    Sir this video is beautiful but I have very little knowledge about bansuri .Could you please make it more clear to play Sa re ga ma pa like by step by step like first practising of sa for some time only and after that ga and all , this is because I want to learn it and I didn't get the notes properly .because I think for the beginners like me are needed this step by step . And you are playing the bansuri magically , oh it is beautiful.

    Thank you soooo much for yr prompt reply! The bansuri seems to have become my mission & my passion: my answer to all my questions infact! My teacher - a young college student, is quite impressed by my progress (in a week's time i am able to play the pancham, if that's any indication).This is just to convey to you an idea, not in the least bit to brag :)
    I am presently practising on a 21" long flute and hope to go on to playing the E flute soon.. I'll appreciate all the tips from you.

    Good point, Menon saheb. Just one minor clarification "When u gradually open the 7th from all 7 closed u get the ma-pa meend. " I think what you meant was you get the Pa-Ma meend. We will be going from PA (all closed) to Ma (7th half open). Thank you for your input.

I think without humbleNess and truthful ness Bansi cannot be learned. This is the lesson which shri Krishna gives through his bansuri. Regards

    Hello, you staed you were unsure about the role of the 7th hole.
    When Pannalal Ghosh began inventing the longer bansuris around 1936, he used the seventh hole to expand the tonal range of the bansuri so it was more suitable to playing certain ragas. The finest bansuri player who uses the 7th hole in this tradition is Nityanand Haldipur, senior disciple to Annapurna Devi.
    If you Google "Nityanand Haldipur Yamini" you can see the very deep and beautiful tones he obtains from the 7th hole in this exquisite version of Raag Yemen. Kindly, Matt in California.

    • @rskhanna786
      @rskhanna786  6 років тому

      Matt Dubuque thank you! Does the seventh hole give us an extra half note?

    • @vayuflute3717
      @vayuflute3717 6 років тому

      That depends on where the hole is placed. For example, in a Carnatic flute with 8 holes, the seventh hole gives a full note below the 6th. There is another important reason for the seventh hole which I have explained in a separate note.

    Thank you for posting this video.I appreciate yr replying to the questions which makes me post mine.
    1) I am 40 yrs & have started playing the bansuri about a week ago.I absolutely love it and want to explore it to the fullest. My ques: is it 'too late'?? As in i wish to take it up even professionally!
    2) I am learning on the 'A' flute. Sa re ga ma is playing clearly, but pa dha ni san, is not happening very well.. Any tips on how to perfect the entire sargam?
    Thank u so much for yr attention

  • @rskhanna786
    @rskhanna786  13 років тому

    @anathieeify Sorry about the ineaxct term "sharper blow." What I mean is, you have to blow harder to shift octaves (Saptak). Although, in the wester system of flute playing, you just change the structure of your mouth to shift octaves (google the word "Embouchure"), it does not seem to work for me in Bansuri.

    Best Sir mai aapke bajane se sikha

  • @rskhanna786
    @rskhanna786  13 років тому

    @srinivasan1109 2 D should mean the D (Re of the Indian system) of the second octave on a keyboard. So your Sa should sound like the Re on a harmonium. I believe that is how it is done. One of the flute-makers I spoke with a while ago said it was a lot more complicated than that, but could not explain to me how. Anyone who knows better, please share with us.

    I am not a singer so I could not tell you what effect bansuri could have on your singing. I was a heavy smoker when I first started playing bansuri in college. After quitting smoking, breath control became a lot easier, but I do not remember having any issues if I started playing bansuri right after smoking.
