In 1992 when I was 18 I got to drive a 500 SEL. Pretty sure it was the Euro spec because everything in the car was in German. An elderly woman that my dad did landscaping for had gotten a DUI and lost her license. I drove her to her DUI classes in that car. It was amazing

That old 500 SEL is a US spec car that's been fitted with the facelift W126 seats. The early cars had either striped velour or fluted leather, not the flat panels. The bumpers are Euro spec but the headlights are US. LHD with MPH Speedo confirms it as a US car.
The lower trim looks like either a Lorinser kit or a copy of. Looks like an early '90s restoration (bodged) with all the trim painted body colour and debadged for a smoother look. Probably looked the mutts nuts when it was first done. Old Mercs never die, but some should be put down.
The bumpers and the climate control are definitely EURO NOT USA! All W126 cars in the USA had the horizontal climate buttons (introduced in 1981 for the W126 and for the W123 wagons). No USA delivered W126 had the rotary dials for the climate system. The seats have been replaced since they do not match the velour inserts on the doors.
Nothing Europe on this car 😂. The bumpers are AMG version.

US cars did not have height adjustable headlights. Euro car with updated seats, and Federalized.

The 500SEL looks like it's been abused. I'd be afraid of the white one (sorry, I forgot the model). It just seems like the seller is playing games with you for price. Great video!!

The color on the GLE is called Designo Cardinal Red Metallic
That’s an extremely rare model here in the US, the seats would have been velour originally. The bumpers have the Pre Merger AMG ground effects which are worth a pretty penny! She is rough but boy oh boy she is worth a lot in parts. Bumpers alone are worth $500, AMG ground effects kit is worth $1500-2000. Grey Market 500SEL
Looks like a euro 126 to me. Even here in Australia a 126 with velour trim and the manual climate control had to be imported, here they were from the U.K. for RHD. Cheers Mike!

The sporty lips on the bumpers and the side skirts are aftermarket, the european versions don't have that. It may be an AMG bodykit replica, or something similar. But yes, the shorter bumpers, velour interior and manual AC indicates it's a european spec W126 which was unfortunetly vastly modified.
I love the chrome wheels on the 500. I think they call them hammers.

I've seen way more European W126 Mercedes with cloth upholstery than U.S. versions. I really like those they were from the era when you could argue that Mercedes made the best cars in the world. Times have definitely changed since then and time has also not been kind to that particular example.

I have one but mine is 1988 Euros headlights 4 Recaro seats and frige but the bumpers looks what better than this bout the best option on mine it got hydraulic suspension, which car is the car up or all the way down four times and make it look really nice anyway Mike, you should buy this Benz even l have a name for her jack hammer.
That S500 may be OK - if it starts. The AirMatic will just naturally slowly leak out after a long time with any worn parts.

It has amg bumpers and sideskirts and it should have amg penta wheels and the pullman seats.

That white 500 may just need a battery, and everything will work. The air suspension could have a tiny leak since it has sat there for a long time and not something major.
Did you notice that the right front door on the 81 gray was a different shade of gray. May have been replaced.

the W126 (old S class) looks like a hybrid between a 81 and a 91 I don't thjihnk it had airbags in 81 and it's got US headlights and EURO bumpers

It is a euro spec if you look at where you turn on the headlights theres a adjustment for the euro headlights that it doesnt have, this being euro car its got the higher compression engine its a great parts car swap the motor into a 450 sl

That is an aftermarket aero kit. Euro cars (grey market) had cloth interior. Very nice cloth when they are good. Stay away from that!

That GLE isn’t half the Benz the w220 S is.. Lol I find myself hating so many of these newer Benz and other makes as they are watering down the brand and a disgrace!... the S500 will air up and probably drive across the country!.. LOL
