This is one of my favourite songs. I lived a crazy life at one time and this song really spoke to me. I’m much more grounded now, but, this song brings back good memories from a time when I was getting away with it all messed up. Money, women, booze .... all before the crash. I survived it and gained tremendous wisdom. What I thought mattered during this time I now know does not. I’m not necessarily against it but I lost all grip on moderation and priority. I was chasing things that offered no long term fulfillment. It was about fleeting instant gratifications. So, if you wish to maintain or regain that good feeling you have to keep the lifestyle going - then you’re stuck in a cycle. Because nothing in my life provided fulfillment, It was merely beads of pleasure with strings of emptiness in between. Even how I made money didn’t feel like I was contributing to society. Everything was so shallow. I wasn't without my positives. I made sure my ex, my child, and her child from before we met, were well taken care of and went to private schools - even after we broke up. But my own life was a mess. Long term fulfillment seems to involve two things: progressing in skill as a function of doing something you like and being in service to others. What I think matters: you like what you do, you are getting better at it, it helps yourself to progress to something better, and it, or some of the proceeds, help others. Being part of a community is big especially if your job isn't that fulfilling. That way, you can mentally recalibrate your perspective of your work so as a necessary means to reach positive outcomes; your family & community work. Hopefully, someone reads this and learn what learned the hard way.
Awh man im literally at that point right now, ive gotten away with it til now and I've nothing to show for it but a life of self sabotage, again from instant gratification. Your words are quite poingniant, i wish i read them 10 years ago. Hope you're doin what ye love

the reason they weren't because they weren't just rock and roll enough. The songs are brilliant but in the 90's you had to get yourself on the front pages. They I'm assuming just weren't bothered.
First listened to James at 1997..cant spend a day without their songs, all briliant...yeah soo underrated or better lets say they are soo special and not for everyone
Why do I love the bass so much? Listened to and loved music all of my 63 years, discovered (or at least finally recognized) the beauty of the bass guitar after watching the talk talk live at Montreaux DVD (Paul Webb) then rediscovered the genius of Geddy Lee……….it’s such a haunting part of all music….
I play a 4 string bass for my own pleasure and relaxation; normally just through headphones to be kind to my neighbours. I have to congratulate the bass player on this set as he does a fantastic job and what he did was not as easy as it looks or sounds.
I only discovered this song last week at a James tribute night. They played this last, it was super emotional linking arms with my brothers all singing along. I love the way songs can suddenly mean so much to me out of nowhere and this has become one of them. Amazing song 🎼💜🙌🏽
19 years of growing up with this around me, when your family actually pass away the ones who bring you up and listen to this music on a daily for so long.. You only realise how amazing the music is until there gone! Beautiful band! Manny ftw :)

Cause' we're insured. Sad my generation seem to be dead inside. This, and other James songs, were iconic and it makes me emotional just hearing the first few bars because I know them thiat well, but how quickly they forget. When I say 'old' I am not messing about. Me and the boss, we went to school together. If only I had seen James live. I sing myself to sleep wishing I had.
I love the way the performance of this song is changing all through the years... I love all the versions and the message still is important to me in my everyday life. Thank you James
I remember walking into a pub a few years ago and this song was playing and it seemed to make way for a brilliant night. Can’t explain and thanks for posting
I get really happy memories of these seen James about 15 times. Feeling old now remember being so drunk bopping about not a care in the world . Memories
Songs like this great success extend your life! This morning I was listening to it while I was walking along an endless avenue, passing hundreds of people... Everything seemed incredible to me... Beautiful and I felt full of superpowers as if I could stop any damn war!!!
OMG, just discovered this band and they are the best I have hear for long time!!! where has this intelligent and sensitive music disappeared from the the music scene ??? they just don't know how to make such meaningful music anymore!!!
Life long follower . This is my song, I want Tim in the trenches with me . Makes you feel immortal if you connect with this masterpiece. Driven by the Mighty Jim Glennie
..yes yes these words..and seems like most of us ARE in the trenches....and words/songs/music/poetry such as this helps soooo fukin much......thank you James, thank you ALL, for singing out loud always........

Such a powerful band... I love them. This song , this version of it, is so powerful. I want to cry. With Joy, and Frustration, and everything. It moves me....
Why the heck isn't anyone dancing?! You'd have to tie me down to stop me from dancing!! Especially when the bass and drums proper kicked in, I'd have joined in with Tim for sure!! Never get bored or tired of listening to James 😊
strongest mind ....I salute him, But he has the most pretty voice I have ever heard and I heard him when I was 17 and I am now 42 and think the same way. I want him to sing at my funeral.

HELLO FROM A SUNNY GLASGOW. ALL THE BEST MY UNKNOWN FRIEND
Such a special song, born in 91 and this band has such an impact. Saw them last year with my Dad and again this year too. Very special
