Yes. It is exactly that. Just standing there for hours. There are actually nights where i go 3+ hours without a single person. Pro tip. If you want people to come in, just start cleaning the floors! They always show up the moment the floor is mopped and clean.

As someone who worked the night shift in a convenience store for 3+ years, I can relate to this on a spiritual level... I swear every customer would coordinate themselves and wait until I had the floor mopped before deciding to show up for something not super essential like cigarettes or lottery tickets 🙃 p.s I would recommend podcasts. They're such a great help when it comes to 9+ hour night shifts 😁
Omg that's so true. Or during the time when you are busy doing something like, cleaning, doing the inventory, replenishing the stocks. That's when they come. 😂😂😂
I work in a convenience store as well, and while ive never done the “overnight” shift, I did the closing shifts, and I can also attest to the fact that it will never get busy until the floor is clean

To answer your question, yes, this is what working the night shift at a convenience store is like, including the constant fear of death.
For me, it mostly consisted of getting paid to listen to podcasts. While occasionally my hands did some work.

Okay as someone who worked at a gas station for 7 years, it really depends on the night. I worked a few overnights where there would be a random party bus or a sports team stopping by for treats and such. And the occasional creepers as well.

Weird question but how did you deal with them? Like was there ever a point where you genuinely felt as if you're life was in danger? And if so what precautionary measures did you take? @@dustydevil6667 well good thing at the company I worked at, it was mandatory to wear a silent alarm just in case. Plus usually they train you on where all the silent alarms are just in case as well.
I never had to deal with buses but I had to deal with a lot of weird creeps. Including people who would do some "funny" ( not haha) things in the bathroom. But I think all of us convenience store workers have some weird bathroom stories, am I right?
@@ladyedraven okay yup, I used to refused doing bathroom trashed after an old employee got stabbed by a needle that was thrown in there. Even had someone throw a lite cigarette in one of the trash cans near the pump, literally caught on fire and had to run out with a fire extinguisher. I have way too many stories over that time.
Sometimes I randomly say out load "lovely day out isn't it?" When I'm walking alone just in case someone IS fallowing and then THEY feel seen.

If anybody out there is asked if you are working alone, YOUR COWORKER IS ON BREAK IN THE BACK, YOU DO NOT WORK ALONE. I’ve been asked this before and the guy walked around a bit before leaving. I had to call my friend to pick me up because I didn’t want to walk home alone. YOU NEVER TELL SOMEONE YOU DONT KNOW YOU ARE ALONE.
So true even when someone like a delivery man or a postman or literally anyone you feel threat towards, asks you if you are home alone you do not tell them that you are alone, there's always someone in the house, maybe they are upstairs or in the back room busy but they are there.
See, now I feel bad. I'm a smallish lady and I'm rarely in a hurry and I remember what it's like to work alone. I just want to be sure I'm not interrupting a smoke break.

IMO, There are just too many of these games and i feel like it encourages lazy 3D modeling, graphics, and textures just for a tiny spook factor. Now dont get me wrong, some games can at least pull it off with the length of the game like this one, but a lot manage to fail too.

The elderly woman did say that the convinience store was her daughter's house. Maybe it was indeed her daughter's house and the scene that you see on the first tape at 14:50 was a part of their old house.
I only just realised that she was probably the mother of the murdered wife which is why she said that.

Having finally escaped convenience store night shifts, I can say this is an accurate experience and some of the reasons I left that job behind. Strangers walking around in slow motion, someone outside talking about the end times or aliens, delivery men showing up in the dead of night, ghosts messing with the door, someone knocked over the bins again, questioning if the product might be human meat...the only thing missing is a drunk from the nearest bar stumbling in and knocking over your displays

I’m not a big fan of this one in particular, the movement speed is just so awful. However, I’m acquainted with their other works, so I know it’s not some sort of money laundering scheme. If this was the only game I knew about from these developers, I would also think they were dragging out time for refunds to expire

My young adult days were spent working overnights at a convenience store. Yes, it's a lot of standing around for hours (mostly cleaning/boxing shelves). Around 5:30/6 in the morning you get all the coffees going for the morning rush. The most activity I had was someone setting our dumpster on fire.

