** Sold June 2016 ** Currently for sale is my 1965 Dodge D100 Utiline.
Here is my 1965 Dodge, D100, Utiline. She's a half-ton model with a 225, Slant 6, four speed manual transmission with underdrive.
I've owned this truck from about a year now and she has served me well with the many trips to the dump and recycling center since my wife and I purchased our house last year. This Dodge has been the most consistent and reliable old vehicle I've owned. The Slant 6 starts easily every time and always runs smooth. The transmission is tight and accurate with hardly any play or slop in the movement. The clutch operates confidently and begins at the top of the pedal travel. The brakes are strong and positive and inspire confidence, and the truck drives and tracks straight.
Since purchasing this truck, my goal was to create a strong and reliable work truck that was still clean enough for my wife to get in with me. In the time that I've owned her I completed the following:
    Replaced the rear axle seals,
Cut off and welded new rear spring perches,
Completed the rear axle flip lowering the rear about 6 inches,
    Removed two front axle springs,
Recovered and double stuffed the seat,
Installed new air shocks in the rear, with 90 lbs. of air providing a level ride height,
New master cylinder and adjusted the brake pedal push rod,
New wheel cylinders, brake shoes and hardware on all four wheels,
New brake hoses in the front and rear,
Installed wood decking in the bed,
Discarded the host of aftermarket gauges and purchased and installed correct and functioning factory gauges,
Installed external voltage reducer for the 5 volts needed for the factory gauges,
Stripped the factory steel wheels, repainted in Navaho White and installed nearly new bias-ply wide white walls,
Stripped the grill, front bumper, door panels, dash gauge panel and other interior parts Navaho White,
Stripped and cleaned the floor, applied bed liner then repainted in Colonial Red
Since completed the truck I've enjoyed her, trouble-free. She has been dependable, reliable and consistent every time.

Sweet looking Dodge truck. I like patina, as long as it doesn't penetrate into the rest of the vehicle. I like that the engine hasn't been upgraded from carburettor to fuel injection. Fuel injection is fine for diesel engine, but not for an original gas engine. I hope it goes to a good owner. :)

Hey, thanks for checking out my truck. It's been a while since we last talked and so I hope things are going well for you. As for the truck, she's been a lot of fun. I've tried to track down the history of her and just haven't had any luck. She must have been out west though for most of her life though. Anyway, thanks again and catch ya later.

I've been busy with work and life. I've been well, though. What I've always liked about trucks like this is that you can drive it and use it every day, you don't have to "baby" it, or keep it covered in a plastic bubble.

    Hi.
I don’t suppose you have any pictures or videos of how you lowered her a little bit do you?
I’m looking to lower mine and I’ve listened to your video a bunch of times and can’t understand what you did exactly.
    Looked stunning.

Hey man, thanks for checking out my Dodge truck video. Sorry, no photos of what I did with the suspension. I'll tell you that I took the two smallest springs out of the rear spring pack. I then had the spring perches on the rear axle cut off and moved to the top of the axle. That's what got the rear so low. Up front I removed three of the front springs and added the shortest spring that came off of the rear. That got the truck about as low as possible and still not bottom out, too much at least. Air springs in the rear also helped me to adjust the rear ride height some. I also had to shorten the drive shaft about one inch too. If you're wanting to do the same thing with your truck, then also look under the bed directly above the drive shaft. On my truck there was an attaching bolt and mount for (I think) the parking brake. That bolt would scrap the driveshaft whenever the truck would bottom out. Be sure to trim, cut or relocate that thing to keep the drive shaft safe. -Chris

Interestingly, I have a buddy with a '55 Mercury that's yellow and white with a continental kit and he recently put it up for sale. Anyway's thanks for checking out my video and your time for sending a comment. I listed the truck on Craigslist and on Facebook along with a price of $6K. I felt I priced it an bit on the low side so that it would sell quickly. After a few days and a few guys interested the truck sold to a nice gentleman in Elkton, MD.

That would be an "early" 65.

    Isn't that a slant six?

    • @hullinger
      @hullinger  7 років тому +1

Thanks for checking out my video. Yea, that engine is a Slant 6. Mopar made two versions of this engine, one in a 170 cubic inch size while the other is the typically know size of 225. These engines are surprisingly robust, durable and easily hopped up with the typical addon's, like exhaust and intake. They are also very easy to work on as nearly every key part of the engine is in full view, including each spark plug, starter motor, oil filter and so on.

Just an FYI in North America there were 3 Slant 6 sizes available over the years 170cid(not available in the truck line) 198cid available in cars and the D100 only and the 225cid which came in everything including trucks up to W300 and D500 trucks.
      Cheers

Thanks for checking out my video. Yea, I think you're right there in the $6K - $8K range. I sold the truck for $6K feeling at that price it would sell quickly, and it did. I think I could have gotten a bit more if I wanted to market and advertise it more. Instead she moved to her new owner and I got to move on to the next project, which was a '73 Imperial.
