My Ultimate Flight - Flying the Supersonic Concorde

- I flew on the supersonic Concorde in 2003 from New York to London in just over 3 hours at twice the speed of sound. This video shares with you the ultimate flight of my life; on-board the supersonic Concorde.
Watch with a detail explanation of the Concorde cockpit's unique features plus a ride in the Concorde simulator. Several Concorde Pilots and cabin crew members spoke about their feelings about the Concorde.
Special thanks to Brooklands Museum in Surrey England for the permission to film. They open year-round for visitors to enjoy the Concorde experience: www.brooklandsmuseum.com/

In this video, we pay homage to and celebrate the extraordinary service life of the supersonic Concorde jet whose inaugural flight occurred 50 years ago on 2nd March 1969. Re-live the extraordinary and exciting 50th anniversary celebrations held at the Brooklands Museum in Surrey, England, which houses the only Concorde simulator in the world, and see for yourself why this aeroplane will always be on another level compared to all others.
The Concorde jet was a miracle of engineering in many ways - a flight from London to New York could be completed in three and a half hours, allowing wealthy businessmen to, astonishingly, fly to New York for a meeting and return home the same day. The aeroplane’s top speed of just over twice the speed of sound - Mach 2.04 or 1,354 miles per hour - meant that time travel was no longer confined to the realms of science fiction; flights could take off in darkness in London in the evening and arrive in day-light in the early afternoon in New York the same day.
Even today the aeroplane looks extremely futuristic which is a testament to how far ahead of the curve Concorde was at the time. In this video, we take a look at the internal features of this aeroplane which made it unique, including its fighter jet like cockpit with analogue controls, smaller than average windows to protect against decompression and cooling and heat protection system to deliver the plane from the effects of friction with the air, magnified many times due to the plane’s supersonic speeds. We also see the famous drooping nose and accompanying visor of the Concorde jet, giving greatly enhanced landing and take-off visibility when down and supreme aerodynamic efficiency when raised.
The Concorde jet was developed jointly by Sud Aviation, now Aerospatiele and Airbus, and the British Aircraft Corporation, now BAE systems. Sadly, the production run of Concorde was much smaller than anticipated due to massive overruns in both time and budget - the original program cost of Concorde was estimated at £70 million but ended up being £1.3 billion. With so few planes, British Airways and Air France could never recoup the cost of the aeroplanes and so this was absorbed by the British and French governments respectively but their high ticket prices - a round-trip from London to New York typically cost $8,000 - still made Concorde highly profitable for the airlines, apparently ensuring that Concorde would race along the skies for the foreseeable future.
Unfortunately, the sonic boom of Concorde, was not welcome in populated areas and so Concorde was restricted to flights over the ocean. The fatal event for Concorde, however, came in July 2000 when Air France Flight 4590 crashed after take-off, en route to New York, before even leaving France, killing everyone on board. Subsequent reductions in ticket sales meant that the decision to retire Concorde was taken in April 2003 and attempts by Sir Richard Branson’s Virgin Atlantic to purchase the British Airway’s Concorde fleet were not successful.
Sadly, fate cut short the service life of Concorde but she will always be remembered as the lightning bolt of the skies; able to go higher, faster and louder than any other commercial aeroplane. Her legacy survives in the likes of the Boeing 777, which make use of the electronic fly-by-wire acceleration systems that were first introduced in Concorde.
For more details of my Concorde flight (sonic boom explanation, details of the speed and technicalities, please see my detail trip report here

Jet fighters can’t catch up with these planes. God forbids another terror attack no F35 will catch up with it. So I don’t mind if they won’t bring concord back
Thank you so much for sharing this.. its important more than you realise. Bless you.
I think you'll find Concorde didn't stretch 10 feet. 18 inches overall maybe but not 10 feet.
Sam,you should come to India and try out the Vistara retro flight.
i was fortunate enough took a concord to France in 2001. only issue was i arrived too early in Paris and hotel was not ready. lol. Good old days
Louis Y what an experience!!
Thinking about this comment and u realize how absurd it is. The issue wasn't crossing the freakin' pond in 3 hours, but arriving too quickly and the hotel not being ready. 1st world problems indeed. 😄😄😄😄😄😄
Secret Seeing damn really dude. flat earth? even the kids from india with a backyard balloon know this is not true.
@@adhynugroho9424 Actually, that's an issue on almost every NY to London/Paris flight even now. Most of those flights are "red eye" overnight flights that leave NY at night and arrive in London/Paris early the next day. The idea is that one goes directly to the office after sleeping on the flight, not to the hotel.

