As this is an Anniversary Celebration video I didn´t want to split it into multiple parts. So it´s a long one! I recommend watching it in multiple parts - or fast forwarding - or skipping it completely:) But there are some comics here that deserve special attention. Since the piles are this big it´d be interesting to know if there was any comics in them that you didn´t know about before?
As planned, i got back from a long day at work, got into bed and put on this video to be my nightcap. The fact that your introduction is just a list of thanks and gratefulness is not just inspiring and heartening, it speaks to the love you bring to everything you do. Whatever you have , be it subs, views, months making videos - these are just the start and not at all the reason for what you do. Having conversations, making connections, treating both humans and art with respect, these are what are worthwhile and what you focus on. I look forward to many many videos from you as you kick the butt of this cancer. And i look forward to the rest of this video that i will now return to. I just had to paise to say thank you, as I am sure you understand.
I hope you didn´t sleep in and miss your work after lulling with this long video:) Having interaction with other comics fans has been the best thing! Otherwise this would be a somewhat lonely hobby. Some of my friends like to read my comics but I really can´t get them to fuss about them even if I try. But here I can even find myself liking the same comic with someone but disagreeing on the reasons. Now, THAT is fussing! Have a safe work trip🤘
@@analogcomics great video. I watched the whole thing in one go! I think you're in for a treat with many of these works. And yes, that's definitely THE Alan Moore. I too read it recently thanks to a friend in the UK sending it to me and it has quickly climbed in my estimation in this short period. And Taniguchi is a master like few others. I keep avoiding making a video on him because I'm so worried of not doing him justice. I have heard there are some people who don't really care for him, but i find it very hard to see why.
Those same channels are also big influences for me as well. You’re one of them for me as well. Thanks for the great vid, happy anniversary, and many positive vibes your way. Cheers
Your wife is correct FTLOC has got a voice so soothing they should sell audio recordings of it alongside ambient wave or dolphin sounds! Enjoyed every minute of that! Thank you very much for the kind words and I’m glad my blabbering has helped you to create and inadvertently spend money on great books! My favourite thing is monsters really left an impact on me so I’m glad it did the same for you. And I’m going to seek out once upon a time in France and I’m still alive, as they look great and I haven’t heard of them at all.
There is a rumor that waves and dolphins listen to FTLOC to calm down. Your blabbering has been very influential to me. I have always enjoyed laughing at myself so I may as well confess that the first time I watched your video I thought you were Swedish😆I couldn´t place your accent so it took two or three more videos to I realize how silly I was. Our fellow neighbour The Swedes have a certain singing way of pronouncing english and I heard a bit of that in you. Watching those videos now(I did go back to see why I made the mistake) I really can´t see why I thought that way. It´s not like your blond hair and blue eyes fooled me. Remember to add US Naval Institute to your watch list of great comics publishers!
After reading "My Favorite Thing is Monsters," Early Grey immediately made a video because he was so taken by the book, and many of us were taken by Earl's enthusiasm and bought the book. It's very good. Good you are here and happy anniversary.
Great and diverse selection of comics. I hope they’ll help you go through the forthcoming months. Wishing you all the best and a speedy recovery. Cheers 👍🏻💪🏻
Happy anniversary A.C. I'd first seen Tardi's It was the War of the Trenches in the issues of Drawn and Quarterly. I was thrilled when Tardi's WWI comics were compiled into these two books. Great stuff
Thanks! I just started reading the second book of that collection and so far I like it as much as the first one. WW1 was such unnecessarily brutal time. I watched All Quiet On The Western Front movie from Netflix before reading these as it shows the war from German perspective. I need quite many happy books after these to wash out the blood from my mind!
