Why bring up ProJared's controversy when it has nothing to do with this? Jared has never been accused of stealing charity money. You are such a snake, Muta.
It's kinda weird considering when all that stuff with Jared went down Jirard completely threw him under the bus... odd that he should be so quick to have the back of someone who didn't have his.
I noticed this immediately, on twitter there was one guy who was saying "remember projared? you should let the other side say their side before coming to conclusions" except they did let the completionist say their side, it was in the actual video. Turns out the guy was just a hater of this channel and wasn't afraid to state it. so he was biassed. Even projared is a hypocrite. "let both side say their story" except he didn't even watch the accusations side, because he would have seen the completionists side then too. Of all the people you'd think he'd know.
The "we're looking for the right charity" argument looses a lot of weight when the guy is shown listing charities and talking about how much they give them.
That's the misleading part. If they're not acceptable to receive/meet the criteria of your restricted guideline of donation, maybe I dunno... don't mention them?
It's called brand loyalty, mate. It's the same reason Nestle is still successful despite all the shit they pull: Popularity and brand loyalty overrides reasoning.
@robertallen2151 im no Mutahar fan but if youre referring to these videos he’s put out on Jirard, I wouldn’t really call 10 years of charity fraud with $600k raised by the gaming community a “minor event”
Its downright cult like , most of the people who defend jirad are far-leftwing radicals . No matter what proof you show them they will still lie and make excuses . I found out what kind of person jirad was when he supported frosks unhinged rant on g4tv, no normal person can ever support rhetoric like that.
Ill be honest, most of them are on (formerly known as) Twitter and I think its mostly just kneejerk reactions, like usual on Twitter. It makes sense on an emotional level. Many people would have that if a "drama" channel covered their favorite creator or friend who they had no reason to believe was a bad guy, and briefly read over the headlines on the even and it just said stuff like "found documents on the internet about improperly disclosed paper work". Its easy enough to assume that this is some Keemstar guy. Obviously this is not the case, but fake cancellations and outrage are so prominent on the internet its easy to assume as much. Should people check up on this info after, sure. But if its just a tweet I don't really care too much. People making videos though, yeah, do better.
Damn at this point i'm inspired on how much Mutahar does due dilligence i found his channel very recently and every video he makes he's like me ( do full research or don't talk about it half-baked ) < - i miss people like this in my life.
and thats ok, not everyone has the time to look into these things like a full time youtuber and even so they are still allowed to be skeptical and ask questions. whats the alternative? just blind compliance by every single person? wouldnt this whole situation never come up if everyone just takes people at their word that due diligence has been taken?
@@koollio9724a good resolution would be for people to simply keep their mouth shut unless they’ve done at least a morsel of research into the topic they’re going to publicly critique, no?
I went to check on this to be sure. Jirards language actually never changed from BEFORE he found out the money was not going to charity to AFTER he found out. The list of charities he name drops remain the same. His language remains the same, charities WE work with he says before and after. I don't believe Jirard recently found out. I think he's known from day one. If you found out you were sitting on all the money you thought had gone to these charities. Wouldn't you at least adjust your language to say something like "oh sure we work with charities, yup we're always looking for the best charity to donate to in the future!" Ya know, cover your ass because you were SO SHOCKED to find out the money hadnt been donated?
'Lie' is a strong term. Dudes mom died of the disease and made a charity trying to 'cure' it. Having worked in non profits it reeks of good intentioned but naive individual completely ignorant of how difficult these kinds of projects are. If he was doing this maliciously there's a million ways he could have cloaked the spending and simply pocketed the money. The fact there is no evidence he ever did this absolves him of malicious intent if you ask me. You'd have to really hate this guy to make yourself believe it was some kind of ultra long term con. I want a professional investigation done because I have a hunch Jirards family was either misleading him to give themselves a yearly income OR they wanted to have so much money they would have the power to indicate how the money is spent. I'm willing to wait for a professional investigation because although I have immense respect for guys like Mutahar, Coffezilla, Karl etc. People forget their jobs are not to definitively prove guilt or innocence, it is their job to use their platform and passion to point a finger at a house on fire and say, 'ain't it messed up there's smoke coming out of that house and nobodies doing anything about it? Either results wouldn't surprise me in the least and it also wouldn't surprise me if they do find some evidence of criminal negligence or mismanagement on Jirards fault. The real tragedy is the the internet doing what it always does and obsessing over drama instead of helping the victims.
@@josephmatthews7698I mean the evidence is damning, his statements prove him as untruthful, though your conclusions show some light on the situation, all he needs to do is donate the money too though 😕
Muta forgot to mention something important: someone from Open Hand tried to take down Karl's video through a privacy claim but UA-cam rejected it. Another massive red flag.
@@theawesomeali8834 yes, Karl showed the creator studio page with the claim, with the name of Open Hand on his socials. Can't post a link that takes you outside of UA-cam though, else my comment gets instadeleted, but you can easily find it.
It’s sad to see that so many people missed the point. The problem is not that the money is being held, the problem is that jirard isn’t telling everyone that it is. The problem is that jirard is telling people that the money is being donated to these organizations when they are actually just holding the money. The problem is that despite acknowledging that this is a problem, he still held indieland 2023 and told people that they were donating the money to these organizations. It’s also sad that people will immediately disregard anything as drama if it’s between two UA-camrs, and if the UA-camr being called in to question is popular, they immediately assume that it’s just to gain fame.
All true, but it's also a problem that the money left there for a decade will have lost like 1\4 of its value. By doing nothing, they already wasted a part of the donations.
agreed. it's a shame that he had to make another video where 90% of it was just saying his initial point again. i don't understand how, if someone watched the original video, they couldn't understand mutahar's point. i thought it was pretty obvious haha
@@PBMS123 i think they might have meant the economic value of that amount of money. $600,000 10 years ago would have gone a lot farther than it does today. $600,000 USD in 2013 is just shy of $800,000 today with inflation (792,000). So a fair amount of potential value. Obviously all of the money wasn't there at once right from the start in a lump sum, but letting it just sit there isn't doing it a lot of favours in the long run.
It’s weird that they’re saying that they’re still “looking for the right organization,” when their website lists a college as one of the places they donate to. Donate to them! It’s on your website, donate to the people you said you’d donate it to!