A crying shame the life of this beautiful aircraft was cut short. Hearing the roar of the engines when it took off, wow just wow. Thank you for posting this.
Aye. Maybe when the boffs come up with some superstrong nanotube maniulation or a green and cheap reliable renewable fuel we might see these birds take wing once again.
I think the roar of the engine is one of the reasons why the Concorde failed.
A victim of NIMBY, because no one want to have a sonic boom blasting across the US. Which is also why the US supersonic airliners failed.
If we did not have that problem, the Lockheed L-2000 and Boeing 2707 (variable sweep wing version) would have given the Corncorde competition on the world's sexiest supersonic airliner.
ua-cam.com/video/EQQ6pA0O0Ss/v-deo.html
@@macrossMX Let's be honest
The loud Olympic engine's roar wasn't the only issue.
It also wasn't very financially viable due to the limited number of seats and extremely high running cost. Tickets for the concorde were outrageously expensive as a result.
Though CONCORDE has stopped flying , it remains a MASTERPIECE of Engineering!!!
I totally agree
@A_B_sHrekNiCLsN Whats that have to do with the Concorde...?
@A_B_sHrekNiCLsN This is the dumbest thing I've read, also confirmation that your yammering has nothing to do with the original post about the Concorde's engineering.
@A_B_sHrekNiCLsN Lol and now you are triggered. I'm sorry you feel that way chump.
@A_B_sHrekNiCLsN On average there are 9,728 jets flying at any time. You have rare and common mixed up. Probably a Russian troll.
I'm lucky enough to say I've flown on the Concorde too. My father would work as a courier delivery driver and pick up packages from Heathrow to drop off. Always would talk about Concorde and he loved everything about it. We wasn't rich, quite the opposite.. My mother and father have had so many jobs working hard as they can for my brother and I. The couriering work dried up and he would then take us on trips to watch Concorde take off or land. He would always know the times. He found a new job very soon after searching hard and he heard about a chance to win tickets, he never said a thing to me and my brother. (Brother was 13 and I was 9). Until the day we thought we had school, but instead we had our bags packed and a car journey to Heathrow (which was only about 7 miles away, still 30 mins ish due to traffic) and then we went through the special British airways departure lounge and they took our bags off us and looked and treated us like royalty. My father and mum sat next to a king and his bodyguards whilst I sat next to my brother and a Saudi Prince very young same age as I was roughly. I don't remember much except him giving me a coca cola can which read Arabic writing and a silver foiled chocolate crocodile which was shaped rather amazingly accurate lol.
Well I hope you enjoyed this (to whoever reads it). It wad the best experience and seeing the curvature of the earth was something I'll never forget. I love my family!

You can't hear the sonic boom from inside a supersonic plane for the simple reason that when you go supersonic, you're *outrunning* the sound of that sonic boom. It can never catch up to you.

@@D35tr0you'd have to slow down quickly, before the shockwaves dissipates, and slow enough so it has a chance to catch up. I flew on it six times. It was sheer joy. You were pushed back in your seat on takeoff from the acceleration. The other thing I remember was how they cleared the runways to give it priority, and how you got your luggage immediately upon arrival and then they had a limo to take you to where you were going (I only flew the NY-Paris route). I flew BA Concorde as well from JFK to LHR back in 1995. I departed New York around noon and landed in London early evening. It was so strange seeing the curvature of the Earth from up so high. And watching the sun set so rapidly was weird. The service and food were impeccable. I was lucky to visit the cockpit mid-way across the Atlantic. It was an amazing experience. My flight only cost me $1,000 (Australian dollars). I got a really great deal. You described the whole experience perfectly. How lucky we were to experience such a magnificent and majestic aircraft in flight. It's something I will never forget!
My grandfather was actually one of the engineers who worked on Concorde. I witnessed my grandparents fly on Concorde back in the early 2000's, prior to it being decomissioned. I wish one day, Concorde 2.0 will be a thing so we can all experience it.

