Yeah, no kidding. There are way too many discrepancies with their actions and comments to different people that call into question the foundations actual goals and operations.
Like why did Jirard's brother(cousin?) email Karl and say they have been actively looking for charities to donate to. The same message was given by Jirard himself when they got his comment on the situation. Then how come he was on his podcast a few days later proudly name dropping his foundation and all the charities they have actively donated to and partnered with? Like how the fuck does that occur?
Then there's all the questions of the golf tournament charity event and where all that unaccounted money went?

Charity fraud is the act of using deception to obtain money from people who believe they are donating to a charity. If this had never been brought to light through Karl and Muta, I highly doubt anything would have been done.

After indieland started, they seemed to have stopped reporting their golf tournament income, which if we're generous and say from 2018-2023 they'd continue making around 35-40k a year that's 210-250k
This year had an indieland too so that's another 80-100k
Then we're missing money from subs, bits, superchats, raffles, auctions, any donations sent to the charity via patrons of the golf tournament. Again, for at least 6 years (We don't know if the 2014-2018 reports that are the golf tournament include these additional funds or if it's purely just sponsors) which is likely another 100-200k
Which would put the ballpark for missing funds at around 465-500k. Again, just since indieland at least (Though it wouldn't surprise me if they'd been skimming from the golf tournament the first 4 years too. In fact, the success of it probably prompted doing it with indieland)

Just this year on the golf charity website Open Hand says they raised $144K. That is for the golf charity alone. We have the pictures of the sponsorships and the prices they pay. It is fair to say the golf charity makes between $80-100K a year. That money just vanishes from the tax files. So that $600K is most likely half of what should have been donated.

Something tells me the reason the money was donated is cause you were right about the unreported money through the golf tournament and Indie Land. It would make perfect sense knowing the walls are closing in that they'd donate the $600k hoping everyone stops looking in to the unreported money. Considering the timing this really seems like damage control as opposed to actually being charitable. It's an amazing thing that the $600k was donated, that kind of money can go a long way, still it's hard to not think about the missing funds and the 10 years this money should've been being donated and how much research time it lost and the money losing it's value over time with inflation.

Likely as a sort of decoy so when questioned they can be like "Look, the money from our fundraiser is still here! We're not taking any of it!"
While the golf tournament money, the bits/subs, grants from other charities and whatever other sources of revenue they received they took as direct profit. As not a single cent of it appears in their books and the $600,000 donation they just made doesn't include it.

Yet here we are today with one of the original charities fully accepting these funds in the way they were wanting. Why wasn't this done years or even a couple of years ago when he found out about the money if we're to believe that? I'm sure other charities they spoke about would be able to do the exact same as well. Something that took ten years realistically once backlash happened took barely a week to get done. That to me shows or rather leads to the belief they had no desire to give away the money with how simple the process actually was to expedite.

I am really glad the money was donated after all. Not just for the benefit of those who will be helped by the research and caregiver support, but also for the sake of all of those who have made donations (through Indieland, etc). I know most people who donated weren't rich, but they still shared what they could to help others in need. And I'm glad that was not in vain, now.
That being said - I find it incredibly ironic that the organization the OHF ended up donating to was one that they already knew for years (and whose name they actually used to collect donations). Weird how that organization wasn't good enough for almost 10 years, but now suddenly is worthy of their donations 🤔
Anyway, I do hope that the potentially unreported golf cup donations can be traced down as well and that the participants charitable gifts actually land where intendend - in dementia research/support, not in a specific family's pockets.

I donated to charity:water as part of a GametoAid campaign. A year later I got an email with a map link and GPS co-ordinates to the exact water well my money went towards, cost breakdowns and a list of donor amounts totaling the cost. There were pictures of the Kapiko/Mtukula Village and the pump. This is what a charity soliticing puiblic donations should be doing.
If your doing annual fundraising events I would damn well expect 2020s donations to be out the door to projects asap and brought as testimonials to 2021s event to show the good done so far. What I don't expect is for it to sit there depreciating or evaporting to operating costs.

Just a reminder that even if all money has been accounted for and the charity did nothing illegal. Making misrepresentations such as "We don't touch a penny, it all goes to research", or claiming the money was already donated when it wasn't is still 100% charity fraud. The founder of Build The Wall charity was prosecuted for merely taking a salary after he said no one would take salary. That case was political, and it's unlikely Completionist would face prosecution; but technically any AG from a state that had somebody that donated to Open Hand could prosecute him for charity fraud.

It's funny how Jirard said it would be suspicious if he just donated the money right after the interview...and that's exactly what he did. How oddly specific of him to mention...

Them having the 650k in the account all this time isn't as exonerating anymore considering how much they were stealing through the other means (gold tournament, bits and stuff). It seems very possible to have that much money in the account as a nice emergency/retirement fund and only use the unreported money.
Plus they didn't add anything from 2023.

No they donated because they got caught, 600,000 was the lowball number. They threw out 600,000 to an org they've been "wanting to" donate to .... for a decade....
They had full intentions of NOT donating the money.

I've said it a few times but I'll say it again. Greg's legal threat was the warning we all should have taken. He knew Jirard well enough to know that shit would hit the fan eventually.

Well this is a good outcome. Well done to the reporting by Mutahah and Karl for doing what the mainstream Media should be doing and holding public figures accountable. I find it notable that the PR said the money was raised through online charity events, i.e. indiland, and no mention was made of the golf tournament.... Still, at the end of the day, the money is now (finally) going where it should have in the first place