Yeah, for me that's the biggest issue with the whole Open Hand thing. They have no problem name-dropping charities each year to raise money, but apparently those charities aren't worthy enough to actually donate to?
Yes I'm sure they know and I'm sure that money is gone too. This just looks like a scam and they hope after getting away with it for all these years that no one would catch on to it. Sad and sickening.
@@Randalor Thats one of the main reasons I dont really believe the whole negligence defence. The site very specifically states where they are donating to, with links to do so. Yet when asked where the money is, they say they are still looking for a charity. Who the fuck is on your website then? Why would you claim to give to charities you haven't in the first place? That's what it really boils down to. That shit is suspicious as fuuuck. Then you add all the stuff with the golf course...
Simply put, you cannot say you have worked with people you haven't worked with. You cannot imply money is being used in a certain way if it is not being used in that certain way. Even if it's by accident, it is fraud. Negligence is not an out.
Exactly, I’m not sure what smooth brain logic people are using to give Jirard a pass in this… but they’re missing the point that even when he knew the money was being held he still marketed it as if it wasn’t. You can’t just say “we’re actively helping all these people” yet, you’re not. The big red flag for me is the fact an ex-dean of an institution wrote a thank you to the charity on behalf of the place after he was fired. That is shady and deceptive no matter how I try to slice it.
>Simply put, you cannot say you have worked with people you haven't worked with. I believe Amber Herd tried to use this with her "well, I PLEDGED to give them the money, so that means I DID give them the money" defense at trial. XD
US Politicians do it all the time. It's called lip service. Keep the masses at bay and do what you want behind the scenes. Saying something isn't illegal (1st amendment to a degree). Holding the money to find an organization to work with, while stupid and unethical, is not illegal. Now saying you still have the money and we end up findng out the account is empty or the money is going into their pockets, now that's a big no no and will destroy that entire family.
A lot of people trying to defend jirard lemme say something that’ll sink in, He had YEARS to donate this money not days, not weeks nor months he had YEARS to figure out who to donate too and yet he still hasn’t…
It’s such BS he didn’t know the money was just sitting there too. He is a director, he is a fiduciary. They need to have board meetings and take meeting notes.
Jirard was panicking in that call, dude was willing to donate more than half a million dollars to whatever org Muta suggested so quickly, which contradicts Jirard’s reasonings for withholding the money in the first place
Also the fact that what he was worried about was "Looking like a scumbag" and "Being perceived as guilty" instead of "For years all of this money that I raised for a cause that is very personal to me because my mother died of dementia was wasted and that makes me upset since it could've helped so many people in that time" All he was worried about was not looking bad... not the fact that all of this money raised out of the goodness of his heart was literally wasted, all of that 'good' work did absolutely nothing but his main concern is not looking like more of a scumbag by immediately donating it... So instead he's just gonna continue sitting on the money so he doesn't look bad, instead of letting it help people :)
@@namegoeshere1 Of course , he does not care about anyone but himself, considering how vehemently he supported frosks rant of g4tv is it really that surprising to learn that he only cares about himself, birds of a flock stick together .
This kinda feels like a, "But he's a good guy" situation. Just because someone is looked on as a good person doesn't mean they can't make up for it when they lie and or screw up.
Some criminals even DEPEND on that defense so that even the most definite proof of wrongdoing is called into question. Abusers in particular WANT the defenders to say “He can’t be the bad guy. He’s been a good guy to us” despite the fact that we have proof of the crime being done. It might even count as a form of emotional manipulation because it depends on defender ignoring logical evidence in favor of positive emotional association to the criminal.
Especially when its this big of a fuck up. Its a fuck up that brings the moral character of the person into question by how low of a thing to do this is. What else is he lying about? Is there actually money there or has it all gone to his family?
what projared did was still gross and idk why people have let him off the hook for using his position of power to sext his fans, especially when the majority of his fanbase were children.
The whole “UA-cam Drama” defense is insane cope mechanism. This IS a case of Fraud even if the money is still in the bank because of what Jirard said they have been doing with it for years. Appreciate you and Karl bringing attention to this.
It may not be for clout. Jirard defended him when he was dealing with all the stuff with his ex-wife and the accusations, so Jared may just be returning the favor.
Wasn’t talking shit for clout. Jared is his personal friend and he went in defense mode by default and probably also had a flashback to when he got cancelled. It was a bad take but I highly doubt it was motivated by clout.
Muta and Karl: *Goes into details, laws, checks government filings AND gets Jirard's side of the story, being completely objective* Twitter "people": "OMG how sad! they just want DRAMA!" I'm happy for the 180o (maybe 150o, or 125o?) ProJared made, his line when he came back, "NOBODY asked how I was when it all happened" still hunts me to this day. It was absolute brutal, weirdly, the reaction now is nothing compared to. So sad his reaction now, I expected more.
It wouldnt be an issue if Jirard said. "Give us your money so we could put it in a box for decades" So saying it is for anything else, is in fact, fraud
It's also fraud prima fascia*, and charities have been shut down for it. *-"on its face" meaning if this happens the court automatically presumes it is fraud unless there is compelling evidence to the contrary.
It's funny how often people will ignore facts when a situation is about someone they like but we're lucky to have people like Muta, Karl and Coffee who are always willing to stick their necks out there to do what's right and hold people accountable.
Given the era we live in the kids that are poorly raised by parents that don't teach important values and lessons, it's not surprising people would defend something without trying to research, because they don't want to be the next kid to say, "say it isn't so." Until Muta or Karl clearly indicate the CAGGTC was part of their research for this specific "investigation" -- I'm struggling to believe they even know it exists. They are so wrong, yet it's seemingly all because - to them - the California Attorney General's Guide to Charities is an unknown, unknown. I don't know if the debacle destroyed his content algorithm-wise or if he just fell off, but it's probably true that statistically, most people watching this aren't gonna have interacted with him since.
And highlights the irony of his statement, Jared's career took a massive hit because of people repeating false allegations without knowing what they were talking about, and then he felt the need to do the same thing.
Considering this organization was supposedly founded "In Memory of" their mother, it's really sad that when on their opening webpage, they couldn't even be bothered to remember whether her name was spelled KARREN, or KAAREN. they literally said "this is who we donated your money to" in videos for YEARS it's too late to say "we wanted to make sure the right person got the money" they've spent it

