I've just started the game, my sole goal to get the guitar. Holy shit, this is the best guitar prop in any game ever. My favorite thing to do now is start servers where I sit and practice, and other people will hop in and do some fishing and chat with me while I practice my song. Immaculate vibes. My only wish is that each guitar has its own set of preset chords, so you could set up one for a specific jam and then another for example with a bunch of basic chords. I also wish that you could tune down strings lower than standard, playing with a baritone guitar or dadgad or something would be a dream. God I love this game
crazy there was a game that was basically a MMO "forum" called meadow that had chill vibes as such and beautiful music and textures; while being different animals collecting stuff in the woods, no text or chat option, so you had to comminate with emotes and animal signs, i miss that game. this game gave me those feels a bit
the sad part is, social landscapes are so hostile these days that, in the way of people just making discord servers naively thinking they're just going to be able to create a fun, safe, calm environment for people to hang out in, webfishing is, if it not already has, going to face the same thing where people can't just be chill and go hang out, they gotta be mean and malicious. i would love to open a server and just have cool people come hang out but i don't trust the internet to not be cruel so i only play this game with my partner and my friend when they have time. it's still a fun time but i'm desperately lacking friends and socialization bc i simply do not trust the internet enough to open social spaces to meet new people and make new friends.
I have 70+ hours on this game, playing almost exclusively on public lobbies, and I have yet to see anyone be socially toxic. More power to you however you wanna play, but the Webfishing community is genuinely one of the least toxic ones I've seen.
I was waning to make this EXACT essay but didn't have the experience with editing needed for it, I'm so glad someone else did it for me haha! I'm glad to see someone touching on the atmosphere as well. my other favorite thing is the slow manual nature of things. my best example is that rather than just spawning a chair and sitting, you have to set the chair up, jump on it, and use a sit emote. it feels like playing with toys instead of the game automating some of the most fun parts.
I used to play Sky to socialise and have fun interacting with random people, but the collectathon, fomo, microtransaction aspect the devs seem to have most of their focus on made it stop being fun for me. I’ll give this game a try, thanks for covering it.
Same here too. Played Sky since it got released in Android. It was fun and beautiful game, but the microtransactions is too much and I got burned out from it. Webfishing is so refreshing because it's a simple game with no microtransactions. They even encourage modding such as cosmetics so the game is still free for all.
yesterday i joined someone's server, we chatted nonsense for a bit and they drew my character and gave me a 1,3k fish.. i love this game bc the internet was made for kind interactions like this
This game is exactly what I've loved all these years about coming back to runescape. YEAH its changed. But its still very possible to huddle around any resource, say one snide comment, and then quickly realize 'oh I've been talking to these dorks from Australia for 9 hours..... It helps that I'm a strong advocate for the philosophy of "The game aint finished until it has a fishing minigame"
Imagine playing a bot service. There are so many bots its not even fucking worth it dude. BTW who is stella pig? Who is simping so bad that they spam it constantly?
I use to play a lot of maplestory. This video made me realise I spent a lot of my time just talking to peeps while grinding out the levels. Talking to people and making groups chats between the friends you found on quest and running around. Now if you log on there’s almost no talking at all. No party quest. They made leveling the goal of the game and it’s sad. I’m gonna try this game. Thanks.
if you like the vibe and aesthetic of this game PLEASE play A Short Hike!!! It’s a singleplayer indie platformer with a similar artstyle and a super relaxing vibe. Its not difficult but it’s still rewarding at the end and I find myself replaying it all the time just because the movement is so satisfying. It is uncanny how much Webfishing reminds me of A Short Hike lol
see, you get it. This is a game genre that people have been craving back from games that seem like they were otherwise long gone. I saw another video where someone was bashing this for "boring" fishing and not having immesive gameplay but I just sat there, so mad trying to find a way to explain how glorious this game is but i couldn't remember what the name of the genre this game perfectly captures. This video, captures everything I wish I could've emphasized to this guy on why this is more than just a fishing sim, and is perfect as is.
I really like the idea of no voicechat and just strictly text, especially when they've done it that well! It's sometimes nice to just have a low effort, cozy, socail game, where you don't have to get 'engaged' with your voice or real person. You can just be a lil cool dude, doing lil stupid things, just getting social through a internet barrier. I like the idea of making online friends, but not having to engage with voicechat etc.
This is what i used to love about Gaia Online. It was an anime based forum site first and foremost, but I almost exclusively hung out in the casual multiplayer games of which it had so many to pick from, it was a great way to make new friends and get wacky
Thank you for this video, Lucid - have been seeing a lot about Webfishing lately, but I think I’ll finally check it out thanks to your discussion about it here. Younger me was too nervous to interact much with the social features of early online games, and most efforts today seem ignored or just not right for the kind of atmosphere games are in now. I may not know much about fishing or the web, but I’d like to try if it means more friends and more good times. Great video, Lucid - I’ll be sure to come back for more.