Today - June 3, 2021 - United Airlines announced that they ordered 15 new supersonic jets to be built by American start-up Boom Supersonic, to be completed by the year 2029, pending U.S. government approval. The model is the "Overture", and is expected to be the Concorde's direct successor. Testing will begin in 2025-2026.
How come they'll approve this, I know, simply because it's American. So butthurt
Call me petty but I find the name ‘Boom’ is pretty dumb for an aircraft. It doesn’t have that majestic feeling and pizzazz of an industry changing aircraft.
Boom kinda seems on the nose. A better name would be Peregrine, because they're the fastest birds.

I never got to fly in a Concorde but have an interesting story to go with it.
I was a corporate pilot back in the 80’s flying a Corporate BAC 1-11 and we would fly from LAX to JFK and drop the boss off at the BA terminal. He would then board the Concorde and fly to London. We would then get the plane ready for a flight the next day and fly to London, sometimes empty, so He could use the plane while there. This happened only a few times.
I was privileged to have had a private tour of the Concorde while it sat at the terminal.
Like the Concorde, I too am retired.
Thanks for sharing this story with us. Happy retirement!

This aircraft was an icon in my childhood (even though I never got to see one fly unfortunately) , I loved planes all throughout my childhood and even 10 years on from its retirement everyone know what is it and just how Iconic it will always be - even non-aviation enthusiasts. I still have a mode Concorde on my shelf and it will never leave. My love for planes and modes of transport in general is largely thanks to the Concorde. It was truly, and quite literally, ahead of its time! Thank you Concorde, forever.
I'm three years late to the party, but this video gave me goosebumps. 🥰When I was a small child, I witnessed the Concorde land at Heathrow and once saw it takeoff at Humberside Airport when the runway was extended (it was a whole family outing), and the noise, smell and heat were unbelievable. I was totally heartbroken when they took these planes out of service as it was my dream to fly in one. 😊
Sam, Got to give it to you, you did a fantastic job recapturing the feelings and memories on the Concorde. Way to go.
You'd think 50 years later, super sonic passenger travel would have been standard for everyone.
It uses a lot of fuel. When they retired it, a ticket on one of those was around $5000 one way. I'd like them to bring it back as well but it's not something the general public are willing to pay for, which is largely the reason they no longer fly. There's not enough of a market to justify keeping them in service
Got to take into account the constant sonic booms
It became unprofitable when the oil price increased.
Yes, this BOOM company is trying to bring supersonic commercial flight back into the game, and it’s definitely not cheap to research, design, and develop a plane that has that capability and it’s also profitable, the thing is that the Concorde was not the plane that could take us there, actually AirFrance claims that they ran the Concorde on red numbers for some time but kept it due to a national pride thing I guess. The Concorde swallowed fuel as crazy, was small which increased the amount of fuel per passenger used, didn’t have the best design for commercial use either, as the fuel tanks where directly behind the tires, the Concorde actually had several incidents due to tire bursting debris damaging fuel tanks and engines it was just a matter of time for what happened to happen.
Mr Nightmare23
Not much of a problem actually, not that it was impractical. Frankly everybody would love to hear them if they aren’t much louder than the jets themselves. And frankly it would be kinda cool to have longer gaps between aircraft drones.