@@user-yl7kl7sl1g Right now there is no reason to disbelieve that his mom died from what he has said. In fact that story, whether truth or lie, has absolutely no bearing on the issue at hand - is the money that was donated still sitting there? And why has it not been properly donated as was the public expectation throughout all of the fundraising? Sure it is possible that the money has been embezzled and used for personal expenses, but if that is the case then it won't be that hard to bring it to light with a criminal investigation. We live in an era where every dollar you collect and spend can be traced electronically. If they did misappropriate the money for personal use then it will come to light because that shit is going to be hard to hide. You might be able to cover up a bit of fraud, but that much fraud will show with even a cursory audit.
This, it is weird. He said it himself that he doesn't find any that satisfied him to donate to but he keep repeating other Orgs as if he already working with them
Based on the email response, sounds like they did a donation at one point to one of the organizations, years ago, and they’ve used it as an excuse to say “we work with them” - even though no funds from the recent fundraisers were being disbursed. Lying by omission sort of thing
My theory is that he personally (or by the charity, but that should have shown up in the filings) donated something to them. This would allow him to skate by on a technicality "well I donated 25$ way back when my mom got sick" or whatnot. I dearly hope that the issue is simply that the family couldn't agree which charity to donate to, and Jirard just went "welp, I'mma peace out and keep plugging away, you lot decide what to do with it." As time passes without any statements, though, the suspicion starts to grow that maybe someone did embezzle the money. Maybe taking a small amount to start with, to compensate them for the work they did for the charity. Then they used it for a trip, which might even be related - "hey, we're visiting X and checking in on charity Y, that makes it OK to have the charity pay for it right?" Then the brakes come off, the spending snowballs and now they can't pay back what they've taken. Jirard finds out (hopefully after the videos turn up the heat on him to check in on the foundation), but doesn't want to throw a family member under the bus on social media and definitely doesn't want the justice system involved because it might mean jail time and/or the person(s) in question losing their jobs. That's the story that my brain came up with to explain why Jirard hasn't explained it, and has tried to deflect without being directly at fault for the money not being donated to some charity. Now, could he have been embezzling himself? Sure, that's possible, although I think it's unlikely. Had he wanted to grab it, there are ways - make another company/foundation, preferably in another country, donate the money from Open Hand to the second one because "finally we found someone worth working with", have the second company donate the money to Jirard and then either just hang around, doing nothing or shutting it down. TL;DR: I think there's an issue with some of the family blocking donations, perhaps because they do want the money to go to the specific condition that the mother had, or because they've embezzled it. I think Jirard knew or suspected this was the case, but didn't know for sure until a certain point in time (maybe late 2022, maybe just now). I think Jirard doesn't want to make public what happened, either because it looks bad, or because it will have really bad consequences for someone in his family.
He probably saw one of the few people who stood by him getting flamed, got emotional and wrote first thing that came to his mind. It was a bad take, but I doubt it came with any kind of malice, just lack of thought. It's still pretty laughable take regardless
@@nihili4196 Add to that the fact he's gone through those allegations bullshit which is enough to scar a man for life. A bad take indeed but as you said not from any kind of malice but from the still open wound of his trauma

