How good has Nairo's February been actually? We compare his performances to his past and Roglic in Paris-Nice 2021 here - lanternerouge.com.au/2022/02/25/can-quintana-challenge-roglic-in-paris-nice/
I'm reading it, love the nuclear Line graphic, would like to see more graph like this with more lines like thermonuclear or thermobiblical etc 😂😂 Also for paris nice you Say stage 2 is flat sprint but it's usual to see échelons in Paris-Nice's flat stages, even both roglic and Quintana are very good in this job, May be one of them Can crack 😉 Edit : sorry you mentioned it juste after stage 4, my Bad 😅
Go Nairoman.... I hope he's in near career best shape... At least he's attacking and making interesting watching...I think it was the day before watching him blow everyone away on the climb was just as impressive.
This was such a cool race I'm glad you got to do the coverage. I'm the biggest Nairoman fan but I did not expect that even in my most blinded optimistic day. Nairo blew me away. I hope he can battle the Slovenian domination. If he can just hang on in the ITT and not lose tooooo much he can make it happen. He needs to get even better though for the Tour.
One of the more demoralizing aspects of bike racing: clinging to a strong climber, cresting a summit, thinking that you are about to get a recovery, and subsequently getting dropped on the descent.
holy shit, I really hope he is in top shape this summer. when I saw is climbing train I've been so fired up for the races to come ths year. hopefully there will be huge battles in the grand tours
I started watching pro cycling with the TdF in 2012, just to see the beautiful scenery. I stuck through that entire race because of the excitement of what I call the NASCAR effect of watching for spectacular crashes. I tuned in again in 2013, but that time, I started paying attention to individual riders, especially the rookie Colombian. He was my entry point into being hooked on the sport (the TdF is the peak of every summer for me), so I will always be a fan of his. I love seeing these highlights!!
@@l.d.t.6327 The big roads close to the coast? Yes, busy, but a little more inland it's the kind of roads you see in these stages. Too hot? You do know the Tour frequently visits the provence and the regions just north ot the Pyrenees?
@@Jeroen_K you realize the logistics in the tour (and occupancy of e.g. hotels) is far bigger than for this race...? The Tour has largely avoided the Provence for the last 100 years because it's hot and crowdy in summer. It can be hot everywhere (you can't avoid some very hot days), but the stages in between Alps and Pyrenees traditionally are in-between stages. It is what it is. I don't have to convince you about what is the reality, but it seems your opinion isn't shared by the race organiser.
Super exciting to see Nairo bossing the crosswinds, climbing like a beast, and pinning the descents…let’s hope he stays on the bike through the season for some exciting challenges.
Brilliant footage from this race, beautiful and dramatic shots from the helicopter. Really helps to illustrate how hard that slingshot pull from Edet was, beautiful teamwork.
Love watching Nairo race. He always looks so good on his bike - smooth, relaxed, comfortable, stylish. Such a shame that all the petty internal politicking at Movistar denied him some great wins.
@Gone Awry yeah competition is of course better at the TDF but it doesn't make him bad at descending. Is he the best at it, no but he is good for a GC 120-130 lbs guy.
I'd love to see him win the tour. Would take some work but that would be such a throwback to see someone who was challenging for the podium last decade take on the younger generation.
My take on it: Nairo is back 4real 😎 Finally! This year he has already shown 2 stellar performances, why shouldn’t he bring this form into the later part of the season? I’m at least pretty hyped atm. Great rider, hope he can dish out some pain to the Slovenians and spice up the bigger stage races 😆
He does, but this is the part of the season when everyone hasn't done altitude block so him being home in Colombia means his haematocrit is naturally higher then everyone else who had winter break at lower elevation, the advantage diminishes in grand tour when everyone does altitude block before racing
I love cycling but I'm not someone who follows the sport closely, but I've always loved your videos on the subject LR. Very informative and helps someone who just enjoys his long weekend rides understand the top level :)
Nearly 10 years ago, Quintana won stage 6 of 2012 Criterium du Dauphine against the likes of cadel evans and the old Sky train (wiggins, froome, porte, rogers, ...) . He attacked on the climb and they couldn't pull him back on the descent.
Nairoman is a man on a mf mission this year he is absolutely formidable in these mountainous terrain, if he can keep this up he's looking good for a good TDF placing, obvs Rogla and Poggers are still weapons but I can definitely see him dropping either of them on some crazy mountain top finish
@Gone Awry hence why I said "good" not winning, kinda like carapaz last year, excellent climber, super meh TT, I'm not sure if he'd even podium after pogs, Rogla and some ineos guy like Yates or whoever they choose
Nairoman in February. Brings a smile of hope for the Nairoman in July. It sure is awesome to see the Great one showing the young ones how it's done. Looking to the future with anticipation.
Such an underrated rider. Most people think he is a one trick pony, he isn't. He can descent with the best, has done excellent in the cobbles and echelons in the past. His TT is decent considering the guy's size. He always attacks and somehow gets the reputation as a defensive rider just because a couple of times he had to follow wheels and not because he wanted to, just because he didn't have it.
We have dared to dream early season Nairoman make it through July, since his amazing debut really. Just hope there is more than two challengers come July. Love the spirited riding and hope it carries through!
Granted I haven't been watching cycling full time, but it seems that this is the best performance from Quintana I've ever seen. He seems to always blow up, today he didn't. I'll still believe it when I see it come le Tour.
I think for Quintana to succeed in July he'll have to break out every little trick in the book. He's been racing for so long, and he's learned a lot from his mistakes. Maneuvers like this he wouldn't have pulled off at the peak of his GC success, but he's a lot ballsier now. How he'd beat a Pogacar is through cunning.
Excellent summary. Not convinced due to level of competition. Holding judgement after Paris Nice. Really exciting ride, has been a very interesting and fun start to the year.
Nice vlog. Hope Quintana keeps up the good fight. Headed to Nice this morning from Sanremo. 3 day weekend. No where near as fast as these guys. Will go back for the final two stages of Paris / Nice in a couple weeks. Great winter in Sanremo. Mostly sunny weather. A bit chilly in am but beautiful.
Great to see the attacks by Quintana. He seemed to have lost his abilities to do those fearful attacks and become more a diesel type climber but this shows that no longer to be the case.
Top notch presentation. Nairo has oft been just short of his great potential. But he is an element to never dismiss. His absolute mountain ⛰ skills and strength are real. However, Roglic is a great descender too. We’ve seen that; so doesn’t seem to me that’s where Nairo can defeat him. It must be teams and tactics along with dueling beasts mode.
I think few riders were hit as hard by the 2020 covid-reshuffle as Quintana. He was blowing races apart in February. It'll always remain a mystery how things would've gone from there in any 'normal' season, but he can provide part of the answer to that question this year.
This is the southern part of France with the mediteranean sea just a few km's away. It's not uncommon to be sunny and around 20c in the sun at the end of februari.