As someone who played many mobile games with chatroom feature (in-game chat) it usually didn't end up long that people decided to switch to Discord instead just talking in game. When WEBFISHING came out, I went to check it's OG which is actually different from the Steam version.
W RuneScape clip btw, while I’m not sure I would recommend finding friends on there as most of them are trying to take something from you, I do love me some OSRS.
First time viewer! I saw Webfishing a while ago and was curious what the hubbub was about, so thanks for making this video. I have fond memories of playing Habbo, Club Penguin, Coke Studio, and Toontown etc. so Webfishing is appealing to me. I still think you can see these sorts of “chat communities” in games like Fortnite, Minecraft and Roblox but those are definitely more player-crafted than developer-curated experiences. Maybe this will spark a revival in the genre of multiplayer cozy games!
The Chatroom genre is very active in VR. Notably Gorilla Tag is basically a chat room/hang out game and it is the most profitable modern VR game with it recently hitting $100M lifetime revenue.
In a similar vein, Tower Unite has been my friend group's go-to "just hang out" game for years now, and is highly underrated imo. Yes there are a lot of mini games that can get competitive, but mainly we enjoy playing the arcade games together, decorating our condos, fishing, putting videos on in the movie theater, and generally chilling in the lobby.
pony town in the corner looking at this all. The only problem with Ponytown is that there are no mini games to distract yourself while chatting with people, which is why I think webfishing works so well
You did just pull up some positive memories for me of making friends in online games. I have worked so hard on developing my IRL social skills and been so turned off of competitive games that I blocked out my middle and high school years which were saved by these types of games. Thank you, I look forward to your future content.
great video, toontown is one of my favorite games ever and i occasionally play rewritten and I loved the mention of minecraft chat becoming solely bots and commands, its a great observation i hadnt put much thought into
I used to spend hours and days in boom ang and Habbo, just talking with other players, and i remember many great people ive meet there. I dont know when it changed, but nowadays i feel a waste of my free time if im not actively getting "happiness" from the game, completing activities, getting rewards... Advancing in any direction. Jeez this video made me stop and think. Why am i like this now? Is it because i just grew up? Maybe i just forgot how to find the fun in the non-activity and relaxation? Maybe world just made me so stressed that i need to be constantly chasing a goal? Will give this game a try soon, when i feel im in the correct mood to reconnect with my inner child and maybe find a way to enjoy the slower pace. Great video!!
this review convinnced me to try this game, seems like a great time and reminds me of some of the best times i've had on minecraft just strip mining n chilling in vc with people
I was wondering why this game made me feel like I was playing Maplestory!! Spent so much time just chatting with people and laughing at the conversations through text. amazing video!
Hell, 95% I hop on VR I’m only doing it to play a game while chatting with strangers. I haven’t even finished the video and I’m already hooked, pun intended.
Awesome video, might have to finally check webfishing out. I worried I'd get addicted to it like I did with many games like it, but I miss club penguin and old minecraft so much I gotta tap in. Cool video dude!
I've seen this game go viral with lots of content being recommended to me by recommendation algorithms (specifically those influenced by other users' interactions) on not only UA-cam, but some of the other social media services I use, and your video helped explain why! Thanks!!
It's 2024 and people realize that games that are chill and fun, are good. What a time to be alive. No sacrasm, I'm genuine, the recent state of gaming was just depressing for me.
I feel like Deep Rock Galactic can almost function like a chatroom. that's likely attributable to it's tendency to have a laid back community and a dedicated hang out space for dwarves not in missions.
I'd say it's more the type of game of to kick back and chill with friends in that manner, since lobbies aren't big enough to have that "chatroom" vibe. But definitely get what you mean
That’s exactly what I was thinking of!! Roblox, vrchat, and many other games that had competitive elements like overwatch have had chat room elements for YEAAARRS. People think vrchat is only on vr but people chat in vr, mobile, and pc. This was never a dead genre
You nailed a feeling that I didn't even know I had. Growing up, I basically only played Gmod (because that was the only game my crappy computer could run). That wasn't really a problem, though, because Gmod is so diverse and (importantly) COMMUNITY-ORIENTED. It was so easy to hop onto a server and share experiences with other people and bond over those experiences. When I got my new (better) computer, I was able to play tons of other games. But game nowadays really don't come anywhere near the community-building and experience-sharing that Gmod had/has to offer.
Also check out Tower Unite. It is a feature rich chat game where you can bowl, gamble at a casino, play arcade games, minigames like golf, racing, zombie shooters, etc. You can also buy condos and decorate them and throw parties and have people over. You can even load up youtube on to screens in game to play videos for others.