Ikr, unfortunately he did what a lot of people do on twitter: get outraged over a headline but not even bother to do 10 minutes of research into what you’re actually mad about.
"We work with USCF, the Alzheimer's Alliance, the Clan of the Closing Fist... also Jobst & Mutahar, do you know anyone who would be worthy of receiving the money? We don't know anyone who meets our stringent criteria!" THEN WHY USE THE NAMES IN THE FIRST PLACE?!?!?!
This whole situation is so depressing. Jirard was well liked by basically everyone, and for him to be doing charity fraud behind the name of his dead mother. That's just disgusting dude
Regardless of whether the money is gone or not the biggest issue i have is this. Jirard knew last year they werent happy with the charities they had looked at. Then on streams he starts rhyming off these charities to motivate donations knowing full well the money isnt going to them. Thats the part for me that isnt right. You dont get to use those names to get people to donate knowing the money isnt going there. All while saying its going there
This, this, this. So many people didn't pick up on this either. I think Muta tried to underline it better in this video but he didn't really hit the mark very well and should have just directly pointed this out. Also, how can he say or imply that he's any kind of benefactor when he knew at this time that the money hadn't even remotely benefitted any of these organizations he namedropped?
That's literally charity fraud. And even if he wanted to donate to a proper cause, he is now forced by his own statements to donate to the organizations he mentioned if he doesn't want to fall in the definition of charity fraud
I have one question now: do the mentioned organizations have any ground foe legal actions, since they've been mentioned time and time again, but haven't received any money?
@@Retro_Rainer Yea probably. It's likely considered fraud if you think about it; you've been accepting money from people under the guise of fundraising with these organizations that you haven't donated a cent of that fundraised amount to. All those organizations would need to prove in civil court is that people donated under the belief or due to being told that the money donated (or a portion of it) was to go to their organization. The people who donated could also take it to civil court for the same reason and they would probably see more success in doing this than banking on one of these organizations taking them to court. Considering the scale it looks to have gone to you could possibly be looking at a class action lawsuit if donators decide to go through with this course of action as well since many people were affected.
Could be he's scared to come out and say they haven't found anyone and the donations stop. Could be the money's gone and he wants more money. Could be a lot of things. It'll come out eventually what's going on.
Muta’s intentions clearly aren’t to maliciously spite Jirard. It’s an unfortunate situation, but making sure the money gets to the people it’s supposed to get to is the most integral point of the entire thing Hoping everything is resolved because this is upsetting even to watch unfold
Its increasingly upsetting that they arent just doing what needs to be done here. In the meantime the Open Hand Foundation has tried & failed to get Karl Jobst's video taken down.

