CCR's lead singer John Fogerty's "Centerfield", one of the most fun sports songs ever written. You've probably heard it, but if haven't, it's a must. The video with all the great ballplayers back to Babe Ruth is legendary.

I suggest if you haven't heard them yet green river and run through the jungle. Two really great songs from CCR. You all stay safe!
Fogerty has said that it is about rising tension within CCR and the imminent departure of his brother Tom from the band. Fogerty stated that the song was written about the fact that they were on the top of the charts and had surpassed all of their wildest expectations of fame and fortune. They were rich and famous, but somehow all of the members of the band at the time were depressed and unhappy; thus the line "Have you ever seen the rain, coming down on a sunny day?" -wikipedia

What's crazy about John Fogerty is that his voice has basically never changed since then. He sang this song at the beginning of quarantine and it was fantastic!
One of my favorite songs of all time. It's just a perfectly crafted song. It hooks you in right away with that guitar riff, then it hits you hard right in the soul when the lyrics start, then it ends without overstaying its welcome. The vibe, the cadence, the timbre of Fogerty's voice, everything about the song is perfect, it's like a masterclass on how to write a hit song.
There are lots of explanations for what John means when he sings about the rain. My favorite is that rain was what GIs called incoming fire in Vietnam.
@@09bluejeans I heard it was Napalm also! Fortunate Son was written about the draft & War in Vietnam. Grew up through all of that Vietnam Crap. My 2 cousins made it back!
John himself said it’s about the band and their impending breakup. Things seemed sunny for the band on the surface as they were topping charts, but behind the scenes things were not good.
The guys in CCR are originally from California. They went through numerous name changes before settling on CCR, named after a town and a beer commercial. Their first song in the top 40s was Brown Eyed Girl, under the name The Golywogs. They never did drugs and they stayed away from the Rock and Roll life style. So much more than I have time to write here. Thanks so much for this reaction! Blessings to you both and your lovely children. Until next time have a great day.
There are so many good CCR songs. You can’t go wrong with any of them. Growing up, I used to select “Long As I Can See The Light” on the jukebox many, many times.
You two are so articulate and insightful for "young people"! It's so enjoyable to watch you experience music that I've heard over the course of my life. Makes me very happy..thanks.
Even though though they sound like they are straight out of Louisiana, they are actually from California. John Fogerty was just always about the swamp vibe. Check their versions of Heard It Through the Grapevine and I Put a Spell on You
@@catofthecastle1681 just like a lot of our folk came, my family came from Oklahoma. My husbands family came to work in the Richmond shipyards. My father in law worked at the shipyard, but later in life was a owner of his plumbing business who would do work for Tom Fogerty

You guys have got me back into CCR. Their greatest hits album, Chronicle,is in my cd player right now. They were my mom's favorite band, and listening to it makes me feel close to her, since she passed away in May. Thank you for the joy that you bring to each and every video.
I know y'all have to be worn out. I'm sure you would rather be resting after the night you've had. To put a video up shows true dedication. Thank you and I hope you have a restful night 💙💙
You guys know groove. Whether blues, hip-hop, psychedelic, soul, rock, punk, metal, r'nb or anywhere in between... a groove is a groove is a groove... I love seeing you grooving. A good song is a good song...
They have a song called Lodi, which is about a singer traveling around and playing in bars, hoping he'll be "discovered". It's a great song, but melancholy in it's tone. Definitely one of their most classic tunes though.
We live near Lodi. It is a quiet town with great wineries. Great restaurants. Relaxed atmosphere. Stuck in Lodi Again is of course a favorite for me because I wouldn’t mind being stuck there for a week.
My favorite CCR song. My second is "Lookin' Out My Back Door", which I hope you will do next. And it's cool that you only did two today. Just do four tomorrow. :) And as for your Southern Rock comment, I would definitely put Lynyrd Skynyrd in that category as well... you have to do "Sweet Home Alabama" at some point!!
Is this my favorite CCR song? Or is it "I Put A Spell On You"? Or is it "Who'll Stop The Rain"? Or is it "I Heard It Through The Grapevine"? Decisions, decisions....
