Deltoid Injection for Vaccination
The deltoid intramuscular injection is a common procedure. One must be aware of the proper location for the injection and the proximity of the neurovascular structures present within the involved region. The size of the deltoid mass is small in relationship to other IM injection sites (this leaves a small margin for error at the deltoid site for injection). Deltoid injection is ideal for administering vaccinations. Accurate identification of the safe zone for injection is important. The correct location for the injection is in the middle part of the deltoid muscle from the side view. The acromion process is a great landmark to help in selecting the proper site for injection. Identify the acromion and go about 2.5cm to 5cm below the acromion (ideal site for injection), which is about 1-2 inches below the acromion. For deltoid intramuscular injection, you can use the square method or the triangle method. Both methods are about the same. If you superimpose both injection techniques, the ideal site for injection remains about the same. Some people may make a triangle with the fingers as shown here in order to have a proper location for the injection. You can see that the top finger is over the acromion process. Inferiorly, there is less of a safe zone due to the close proximity of the neurovascular bundle to the inferior part of the deltoid. Care must be given not to cause injury to the axillary nerve and the radial nerve during intramuscular injection of the deltoid muscle. The axillary nerve runs transversely from posterior to anterior about 7cm distal to the acromion. The injection site should not exceed 5cm distal to the acromion because this is the danger zone and the axillary nerve can be injured.
News reporters should be publicizing this type of information to raise public awareness on relevant issues.
Why not design a simple "Injection Template" which can be placed ON the arm and adjustable based on the size of the Arm, so the Point of Injection is always 100% correct.
It wouldnt be sterile.
@@dh6865 it doesn't need to be sterile
They need to use a ruler or measuring tape. And mark it. Too much guesstimation
@@dh6865 apply it, and use alcohol to clean the area inside the square - injection site just needs to be prepped with alcohol, anyway.
Yeah because we want nurses who can't find the shoulder
You have the danger site in the same zone as the preferred injection site!!
Inj site up to 5cm down. Danger site 5 to 7 cm
@@dh6865 Small margin of error, especially for a new nurse or inexperienced pharmacy due to distance increments and methodology regarding how to measure from top of shoulder.
@@jeffzest8393 true easy easy way is where your 3rd finger would lie from the boney area down.
@@dh6865 Center of third finger or after third finger Thanks.
@@jeffzest8393 well i place two fingers then go about 10mm under that. So where the third would lie. You will fel the muscle is more squishy.
Very helpful. Now I know the right proximity, not too low so not to hit the axillary nerve.
If is 2" down from highest point of acromion is the injection site then, the picture where it shows 2 fingers from acromion then do the V shape with X in middle =injection site (this is much further down than 2 " ) .
BTW - some people have very wide fingers and some w/ skinny narrow fingers.
Sir which is the triceps injection site please make a video
Now i know to inject by myself thank you
5 m is slightly below 2 inches. Three fingers or 2" is ideal spot according to most publications. That is dangerously close to your danger zone.
jazakAllah, it was very helpful..
OK, anybody understand that?! Not super clear when last 20 seconds he throws in nerve damage!
me too confused
He simply said that don't go below 5cm from acromion because that's a danger zone as axillary nerve passes through that area...
@@AmanSingh-tk3oz He threw in "danger" at the end, did not fully explain, and has a quite small margin of error for something so serious according to his statements. Point is.....need to make more than simple and explain more thoroughly. Others agree.
In the triangle method, the drawing shows the bottom apex below where the fingers separate.
Acromion site? How do I know where that is? This whole video is confusing.
Now am confused 😐 How can the same safe position still be unsafe
Exactly
It is seen that some having pain after covid vaccine on shoulder, and a inflammation or pain redness at old BCG vaccination scar (mark). Is there anyone who has heard of it or feels pain at vaccination scar. I'm presently doing a research on this
godd illustration of the site but the avoidance of angulatin of the needle should also have been emphasized
I was vaccinated my second dose near the posterior part is this ok or what ?!
If this dangerous should not be given by pharmacy techs.
Holy shit, my second pfizer shot made me have extremely nagging pain and low movement.... Nobody knew what it was, had problems for months...
Simple and excellent
I think there was a landmark an error in my Covid vaccine because I now have SIRVA. It feels like severe shoulder bursitis but different in that the pain is constant the range of motion is limited and there is no relief from NSAID’s.
I'm having similar. How's your shoulder pain now?
All sh0ts are p0ison, DON'T take anymore !!!
@@cheyennes654 shush
@@cheyennes654 okay cheyenne, have fun with Polio
Inferior part of deltoid? Where or what is that?!
In this case 'inferior' means 'lower'. Superior means 'higher'. The real definitions are basically 'below and above' So, the inferior portion of the deltoid muscle is the lower portion. If you give an injection too high in the deltoid, you can screw up badly by putting the needle into the bursa, a fluid filled sack within the shoulder joint. That can cause the poor person years worth of bad shoulder pain and the inability to move that joint without excruciating pain!
@@jazzcatt For something so serious, why do we have shots given by pharmacy techs?
@@jazzcatt you mean above the deltoid? Anywhere on the deltoid not going to cause that? If not, margin for error is marginal.
I'd try a polio vaccine if I had foot swelling problems.
This was very helpful during corona vaccination
Thanks for the info
Great video
Very helpful information sir
Pls, wat if d injection isn't given at d exact site..but still around d upper arm will it work same?
Excellent question. From what I have read, yes, the same efficacy if intramuscular.
Thank You, very informative.
Because doctors ‘know what they’re doing’ and wouldn’t use such an aid. Like my doctor today. Gave me the booster. About 7-8 cm below the acrominon process.
Yes since old school 2fingers width down.
Thank you sir..
Thanks
V v good video
Thank you. It's very helpful 🙏🌷✨
excellent
Thank you sir
My vaccine was injected right on my acromion. What does that mean for me??
Bro am also injected on right... Is this ok or not🥺pla reply
I was also injected too high. Now I am having sharp arm pain. It's only a a second day, so it may me just because of vaccine itself, but I think they made a hole in my rotator cuff. I am so annoyed if this is the thing. I am having problems with my right shoulder and if they broke my left one too. So unprofessional. I am making a complaint tomorrow, if arm still hurts like this. This feels like rotator cuff issue, but we will see.
@@xvnbm take care bro😇for me there is no issues

deltoid is good target for delta ;)
HOLD UP.... Deltoid... Delta? Am I crazy?
👍👍👍
Quadratus lumborum much better option
Deltoid... Covid Delta 🤔