The reason why you don't hear the Sonic Boom inside the aircraft is because you are travelling at the speed of sound and going past it. Henceforth, you are within the cone of the sonic boom, you need to be behind the aircraft to hear it.
More correctly, to hear the boom you have to have the cone of the shock front pass you. Both you in the supersonic aircraft and the shock front cone(s) generated by your aircraft are travelling at the same speed. However, parts of the cone(s) may impinge on the aircraft itself, which is most important in the intakes to the engines; by varying the geometry of the inlets, the shock front is used to compress the air and slow it down, increasing the power of the engines. Of course, you don't hear a boom in the aircraft; instead parts of it experience strong pressure effects. This was the "compressibility" phenomenon encountered by diving WWII fighters approaching the speed of sound ... the air becomes supersonic above the wing before the aircraft as a whole exceeds the speed of sound. And the shock front generated by the leading edge of the horizontal stabiliser makes conventional trailing edge elevators useless at transonic speed... a flying stab is needed. This was a crucial breakthrough which was conveyed by the British to the US and allowed the Bell X-1 to break the sound barrier; it was promptly incorporated into the design of the F-86 Sabre and all subsequent transonic or supersonic aircraft.
The Shuttle had two tremendous booms ; I was once in the basement of a very solid old building in Pasadena, CA, as the shuttle descended to Edwards AFB; the whole building shook. I believe that the Falcon 9 first stage generates a triple boom before landing. Blunt bodies like that generate powerful shock fronts when passing through the atmosphere at supersonic speeds.
You're out running the sound wave that is the boom. The ships hear it cause their not going faster than sound
I just saw one of the Concordes at Heathrow; such a magnificent plane! My mom had the opportunity to fly on the Concorde back in the day and she always tells me about how Paul McCartney was seated in front of her. @@masonmtb7 Well, dude, in the 70s NASA said that from the shore of the beach you could see the curvature of the earth, but later in the 80s they said that you could see it from a high hill, in the 90s they said that you could only see it From the highest mountains, in the 2000s they said that only from an airplane at 10,000 meters you could see the curvature, but from 2015 onwards they said that the curvature could ONLY BE SEEN FROM 130 KILOMETERS OF HEIGHT, tell me what happens to the NASA, what decade by decade increases the height of the curvature of the Earth?
it is simple, THE NEW INSTRUMENTS TO WHICH PEOPLE HAVE ACCESS, HIGH POWER PHOTOGRAPHIC CAMERAS IN THEIR LENSES, VERY POWERFUL TELESCOPES AT VERY LOW PRICE ETC, NASA was forced to RAISE THE APPRECIATION HEIGHT OF THE CURVE because THE CURVE DOES NOT EXIST, it is that simple, because if NASA kept what it said regarding the appreciation of the curve then EVERYONE WOULD REALIZE THAT NASA LIES because they would have THEIR OWN VISUAL AND GRAPHIC TESTIMONIALS TO PROVE IT
So what better way to put the height of the appreciation of the earth's curve OUT OF YOUR REACH? DO YOU HAVE A WAY TO CLIMB TO THE 130 KILOMETERS OF HEIGHT TO CHECK THE EARTH CURVE? NO, unless you manage to climb to that height
so DON'T HURRY TOO MUCH TO "BELIEVE" WHAT NASA TELLS YOU because science DOES NOT NEED YOUR BELIEF because SCIENCE CANNOT BE RELIGION
and NASA LIES
1975 were flying at Mach 2!
2019 were flying at 500 mph!
Oh wait back then we went Mach 2 really good progress if you ask me
Concord, though cool was expensive and the sonic booms made huge inconveniences to the people nearby...
We fly so slow today because it's way more efficient. Essentially hyper-miling a passenger jet.
2050: Flying at 300
Blame Boeing for crying cuz their engineers were too demanding and heavy unions that kept their design from comming to reality. I doubt we would go superso ic considering that Bpeing wont let go of their unions.
because it's much more economical & safe to fly at 500 than mach 2. general public can not afford many such mach 2 flights, but they can afford 500mph flights when they need.
You are very lucky to have flown on her! I lived in London whilst Concorde was still flying, and often heard the "boom" when I was out in the garden. Happy days!
Thank you for sharing your Concorde story with us, Sam!
I've watched many of your videos Sam, but this is by far my favourite. You are one lucky man to have flown aboard this beautiful bird . I almost felt emotional when the nose was dipped at the end , that aircraft shouldn't be on the ground in a museum , she deserves to be up there at 58,000 feet ! Thank you for an amazing feature.
Read your comment before watching the video and thought...pffft! Watched it and now I'm speechless. Best vid by Sam in my opinion. 👍👍👍👍
What else do you need , a perfectly engineered plane and a brilliantly documented video !
What amazing aircraft, i remember when i was living Near Shannon Airport Ireland in the 80s, the Concorde used to fly over my house & used to shake the house, it was so loud & so cool to get to see often
You're really Lucky. What an Awesome memory to have. Thank you for Sharing ! !
concorde does get landing priority, it's extremely inefficient to have it just circling over the runway so it actually gets priority to land.
I has to fly much faster while landing too. So it did not fit in the regular landing queu.
*Did 😢
0:12 Did you see that the way the plane was looking at the screen
It also has takeoff priority due to taxi fuel burn and departure punctuality. :)
@@energybengt Not true. Punctuality and fuel burn were not the concern of ATC. They were given an airborne slot time and planned the taxi from their gate to keep ground time to a minimum.
Meanwhile 20 years later we have Boeing planes that nosedive themselves into the ground.