This song is about John, at the height of their success and popularity, seeing that the end of the band was near due to infighting and other band members being jealous of him. “Have you ever seen the rain coming down on sunny days?”
I am in Stillwater. Yes, it has been a rough couple days. Gladyou are safe. Now to bid'ness! This is for Amber; Pink Floyd is a genre to theirselves. There is only two kinds of music : Pink Floyd.....and everything else! Getting back to CCR, have you listened to Bad Moon Rising? By the way, CCR is considered "swamp rock" stay safe! Peace
From El Cerrito, CA, they played Bay Area clubs & bars as 'The Golliwogs' for a while until they landed a record deal, changed their name to CCR, and took off. They've got a great song called "Lodi" about the frustration of playing gig after gig in dives.
Hi guys. CCR started with 3 of the guys meeting in Jr High. They got to be friends and decided to start a band. That was in (I think) 1959. They were a trio and played mostly instrumentals. They also used to be the back up band for John Fogerty's brother Tom who later joined the band. They had a few names and finally ended up with the CCR name in like 67 or 68. You should give Skynyrd's "Gimme three steps" a listen.
Aaahh! Just learned ya'll are fellow Okies! Live in the NW Panhandle of OK. Family not far from ya'll in Davis and Ardmore. Love watching you kiddos :) Good job!
I grew up on the great music of the 60's-70's. CCR has always been one of my favorites. They don't have a bad song! John Fogerty has one of the most unique & recognizable voices around.
Such a beautiful song, and John Fogerty's voice is perfect for it; I've heard other singers cover it, but it's just not the same. If you guys like this one, you really have to listen to "Long As I Can See the Light." It really is my favorite song by CCR; there is so much feeling in that one! My birthday is coming up on November 7th, and it would be an amazing birthday gift if my favorite couple on UA-cam were to react to my favorite song by one of my favorite groups. Either way, glad you guys made it through last night's storm okay; it hit us pretty hard here in Tulsa as well.
I was in a couple of rock bands in the 60s. I played all kinds of music. I’m 73 now and don’t play my guitar much anymore but when I do, I grab my Fender and belt out a CCR tune.
As an antiwar protester in the Viet Nam era, I loved CCR and their antiwar songs. I love your reactions to the music of my youth, we had some of the best artists and music of all time. I lived in Oklahoma for almost seven years and know about all the tornados you get down there. Don't worry about the videos, your family's safety is so much more important! Stay safe!
I actually prefer some of their more unnoticed tunes. Like- Cross-Tie Walker, Effigy, Ramble Tamble, Keep on Chooglin', Bootleg, Feelin' Blue, Wrote a Song for Everyone, I Put a Spell on You, (cover song), Tombstone Shadow, Before you Accuse Me, Sweet Hitchhiker, and the list goes on.
I was excited when I saw this reaction video on your list. "Have You Ever Seen the Rain" has always been my favorite CCR song. The chorus, especially, always gives me chills. Love the channel! And am glad you all are okay after the tornado scare.
You said his voice is down to earth, I feel like the way to describe it is "welcoming ". It brings you in, gives you a hug and makes you feel like that's the spot where you're supposed to be
I've heard this song live twice. Once in early 2000s, and once just pre-pandemic (dude's still got it). I can tell you, when this song comes on, it's almost magical. The crowd sings along and does lighters/phones. Amazing!
Why? They helped define the genre. What, a person can't sing Opera unless they are from x can't sing country unless they are from y, can't sing etc. Where a person lives shouldn't determine what they play. CCR pioneers of southern rock.
@@stanleymyrick4068 I see both sides of this. Another great example of this juxtaposition is The Band, who outside of Levon, were all Canadian, but many still considered their sound to be southern rock. I guess that begs the bigger question, does it all need to be quantified? I just dig good music...