Good to see you back and congratulations for the 1 year anniversary 🥳 I rember the kickstarter campaign for the Arsene Lupin's book. The illustrations were really good but sadly wasn't a comic. If I remember right a similar project about Sherlock Holmes was recently successful. I would be really interesting about a focus on the Lily the thief series. Is it mainly for a younger audience or also enjoyable from an adult? Guess what? One of the new subscriber coming from Angshuman reccomendation it's me 😉
I wish I had paid more attention with Lupin😅Well, live and learn. I enjoyed Lily the Thief. It was fun and light hearted. I am going to do a video about it. And welcome to channel! I believe we have a wide circle of like minded people between these mentioned channels.
Happy Anniversary, hope you are doing well and take care of yourself. I am definitely going to take a look at a few of those graphic novels. I do like fantasy, and read the Elric novels when I was a teenager, so am very interested to see the graphic novel version.
Elric stories puzzle me. I only heard about them couple of years ago. Yet they seem to be well known and have been around since my childhood. Maybe I´ve been so focused on sci-fi that Elric didn´t register. Then again it´s possible that they weren´t translated to Finnish back then.
An eclectic selection on that haul, and definitely my top pick has to be My Favorite Thing is Monsters! Good readings and all the best for the next months. Get well soon 🙏🙏🙏
Small killing is one of Moore's best books, 5 Euros well spent... funny, I've read the same Havank-comic by Darnier/Jippes yesterday: very energetic, cool drawings, but storywise convoluted and cramped - seemed to me that Jippes wanted to prove too many things at the same time. And like you I recently bought the Tardi books about WWI and actually about WWII as well ... I've thought about skipping them for a long time but some fellow German youtuber (der reverend) insisted in a such convincing way, that I could not resist. Take care, I wish you all the strength that you need
That´s good news then! I only know and read the most obvious works from Moore. I´ve liked them(Promethea is the only exception so far) but for some reason never looked deeper. I read that Jippes album and agree with you. Moving that Havank story to different time/reality than the original made the story to choke itself. I assume this character/story had some special value to Jippes as the original writer was Dutch too. I´d still like to more stories in this style but with better script. You avoiding Tardi gave me an idea for a video:)
Happy 1 year anniversary!! I’m excited to see what comics you spotlight in your videos. Looking forward to more of your videos because I am introduced to new comics whenever you post new content.
Finding new comics that you didn´t know existed is such a fun part of this hobby! Glad I could give you those moments. The more I try to know about comics the more I understand it´s impossible to know it all.
That is a heavy dose of violence! I sometimes need lighter/funny stories between the violent ones to flush out the blood. Tardi stories for example are pretty heavy as the suffering he depicts is real.
Found yore side and you have lot about like me Not read superheroes or rare are and Ypu have something to say So Hop see more content For Many Years forward For have a really Good Channel With lot of Good content so Keep up spirit 👌 From 🇸🇪 👍
a detailed review of "Days of sand" would be nice! one of "The eternaut" would be very nice. Do you own also 'Mort cinder'? One review of 'The book tour' would be also great. I don't know this book. 'My favorite thing is monsters'! The artwork is incredible. I love it. Have you read 'The hunting accident'? You have so many good books! I hope, once you have read them, you will make detailed reviews and show us the artwork.
Days of Sand was just as good as I was hoping. And as on the side I learned things about history I was not aware of. I don´t have Mort Cinder. It´s usually listed as horror which I find myself not being able to get into really. But you are right. There was many books in this pile worth their own video. As it happens Eternaut is still waiting to be read as I´ve been re-reading my older European comics again. It just has felt like that for awhile.
Only the first volume has been translated to english. It´s called Lily The Thief and published by First Second(though I can´t find it from their web site). The english version is in color and they have removed blood from certain scenes to make it more fitting to younger audience also. This little change doesn´t really matter. Coloring is by far bigger difference to the black&white Finnish version. You can read the first volume alone as it has a satisfactory ending.
Kato Strange Brain Parts kanavaa.

Two massive piles and more then one well spend hour later. Great short reviews of some great comics. thank you.
I was probably aiming too high with diversity as one of the books wasn’t even a comic book😅But I salute you for enduring both piles!

I read War of the Trenches followed by a Berserk volume and was all mentally torn up by the devastation and rapture each book depicted violence
