I like how nearly twenty minutes into being lost in this dark, unending building where weird shit's happening and evidence of the murder of a child is present, this guy still stops and says "Guuuuys! You think this is funny!?" like his friends are gonna pop out of the monster mannequin's asshole and say "Alright, he's not falling for it, let's all go home".
The murder of a child he took part in, given his friends are messed up enough to torture an 11 year old for a laugh, they probably seem like the type to forcefully dump their friend in a strange place as a prank. Obviously that's not what happened but I can't fault the guy for thinking that could be the case
Not only that, but because someone may be able to stay quiet even with jumpscares/etc., the jumpscares themselves are used to give the monster an idea of your location (so it doesn’t stray to far
The game stating it can hear but not see you, Jack complaining he can't see shit, and then saying with his whole chest, "Wtf am I gonna do with a battery? I don't use a light, it will attract him!" as the sound bar peaks red... Just... chef's kiss humor right there.
@@janillejoseph4857 Naw, I never go that far. Having streamed in the past, I can say the ability to absorb information, especially written text, while trying to put on a performance is rather difficult. XD Regardless. it is still hilariously entertaining as a viewer to catch the gaffes. And it makes me feel very big brain, so I appreciate the ego boost his sacrifice gives us, lol.
For me the fact that it is based so closely on the real case (as Sean knows by now but clearly didn't at the time of the recording) is such a saddening low blow. I get it that such stories often draw inspiration from real life stories, but one thing is inspiration, the other is exact retelling. I sincerely hope it was done in order to raise awareness, and not just as an excuse for some cheap scares. Rest in peace, Timmy. You didn't deserve any of this.
Unlike other based on real life games I think this one is pretty well done and respectful because it hammers home how awful it was. It’s only made better by the fact that the ending flips the perspective on its head. It makes the player feel thoroughly disgusted but also received that at least one of the murders went through some form of psychological hell before dying. The same also potentially goes for at least one of the others even if they did not die. After all, someone had to write those messages. Then there is the gut punch provided by the revelation of Timmy’s murder, showing how tragic and cruel his death was. Especially since as horrible as the back rooms version of Timmy is, it is obviously a punishment designed to torment the murderer. The game also draws attention to a particularly horrendous murder, hopefully protecting more children in the process. A very well done game.
I wouldn't really call it exact retelling. The game is clearly exagerated in different aspects. Now whether those exagerations are done tastefully or not i dont really know.
Jack: *Reads a message stating the thing can hear him, but has no eyes.* Also Jack: I can't see anything, and I can't use the flashlight 'cause it'll attract him. Me: *Facepalming*
Jack having to contain his rage to 4 little grey bars was hilarious . I've never heard anyone whisper yell before. But there is simply no other term for the way he spoke that moment when he realised that the microphone monitoring was only just enabled.
I love that Jack 100% missed the tip about the creature being blind (It can hear you, but no eyes) which means that if he was quiet for parts he could just keep sneaking around while its closer, never change Jack, never change =)
46:58 yeah, because it is new. The different rooms change, and they switch them around to make it even more disorienting. When I played, I marked something in a hallway and I found it again 2 more times, each time with the openings around it completely different. You don't just get lost, it MAKES you lost, which made me so so so scared when I played it. Looking back it's a great design mechanic :)
oh I am excited for this! It must be really fun watching after having played it. I can picture a maniacal laugh and hands rubbing together, like oh poor sweet jack, if only you knew.

Three genres! 1. Liminality (no one is there) 2. Terror (someone's actively attacking you) 3. Horror (the slap of Jack's asscheeks keeps alerting the guards)
This is the first game Jack has played in a long time that actually terrified me a bit. The jumpscares were clean, the constant red spikes made me so nervous, and just the idea of the backrooms with a VHS camera sends goosebumps down my spine
Yes that what I was thinking. I've been watching horror let's plays for probably 10 years at this point now that I'm turning 20. I haven't been actually scared for a while but this one is well done
The game was scarier when nothing was happening as when nothing happens but you know it’s there, it just grows too tense and THATS when it gets scary. The jump scares were cheap like Seán said and the red spikes just showed when it was near kindve ruining the illusion. A good example is the 1st Fears to Fathom, the one in the house. There’s nothing happening and that’s a game that actually scared me and I’m not a pwussy when it comes to games. The first backrooms game he played was worse. This one was not it.