@@stanlanier7640 Southern Rock is a genre. It has a distinct sound. Sorta like Island music, Jamaica music. You know it when you hear it, and you can be in a land locked state and make Island Jamaica music. Southern Rock sounds like CCR, Lynard Skynard, .38 Special, etc. Anyone that disqualifies CCR just because of their location doesn't believe Southern Rock is a genre I guess, and takes it to mean any type of rock in the deep south and deep south only. I guess a heavy metal band that is based out of Alabama is Southern Rock by that definition.
His voice is at its most powerful on “I Put A Spell On You”. Remastered track is best and the guitars are just as gritty. It will be your favorite CCR song, guaranteed !!
I was just out of high school and we'd drive over to the City (San Francisco) and go to to a concert. It was such an amazing time to see Santana, Janis Joplin with Big Brother, and CCR in one night. They were so young, but so were we.
First time I heard this song was with my dad as we were going home and the radio was on and I would hear Have you ever seen rain and I would look at my dad and say yeah but have you ever seen a chocolate cake as it was my birthday that day and I was turning six and mom was baking me one.
Has deeper meaning, indeed. He once said the song was a metaphor of what was going on with the band at the time it was written. They were experiencing phenomenal success, gold records, number one hits, you name it. Yet the band was in total disarray with everyone fighting.
Por qué nuestra música ha sido música... jamás morirá; y ayudado esto por jóvenes como ustedes, que la viven, la analizan y aprecian por lo que vale... simplemente seguirá así VIVA por siempre!
Still love the fact that Status Quo opened that gig. and would have had hundreds of thousands of Americans watching, scratching their heads wondering who the hell this band was :)
"Timbre" is the term you're looking for when you're talking about the quality of his voice. It is the overtones in the voice that give it that rich, echoing sound. He also kicks in some vocal fry for emphasis, and this exaggerates the timbre of his voice. In wide open areas, such as in the prairies of the Midwest, it is not uncommon to see one cloud raining on one spot during an otherwise perfectly sunny day. If the sun is out and you are being rained on the old country expression was "The Devil is beating his wife." I'm not clear about how that expression came about, but that was a real expression. The concept of 'sunny day rain' is a good expression of how life is usually a mix of the good and the bad, even at the best and the worst of times.
John Fogerty(lead of CCR) "centerfield" "the old man down the road" is his solo 80's music. Lived in Missouri for years. Know all about the sirens. Stay together, Stay safe.

John Fogerty's still out there singing and doing shows his voice is fantastic. Love your reactions GOD BLESS EVERYONE🙏🙏🙏😇❤
My favorite band of all time. Creedence!
There are so many good CCR songs. You can’t go wrong with any of them. Growing up, I used to select “Long As I Can See The Light” on the jukebox many, many times.
Oh, I absolutely LOVE "Long As I Can See The Light"!
Long as I can see the light is an absolute masterpiece, incredible singing, songwriting and not to mention saxophone playing by John.
Run through the Jungle is another good song by them that I think you will like.
Yessss, love that song
Our main concern is you and all those beautiful babies stay safe ! We will be there for you when you can ❤
"The Old Man Down The Road" by John Fogarty (solo) is a must-listen, along with the oft-mentioned Centerfield.
Check their versions of Heard It Through the Grapevine and I Put a Spell on You
His dad grew up in the Deep South and passed it on to his kids! A lot of people left the south to find better jobs during the Great Depression.
@@catofthecastle1681 just like a lot of our folk came, my family came from Oklahoma. My husbands family came to work in the Richmond shipyards. My father in law worked at the shipyard, but later in life was a owner of his plumbing business who would do work for Tom Fogerty
Yes! They're from El Cerrito, Ca in the San Francisco Bay area where I'm from. Hometown boys!
Bay Area band. The Lodi they sing about is just a few miles north of us in the Central Valley of CA.
@@samueltabo3390 there are so many great Bay Area bands. A few thrash metal guitarists I went to school with, and they became famous. You have Green Day now
You guys have got me back into CCR.