I have a question: I always see videos of Japan where it is so beautiful and lovely, how is the homeless rate there? I live in the US and it's so high here, it's depressing.
@@marshallkili7774 there are homeless people here definitely, but I'd say it's easier to find people that have a home but are in a very critical state of poverty, those are usually the elderly... some of them get abandoned by their families when they get very old and can't take care of themselves alone, since these people only survive on their retirement money they don't have money to invest on a caretaker

Translations: to the left of the counter when you're standing behind it is (おでん= Oden) which is a seasonal Japanese soup that is sold in the winter/ cold weather season. It has daikon, this flour/ pasta based noodle thing, wieners, eggs, and fish based items in it. It sounds weird but it's actually really good. It's often sold in convenience stores and is really popular
In the front of the counter where you can see these weird white bread looking buns it says (肉まん= nikuman and ピザまん= pizzaman) which are steamed buns filled with minced pork and onion (nikuman) or pizza sauce, cheese, and sausage (pizzaman).

having worked at a convenience store for over a year, I can confirm that the 3rd shift is exactly like this. the lethargy, the isolation, the boredom, the extremely inconvenient timing of customers. forgetting what customers just purchased... all of it. I also worked both of the other shifts at some point or another in that time, and they are... horrendously busy at the least convenient times possible. odd, considering that you work at a convenience store. also, 3rd shift ALWAYS has the door ghost if you have an automatic door.
I used to work 3rd shift at a gas station as a second job. I can concur with this 100% the crime rate went so high up in that city tho that the state stopped allowing 24 hour gas stations. Thank fuck too cuz I didn't have the courage to quit 😂

Although the ‘lore dump’ was a bit meh at the end, it does explain the old woman’s’ appearance to the store! She said it was her daughters place and then shouted “what did you do”, but didn’t actually go after MC so it was almost as if she was speaking to an emptiness

From my experience, working a night shift at a convenience store depends on the city/town you're in. The store I worked at averaged about 20 consumers each night. Also, no one is ever left alone, there should be at least 2 people on shift.
The scary part is , no matter how jack makes jokes the entire time , this game still sends chills on my spine.

For people wondering what the "4" on the TV was about:
In Japan, the number 4 is traditionally pronounced as "shi", which is also the word for Death, and is therefore considered an omen of bad luck. Because of this, the same way hotels in North America usually try to avoid having a 13th floor due to its connotations of bad luck, many hotels or hospitals in Japan will refrain from having a 4th floor, or rooms numbered with 4 due to the implications.
EDIT: Forgot to add; this became such an issue, that now most people don't even say Shi for 4. They say Yon instead. Likewise, 14 was previously jushi, and is now juyon, etc.
So does yon mean the exact same thing as shi, or is it like a “close enough” kinda thing?
That explains my confusion when i was taught to say "shi" in karate but then learned "yon" from duolingo

You definitely get the feeling that the "bad" ending is the real one, and the "good" ending is just there to give completionists context, a "look behind the curtain" to show how the haunting worked.

as someone who works at the front end of a convenience store/pharmacy as a cashier, yes. if you work night shift you can and will be standing around for hours with no customers coming in. My store is only open from 9am-9pm and night shift tends to be from 1:15pm-9:15pm. you stop seeing people pretty much after 6pm.
u could be standing still for an hour but the second u decide to rest an "npc" immediately get spawned 💀

I love the Japanese atmosphere, that one will stay with you for a while. It's based on the 4 Chan lore of Kisaragi Station.

I worked overnights at a convenience store, and it was honestly so busy. We had to deal with bar rushes, and morning rushes, because our store also made food 24/7. You get some real creepy people on overnights sometimes, really gets the heart pumping
