  • Stepper motors suddenly refused to respond.
    Had yet another board failure on this 'lemon' Creality ender 3 V2 printer. My other one works fine and never has any issues. Here is how I did the troubleshooting and what I found.

    Thank you so much for this vid. I bought mine, put it together, attempted to auto-home and the motors clunked on and buzzed and did nothing. Nothing moved. I contacted the seller on Amazon about this looking for a new board (until I can get the big tree one) or a partial refund.

    I had this exact same problem to the T.
    I had installed a brand new 4.2.7 silent motherboard. Putting my old 4.2.2 motherboard back in solved the issue. I’m convinced it’s the board too.

    In your video you say that the Firmware is not the issue. Well I just had the EXACT same issue you are talking about here. So I updated my hardware to include a new hot end and leveling sensor. I had to update the firmware for the leveling sensor to work and the latest firmware on Creality's site is Marlin for V4.2.3. I installed this firmware and my printer locked the motors. It worked perfectly the day before I did the upgrades. I researched this a bit which lead me to this video, and other forums that mention that the 4.2.2 board cannot run the 4.2.3 firmware as it uses different driver chips. I needed to go into the archive on Creality to find the V4.2.2 firmware that works with the auto leveling sensor. I did and now my printer works perfectly once again. Maybe your basket case just needs the right firmware loaded. 4.2.3 doesn't work with 4.2.2

    My ender 3 max failed after a power surge in the neighborhood. I replaced the 4.2.2 main board with a 4.2.7. I created the firmware using the Marlin source code for the 4.2.7. I have a friend that had a similar problem with the printer just stopping part way through a print and could never figure out exactly why. It has the 4.2.7 board and what I did was load the WRONG firmware first, then rebooted and loaded the correct firmware from Creality for the 4.2.7. No problems since. This was a suggestion I read on some forum somewhere. Makes no real sense, but it worked........

    I have a new ender3 V2 with a 4.2.2 board. The y-axis motor makes a thud sound and doesn't move. after swapping x for y on the board, i realized that the driver is bad. Is this fixable by firmware upgrade?

    • @rogersshop
      @rogersshop  Рік тому

      If the driver on the board failed (common), you will either need to replace the board (suggest 4.7.7 if going with Creality). I have one of mine with a 4.2.2. board and it has been giving me issues. Will soon be upgrading to a Bigtreetech board and display.

      I can "sort of" address your second problem with the Ender 3 Pro, although I had this issue with a different brand printer. If I sliced the project with Cura 5.x, it would keep running beyond the purge and fist layer, but then stop extruding. If I sliced with Cura 4.x, this did not happen. I have no explanation for this............

      Either the stepper motor is bad, the cable to the Z axis is bad, or the driver on the board has failed. Try swapping the Z axis output on the board to the X or Y cable and motor. If this works correctly, then the motor or cable is bad. If problem still persists, the board has failed.

    Steps per millimeters?

    • @rogersshop
      @rogersshop  2 роки тому

      This depends on axis, or if you are looking at the extruder. These four steps per mm are not the same and need to be calibrated, which is more than I can put here in a reply. As a starting point (if you have lost factory settings) is X and Y are usually around 80, Z is around 400, and the extruder is around 100. These would be starting points, but calibration needs to be done to narrow down the most accurate settings.
