Thank you for these valuable tips. I am looking into getting into Spoonflower and have zero experience. Your video gave me details I didn’t even consider. Thank you!
I love the tip about entering Spoonflower contests! I never win the contests, but I make almost all of my sales from designs that I've entered into contests. So, now I try to enter every single one.
I'm just starting as a designer, and I look forward to implementing these tips! Does spoonflower give protection for your designs (copyright) when you start selling, or does that have to be done privately?
Thanks for this video. I am going to use almost all the tips haha. I have just learnt how to make seamless patterns, and they are so fun. It is going to take time to get to 42 and be able to sell (after buying swatches) though. But it is on my to-do list. I also love your work.
At Spoonflower, they have a video showing how to create the quilt, and you don’t have to have 42. You can stretch one fabric over four of the units, for instance.
Great question! I will add this to my list of video ideas. I usually upload one larger size of patterns and only upload different sizes or color versions to my most popular pattern designs. Hope this helps.
Yes, this is done to make sure that the fabric is as you intended for colors and all the lines print well. Please make the swatch cost much less by using fill-a-project method I share in this video. Good luck!
To be able to sell an item on Spoonflower, they require you to buy a test swatch. This is $5/swatch. However, if you upload 42 designs and group them in a collection, and then go to sell, you have the option of doing a "cheater quilt" as your test swatch. So instead of paying $5 x 42 ($210) for 42 individual swatches, you end up paying about $19 for the whole cheater quilt, which includes the 42 designs.
On Spoonflower you can order single proof as a swatch or a collection of 42 or 48 swatches on 2 yards of fabric to proof a lot of the designs at once which is much cheaper.
Spoonflower does not sell clothes, they sell fabric, wallpaper, and home decor goods. You need to pay every time you upload a new design and want to post it for sale to order a test swatch, but please watch this video again to see my tip on how to make it much cheaper for you. Good luck!

How about different sizes of patterns. Like a small, medium or large scale? Do you upload different scales as well?
Great question! I will add this to my list of video ideas. I usually upload one larger size of patterns and only upload different sizes or color versions to my most popular pattern designs. Hope this helps.
@@oksanciaDoes each color version require a separate swatch purchase?
So you have to order a swatch of your pattern after uploading in order to sell it on Spoonflower?? I didn't realize ordering a swatch was required.

I did not understand tip no. 5. I need to buy 42 swatches or more first before I start selling on spoonflower?

@Lauren Ruiz thanks for the clarification 💖💖
@LaurenInesRuiz thank you for the explanation.
So how do we proof our designs?
On Spoonflower you can order single proof as a swatch or a collection of 42 or 48 swatches on 2 yards of fabric to proof a lot of the designs at once which is much cheaper.

Many thanks for your support
Do you hand draw and paint designs or are they computer generated from somewhere?
Great question! I draw my designs in Adobe Illustrator by hand.
hey dear!
If I don't want to buy clothes from Spoon Flower and just want to upload designs, will my designs sell? Do I have to pay for it?
Spoonflower does not sell clothes, they sell fabric, wallpaper, and home decor goods. You need to pay every time you upload a new design and want to post it for sale to order a test swatch, but please watch this video again to see my tip on how to make it much cheaper for you. Good luck!
Thank you for your tips.
Ho do you price your fabric?? How much does this or that cost?
It really depends on each case and what license then end customer is getting as well as how detailed the designs are for each license.