@@ihzbc km ñ,
I was standing beside the road on the last day as Quintana came hurtling past with 6 kms to go. It was a magnificent performance. Thank you Nairoman 💥
felt the same nostalgia seeing pinot and nairo on that descent, mid 20-teens throwback
Quintana is always a contender in any race he’s in. He makes things happen wether ‘successful’ or not. He’s a true warrior.
Hope he'll do Roubaix

Super exciting to see Nairo bossing the crosswinds, climbing like a beast, and pinning the descents…let’s hope he stays on the bike through the season for some exciting challenges.
The descent specialists are keeping cycling exciting.
I really love that Nairo is going strong. I hope it continues throughout the year.

Love watching Nairo race. He always looks so good on his bike - smooth, relaxed, comfortable, stylish. Such a shame that all the petty internal politicking at Movistar denied him some great wins.
Lantern did you see Mike Woods did 7.75 w/kg for 7mins today! Please do a video! Valverde was right there too! Beast mode climbing
NAIROMAN The most electrifying man in sports entertainment
he´s very strong both mentally and physically , glad for him. Greetings from Bogota.
Nairo seems to have up and down moments. No doubt the dude can climb lol. I hope he does well at TDF after Movistar screwed him over.
@Gone Awry there there, no need to be that toxic. i'm a big fan of pog too but if nairo keeps this good performance up he might have a nice spot in gc
@Gone Awry His TT is often not great but he can descend (have you watch the video, he litteraly drops guys from his wheel while descending).
@Gone Awry did you even watch the video? It's talking all about his INSANE descending.
@Gone Awry yeah competition is of course better at the TDF but it doesn't make him bad at descending. Is he the best at it, no but he is good for a GC 120-130 lbs guy.
Yes. Wellens is a great cyclist. Tons of heart. So nice to see him succeeding.
I love seeing Quintana ride well. Wow
Absolute fine strategy, and impecable Nairo's perfomance... Thanks to him for this kind of exhibitions, nice 202 for cycling fans
Roads and scenery looking absolutely stunning there, seems amazing to ride
Glad to see quintana at this level

This is one of the best performances I've seen from Nairo Quintana. He's in amazing form this year 2022.
I'd love to see him win the tour. Would take some work but that would be such a throwback to see someone who was challenging for the podium last decade take on the younger generation.
He is very good climbing hills, and now I can see he is improving the way he descents. He is a true warrior and watch him in the Tour De France.

The Frodo quote killed me. LR is the best thing to happen to cycling commentary since Phil L became a tour guide.