For reference I've never heard of this "completionist" person. I don't think there is a crime here, the funds are still there and the money spent internally is not even close to embezzlement territory. However, its a huge red flag for future potential criminality. If nobody noticed it for X years then the intention may have been to steal it. That's the problem here though, the money is supposedly still in trust with the organization.
It just show that they don't care about their mother. They probably thought they were entitled to some financial compensation for taking care of their sick parent.😢

He straight up said he doesn’t see it that way on the phone call. Huge bummer. Hopefully the money gets to where it needs to go, but this information combined w Jirard constantly saying money is tight for the Completionist channel does NOT look good

What kind of irks me about this situation is that Mutahar is being perceived by some people as a snitch or a bad guy in this, when this is simply holding people accountable. I don't think The Complesionist is a bad person, but I do think he's not being entirely honest about everything and is trying to play catchup, BADLY at that. Content creators should always be looked at with a grain of salt as we only see them at their best which is purposeful. Like with anything, whether it be this or politicians, you have to look at the grand picture and who is touching this money. It's almost never as black and white as it sounds, so I commend Mutahar for at least bringing light to the situation.
The people who think Muta or Jobst as "snitches" or "bad guys" are dolts. Jobst does investigative journalist style work as a living, no? Muta dabbles with it as he sees fit... I'm not sure how doing your freelance career using your skills is "creating drama" but people will defend the veneer of things they love or try to cover for friends, I suppose. Just assume most people online, especially Twitter are dolts and don't take it seriously and you'll be fine as rain.
People are upset because they're being confronted with uncomfortable truth, and they'd rather be curling up with their controller in the corner. Taking money from people - BEGGING money from people - over the course of 10 years without making sure that money made its way to worthy causes, makes you a bad person. Imagine if his mom was still alive, and what she'd say to him?
@@CubicIronPyrite My mother would be incredibly disappointed in me for it. Couldn't imagine using her name in vein and not doing the right thing. He's got some serious reflection and atonement to do for all of this.
Mutahar and Carl did a good job on this one, but i disagree with the ethical concern being the reason they created a video for it, by the time you post something on your channel and you get money on it you literally did it for content, this problem can be solved discreetly but they chose to blow it out in the open, i am fine with the youtube police that we had but please dont tell us your doing it for another reason and saying its not for content.
A lot of them know the difference but they are dishonest sociopaths and only care about their parasocial relationship with their content creator and not about doing the right thing.
@@goosewithagibus we need a dedicated month or two to challenge people to take as long a break from the internet. Or even a tv show where people try to learn to live without internet.
It genuinely angers me that people don't do any research before talking about a topic. Worse when they accuse *others* of not doing their due diligence or try to besmirch their character. It legit feels like the people going out of their way to get involved to attack you and Karl are reacting purely with their emotions and nothing else. "I like Jirard, they must be awful people" is the beginning and end of it to these people.
I think its people who are invested into something to much to the point where criticism on that thing be it a game/show/person are taken as personnel attacks
Yet another example of a fanbase unwilling to accept that their idol isn't some untainted saint just because they've developed a parasocial relationship with them. Jirard is a normal human capable of doing shady things. He's not special just because you watch all of his videos and "he seems like a good guy."
I strongly suspect that there hasn't been an official statement because Jirard and the Open Hand Foundation are consulting with a lawyer. Which for the record is absolutely the wise thing to do considering the situation. Even so, letting this fester all week has been horrific PR and I say that as a longtime subscriber of Jirard's.
I find it wild that people are mad that this is being looked into, and that a handful of people, including Projared, didn't bother to actually watch the full video where Jirard was reached out to. This is low-key funny.
It tells you a lot about how a majority of people work. Most of them just go with their feelings, if they want to admit or not, and if they're lucky they might come to their senses after some time has passed. Unfortunately, a large part will just stick their heels in the sand, and rationalize their initial decision as they don't want to come across as inconsistent.
The fact that his mom passed away and suffered from dementia and he said they made this charity bc of that and then them not donating any money is beyond disgusting
I don't know... I find the fact of making a charity to something like dementia only because someone close to you suffered from it is kinda scummy to begin with. Like wow way to trying to make this charity about you.

