    As a Dane, im glad you liked Faraos! :-) They have everything from US Comics, EU Comics and Manga, to Roleplay games, Board Games, card collecting etc etc (In copenhagen they have a shop for each, one for Comics, one for roleplay etc etc). Fantastic and legendary place for Danish people, with the love for comics to go (Not to mention, they do Publish alot of european comics, translated to Danish aswell, under their own label).

      That place is amazing! No lesser word can be used to describe it. In fact I was there again two days before New Years Eve. Just a quick Holiday(Copenhagen is a place I like to visit)but of course I went in and left with a heavy bag. I found also a smaller but also really well kept store Fantask. I left that with another heavy bag😄
      I have to say Danish comics culture shocked me. So much good stuff translated and you’re not THAT much bigger in population compared to Finland. I am openly envious. I did see some of the series had the store’s logo as publisher. It’s a quite clear sign of the status Faraos Cigarer has. I visited their manga store too and it was packed from floor to ceiling with books.

    Great haul. Europe has so many amazing comic shops (I want to check out some Croation ones one day haha) the best comic book shop where I am now is called the Beguiling. In Jamaica there aren't any comic shops at the moment but I think that will change in the near future.

    I'm like your laptop as well... never recognized the point when I turned old, but obviously it had happened 🥸 Great shop (a wall of Hermann-comics!!!). And I was in Copenhagen... actually twice... but did not knew about Faraos Cigarer (what a cool name for a comic shop).

      That store is in fact easy to walk past because it is in a location where you don´t expect to see a comic book store. Premium location next to many stores selling clothes and other things that are waist of money that was meant for comics. Hermann interests me a lot. Based on a small sample that I have read I love his art but not his writing. This place had many Hermanns to choose from but there was generally just way too much stuff. I settled for superficial look and decided to come back one day:)

      give Hermann a second chance. Esp. his short stories can be very brutal and merciless, but eventually most of his stories are in a class of their own in my opinion@@analogcomics

      @@earlgrey862 Hermann will surely get third and fourth chance from me. I really like his style. Bernard Prince is my first contact to his work in 70’s. Then Jeremiah and Bois Maury Towers. But there is only few albums of each available.

      It feels like there is new Tex Willer in news stands every month. And they publish them at least in three different formats so it might be more than just one Tex per month.
      I really don´t understand how there hasn´t been enough effort to get Blueberry back in english. Moebius name still carries a lot of interest and value in anglophone market. I´ve heard that the reason might be on the side of the right owners too. Blueberry was translated and printed in high quality albums by Epic so long ago that most readers don´t even know or remember it anymore. I do have the whole series(also many of those Epic albums) but I wish it was available for larger audience - and that requires english translation.

    I very much like Faraos Cigarer. I have purchased a good amount of things from there.
    Also, mutual intelligibility between Scandinavian languages is especially easy with the written languages, and I am sure that any speaker of Danish / Norwegian / Swedish would be able to fully understand the written language of one of the other Scandinavian languages if they just read a decent amount of it. Unfortunately, most people are now defaulting to English.
    Great video and haul.

      I`ve seen Danish/Swedes/Norwegians speaking with each other merrily as the languages are so close. Unfortunately that doesn´t apply to Finnish language. I wish I had paid more attention at school Swedish lessons:)

    In Mexico we have a similar situation for finding comics like Finland. A few comics on book-stores, some have more and some less, but hey.. 20 years ago comics were a rare thing on book-stores. So is getting better.

    "Shemp Buffet" is definitely sth that you have never seen ... and it is the first of Shaolin Cowboy, the others have a bit more of story to them. "Essex County" was my start to Lemire as well, not perfect, but beautiful. "Rain like hammers"! yay! ... ah Danish... there are a lot of Danes here, as a part of the Danish minority, but I can't say that I understand anything but "Hey" . I really hope that Sillage becomes available again over here in German - in the meantime almost each album is out of print and out of stock.

    • @analogcomics
      @analogcomics  Рік тому +1

      "Hey" goes a long way in human interaction💪I was really banking on the German version of Sillage but it seems they decided to discontinue. Shemp Buffet looked like something that needs that certain mood in order to enjoy it. Now I´m calmly levitating and waiting for that mood to arrive.

    • @analogcomics
      @analogcomics  Рік тому +1

      Amazon lists Sillage #22(came out in France in January) in German as "to be published in 2024" That is strange as all the older albums are going out of print fast without any sign of re-prints.

    • @earlgrey862
      @earlgrey862 Рік тому

      probably and hopefully they go the collected editions route... but they reprint actually so much series in "Integrals" or whatever that the small market maybe is oversaturated and Sillage is way back in the line of titles to get that treatment @@analogcomics

    • @analogcomics
      @analogcomics  Рік тому +2

      I don´t. My generation had to learn Swedish as it´s the second official language in Finland. Swedish is spoken by a minority here and learning Swedish was very unpopular so later it was decided that you could choose to learn it if you want. I wasn´t interested at all back then but luckily I still remember enough to enjoy comics in Swedish - And Swedish is close enough to Danish. Understanding spoken Danish is much harder as they have very thick pronunciation - like a hot potato in mouth.

      @@earlgrey862 I have not yet read anything from him. Would you recommend that over Berlin?

    • @tinustinus571
      @tinustinus571 Рік тому

      From 'The Comics Journal' No 228, interview of Jason Lutes by Greg Stump:
      Greg Stump:
      'In 1994, Jason Lutes released his debut graphic novel, the Xeric-funded Jar of Fools, to unusual praise. Perhaps the strongest and most visible endorsement came from Scott McCloud, who called the book “an instant classic” in a promotional blurb. McCloud’s enthusiasm was generally echoed by the rest of the book’s readership, particularly in Seattle, where it was originally serialized in the alternative weekly paper The Stranger.
      The unique appeal of Jar of Fools was driven home for me at a lecture McCloud gave in a Seattle bookstore shortly after the publication of Understanding Comics. His talk was accompanied by slides of artwork that illustrated various points he was making about the medium. When a panel from Jar of Fools was shown, the audience broke into spontaneous applause.
      Part of the acclaim was for Lutes’ thoughtful story of a down-and-out magician and his troubled relationships. But what set Jar of Fools apart from other debuts was the way it was told. Lutes has more than just a facility for drawing comics; he has a concrete, guiding vision of how the medium works. As a result, he displays a mastery over aspects of the visual language of comics that many cartoonists don’t even consider.'
      Jason Lutes:
      'One of the most gratifying things that’s happened recently was when I read what Scott McCloud wrote about Jar of Fools in Reinventing Comics; he noticed a lot of things that I put in there which nobody had ever noticed before. Because he was analyzing it, he took the time to pay attention to what I put in there. Stuff that other people would just digest instantaneously on the fly, and think about.'