Yeah its sad
Ik its wrong but bruh 💀💀
*rip 737 max MCAS
All because installing extra redundancy sensors for the MCAS would have required extra training for the pilots and they wanted to save money. No expense was saved for the Concorde.
LMAOO
ive been at brooklands museum as a school trip once and i saw the concorde it was lovely
I live really close to brooklands and ive been in the Concorde there twice and it truly is magical. Definitely worth going there!
To think Concorded did what it did 50 years ago makes me think how much more improved a new supersonic plane could be, I imagine it could hold way more passengers, be much more efficient as well with all the technology there is now
And much safer! If we continued to pursue this technology instead of largely abandon it
There's no way around the fact that drag increases exponentially as airspeed increases. That is true even for the most aerodynamic and ideal shape possible.
They can't beat the Concorde these days even with the help of computers.
@@dennisdbc2386 yeah because tech doesnt get better
sure they can - there's just unfortunately no market for it so it's not worth the money - especially with the advent of the internet bigshot ceo business types no longer need to travel quickly between continents to attend meetings - and so a big demographic keeping the concorde afloat dried up@@dennisdbc2386
One accident and they grounded Concorde. Man ,this had to be so maddening for those that flew her. I use to catch her flying out of Dulles Airport in Virginia, such beautiful lines.
It was not the plane itself, it was a DC-10!
Hehe Where's Douglas???? merged with Boeing???? but they neesd 2 pay for their plane's fail
No it was for to expensive to maintain not the crash
@@rubinahuss2527 The crash also helped the Concorde to retire much faster as it put a bad reputation on it. /(;^;)\
Not the reason.
i lived just next to brooklands, went there regularly so seeing that concorde is so nostalgic
Hi Sam, you really brought the beauty of Concorde and the excitement of flying on it home to me. I have lived your vid. Thank you.
Too bad, we probably will never be able to fly supersonic again.. back then it was an era for technological advancement, today is the era for profit.
Flying supersonic is ecologically unsustainable for now, that's why we should not fly supersonic with passenger aircraft. In the remote future, we might fly supersonic again, but then in a sustainable and most likely also profitable manner. The Concorde stands symbolically for the wastefulness of the post-war area and will seem as crazy as steam engines to future generations.
Si_Vis_Pacem Para_Bellum my company lost most of the executives on 9/11 who flew NY to London on Concorde. We had executives on Concorde nearly every working day and on Sunday afternoons. Those days are long gone.
Thats where stoopid gets stoopider. Because "they" dont realise that you can only cut so many corners and milk somthing before you stop making profit. People will pay and will pay more for value and qaulity. Scams will only put food on the table for so long.
What about tomorrow?... things change. Never is forever no. And NOTHING is forever.
You have nailed it!!!!!
Concorde always had priority. I worked at Heathrow airport when Concorde was operating and no matter where you were you could hear Concorde take off.
You can't hear the sonic boom on Concorde because you are flying faster than it.
Hi
Vulcan is my favourite
Not quite right. You can't hear the sonic boom because you are flying *with* it. When a plane travels faster than sound, a shock wave in the shape of a cone develops around the nose of the plane. A sonic boom occurs when this shockwave passes over an observer on the ground. But if you are in the plane, you are travelling at the speed of the shockwave, so it can never pass over you.
I been there this is Brooklands Museum in the uk. I am never get bored of this place. I love airplanes it was very fun places to visit.
Ahhh. She was an awesome masterpiece. Just seeing her taking off was already a pleasure. Hope one day I can see one of these masterpiece.
I flew Concorde in January 1997 from London to New York. I remember leaving London at 7 pm and landing at JFK at 5:50 pm. As we flew, I looked out my window and while we had left Heathrow in the dark, as we approached NY, I could see sunlight in the distand and we landed at dusk, having won back some sunlight. It was unforgettable.
jealva how many hours
Very professionally organised and edited and photographed. The sound is great too. Enjoyed this!
Glad to see this video! I lived in Caracas between 1977 and 1979 and in one opportunity my dad took me to see the concorde landing at the Simon Bolivar airport in Maiquetia. It was a regular flight from Paris with Air France. Amazing airplane and very elegant! Thanks Sam for this awesome video.
I never saw the Concorde in action but I did see her in the museum. It still is my favorite aircraft today. It brings tears to my eyes that she sits on a float.
What a Beautiful Aircraft..... Certainly one piece of Aviation history that will never be forgotten..... Truly Amazing.
Don't worry comrades, we're currently making our own concorde that will be a part of the Air Koryo fleet soon
Supreme leader offer me privilege to fly in your flight..
lmao I see you everywhere
Kim, get offline, you're taking away your fellow countrymen and womens' last remaining electricity 😄.

