I saw John perform at the New Orleans Jazz Festival several years ago. He did many CCR songs & sounded great even in his 70"s. The crowd ranged in ages from college students to folks in there 70's. The energy level was amazing. Folks 50 years apart in age were rocking to his timeless music & distinctive style.

Fogerty also has a good solo career. Check out “That Creedence Song” by John Fogerty. He said it was inspired by a trip to a dinner where he overheard the waitress ask someone at the juke box to “play that Creedence song I like”. She didn’t realize the lead singer was the customer she she waited on.

in 1968 when I was 11 years old, living in the San Francisco Bay Area, it was a fantastic to listen to all these new bands....I mention my age because I used to listen to KFRC in San Francisco, (lived in Oakland), Dr. Don Rose was a very famous radio personality and in those days, they'd give you a clue to call up and win an album, and in the Fall of 1968, the first album I ever won was their first album, Credence Clearwater Revival and it as a BIG deal in those days to win....so awesome to remember that every time I hear a CCR song. Legends for sure.. By the way, for reference, El Cerrito where they are from is just north of Berkeley which is just north of Oakland all across the bay from San Francisco....

If you find a song called "Workin' on a Building" by the Blue Ridge Rangers you will hear John Fogerty singing six part harmony WITH HIMSELF. Blue Ridge Rangers was a solo project John did after the end of Creedence. He played every instrument and sang every part on the record. If you hear him doing all the parts in harmony you may begin to suspect that there was a lot of that going on in the studio during the Creedence years. In other words, when Amber says she loves it when they all come in together, it may have been mostly John making all the noise.

I once heard an edited version of this in the early 70s on a free-form NY station that went on for at least 15 minutes. There are places it can just be looped back onto itself and you can't tell if you do it carefully. When I joined my college radio station I did it myself. The edits weren't quite as smooth, but I got the dj who was on at dinnertime to play it. Nobody even noticed, but that could have been because nobody listened to the station! The thing is, ever since then I've thought the song was too short.

CCR was actually an act of genius. The original foursome were from way down south on the east side of the San Francisco Bay. I don’t know if John Fogerty has ever been to the south at this time in the band history. His decision to give the band that southern, almost swampy, sound certainly paid dividends for the group.

"Creedence! I love Creedence." You are right. There are no bad Creedence songs. Down On The Corner is still my favorite. It came out in 1969 and I went to a Y day camp in the summer of 1970. Unless the weather was bad we would walk the half block to the traffic signal and across the street to Deering Oaks Park for lunch. I don't know who it was, but someone started singing this song as we started walking one day. Everybody started singing along and it became a tradition. We were all happy and never thought about doing any other songs. There are so many Creedence songs left for you to hear. My suggestion for the next one is It Came Out Of The Sky which is the next song after Down On The Corner on the Willy And The Poor Boys album. It is a fun one. Listen to the lyrics.

FYI, on CCR recordings John Fogerty is singing all the vocal parts, the guys were just not good enough for the recordings but they did sing back up at live concerts. A quote from John Fogerty back in 1998 “Everybody says Creedence songs, well Creedence didn’t write those songs, John Fogerty wrote those songs”. He was the leader and manger of CCR, he wrote the songs, played lead guitar, was the lead singer and arranged and produced the songs. He even told the other guys what to play on their instruments. John Fogerty was Creedence!

I was looking back through songs you have reacted to in the past and note that you enjoy groups that have a symphonic metal sound with a strong female lead singer. In particular Evanescence with Amy Lee and Nightwish with Floor Jansen. I'd like to suggest another group that may appeal to you.