That story at the end has me both repulsed and depressed. Coupled with the fact this is based on a true cold case story... it damn near reduced me to tears. I think the fact that we're playing as the murderer makes me even more sick and depressed. [Edit: It still really rubs me the wrong way that this is based on a true story but not in the way one would think... The devs really should've put some disclaimer for this bc it's very tasteless at best and utterly insensitive at worst... I could only imagine what the actual victims of the case would feel...] A small silver lining tho, Jack's reactions throughout was genuinely hilarious as always. That brightens the mood even just a weeee bit. Keep being great my dude.
Imagine you’re wandering along in the Backrooms and hear a roar through the walls. It unnerves you, but following the sound is a heavily-accented voice screaming back. The maze grows silent once again, as though yelled into submission
I say this with 100% conviction: Ain't no monster can perfectly mimic a man from another country so perfectly, so clearly it's a person. And I mean... if the monster can? My ass is still getting eaten, the monster clearly wants to eat if it tried that hard
Something that makes this actually terrifying, is that hell is described as a place where you relive your worst sin over and over. The backrooms, and the idea that the person who killed that kid is the one going through it - could be inspired/based on what hell is supposed to be. Having to find all of the kids' things, likely experiencing the same fear the kid did while being constantly reminded of such a sin - would be an appropriate hell. Not saying of course that this is precisely what it's supposed to be, but it's interesting to imagine.
I like this interpretation. Plus, the very kid this person tortured and killed supposedly becoming the very monster torturing that person is kind of poetic in a messed up way.
I like this idea. I feel really bad for the kid. Kids suffering is one of the worst things. To torture a child makes you a horrible person so I like the idea of their hell being them suffering for their crimes.
@@LarissaDawn Everyone has different understandings and descriptions of hell, I'm only voicing the one that I personally believe to be true. That doesn't mean it's the only description.