ikr? like they had almost 10 years, do they not have access to the internet? maybe a telephone? Just google some charities, make some phonecalls... What were those 'operational' costs every year used for? I assume it was for the charity employees to do their job is which - figuring out where to put the money that was raised. Otherwise, what do they have employees for? 🤨
APPARENTLY bo money has been spent and is just sitting there according to the filj g reports but the fact its just been stagnant GOR YEARS since donated is a huge red flag
@@traphousegamer1906 According to the filings, but they absolutely could have spent the money and just not listed it on their tax documents. The IRS would have no idea unless they performed an actual audit, which hasn't happened yet.
The story is being stonewalled by mods on Reddit as well, unsure if it’s because someone on those mod teams are personal friends with Jirard, or if it’s just some misplaced loyalty to him by a mod who’s a fan. Either way it’s kinda messed up. /r/games and /r/gaming both
Damn, now I'm kinda curious about what tipped the informant to check the charity. But hey, that's how anonymity works and it's clear here that its needed. Thank you for the great work you two did bringing this to people's attention!
The biggest issue for me isn't the $650k sitting in the bank. The biggest issue is the 10s of thousands that they have spent on "administrative costs" while claiming that 100% of the money raised goes to charity and holding that hostage because they can't find a charity that will guarantee none of that money will go to administrative costs. How much does that money add up to? What percentage of their money is going to "administrative costs"? It looked like at least 10%
@watertrooper yes, I know. Again, the problem is Jirard was claiming both that 100% of donations went to charity (except they weren't because some of the donations went to administrative fees) and blamed the money not being donated yet because they couldn't get a guarantee that 100% would go to research.
That's what irked me the most. Had he not said that, it would've been more ambiguous. But this is damn incriminating. "At this point I want to donate the money to whoever".... Yeah that sounds kinda desperate and damning.
When you get to the part where the foundation's website used a quote from the president of an organization they donated to, who is not the president of the organization and the foundation has never donated to them, youre getting into weird grifter territory. That is what fake universities & MLM scams do on their websites.
Yeah, invoking authoritative sounding names & using charm to get the money in - collect the money, but the people/orgs whose names you've invoked countless times are not worthy of being a recipient of the charity you've set up? That's really messed up and something smells rotten.
@@farialis612 The UCSF namedrop in particular is extremely sus. UCSF had worked with another charity org also named Open Hand (Project Open Hand, look it up, it is entirely different from Open Hand Foundation).
Guys, the Conpletionist is totally innocent here. He has said this money goes towards families affected by dementia. ...and since his mother died of dementia... *taps temple
You're an auditor? Are you a tax auditor? Can i sit by your side and laugh as you eat tadpoles from a caldron? I've always wanted to do that whole Jaba thing.
Like muta said in his early video this could be a case of charity fraud if the balance confirmations and balances have a severe variance. Unfortunately I don't think audits for NGOs are legally forced in the state of California. If they were we probably won't have this situation. We have several standards for NGOs under the FASB relating contributions revenue recognition and the disclosures regarding related party transactions so as an auditor we simply just check for those (depending on the engagement type tbh). If you wanna knock yourself out in the mountains of information, go for it, nothing ventured nothing learned. Another VERY BIG RED FLAG is how indie land served as a SPE for open hand foundation and some expenses of indie land were paid by OHF, rings a very nostalgic bell *ahem* enron. Tax wise when filing with expenses you have to be elaborate on the nature of expense. Governance and ethics wise: the board members are required to question everything based on the stewardship relationship they have with donators. Disclaimer: I am not a CPA, just an auditor by profession.
As a fan of The Completionist and Super Beard Bros., I'm extremely invested and supportive of you and Karl's efforts to bring this information to light. This isn't the same as something like petty drama, this is serious and should be treated that way considering it involves anyone who gave him and that organization their money in good faith and expected it to go to a good cause. As much as I want to, I can't ignore this shocking breach of trust. Even if Jirard makes a statement explaining everything and donates the money, I just can't imagine ever donating to Indieland again.
We can't say for sure of course, but to me all the signs point to not only charity fraud, but also tax fraud. I don't think the money was there. Did Jirard stole it? maybe. But it could be that his family has been dipping into that fund for all these years. To me it just made sense that Jirard would've shown the bank statements during that call to clear everything up, especially since he obviously hadn't talked to any lawyers yet at that point (because a lawyer would tell you to STFU the very first second they hear about the issue)
This situation is exactly how charities get "scammed". A trusted member of the org collects the money, but instead of making the donations, just squirrels it away somewhere (usually only a small amount at a time) and then makes off with the whole stash after a few years. It happens again and again when people don't have a trustworthy accountant or take a look at their charitable organization. So yes, this IS on Jirard for not looking into this sooner or doing anything with it. If I was a company like say.....For lack of a smaller one coming to mind, Razer. I'm prepared to drop 10,000$ and dedicate a portion of all item sales during that stream to his charity. If someone came up to me and said he had been "waiting to find the right charity" while collecting almost a million dollars? I would immediately back out. And the sad part is - I wouldn't be surprised if some potential sponsors did. That to me is the true failure - this lack of oversight is probably costing an otherwise noble endeavor even more resources because they lack the means to steward these donations properly and with correct documentation.
Considering he was a victim of people jumping the gun and believing the worst without the full story, its wild to see Projared jump head first into a controversy without doing the bare minimum research.
I’m almost willing to give Jared the benefit of the doubt. He was stung badly by accusations, internet chatter, etc. So I can see him being down on the whole concept.
To be fair, being a victim himself (and probably also in denial of Jirard's situattion) is probably why he lashed out in the first place. What Jared did was still wrong though.
One could argue Karl only looked into it to start drama but that doesn't exonerate Jirard. I hate how legitimate issues with UA-camrs will get revealed by people obviously looking to start drama and make themselves look better. Like all the performative outrage at EDP.

