  • This week I drive the new 2023 Volvo XC60 T6 Recharge with the 'new' long range battery pack. Can I drive electric only all week, or is that just marketing? How efficient is a Plug in Hybrid nowadays? Let's find out!

    I am driving an XC40 plugin since 2,5 years with a theoretical electric range of 45 km. Can charge inexpensive at home. Average gasoline consumption over that perid 3,3 l./100 km. More impressive is a 7 l/100 km at highway drive long distance at average speed 100 km/h. The transition between electric and combustion engine is totally seemless. For commute travel the pure electric mode is totally ok in terms of performance. My wish would have been 75-90 km electric range and faster charging. Lets say 1h between 20-80%.

    I have a XC60 T6 in 18 Months I haved 27,000 Km with an average consumption of 1.9 L per 100km. Which is excellent. I mainly charge at home at about 12c per KwHr. Thats almost 150 MPG UK. 123 MPG US. When I run out of battery, I get about 40 MPG UK which is 7L per 100km

    Ciao Thom, very apprecieted your video, now I'm discovering my XC60 T6 2023 and still about its consumptions. I will make a small trip from Milan to a mountain location 150km away. It will be a special test for Volvo and over all concerning its consumptions (petrol and electric). I'll let you know.

    We have a 2022 XC60 T8 with the smaller battery giving us about 20 miles on a full charge. Over the 11,500 miles of driving since new, we have gotten 51 miles per gallon -- excellent for an SUV of this size (excellent for most any car, in fact). If I have done the conversion correctly, your experience of 4.5 L per 100 Km equals 52.27 mpg, similar what we have seen over two years. And your recommendation is spot-on, if you can charge at home and charge at your destination (or if most of your driving consists of short in-town errands) this is a really excellent car.

    4.5 kilometers per 100 miles converted to US MPG is about 52 .....thats very good for a midsize luxury crossover with a extra battery weight here in the states! Love that interior! One of my favorites ❤ Now.....if they will ever come out with an all electric version....an EX60 maybe, that will be perfect for me 👍🏼

      Here's hoping for a tease of the EX60 when they reveal the EX30

    Thanks for the vid! just ordered one of these that will replace my D4 diesel. My commute to work is 20 km each way so I’m thinking I can do that in pure mode and I can still take long journeys as normal. I couldn’t get it without the sunroof, hope they don’t leak!

    Nice review. I have a 2019 XC60 T5 and really love the car. A hybrid model would be really great! Thanks.

    You'll have to keep some disposable gloves in the boot just like some use when filling up with diesel.

    Thanks. A few comments. The battery is located between the front seats (not “in the back”). A great location since it’s more protected there and does not take space from the trunk. Unfortunately this eats space from the rear middle seat leg room, making it in practice a four seat car.
    The delivery time is still very lomg, checking with Volvo recently, I was told about a year. Which means next year’s model, not knowing what specs or changes it will have.
    Volvo builds the XC60 in three factories, Belgium, USA or China, The dealer could not guarantee which one would deliver to Europe, the one with the first slot ready.
    BTW why so you call your channel from Sweden with Löv? You are based in the Netherlands and the cars are Chinese….. LOL

      Absolutely right on the battery location, guess I confused it with some others…
      As for production factory this differs per market, eg NL only gets Chinese XC60s if they have the B4 engine, all others come from Torslanda. XC60 is not built in Ghent though. Thanks for the comments!

    I signed the contracts for two of them this week, Polestar Engineered editions, one for my brother as well. We are more than curious. The waiting will be long, although delivery will be in December of this year with a bit of luck. The test ride did us decide to go for Volvo, after having been a lifetime BMW owner. Gr. from Belgium, Marc.

    Appreciating your videos here in the states, Tom! This hybrid seems like a great compromise. Does it automatically transition from battery to petrol once battery is depleted? Do you sense a loss of power in petrol mode from the weight of the battery? What is advantage of T8 over T6, more power, or more range? Thanks Tom, keep your videos coming! 🌞✨️

    • @centralfloridadogmom2435
      @centralfloridadogmom2435 Рік тому +1

      Yes on automatically transitioning from battery to petrol (gasoline) when the battery is depleted. It was pretty seamless and I noticed no difference.

    • @thom-lov
      @thom-lov  Рік тому +1

      Thanks Ken! Yes it switches automatically, you barely notice it. You do notice a bit that there is some more weight in the car but overal the petrol engine is always supported a little bit by the battery even when its fully depleted so the difference is very limited. 🙂

    I'm planning to by one but its steel 23 model and I'm afraid of the new model (EX 60) be announced now... do you know if XC 60 will coexist whith EX 60? It will not be good to by a car that will go of line next year...

    I have 38 km to work each way - and yearly driving around 35000 km, i have been looking at the Volvo XC60 T6 recharge, but i have my doubt if it is the right choice for me.. :/ What would you recommend?

    • @thom-lov
      @thom-lov  Рік тому +1

      If you can charge at home and/or work locations than this is surely a great car for it. If you can’t than suggest going for the B5 mild hybrid as otherwise you haul a heavy, empty battery along all the time. Besides that it’s a great distance cruiser so strongly recommend. Take care!
