@@CoalCoalJames yes, and somehow I still get lost... Maybe because everything is so similar... so when you don't want to exit the dungeon you find that circular stair to get out, and when you are trying to exit to store the loot and go back to loot more you end up in the boss room...
Todd is the master of being factual but not truthful
*fear the Todd
Oh god yes, I can feel him in me.
Todd sounds like that friend that really wants you to play his favorite game, and he tells alot of exagerated things about the game to get you to play it
And that friend makes millions doing it
Hey thats me 🤣
Used to tell my friends that you could do anything in runescape. “Bro you can do like anything you can do in real life”
Only in this case does he sell the game to you. And then again. And further. And further. Buy Skyrim. Buy again.
I love their games and I know how they work and I am not foolish enough to expect it to be perfect on release. I know the formula. I know how to play these games. How to find and do quests. How to navigate them. How to progress. You have to have a certain competence level at a game to be able to fully enjoy it. Its about everything. If you don't invest in a thing don't expect it to give you what you want. That's life.
Honestly, hearing him saying "random spawn" gave me a warm feeling. Cant say if he is still one of us, but he sure as hell used to be one of us. Exactly the type of jokes that made me unpopular in school LOL
Yup, that was a certified nerd moment and i loved it. It's why i think most people just can't hate Todd like they hate Peter Molyneux. He may make ridiculous claims about his games but he seems like a real nerd and a likable guy. I don't think he's even trying to intentionally con us, just that there's a massive gap between his vision for his games and the actual game development skill and all around dedication at Bethesda. It seems like the general trend in the AAA industry for the last 15 years or so has been to just deliver passable products. It's why so many devs attacked Larian over BG 3. For Bethesda this feels like it's only made worse by the fact that they know their massive modding community will fix the product's issues post release so why bother.
@@xKinjaxAnd to be honest.... I have absolutely described some of my favorite video games to my friends like this. Either in an attempt to get them to play, or to justify why I'm playing some other game instead of playing CoD with them.
Spotted the target audience.
@@xKinjax Honestly it seems to me like his vision for games are just so far outside of what is possible by today's technology that they can never live up to expectations - not even his.
@@xKinjax I mean cant blame Todd i am working at a studio as well and i kind of am excited for our own game as well but know deep down its mid at best. The dude is just overly excited for people to explore and play his game. As a Level designer i love people reacting to the detailing i put in my worlds as well its just what drives you as a dev when people point out the easter eggs and stuff like that. Gives me more motivation as well to push harder. And i think Todd is in the same ship tbh. And i think we can be lucky todd is still around i cant imagine how bethesda would have been if someone else whas at that helm i think we are in the universe with the best version of Todd tbh

That is a long time ago, between that there were F4 and 76 then this....thing.
Nobody could claim those are superior to Skyrim.

"It has 16x the detail" that quote will live forever!
Todd is what happens when you cross Only Fools and Horses with The Big Bang Theory.
The part at the end choked me up. The man just wants to make good games.
I believe he does deep down, but as of the recent decade or two he's seemed to lose that passion he once had.
I believe the Todd of today cares too much about the financial success of the company, whilst paying little but lip service to his once-loyal fans.
That's why the games keep getting more & more streamlined into the more action-adventure theme, whilst forsaking the genuine RPG elements at the roots of Bethesda.
He is after all, the man who started as a secretary for an Indie company (Bethesda) that eventually became a multi-billion dollar franchise which he became the CEO of... and he's been there the whole time.
He's seen Bethesda nearly go broke and shut down, before hitting jackpot. Today Bethesda is worth $3BILLION
0:51 "These NPCs are *not* scripted" - Todd, as a modder, I tell you - they are *LITERALLY* SCRIPTED, in every sense of this word.
But yes, Skyrim quests are actually infinite - radiant quests are generated infinitely.
Too bad they get boring the umpteenth time you get a courier
@@vrygon8893 there's literally nothing that does not become boring if done infinitely
very good point @@dpolanski4143
That comment is obviously wrong but it refers to the oblivion AI. While they were scripted a lot of the interactions were not. There were a lot of random interactions occurring which allowed towns to wipe themselves out. Obviously not a scripted interaction. It's really just about the unintentional nature of some interactions. Btw the more you play one world the more likely that was to happen.
it refers to oblivion where the radiant AI were really given free reign. They decreased the npc scope in skyrim and made them more scripted
That's the thing about Todd, he's so charismatic yet unassuming that people can't help but like and trust him even when bullshits lie after lie to his customers.

To be fair on the 'infinite quests' that's accurate. Doesn't mean they are new or fun, but for example if you keep going to the Thieves Guild you'll always have another quest of items to snag.
Mod communities put more work into these games for free than the actual company.

To be fair the Oblivion NPCs originally were NOT scripted but the devs found that people were killing each other for Skooma and just randomly leaving the cities they were in making the game unplayable.
Hahaha should of made a mod where this was playable
There is still an unfinished quest in the games code where a guy is supposed to deliver bread to Selmo's bakery but if he does so it will kill everyone and crash the game so they "fixed" it by making him never do the delivery.

I think Todd has good intentions. I remember when FO4 was released he was at the PR launch party surrounded by people. None of them knew who he was, it was a Hollywood shindig. The only part he personally touched was the imperial guard questline where, among other things, he made his attempt at a murder mystery where the body was left out in the open with the killers axe still in him with the killers name ON the axe.
It was the equivalent of a 1st level WoW quest.
Todd's main job was to keep everyone else going and steer things in the right direction. And Morrowind traumatized him with how overworked everyone was.