I'm fucking sold. In terms of multiplayer games, the competitive ones just appeal to me less and less over time while this looks exactly what I wanted out of ACNH's multiplayer. Instant purchase.
Started playing webfishing 5 days ago, I already racked up over 30+ hours of gameplay. It was sooo fun and addicting. I love chatting with friends that I met at a random lobby, we are now steam friends and we often join them on a lobby. I also love the whimsy part of collecting fishes to complete the journal, and scream in chat 'WHALE!!!' whenever a player managed to fish a huge whale that takes up the whole screen, it was so funny. Highly recommend the game! It's cozy fun game. There's a lot of mods there too that anyone can enjoy such as QoL, adding extra features, cosmetics, etc.
I really love webfishing!! and it makes sense why as i also miss the days of club penguin and other chatroom games. They were my favourite as a kid bc i was pretty shy irl and it was nice to feel like i had friends lmao. I never really got into fps, and when i dipped my toe into them when i got older i was met with a lot of rude people in VC and chats because I wasn't very good and put me off completely for the most part. I just didn't understand or like the culture of being mean and competitive, so I'm glad there's games like webfishing that are really chill and cozy! 🖤
Sky to me is more of grinding currency, you don't really get to talk to people much. They also generally dont have much to say?? yeah idk. but it is genuinely beautiful
@ it is very very grindy but to new players it’s much better grind wise(before the realization sets in LMAO),, i usually go to prairie if i want to chat with strangers
@@kqlolll2618it wasn’t as much of that back when it first launched I’d say, personal experience but I met so many nice people and we’re great friends till this day even tho the game got too grindy for us But yeah new players won’t find it as grindy for sure (yes, before the realisation sets in XD) and I wish they pushed the social aspect more 😔
This game brought out my inner yapper. Even in vrchat i only ever played with a dedicated group. But in webfishing I’m more than happy to join a public lobby, talk nonsense with a bunch of strangers, and get my K.K. Slider on. You can often tell the vibe of a lobby by the name too, and if the vibes turn out to be rancid it takes less than a minute to try another. Interacting with new players is also surprisingly fun, showing them secrets or gifting them 99 beers and watching them discover the drunk text effect. What a game, man. What a game.
Recently found the car equivalent of this game „Motor Town: Behind the wheel“ you can do a multitude of jobs, race or just drive around and chat with people on the server. It immediately reminded me of this video.
Reminds me a bit of the vibe I used to enjoy hanging out on Feral Heart as a kid, no social expectations but could feel free to go to the clearly active spots and join in the public group activity lol
yess!! Finally someone mentioned feral heart. I remember people were so welcoming & friendly during the height of its popularity. Feral heart's precursor & the bigger Impressive Title servers were also like that too (Dragon's den, Wolf Soul). Too bad Feral heart and most Impressive Title (besides semi active Dragon's den) servers are ghost towns now :/
This is a fantastic video! You hit so many of the reasons why I love this game. It’s gotten a ton of my friends who I don’t normally play with to play with me! It’s so cool just chilling with them :]
That is very interesting however Lucid seem to not know about Roblox, I always wondered why some Roblox games dont get outside to steam or consoles. I would consider Roblox to be the biggest chatroom game, and the most popular game on Roblox is a game where there is no real game play(brookhaven), its just a suburban town that kids come to hang out, chat and play pretend, it got an average concurrent player of 300K players at any given time and its just one game on that platform there are many like it and other with lo key mechanic and close and nit communities around it (just to compare fortnite average is 1.5m)
I know about Roblox, and have played it several times over the course of years. It wasn't discussed in this video for two reasons: 1. It's community-driven nature leads to it being kind of difficult to define. In essence, it is a game engine, more than a game, so I felt it was out of the scope of this video. 2. It came out a long time ago, over a decade now, so it doesn't contribute to the lack of chatroom games in the modern day.
@@LucidMakesVideos I think it replaced the chatroom games, the kids who played club pinguin goes in to play roblox games. and most of the succsufull games over there are chatroom games basically. when i play (for research i am a game designer) I always engage with the players in the server if the game mechanic is part of also if i dont know how to play a game there is always someone that is chatty and gain friends and my own community that we can play different games when we done with the current one

Great video! Thank you. Voice chat absence is saddening but I get why it is the way it is
just a warning to everyone there is a huge cheater problem with ppl deleting your rod getting you softlocked and even joining private lobbies
Guessing these "people" are brown? What a shock. Imagine my utter surprise.
yesterday i joined someone's server, we chatted nonsense for a bit and they drew my character and gave me a 1,3k fish.. i love this game bc the internet was made for kind interactions like this
9:25 Man my Mechatronics Engineering degree has brainwashed me into thinking that was the reading fromman oscilloscope lol
5:56 i legit thought the white shirtless cat/dog was minos prime from ultrakill
I haven’t even thought about chat room games for so long, that brings back so much nostalgia, just unlocked so many memories
I have been itching for a game like this. Thank you for sharing, I am totally getting it.