It's pretty damn telling that most of the detractors can only complain about supposed clout-chasing as opposed to the actual concerns being raised. The way I saw this was as a potential concern being raised by Muta and Karl to someone close that could actually look into it (Jirard). Instead, it was immediately treated as an accusation and all defenses went up For all his complaining about the optics of the situation, Jirard would really have it much easier by just doing the thing he said he was going to do and donate the damn money. It can only get worse from here.
this fucking hurts my heart dude. you can't can't have any positive feelings towards any of these people. I followed him since he only had 232 Subs - I REMEMBER that those old days. I remember donating $100 , my first time ever donating, cause at that time- at least only on Twitch, did he EVER speak about his Mother. he mentioned the last game he'd ever do for the Channel would be Donkey Kong Country 2, because his Mother got him that game when things went from bad to worse. something struck a nerve there. maybe cause he wasn't as open about it as he is these days- he was very closed off from that but to talk about it with us - I felt that pain. and cause Jirard and Greg- HAD Something. I remember "winning" a question by Greg (what was his favorite character) ((Deadpool!)) and getting to sit their for like 20 minutes and chat with them on my headset alongside Twitch Chat. I remember another time where he was talking to us on Twitch while streaming Diddy Kong Racing - where he wanted Help with making the Episode, like having us send funny memes and pictures THAT MADE IT INTO THE EP. I remember getting atleast 1 of them, into that Video. it was just fun beingable to interact and being Responded back to by a UA-camr. sending him stupid items or drawings, just to hope you would feature in one of the Fan Mail Eps. I was like 14 then? im 29 now. idk. ran into him during Pax East 6 years ago - and I was NERVOUS just to say hello. man this just urks me. this is... just disgusting. I was a fan of Jirard. And Greg.
Maybe at that time he was sincere , but the moment I saw him supporting frosks unhinged behavior in g4tv , I knew what kind of person he had become or was already from the start.
I mean.... Greg left under some weird circumstances.... Who can't say he might have known about the donation issues and bolted when he realized what was happening, or even being the whistleblower?
I used to look up to Jirard as he had gotten me back into gaming and gotten me out of a few slumps. Hearing this continue to get worse just saddens me. Im not even upset. Im disappointed in this shady bs
What do you mean "get worse"? As far as I can see, it looks better now? It seems like there are good reasons now to believe that he actually genuinely meant to donate. The restricted vs. unrestricted thing actually means that most problems are now related to the "advertising", while the benevolent intention of the charity as a whole seems a lot more believable now.
You can rest easy on that motivation he gave you. He clearly didn't mean to do something wrong, in my opinion. He got in over his head, let things get away from him, and got called out on it. So long as he ultimately donates it, I don't see that big of an issue.
@@J0n4THANOS That is far from all he does. I'm not even a fan of the dude (he's alright), but running the production he's run, successfully and consistently, for so long requires a tremendous amount of work ethic and motivation.
I discovered many games that I love through his content, so I also feel like an idiot for watching his videos. That's the grossest part about youtube content creators, because they can be Russian roulette like that.
I get what ProJared was trying to do since everyone jumped on him and it turned out he wasn't actually the one in the wrong, but he really shouldn't be sticking his nose into other controversies without getting all the facts. Otherwise he's just doing the same thing people did to him.
Agree completely he should've seen what was going on first but hes also human and was defending his friend which even if we dont like it people will automatically defend there friends
Yeah, I get why he wanted to defend a friend and the knee jerk reaction but oh boy at the bare minimum they should have looked at the evidence cause if (or when) the entire truth comes out then he should (but prob won't) apologize to Mutahar.
To everyone who is running to the Completionist's defense, I only ask you this: If Jirard is not guilty of anything, then why is he acting guilty as shit?! All Mutahar and Karl did is ask him one simple question: "Why didn't your donate the money like you said you did?" What Jirard and the foundation did was _immediately_ start covering their asses in dubious lawyerspeak and Jirard spewing complete and self-contradictory bullshit in that call they had. Then right after this he tried to _fraudulently_ get the videos removed, and when that failed he just completely clammed up. Not a peep from Jirard or his -mafi- organization ever since. No statement, no "hey guys, we are working on a response" or even "Hey we are donating all this money to [charity]", nothing. The question right now is: Did he or did he not know where the money was for a DECDADE? IF he did not, that's gross negligence _at best_ . If he DID know, it's plain fraud. He was constantly soliciting charitable donations using his dead mother's suffering and constantly namedropping organizations he apparently never worked with and _demonstrably_ never gave a single cent to. That's fraud. Even if the money is still there (which is _very_ doubtful at this point) that means the foundation did absolutely *nothing* for ten years. So what did all those tens of thousands of dollars of "administrative costs" go to? Clearly not towards facilitating dementia research, so...what? Mutahar and Karl didn't accuse anyone of anything, they just pointed some very relevant questions, to which we do not have _any_ answers so far. So anyone questioning their motives I suggest to ask Jirard to answer for these before casting the first stone. You know, due diligence n stuff...
And then he tried to put it back on them with that 'what do you want me to do to make this right?' Like bruh, it is not Muta or Karl's job or responsibility to help you fix your shit, and it's flat out slimy and manipulative to even say it.
In summary Lied to viewers Lied to companies and major donators Lied to Muta in the call Lied on the website about working with companies before they even existed Are we seeing a pattern here? I think we are.
What bothers me most is that Jirard used his mother’s name, it’s such a vile thing because although I didn’t donate it makes it much more probable that people will donate money.
Let's take a more measured look at this situation. It's easy to jump to conclusions when someone reacts defensively, but being defensive isn't necessarily a sign of guilt. People can respond in all sorts of ways under pressure, especially when their reputation is at stake. It doesn't automatically mean they're guilty of something. Regarding the lawyerspeak and contradictory statements, it's pretty standard for individuals and organizations to be cautious in their communication when legal matters are involved. It might come off as evasive, but often it's about being careful not to say anything that could be misinterpreted or used against them in a legal context. The silence from Jirard and his organization can be frustrating for those looking for answers, but it's not uncommon for people to withhold comment while they're figuring out the best way to respond. It doesn’t prove anything by itself. The accusations about misusing charitable donations are serious, and if there's truth to them, that's definitely concerning. However, it's important to remember that these are still accusations at this stage. Without concrete evidence, it's unfair to treat them as facts. In terms of administrative costs, it's valid to question where the money has gone, especially if it's a significant amount. Transparency in financial matters is crucial for any organization, particularly a charitable one. While Mutahar and Karl have raised some important questions, it's crucial to approach the situation with a mindset of seeking the truth, rather than jumping to conclusions. It's always better to wait for more information before forming a definitive opinion on the matter.
If the IRS takes notice of this, Jirard is likely finished. I'm willing to bet the Nintendo eshop stuff where he spent like 22K was taken directly from this account. It's just a large enough amount that I doubt he had it lying around anywhere else. Cause he's been aware of it since 2022. The eshop video is from the beginning of 2023. The thought process was likely that Jirard would just top it back up over time & pretend it was never spent. That's still fraud but I can see the 'mean no harm' idea. But I doubt he's topped it back up yet. Basically, they caught him in time. If he didn't record that in his tax filings, that's fraud & he will be charged. An audit looms over him. I don't think you understand how seriously the IRS takes this stuff. It's their job to make sure the government ain't being lied to. And they're often good at it.
And charities funds aren't your personal 0% interest source of funds. And if he did take money from the account, this will completely negate any claims that he was unaware the money was sitting there. If his brother was the charity account manager, what do they talk about over dinner? "Man, I sure miss Mom, dementia is a bad thing, and it would be good if we could do something to prevent it from happening to anyone else, if only we could...say, have you completed all the achievements in Baldur's Gate 3 yet?"
You can always rely on 2 things. 1. When the government owes you money, they don't give a shit. 2. When you owe the government money, the government WILL get their pound of flesh.
Damn theres nothing inherently wrong with wanting to defend close friends when they're accused of something, but jared just blatantly showed he didnt even consider looking at the situation before talking on it. Holy mother of irony, thats a terrible look.
Even more ironic because this is honestly an insult to Jirard's own mother death as he basically claim one of the reason he created this donation is part because of his mother dying of Dementia and the fact this fraud happen it a spit in his mother's own grave.
The call with Jirard was damning. Had that call never happened, Jirard coulda handled this in the back. But he openly admitted everything. The people wanting more info or trying to defend Jirard are baffling. It’s not a “he said/she said” scenario (like ProJared situation), it’s blatantly lying to donors (= charity fraud) and potential embezzlement (without bank statements, receipts and an audit). This isn’t up for debate, it’s cold hard facts.
The ProJared video made me just dislike him. He was in a messy break up that was handled poorly by several parties and only had one true victim, which was Ross O'Donovan because he was cheated on while married. It also made Jared come across as sleazy with his Tumblr postings. But in the end he wasn't a monster, just a guy with a damaged reputation. Jirard's situation is far worse because charity fraud is an actual crime.
You guys did good. Their silence for a week makes me worry there is something worse than sloppy management going on. Even if the lawyers told them to STFU, they can issue a statement saying they know people are worried, and they are working on the situation and apologize for not being able to comment at this time.
Honestly, I'm surprised there isn't a UA-cam channel out there that specifically goes through and looks at every UA-camr charity for stuff like this. It seems like easy tea to spill.

