a small angulata/quadrangularis/parallel/puteolata (the nursery didn't know which either) and I am surprised the obtusifolia is still alive because I didn't know not to and not only repotted it within a day to a quite large 5" from 3.5", but sunburned it in my western window sill for a couple of days before I realized my mistake! I wish I had caught this video first. Oops! At least I knew to not get the watermelon as a total beginner.
Great video! I wish I had watched it before I repotted and watered the two I just bought. I think I may have done everything wrong! Fingers crossed and time will tell.
Definitely agree that the mystery pep might be an angulata!! Also RIP to my Rana Verde who didn’t survive her repotting, this video came a day or two too late 😂
Thank you for this awesome video! The pep angulata thing is driving me slightly crazy. I’ve been in the market for a quadrangularis but when I search “Quadrangularis” I get hits for ‘Angulata ‘Funky Frog’ (Quadrangularis)’. The Quadrangularis seems slightly more rounded to me. It also looks very similar to tetragona/puteolata but not as cardboardy/sturdy. Maybe I shouldn’t get so hung up on a name but I do like to know what it is I’m growing. Glad to see you doing well! Thanks again, Nick!
I have killed sooooo many of the caperata varieties of peperomia, (Russo, Napoli nights,) and I have a turboensis that is on life support. I don't know why I can't get the rippled leaf varieties to do well for me. I love them, but they hate me. This video is giving me hope that if I try again, I may be able to keep it alive through a growing season.
I was hoping Nick would speak to repotting his pepperomia hope….or not to. Mine looks similar and I was thinking it needs a repot. I have some very long vines and I may just clip a few sections off to propagate. When would you repot this one? This one is very easy to grow which is probably why mine is doing so well. I love the look of the capperrata but after a nice long life I may have overwatered mine. 😕 the tetrasperma is another nice one that I believe he has but didn’t show. It’s so easy to prop from the method he showed us. Thanks for a great video 💚🪴
Love peps. I have a tip that is more of a warning: be careful when using systemic insecticides on peperomia. I had a thrips situation last year and resorted to systemic granules. It worked like a dream, but many of my plants - but esp my peps - reacted by putting out warped leaves. I think my peperomia were among the most sensitive. The newer leaves are okay now that’s it’s been several months since treatment. Would be interested to hear if others have experienced this.
Oh Nick! - Love to order from Repot-Me …but DO NOT know where to start… What would you say is a good balance of types for most houseplants? Can you do a soil video with Repot-Me
I've got the same Peperomia Angulata that you were repotting - I believe it's common name is 'light green beetle.' Thanks for all the great tips and insight!
This was a great video! Unfortunately, the one tip you missed was pruning. I'm trying to get my obtusifolia bushy! It's little still, but already getting leggy. 💚
I just got a p. Caperata as my first plant a month ago, it was thriving and I followed the instructions from the plant shop on how to care for it (once a week & keep om indirect sunlight) and just now I found out that 70% of the leaves were falling and mushy…. So i think i overwatered it. How would you think I should water it? Now that it’s so droppy im kinda afraid to do the taco test 😅 please advise thank you
I know this is an older video, but I've been propagating a cutting (which i divided into 3 smaller cuttings and a few leaves) of a plant that Google Lens told me was a peperomia but i can't remember which kind. I think it might've started with a "g" but it has solid, dark, rounded leaves and the stems are red. The parent plant was a vine. It most closely resembles the one with the glass lid in this video, but I don't think it's the same. I'm fairly certain it is indeed a peperomia, because I have been able to successfully get several individual leaves to root in addition to all of the actual cuttings. If anyone has any clue what I'm dealing with, I would greatly appreciate it.
Please help mine cappanada have leaves droopy the soil is moist . There is new growth but all leaves are droopy it got worse when I took it outside I thought it might got better thank you I really enjoy your videos
I know you said not to repot , however I just got my watermelon Pepp that doesn’t look like he’s in the proper soil mix ! It’s not chunky at all ! Should I repot 🤔 the leaves on mine are very droopy !
I went away and had my neighbour water my plants. She did great except half the peperomias suffered a bit. I think they’ll bounce back. I love the tougher ones a bit more now.