Honestly miss these types of games.. One that was very niche was Whirled. Absolutely loved that game
I spent years in whirled and have so many memories. I never see anyone mention it
Heck yeah!
I started my own Warrior Cats clan on there and had a good 20 person group going.
Add a camping/cook feature and I'M IN.
VRChat: exists
Quake: exists
0:14 whats the song? it sounds like something off of sonic riders
nvm its sonic riders 😛
Ahhh a cultured soul, glad to see people recognize music from that game ( ̄^ ̄)ゞ
W RuneScape clip btw, while I’m not sure I would recommend finding friends on there as most of them are trying to take something from you, I do love me some OSRS.
You've convinced me. I have to go give webfishing a shot.
Nice to see EmpLemon's influence on YTers style. Need more videos like this
In a similar vein, Tower Unite has been my friend group's go-to "just hang out" game for years now, and is highly underrated imo. Yes there are a lot of mini games that can get competitive, but mainly we enjoy playing the arcade games together, decorating our condos, fishing, putting videos on in the movie theater, and generally chilling in the lobby.
Webfishing puts my brain on sleep mode
pony town in the corner looking at this all.
I feel like Deep Rock Galactic can almost function like a chatroom. that's likely attributable to it's tendency to have a laid back community and a dedicated hang out space for dwarves not in missions.
agreed
ROCK AND STONE!
I'd say it's more the type of game of to kick back and chill with friends in that manner, since lobbies aren't big enough to have that "chatroom" vibe. But definitely get what you mean
@@cheddZyPlays You're right, maybe they should add fishing
@@shrmp02 and as we all know a fishing minigame is a requirement for a 10/10 rating
A friend bought it very recently and I wasn't sure to buy it but this video made me want to play it, good video, I miss the club penguin era so much
This isn't a dead genre. 1:19 You even say chat room...come on! VRChat was huge at some point

Based on the view count, I think you may be in the bubble. That sucks because I really like this video so please don't give up on making more like it
I have added it to my wishlist. thank you!
as of right now its grindy to fill up the fishdex as ill call it and lacking good content variety
PLEASE examine the items game on FunnyJunk. Perfect avenue to explore with a decade of lore
You hit the nail on the head with what makes this game so special. one of the best videos on Webfishing I’ve seen
This is such a well put video! Webfishing really is such a unique experience in modern day, I'm real glad you talked about it! :)
8:53 ROCK AND STONE BROTHER
Did I hear a rock and stone?
8:57 DE BLOB LETSSSS GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Banger vid! I am gonna try out the game tomorrow :)
This is exactly how I treated RuneScape when I was growing up. Never got super high level because I was always too busy talking to people 😂
Your video essays are getting better with each one! I'm definitely checking this game out
I really love webfishing!! and it makes sense why as i also miss the days of club penguin and other chatroom games. 🖤
Try "Sky: Children of the light" It's very similar in terms of social aspect, but you can also utilize a lot of different emotes for comunication
i wanted to comment about this !! do recommend, its accessible on mobile and other platforms aswell
It's also free to play, but has in app purchases, but they're not neccessary to buy.
@@kqlolll2618it wasn’t as much of that back when it first launched I’d say, personal experience but I met so many nice people and we’re great friends till this day even tho the game got too grindy for us
But yeah new players won’t find it as grindy for sure (yes, before the realisation sets in XD) and I wish they pushed the social aspect more 😔
This brought back a LOT of memories, mostly where I spent hours talking with people in Club Penguin and RuneScape.
This brings me back to old runescape, just sitting on the dock fishing for sharks with random people. Truly a vibe.
Too bad Feral heart and most Impressive Title (besides semi active Dragon's den) servers are ghost towns now :/
brother has never heard about VRChat if you think that this is a "dead" genre lol
This is a fantastic video! You hit so many of the reasons why I love this game.
It’s gotten a ton of my friends who I don’t normally play with to play with me! It’s so cool just chilling with them :]
the turnaround on this video is so fast i JUST started hearing about this game from my friends
i love telling my online friends about the game its so sweet seeing everyone run to a rain cloud to fish under it too its like asmr
It wasn't discussed in this video for two reasons:
I've been longing for a chat room game recently. Thanks for pointing this out
I've never been so excited to relax and make new friends before!!! Thank you for telling me about this game ^^
In this game for 10 hours so far ive bought the therapy chair and spare chairs. With those items I have hosted open therapy sessions where I let people talk with someone to listen to
