Totally would do the same! Fill more than 1 square to see more of my design! Thanks for all the info! I feel a little more prepared to order when the time comes!

Yes! I love having the larger sized swatches. You’ve got this! 💪🏼

So cool ! I can’t believe how many patterns you have already made in no time flat ! Seriously ! You make it look so easy ! I haven’t managed to get one done yet😢 haven’t found what I like to draw or paint …but I’m new with illustrator and I don’t know photoshop either … great video and I love all your patterns !!!

🥰 thank you for your kind words! Don't worry about how long it's taking -- you'll find something you love soon, I'm sure! I'd recommend trying something really easy like polka dots or something just to get a feel for how the pattern process works, and you can get more complex from there. You've got this!!

One tip I found out the hard way: serge your fabric edges or cut them with pinking shears before washing. That fabric unravels SO BADLY at the edges.

Ugh I totally need to do this!! I’ll need to get myself a pair of pinking shears soon 🤔

Couldnt afford Immersion this year. Ordered the sample kit and need to start figuring out the processes and really wanted to hear experiences. Very happy to see this share. I hope you’ll keep sharing your exciting growth process . Good luck, girl! looking good and I especially love your citrus design. It’s making me want to go get some orange to munch!

One of these days, I'm going to film an Immersion reflections video! I also have some process videos in the works because I definitely want to share more behind-the-scenes stuff, so keep an eye out for that. Thank you for your kind words!

I LOVE the idea of doing 2 different sizes for each pattern! I’m totally going to do that next time I order a fill-a-yard. I’ve only done 1 so far, and all the motifs were SO much bigger than I’d anticipated, so I definitely wish I’d thought of doing 2 different sizes like this. Oh well, ya live and ya learn. 😂

Relatable 😅😅 everything looks so reasonably sized on my computer screen, so there were definitely some surprises when I saw the fabric hahah. I learned to check the mock-ups made by Spoonflower to get a better sense of how big things are going to be! I feel like the tablecloth gives me the best sense of size.

Hi. About the detailes lost in the smallest patterns, I was wondering: did you resize the original patterns in Photoshop before uploading them to the site or the Spoonflower upload software gives you the possibiity to change the pattern size when you order the printed fabric? The reason I'm asking is because I'm a photographer and in the past I had a similar problem of definition when I was printing my photos in a smaller size than the original. The problem can be solved in two different ways: if it is the Spoonflower software to resize your original pattern, try to manually reduce it in Photoshop testing the different options in the image size menu (never shrink the pattern draging it on the document window because you'll looses pixels: always use the image size menu, it has dedicated options, much more precise) and then upload it to the site as a new pattern.
If the problem is Photoshop (it's actually not the best program to resize raster pictures, even if nowday is much better than ten years ago) you should try some indipendent software that uses the new impressive A.I pixel recostruction to enlarge or shrink pictures without any loss of details. I'm not going to say brands here but if you read some photography or graphics forums, you'll see that a couple of software names are very much praised by artists. Personally, one of this program totally changed my workflow and the resoults are stunning.

Hi! Thanks for taking the time to leave a thoughtful comment!!
I resize my patterns in Photoshop before uploading them to Spoonflower. I think that part of the issue is that Spoonflower prints at 150 dpi, so regardless of the software you use, I feel like you’ll definitely lose some definition because of that. But that being said, I’ll take a look at some of the other tools you mentioned!

I love this video! I am going to order my first fill-a-yard soon and I've been wondering what it would look like. I am impressed with the beautiful colors of your swatches. Would be very interested to know: did you convert the colors to CMYK before uploading your designs to Spoonflower? When I convert my designs to CMYK the pinks, purples and blues do not look great...

Thanks so much!! I was so happy with how the colors turned out. Nope, I did not! Spoonflower requires RGB uploads 👍🏼

Thank you for this video! I'm a watercolor artist and have been considering putting my pattern designs on Spoonflower. Can I ask if you think selling on that platform has been worth it for you?

Of course, happy to answer any questions! So, I haven’t put hardly any effort into my Spoonflower shop, so it definitely hasn’t made me a ton of money. Probably around $30-40 so far in commissions. If I added more patterns/participated in more challenges/promoted the shop more, I’m sure it would have the potential to grow more! I think it’s definitely worth it as a way to get your work out there, but it definitely requires hard work if you want it to grow. Maybe I’ll put more effort into it one of these days!