There's an old saying, "Always leave them wanting more!" :-)
These guys are the best. I have genuine affection for them all
I love you two, you’re the best. You make my days, every day better because of you two 😍
I'm glad you guys are safe. We've actually had several tornadoes in the Doylestown area these past few years. It's very frightening
You guys know groove. Whether blues, hip-hop, psychedelic, soul, rock, punk, metal, r'nb or anywhere in between... a groove is a groove is a groove... I love seeing you grooving. A good song is a good song...
I always love showing my mom yall's reactions to all the classics and she enjoys it too. Keep them coming 👏💯
They have a song called Lodi, which is about a singer traveling around and playing in bars, hoping he'll be "discovered". It's a great song, but melancholy in it's tone. Definitely one of their most classic tunes though.
Stuck in Lodi Again. One of my favorite CCR songs.
Love that song👍
We live near Lodi. It is a quiet town with great wineries. Great restaurants. Relaxed atmosphere. Stuck in Lodi Again is of course a favorite for me because I wouldn’t mind being stuck there for a week.
My favorite CCR song. My second is "Lookin' Out My Back Door", which I hope you will do next. And it's cool that you only did two today. Just do four tomorrow. :) And as for your Southern Rock comment, I would definitely put Lynyrd Skynyrd in that category as well... you have to do "Sweet Home Alabama" at some point!!
mine is It Came Out Of The Sky
I'm 66, been a Fogarty fan since I was 14. I always get chills when I hear CCR.
Is this my favorite CCR song? Or is it "I Put A Spell On You"? Or is it "Who'll Stop The Rain"? Or is it "I Heard It Through The Grapevine"? Decisions, decisions....
"Long as I Can See the Light" is CCR at its best. There is grit and saxaphone for Amber. It is an amazing song to react to.
The very early 70s RIGHT HERE ,,
RELEASED IN 1971 I REALY miss my 70s
Absolutely love that song! My favourite is up round the bend though!
Love that song, but their top song is this one "Have you ever seen the rain"
Great song - they have so many. The best band in the world for several years. John Fogerty is among the most talented musicians ever.
This song is about John, at the height of their success and popularity, seeing that the end of the band was near due to infighting and other band members being jealous of him. “Have you ever seen the rain coming down on sunny days?”
No need for me to add the same comment! Perfectly explained! I learned of this from john fogertys appearance on the howard stern show…
Absolutely!
This was also in a "Rolling Stone " magazine interview.
I love what y’all do but this is a different level!! Yes!
Dude CCR is arguably the best group of all time. Only together about 5 years. Everyone likes atleast 1 ccr song
This is probably one of CCRs best songs that I absolutely love. One of if not my best pick from them. They have so many. It’s hard to choose.
I grew up on the great music of the 60's-70's. CCR has always been one of my favorites. They don't have a bad song! John Fogerty has one of the most unique & recognizable voices around.
I grew up thinking CCR was all Rock and roll was about. Love Traveling Band.
So did i
I was born in 1960, So i can relate
This song was on my mom's tribute video at her funeral... when I hear it I feel like she is reaching out to me...❤
Such a beautiful song, and John Fogerty's voice is perfect for it; I've heard other singers cover it, but it's just not the same.
Great song. Another favorite CCR song of mine is Down on the Corner
Bring a ni kel tap your feet
I was excited when I saw this reaction video on your list. "Have You Ever Seen the Rain" has always been my favorite CCR song. The chorus, especially, always gives me chills. Love the channel! And am glad you all are okay after the tornado scare.
The most beautiful song about depression ever written.
You said his voice is down to earth, I feel like the way to describe it is "welcoming ". It brings you in, gives you a hug and makes you feel like that's the spot where you're supposed to be
I agree with you Amber, if the earth could sing she would sound like Fogarty
I've heard this song live twice. Once in early 2000s, and once just pre-pandemic (dude's still got it). I can tell you, when this song comes on, it's almost magical. The crowd sings along and does lighters/phones. Amazing!
It is so funny to me, being a Georgia boy, through the years hearing this group of Northern California musicians described as playing Southern Rock.
@@stanleymyrick4068 Let's start with the basics. What does the "Southern" mean to you in the term "Southern Rock?"