Now I am not sure if I do have a Peperomia. I got a plant at a great price but it didn't have a tag. I did a search by putting in a description and this came up. Mine looks like one of them but it is very big. So, I don't know. It does wilt when dry, I just don't know.
i picked up a nice pepperomia peacock at a nursery, but had to repot it right away... they put it in a huge nursery pot... i guess so they can charge for an 8" pot... when it was clearly in a 4" pot before... i had to under pot it in a 6inch pot...
How do you know when you're over watering and underwatering I just brought home a pepperomia obtusifolia but it's weird because it's growing those little tails and the leaves are developing holes with dry crust edging
So propagating pepperomias is by leaf and not by vine (if there is a vine)? Also, do you find more success propagating in water or straight into soil? Just trying to avoid rotting.
Thank you for the tips Nick! I over excited once you introduce each, & laugh at the end by saying “I killed mine” for every peps u had on you right hand..🤭 too bad for me…because I broke the 1st tips.
I was so afraid to overwater my string of turtles that I must have gone to the extreme. The taco test was not adequate for these tiny leaves. Anyway, I noticed spider mites yesterday so I sprayed off and treated and then gave it a good drink of filtered water. Today it looks so much better already. The leaves are plump and not flat. Maybe for this plant that is the better way to observe it’s watering needs?
I keep my SoT in a jar and it helps SO much with the question of when to water. The humidity helps it too. When I am trying to decide if it needs water I will see if the leaves are looking a little less fat than usual or check to see if the stems are less stiff
The roots are so shallow. I water my little one twice a week. But not deeply because the pot is too deep for it. I’ve started spraying it with water. Just to penetrate the top layer This seems right for it
I have a few different peperomia and It is my first growing season with most. They had a huge growth spurt at the beginning of the spring ND now in July I've experienced they all spitting most of the new growth off ... I didn't change anything. ..I was about to up pot them but then they all just idk. Is this a "normal" phase or could it be that I didn't up pot fast enough so it killed off the new growth to no fall over .. idk. I know you are the peperomia prince o I was hoping I could get a bit of insight.
Do you have a rana verde? It's the guest time i ever encountered a peperomia over 3 years ago and it's still going and I've propated babies. All my others have gradually died. I think i need to not overwater 😊
Nick I have the peperomia japonica and it’s never happy. I don’t know if under watering it or over but the leaves never keeps it’s plumpness… and I keep it in a shady but light sun situation … what to do ? Not sure if I have messed up the root system maybe
Omg I want the elongata! Anybody where to find one? It appears to be hard to find. Thanks for the tip to leave them in nursery pots for a while, I didn't know about that!
Nick, idk what to do with my Watermelon Pep! It was so full and succulent for the first year I had it and then I accidentally left it in a water tray too long 😳 I repotted and it’s still alive but over the past couple months lost so many leaves and is always droopy. What should I do?
Im killer plants too! hope my peperomia be composed with that tip!😢
😂 Reformer plant killer ,that should be a thing the RPK reunions will be lit with people sharing stories about wen they killed that plant 10 years ago 😅,and Revindicating themself.
Nick, the taco test is one of the best information I have learned from you. Thank you, thank you, thank you. I enjoy you channel tremendously.
The Peperomia Elongata is so stunning. And I'm really impressed - that succulent/cactus soil mix looked like really great quality. Much better than anything I've seen in the shops, haha.
I love Peperomia plants. I purchased a hope earlier this year and it's growing like crazy. Such an adorable plant!
Thank you. I've gotten pretty advanced with a lot of my plant care but this is one that has continually stumped me.
I repotted my peperomia angulata (spreading variety) and it grew so so fast I was amazed. And during winter!
I love, love my Rana Verde! I love how all the little plantlets sprout from the base of the petiole from just dropping a leaf into a jar of water.
Aloha ! From India The most helpful video I have seen , thank you Nick
@NickPileggi A word about petioles and propagation. For P. obtusifolia and P. albovitatta, I carefully cut the base of the leaf to expose the little veins. I found this produces more babies when propagated in water or vermiculite, particularly if the leaves tend to rot easily any other way.
I love your videos Nick! You are a natural in front of the camera and you are honest.
I ALWAYS have to bottom water my pepperomia. I couldn’t understand why I kept murdering them so I started watering from the bottom and I have no issues now.