@@Randalor exactly. they knew exactly what they were doing the entire time lmao

I mean technically its not called fraud if its not intentional. That said, negligent misrepresentation is a thing and is still a civil wrong.
He didn't imply. He explicitly said they worked with those organizations.
US Politicians do it all the time. It's called lip service. Keep the masses at bay and do what you want behind the scenes. Saying something isn't illegal (1st amendment to a degree). Holding the money to find an organization to work with, while stupid and unethical, is not illegal. Now saying you still have the money and we end up findng out the account is empty or the money is going into their pockets, now that's a big no no and will destroy that entire family.

he wanted to safe face, the whole time he was concerned about "making a video to make him look like the bad guy"
Seriously. He cared more about his image at that moment than anything else.
Also the fact that what he was worried about was "Looking like a scumbag" and "Being perceived as guilty" instead of "For years all of this money that I raised for a cause that is very personal to me because my mother died of dementia was wasted and that makes me upset since it could've helped so many people in that time"
All he was worried about was not looking bad... not the fact that all of this money raised out of the goodness of his heart was literally wasted, all of that 'good' work did absolutely nothing but his main concern is not looking like more of a scumbag by immediately donating it...

Doesn't necessarily mean they _are_ a good person, either.
Some criminals even DEPEND on that defense so that even the most definite proof of wrongdoing is called into question. Abusers in particular WANT the defenders to say “He can’t be the bad guy. He’s been a good guy to us” despite the fact that we have proof of the crime being done.

Why does he invoke UCSF and other names of organizations if the charity itself has never donated to them? That's one of the weird parts..
@@bregowineThe donation was personal (likely the mom) and done before the foundation as established. Open hand itself has never donated anything.
My theory is that he personally (or by the charity, but that should have shown up in the filings) donated something to them. This would allow him to skate by on a technicality "well I donated 25$ way back when my mom got sick" or whatnot.
I dearly hope that the issue is simply that the family couldn't agree which charity to donate to, and Jirard just went "welp, I'mma peace out and keep plugging away, you lot decide what to do with it."
As time passes without any statements, though, the suspicion starts to grow that maybe someone did embezzle the money.

The worst part to me is, (if there is something legally shady going on here) they're doing this using the name of his dead mother.

In the other video muda goes Over it. Throughout all their years of tax fillings (around 10 years) the administrative costs add up to over 100k.
Yea over 100k and the costs kept changing every year. The filings were vague.
You would be shocked. Some charities you donate to have an administrative fee of over 90%.
@watertrooper yes, I know. Again, the problem is Jirard was claiming both that 100% of donations went to charity (except they weren't because some of the donations went to administrative fees) and blamed the money not being donated yet because they couldn't get a guarantee that 100% would go to research.

I wonder if, behind the scenes, somebody is desperate to find $655,000.
Thats what I'm thinking. Jirard's always branched out into other projects, and I'm afraid thats where he got the funds from
They money is probably gone. They'll keep making up lies unless the police get involved.

@@hibarikyoya854If he was a good friend, he'd hold him responsible for his actions. I would call this on par with defending a fellow cultist.
ProJared was in the wrong, he just wasn't the only one.
To everyone who is running to the Completionist's defense, I only ask you this: If Jirard is not guilty of anything, then why is he acting guilty as shit?!
All Mutahar and Karl did is ask him one simple question: "Why didn't your donate the money like you said you did?"
What Jirard and the foundation did was _immediately_ start covering their asses in dubious lawyerspeak and Jirard spewing complete and self-contradictory bullshit in that call they had.
In summary
Lied to viewers
Lied to companies and major donators
Lied to Muta in the call
Lied on the website about working with companies before they even existed
Are we seeing a pattern here?
I think we are.
What bothers me most is that Jirard used his mother’s name, it’s such a vile thing because although I didn’t donate it makes it much more probable that people will donate money.
@@elif6908 Exactly, that irked me something fierce, using her own dead mother's suffering, that's just low.
"Please enter the real world, please become an adult" Had me in tears 🤣

If you're looking for a counter of how many times Muta said "again" or "and again", I did the counting for you. It's 72. You're welcome.
🎉 thanks
Can you do a count of how many times he pulls the front of his hoodie down? Thanks, you’re doing god’s work

This hurts. Completionist was one of the more wholesome channels on UA-cam left and now THIS happens.
Dont listen to these false allegations. He would never do anything like that.

Yeah, it sucks. But it just goes to show that we can’t really trust anyone online.
Not everyone is in the same country
While it may be this easy in the US it might not be as easy in other countries.
Gotta say tho, big name creators being mad about ppl investigating potential fraud regarding another content creator is a really bad look.
kinda gives off a vibe of them thinking of themselves as untouchable.
Or them not wanting other people to look into them 👀

He (and much more chanels) is monetizing drama. Dementia research is being used as victim for tons of videos talking about how bad the situation is.
I don't say they are wrong by showing us all this info, but at the same time you only can see controversies and drama to get money and views
@@kamilocastillo5816 So by your logic, news reporters don't deserve to be paid for breaking news? While you can argue that yes, they are profiting off of the situation, I think it's a 20 times lesser evil than say, not being transparent about this much charity money.