Can't you just borrow the TU-144 from russia?
I flew on the Concorde in August 1990, a gift from my wife for my 40th birthday. I still have my luggage tags from that day but I can't recall what I did with my boarding pass. We sat in the first row of seats in the aft cabin to the left of the bulkhead. A flight attendant chuckled that even though the seats were all the same, many passengers insisted they sit in the front cabin which was somehow more prestigious. This was a treat for us because just in front of us was a display indicating speed, altitude and Mach number. I recall a speed of 1320 mph at 59,000 feet toward the end of the flight . The altitude rose with the weight reduction due to the fuel burn.
My overall impression was of the small size of the interior of the aircraft. When I put my hand on the window I was able to span it between my thumb and my 5th finger. When I got up to use the 'loo the flight attendant had to help me open the folding door. She explained that heating of the aircraft skin and the extremely low pressure at altitude caused very slight warping of the hull making the door "sticky". I'm not certain about this but it makes for a good story. I did make my way up towards the flight deck and my wife got a nice photo of me and the flight engineer who had a beautiful handlebar moustache.
The food was fabulous and I specifically recall an excellent Dom Perignon champagne, a superior Chateau Talbot and a wonderful Chambertin (Can you tell I love wine almost as much as flying?). The main course was a chateaubriand.
To top it off, the next day we went to the Farnborough air show where we saw the AN-225 (sadly destroyed this past winter by the Russians in the invasion of Ukraine) and aerobatic displays by SU 27s and later Mig 29s. I saw one of the SU 27s do cobra manoeuvre. First one I had ever seen! I was sure that the next thing we would see was the pilot ejecting. Unbelievable!
Much to my surprise, I discovered a movie of the 1990 Farnborough Airshow on UA-cam. Part of it showed the first day with the AN-225 taxiing past a very large crowd. I must have been there but even though I have looked very carefully I did not see myself.
The experience of a lifetime. Conrats and thank you for the excellent review
Well done Sam I also flew the Concord and tried the simulator itwas very exciting I was 29 years old in 1975 unfortunately I cannot fly anymore as I am well into my pension years, so go for it while you sn Sam and enjoy every moment of it. Thank you for your very interesting beautiful videos. Thank you so much Annie
It is very disappointing that we can't fly on concorde today😪