I just don't see any advantage to potting other than a nursery or orchid type of plastic pot.
For me it is looks. I like decorative pots because I think they look better.
Use suculent soil
I own a bunch of Peperomia, they are my favorite genus and more interesting to me than gangly philodendron.
That said I usually repot them immediately after buying because they are usually planted in peat. If I leave them in their nursery planter they get stem rot pretty quickly. So I would say that whether you should repot them or not after buying depends on the circumstances.
Thant’s very helpful. Thank you.
That was my question exactly.
I feel like sometimes they stay too moist for too long if I leave them in the soil they came in. So reporting seems like the best way to me.

Or they have the nets around the roots. Someone gave me a pink lady and she was struggling with it. I pulled it out and it had a net. Removed the net and she is flourishing. Even giving me flowers.
Do you buy from a specialty store or big box shop? I wonder why they would use peat if it isn’t helpful for the plants
Thank you for this message. I almost lost mine and it makes sense to treat the succulent like ones the same as succulents. Just got a peperomia clusilifolia.
I love peperomias! I have two that are still alive since December. I love your collection - your varieties and video inspire me to get more
Those potting mixes!😍 I wish they were available in my country as they are exactly what I am seeking for epiphytic cactus such as epiphyllums. Another outstanding video, Nick, and I like how you're evolving into a conversational style with occasional teaching moments.
I have lots of Peperomia, but funnily enough, not many from this list. There are soooooo many!
😭 Nicks so cute it's unreal. Literally only got into peperomia because of you sweetie. 🙌
I'd have to agree the peperomia elongata is awesome I literally ordered one id never seen it before! Very excited to get it.
Thank you for showing your Hope!!
Your was the first I’d ever seen and fell in love!!
I found one of my own. She’s doing very well.
I’m happy to hear!!
Love your videos! I am an obsessive plant addict! You feed my addiction!
Thanks for pointing out about the total lack of listed additives in compost. Thought it was just my bad luck 🤣
Thank you so much for this video! I'm still learning about various types of house plants and soils necessary for them. You definitely help people like me understand plants, thank you!

Try a verticilata or a tetragona (aka parallel) . I find them less fussy
You are a Phytocidal ,the plant version of a serial killer 😂 I Goggle it (is a actual thing ,lol).
I love my peperomia hope!!! Thanks for the tips and tricks❤️
Thank you for this valuable and informative video,I recently bought my first peperomia .

your new house/scenario is killing it!!!
I have a peperomia griseoargentea, I've had it over a year. It was doing very well for a long time, but now it's not. It might be time to replant it, this is a great video! Thank you!
I’m new to your channel. Found you by chance & I’m in love!!!
Taco, taco, taco!🌮
Such a great tip, I use this all the time. Love your videos Nick!
Thank you for so much information. It works for beginners and seasoned growers also

Watching this as just got one today. Watching you make up a good blend of potting soil knowing full well I'm just gonna use compost 🤣🤣🤣
Gorgeous plants. I only recently learned of this kind of plant.
Обожаю Ваше видео ,такие красивые растения ,удачи Вам.
You've inspired me to try peperomias again. Thanks for the tips
Love the taco test. Nice to see a plant that needs water.lol . Love your channel, so much fun and excellent info.

Steve’s Leaves carries the rounder leaf variety - that’s where I got mine. The pointy variety has been flooding the mass market!

I enjoy your videos very much! Love the pottery!
the Elongata is so cool!!
Not me re potting my 200 now dead peperomia the next week I brought them home.....
Nick thank you so much now I know where I went horribly wrong...
Oh I like the taco test haha. I'm gonna do this to my 2 pepi. Thank u😊

Thank you for this info! I actually took notes!
I have bought a tiny papero mia caperata like yours, how long should i leave in that pot?
Nice & informative video......thank you!
They are so nice and lovely containers
I know you said not to repot , however I just got my watermelon Pepp that doesn’t look like he’s in the proper soil mix ! It’s not chunky at all ! Should I repot 🤔 the leaves on mine are very droopy !
I have a Happy Bean Plant in my care. How does one care for it?
My pepperonia funky frog .. it is the happiest inside the glass dome :)
U r right the water Mellon peperomia is my favorite
Do you think the taco test would work on a hoya carnosa?
Can I put a peperomia obtusifolia next to a west facing window with a sun blocking privacy film on it?
Did you establish the name for the one you repotted? I didn't see an answer in the comments, fot clarity.
Hi. I just got a plant that says Peperomia Spice is Nice from Proven Winners but this is not on your list!!! 😱 and I need help! 🙏
What should I do?
please make a video on how to water peperomia! Sometimes I run out of water or I lack it!😥
