How A 12 Ton Press Saved My Volvo!

- Lots of Volvo 850 rebuild repairs in this video. My $650 wagon needs a new Volvo 850 upper engine mount replacement, a new Volvo 850 fuel filter replacement, and a new Volvo 850 ABS sensor replacement. We'll address those issues and I'll explain why it took a 12 ton press to do the Volvo engine mount repair. Then my sheepadoodle Lola will join me on an epic voyage as we drive the super cheap wagon outside my neighborhood for the first time!

Fuel filter is in the same spot on all 850s.. directly in front of the passenger rear tire like your wagon.
The connector you need to replace - the same connector is found on all 850s inside the front doors. They have a red lamp that illuminates when the door is open. That lamp uses the same connector and since it’s inside the door, most aren’t rotten like the abs sensor plugs. Cut one off a salvage yard car (or I can drop one in the mail - I have some!) and strip the wires back and crimp them! Solder doesn’t flow well on the wires for the abs sensors as well. Happy to send photos of a similar repair I did on a 97 850R recently if it helps!

Holy cow! As bad as that fuel filter looked on the outside, it was even worse in the inside! OUCH!

FYI the orientation of the top bush should be horizontal to reduce forward/backwards movements of the engine, the way it’s fitted at the moment will cause premature splitting again. 👍🏻
There should be an arrow on the bushing which says TOP.
Actually it should be vertically. To absorb the movement. It’s also worth replacing the mount on the firewall with one from the 99+ V70s. They’re a little tougher.

Makes no sense to me why Volvo axed wagons for the US (and now for Europe too). They were the experts. Safe, sturdy, comfortable, but sport good looking vehicles. What a phenomenal vehicle Mike - nice save. Great vehicle.
The wheels on your wagon were a popular upgrade to put on a early 2000s Taurus. Same bolt pattern and hub size.

Mike, I just got a replacement shifter assembly for my '94 850 Turbo wagon project if you want the little surround you broke in a previous video. Yours for free, I have a lot of other random 850 stuff if you need anything else! Has been fun restoring mine with my wife and watching you restore yours at the same time.

Run some fuel system cleaner through it when you drive down to Randy's , it does wonders for cars that have been sitting for a long time , cleans up all your fuel rails & injectors I've had really good results myself 👍😁🇦🇺

In 1999 I drove from Udine, Italy to Marbella, Spain in one of those, it took 25 hours and a lot of Gas. 2360 km

You should try some impact wrench with stubborn bolts. Bushing replacement is always a press job. Great content, I used to have a '88 760T. What is that clicking sound when you drive it?

Could you give me some ideas on checking out a 1995 Mercedes S320 LWB? She said it needs to be picked up with a trailer and that it has a bad ignition coil. It has 181k miles, and by the pictures, it looks like it is in pretty good shape. She inherited it from her father. I sent her some questions about it, but no response yet.
Oh C'mon Mike, don't be a woosey, take a torch to that fuel filter bolt to break it free. Nothing to worry about. It's only gas.
Sand some them rust spots. And spray some black Rust-Oleum on it

I hate that feeling with old rusty bolts when they are loosening slowly. I don't know if it's coming out or if I'm twisting the bolt to the snap point.

You can by the entire engine mount as a single piece for cheap and avoid the need for the press.