So I was in a coma for about a month when I was younger and experienced something very similar to the Backrooms concept, only I was in the hospital, so the idea that it was his purgatory makes it many times more terrifying from my perspective. That actually can and does happen.
Your brain still works in a coma. It like a dream state or it can be nothing at all. Stuff like this doesn’t actually exist. Although I think it’s possible to hallucinate when your dying or more accurately your brain cells are dying.
3:38 the way the backrooms works is pretty much "no-clipping" there isnt a portal, just dumb unluck that gets you lost in the backrooms in certain places. However, the backrooms are more strict with letting people out
One of the scariest parts of this game is that you cant openly joke about it while playing. Whenever I play horror games I absolutely NEED to be loud so I can try to break the atmosphere the game puts me in, but this game forces you to feel it.
Tbh what's the point in playing the game if you're just gonna break the atmosphere to destroy what it's supposed to do to you. If you don't like horror, don't play horror games o-O
@@jos-josradvanji6203 its just something people do as a coping method. like gripping really hard on a rollercoaster. it’s completely normal and a game like this would be like a rollercoaster where you cannot hold on to anything.
@@Ayomiiii I get what you're saying but unlike on a rollercoaster ride this completely ruins it. Gripping onto something doesn't destroy the atmosphere around you. You're still super high in the air, the tension is the exact same and you can't escape. No matter what you do on that rollercoaster ride you are trapped where you are. In the horror game if you remove the whole atmosphere by changing it into something harmless you effectively destroy the thrill+tension and the sense of being trapped. Basically.. it's like ruining your own birthday surprise by having someone tell you beforehand. And I don't quite get why someone would do that.
Its interesting because a lot of people who end up in the backrooms fall, go through a void, and end up in this weird appartment, its perfectly believable to think you were just knocked out and kidnapped until you started seeing the unnatural parts
Where did you get that info? I'm under the impression everyone noclips to level 0 and from there they can randomly noclip to whichever level was the appartments (can't remember which level that is exacty)
@@saerenlawliet2756 I don't know where the "Level 0" idea came from. I always thought of it as a debug/testing area for the universe, where there's just simple textures and unfinished creatures/monsters. Give or take whatever the creators of the universe are testing at the time.
From what it seems like, this game is a case of terminal lucidity where somebody quickly remembers memory's before death. But for Paul case it's shown in horror style as the backrooms and slowly remembering what he did to Timmy and how gruesome it was during his last minutes before dying to injuries.
@@danielt876 Atmosphere exists, theres other ways to create horror than jumpscares. And its an option its not forced. A game dev not making a joke out of a real murder case is also incredibly nice and is, unsurprisingly, done very often. Wasn't the case with this game though
It's a pretty strange mechanic considering that it seems to only effect people making commentary while playing. Idk about you, but I don't think a lot of people talk to themselves while playing games, but I could be mistaken
I love how the mannequins are just so pointlessly anatomically detailed. They made to model clothing, they don't need nipples let alone dimples of venus
Tbf I have seen actual mannequins in clothing stores that had both nipples and dimples of Venus, some of them were modelling lingerie which would make those choices make sense, but some of them were just modelling regular clothes 🤔 I never really thought anything of it until I read this comment 😂
The point of a mannequin is to see how clothing looks on a person. Clothing with more detailed features needs a more detailed model. I fail to see what's so strange about a stand-in body being anatomically correct.
I agree 100%. While there may be some nowadays that have details like that, most of the ones I saw throughout my life, being in countless malls in multiple states and seeing them myself, would not have those details. Clothing is the focus and how it fits the mannequin, not the details of the person wearing them. I disagree with everyone else here. The common known version doesn't have such details. FACT. I.E. The nipples at most wouldn't have a texture for them nor color, it would just be a hint on the mannequin. The dimples would matter for lingerie, which still only apply to certain stores or prices.
If Jack's the one playing this game, the monster should be the one getting jumpscared. Just imagine being lost in this labyrinth and all of a sudden, you hear: *TOP O' DA MORNING TO YA LADDIES!*

@@xxthystx5427 Yep. I think the proper term for the technique is "Handling the suspects passive mood." Which increases the chances of them getting a full admission of guilt and details from the suspect.

My headcanon for the Backrooms is that it's a safe haven or shelter for some event that will cause all realities to collapse. The Backrooms actually doesn't seem to encourage hostile entities, and it has countless areas where hostile entities are calmed or even destroyed. However, they kinda have to be in there if it's gonna save everyone from every reality. It looks so glitchy because it's trying to make it comfortable for everyone in every reality (which causes it to be kinda... weird and uncomfortable), in addition to it still being a work in progress. But you can still get to it by no-clipping, similar to a place in a game that's just a placeholder and you're not actually supposed to go there yet.
guess it would be like a Noah's Ark for entities in all realities. You have all the nice entities but if your tryna make a safe haven for all entities across realities your gonna have to get the dangerous ones as well.
The ending is based on an actual coldcase. His name was Timothy King and he was a victim of the Oakland County Child Killer. When they found his body an autopsy revealed that his last meal had in fact been KFC. As gruesome and exaggerated as this game was, it doesn’t beat the horror of reality.
That is... genuinely upsetting. Horror games that are based on true events are almost always scarier than they would be otherwise.

The murder of a child he took part in, given his friends are messed up enough to torture an 11 year old for a laugh, they probably seem like the type to forcefully dump their friend in a strange place as a prank.
Right? Especially since it is done with the intention to make money and fame from this game. Despicable

I guess the rule of, "not even the protagonist is safe" supercedes the rule of, "the cameraman never dies"
this is why, I am always an actor! We die in fun ways!
In horror films, I've always had one rule: they never come after the camera. And then this one found-film footage movie came out, and now that that style is popular, my rule has been broken many times and I'm not happy
I like this idea I said it was some sort of trial in limbo…. But it being a version of hell makes more sense.