This is my personal favorite CCR song and possibly my favorite Rock and roll song ever! Just wooow! 🙏
His voice is at its most powerful on “I Put A Spell On You”. Remastered track is best and the guitars are just as gritty. It will be your favorite CCR song, guaranteed !!
Just saw this. It makes me so happy that you like this song and CCR. I’m 62 and have loved CCR all my life. It touches me that you appreciate it.
You've got to hear CCRs" Heard it through the grapevine " the long version. It is so awesome.
They should do both Marvin Gays version and CCR back to back both are amazing
@@special420player Exactly!
Jordan recently mentioned wanting to hear more hit covers... Now that is an amazing cover! ^^^
YES! The long version! 😁Chillin’ 🎸
The short version cuts out so much great music!
Now I never knew gladys knight was the first to do the song but it great cover s well
I was just out of high school and we'd drive over to the City (San Francisco) and go to to a concert. It was such an amazing time to see Santana, Janis Joplin with Big Brother, and CCR in one night. They were so young, but so were we.
It's so sad that these guys, who have known each other since Junior High School, are no longer friends. RIP Tom.
First time I heard this song was with my dad as we were going home and the radio was on and I would hear Have you ever seen rain and I would look at my dad and say yeah but have you ever seen a chocolate cake as it was my birthday that day and I was turning six and mom was baking me one.
Yep, John Fogerty's "Centerfield" is one J should listen to. It's such a great song.
My favorite song of their's is "Up Around The Bend" ...so much energy
Has deeper meaning, indeed. He once said the song was a metaphor of what was going on with the band at the time it was written. They were experiencing phenomenal success, gold records, number one hits, you name it. Yet the band was in total disarray with everyone fighting.
Actually CCR only had one No. 1 hit Bad Moon Rising in the UK. 5 No. 2 singles in the US.
Por qué nuestra música ha sido música... jamás morirá; y ayudado esto por jóvenes como ustedes, que la viven, la analizan y aprecian por lo que vale... simplemente seguirá así VIVA por siempre!
John Fogerty also wrote Rockin' all over the world, a massive hit for Status Quo, who opened Live Aid with it.
Still love the fact that Status Quo opened that gig. and would have had hundreds of thousands of Americans watching, scratching their heads wondering who the hell this band was :)
Just a gifted singer/songwriter.
I'm sure someone has previously mentioned it, but, “Long As I Can See The Light” is a must to include in your CCR experience.
a
"Timbre" is the term you're looking for when you're talking about the quality of his voice.
Try “Travelin’ Band”. It will show you what CCT sounds like when they kick out the jams. It’s a short song, but it packs a punch.
Late ‘60’s, Piedmont Bar, Atlanta. I just love this. Hope it’s still there! Bowling machine, too!
Roy Orbison - Crying (Black & White Night 30).
Soooooooo glad you are safe!
CCR is my fave band, I have ALL their albums. Thank you for sharing💖
John Fogerty(lead of CCR) "centerfield" "the old man down the road" is his solo 80's music.
Lived in Missouri for years. Know all about the sirens. Stay together, Stay safe.
You would love As Long As I Can See The Light!! Lots of that gravelly voice in a soulful song!!
Yes, great song! Also need to do Suzie Q by CCR too! So good with its iconic guitar riff!
Cosmos Factory was my first rock n roll album. CCR takes me back to being a kid, playing with my first record player. Music transcends time, and takes you back to memories you created while listening for the first time.
Love this song - CCR is a must have in anyone's collection - Suzie Q is another great tune that you should react too
One of the great many San Francisco bands of the 60s!
If these guys really like Southern Rock then they really need to check out The Outlaws from the Seventies era. Don't start with Green Grass and High Tides though. I would recommend something like THERE GOES ANOTHER LOVE SONG or the song LOVER BOY. Not the band Lover Boy, but a song by The Outlaws entitled Lover Boy. Or my favorite: STICK AROUND FOR ROCK AND ROLL. Fellow subscribers to this channel that are into Southern Rock, can I get a "Hell Yeah" please?
Stay strong. More important you and those babies will be safe. Always support you!
