$500 was the quote I got from Lexus for parts/labor. Bought a set from Amazon for $20. I was able to get the old struts off with just a screwdriver… whole process took 5 minutes! Thanks
I had been putting this off because I though I would need a special tool or it would be impossible to get to the bottom clamp. Thank you for explaining this on video. I completed it in less than 10 minutes. My Wife is happy.
Thanks man! I have the same car, same issue, just bought new struts on Amazon for the hood and for the back lift gate. Your video helped me to do the job.
What??? I'm not surprised, they quoted my son $400 to replace one HID headlight bulb. I'm ordering one for $55 from Amazon. Definitely helps to do some simple DIY.
my rear hatch failed at 10yrs at 170K miles, i can see the rear hatch struts failing but the front hood????...how often do you have to gawking at your engine bay anyway.
It’s a small money to have convenience of hood struts working for oil change, replace engine air filter, refill windshield washer, check coolant level, etc. especially for people like me that do their own maintenance.
C-clamp was already on the new struts, and you can install it without removing it. New struts easily snaps into place with just a little bit of pressure.
It can help but only if you use “dry lube” that’s doesn’t collect dust. Because it’s not sealed a regular grease or oil will collect dust and eventually make it worse because it’s not completely sealed. I’d you search WD-40 dry lube, you’ll find the spray.
Dont use the cheap Amazon hood struts. They break fast and often. Spend a little more money and buy a solid 3rd party like Sachs "Stabilus" from Rock Auto.

Good job. Yeah, for simple DIY like this is not worth paying $500. Thanks for the feedback.
Thanks for the video. Thanks for the heads up for the bottom latch. I used a screw driver to push it out.
You saved me 2 hours and 450 bucks. Thanks!
Wow. Nice going.
This is the right way to do a quick-n-dirty how-to... thanks for not padding it with too much monologue!

Yup, sometime we spend more time thinking about it than doing it. At least for this simple work. Glad it helped and thanks for commenting back.
This video might not make you any money but saved us quite a bit of money and time! 🙏
Thanks for the feedback.

Great to hear. No sense paying Lexus dealer 300-400 for this 5 minute work. LOL
Perfect! Just what I needed. Thank you
Just as easy as shown. Thanks for the video
Dealer charges me $400 for this. You are a lifesaver!

Thanks for sharing! It’s very informative
Very clear, just changed, thx
@@sharonc8632 good job thanks for the feedback.
Thank you so much!!! We did it in 10 minutes 🎉
Superb. Thanks for the feedback
@@DIYLifeSkills also those clams could be broken with pliers since they are not needed any more.
Nice work!
Saved my bacon....10 minute job after video!
Great job. :-)

Are you happy with the parts from Amazon?
It’s a hit or miss on aftermarket parts but this one is good. Especially when dealer is asking crazy high price.
Thank you for sharing. Did you have to put the C-clamp back on the new supports?
C-clamp was already on the new struts, and you can install it without removing it.
New struts easily snaps into place with just a little bit of pressure.
Rock Auto is the best for parts resource.
Agree especially if you are buying multiple items to save on delivery charges, but shipping cost on buying one cheap item can make it costly.
Nice video
should you add grease into the joint?

What’s the name of the tool that looks like a flat head screw driver with a curved tip?
It’s called small pry bar. 3 different size set is $8 at harbor freight. www.harborfreight.com/3-piece-pry-bar-set-66840.html
FYI it helps to have a slightly curved top to pop out the strut but long flathead screwdriver works nearly as well. Let me know how it goes.
@@DIYLifeSkills I was able to do the work with a long flathead screwdriver. Thanks for the video! I saved money with your help!
@@mikethomas5352 Great to hear. I know Lexus dealer want to charge as much as $450. Crazy.
Thanks. Firestone wants $400 to replace these. 😢
Incredible what people try to charge for 5 minute work with $30 part. Did you get it done?

I got mine from RockAuto, they are cheap as well in $$.