I love how the mannequins are just so pointlessly anatomically detailed. They made to model clothing, they don't need nipples let alone dimples of venus
It's the backrooms, everything is pointlessly detailed I guess lol
Tbf I have seen actual mannequins in clothing stores that had both nipples and dimples of Venus, some of them were modelling lingerie which would make those choices make sense, but some of them were just modelling regular clothes 🤔
I never really thought anything of it until I read this comment 😂
Was it just me or did anyone else see one of the mannequins shadow move behind jack during part of it

@@Eye5x5 wow quirky
The Backrooms remind me a lot of SCP-3008 (the IKEA) there are so many similarities:
• Seemingly endless liminal space.
• Defies the laws of reality.
• Entities that try to kill you roaming the place
• An exit randomly placed somewhere in the establishment.

“I didn’t know it was gonna be one of these games. I didn’t know I’d have to be quiet!”
Literally one of the first things you said upon starting the game: “Oh it picks up my voice so I’m going to need to be quiet”
Here’s the thing, before he “escapes” the hand grabs his face or something. I think it basically broke his neck just as he got out of the back rooms. So everything did happen, just escape ended in his death
Ooh yeah maybe time didn’t actually progress in the real world during his fall

More horror games need this mechanic of detecting your mic.
Imagine dead space
Why? I'm completely silent when I play games, so is everyone else (unless they are an Irish youtuber). If anything it's much better to use motion controls to have your gamepad perfectly still like in Until Dawn.
It already has, alien isolation already did it and the game was released 9 years ago

I don't think any other horror game gave Seán such a genuine look of fear. Maybe because having to be quiet goes against his nature.
Look up Jack's SCP Containment Breach run he was more scared in that
Deffo been a while since he’s been genuinely scared
Well, he's truly terrified when he played Simulacra.
i liked how the killers told the cops they didnt do anything "that bad" to timmy... for sure, kidnapping, putting in liams basement, cutting his arms off, feeding him spicy fried chicken... THEN chopping off his head... definitely a common thing... not bad at all
Isn't it usually a technique that detectives use in Interrogations? Like, downplaying the crime so it's easier to get the suspect to admit to it?
@@xxthystx5427 pffft no idea my guy
@@xxthystx5427 it is . That’s how they got ted bundy and how they trick a lot of pedos
@@xxthystx5427 Yep. I think the proper term for the technique is "Handling the suspects passive mood."
Depending on the suspect and the crime, interrogators can act understanding and "sympathetic" with the suspect to a degree, to give them a false sense of justification and in turn "downplaying the crime". Which increases the chances of them getting a full admission of guilt and details from the suspect.
@@D.Ghostt I knew I had seen it somewhere, thanks for the clarification!
I fully lost it when you started whispering angrily, then started mimicking the baby noises. Love this video
It sounds WAY more real than any other horror game I've played/watched and it gets under my skin. Especially with the subject matter... It's really unnerving.
This is one of the few videos were Jack seems genuinely terrified. You can tell when he isn't that scared when he cracks jokes during the middle of it, but holy this video was a nice change of pace!

This is the first game Jack has ever played that caused me so much stress I actually had to take a break. It took me two days to watch this!

I've never known Jack to be so quiet during a video, and to tell you the truth, it kind of scares me! 😨

Backrooms as whole benevolent entity the whole time would be a big twist on its own cosmic horror. I like this one!
can I ask how and why it has to have dangerous entities?
guess it would be like a Noah's Ark for entities in all realities. You have all the nice entities but if your tryna make a safe haven for all entities across realities your gonna have to get the dangerous ones as well.
@@CodeSaint this is a nice and simple explanation
Also if so there would be even more problems due to you meeting your alternate universe selves