It's very good concode aren't flying. Otherwise we were living in much more problems.
Travelled twice aboard BA001 LHR-JFK. Both flights were memorable, with excellent service, wines and memorable meals. Sitting next to Sir Morris Micklewhite [but you may call me Michael Caine] on the second flight was the most memorable experience of my life. He entertained me with some fascinating stories about his storied career.
Thanks for the fantastic concorde tour Sam.
I remember seeing the concord flying over the National Mall in Washington DC from Dulles on July 4th 1976, America's Bicentennial. You've had the privilege to have flown on the Concorde, and I admire you for that. The Concorde was and still is a great aircraft. Thanks for sharing.
Beautiful bird. I love how it took a bow after the countdown. What a great tribute video. Great work, man.
I flew from CDG to JFK in 1982. Great memories. Thanks!
Thankyou Sam for this wonderful video about the Concorde. Glad to know it's on display at the Brooklands Museum.
I was a aircraft mechanic work on boeing and airbus jet.now i become a helicopter pilot.i like your video very much.happy to see those old pictures.thanks for share with us

A gold standard, truly!!!! Thank you for sharing!
Charles Kennedy's take is impressive.
I used to live near Heathrow right on the flight path. You could hear her about 40 seconds out. Looking back, she commanded respect in every way.
Thanks for these videos.
The reason you can’t hear the sonic boom in the plane is because the aircraft is traveling faster than the sound of the boom.
That is not the reason. The plane is still within the Mach cone when cruising, you can only hear a sonic boom if you are outside of the Mach cone.
mrcannotfindaname Ok thank you for the info.
I dont think thats the reason.
Matt Yamamoto Then please tell us what it is
The jet escapes from the sonic boom it has created.
Supersonic planes will make a return someday.
@Roborav Megasonic!!!!
@Roborav hypersonic is way too expensive and technologies aren't ready for global use. Supersonic is the future. Hypersonic will only replace current 12h+ flights.
@Roborav I didn't say the technologies aren't there. They are very expensive and building them to not sell or only servicing a few rich people is just pointless from a manufacturer's view.
@Roborav Companies won't buy hypersonic planes if there is too few demand or if the operation costs are too high (making prices high, reducing demand as of the time). These planes will remain very exclusive until supersonic travel reaches its limit (currently happening with jet planes).
Then everyone will rush on it, like supersonic right now.
@Roborav I'm not negative at all. It's because of you stupid drunk childish that we are wasting billions into unreallistic projects that bankrupt companies and make this amazing thing to fail. Better developing and improving the technologies first to get more planes of the type flying at the same time, securing the sector by reducing the costs thanks to the number. Hypersonic planes still a fancy thing on paper and won't come before the 2040s. Supersonic will come first and will have the main part of the market. As i said, only current very long flights will be replaced by hypersonic. I'm not complaining, i'm realistic. It's just unavoidable that developing supersonic first is much better as will create demand for hypersonic and serve as tests for future hypersonic planes. You want a plane just for the symbol, don't you?
That was great, thank you. I can't believe that next year will mark its 20th year of retirement. I've sat on the Concorde in the USS INTREPID Museum in NYC,but thanks.to your video I'm going to plan a trip to Brooklands and get on board the simulator. 😉👍
Flew new york to london on may 11th 2003. Excellent experience and great memories. Time was 3hr 16 mins . Even found a picture taken on that day of g-boag landing at heathrow... excellent to think we were sat in 4a and b
I'm French, too young to fly with the Concorde, hope we'll be able to make supersonic flights again soon ! Fantastic machine! 😉
The Concorde was definetly majestic and her afterburners were even hoter then Merlin Monroe.
But here the proud ends.
Due to the high speeds the fusalage streches up to about 1ft during supersonic flights.
That drasticaly reduced the lifespan of the plane.
And the speed also caused high fuelconsumption that was three times higher then that of the Boeing747-100.
The afterburners of the turbojetengines created huge noise pollution.
The high flightaltitude and the the fuelconsumption also could cause poor damage on the ozone layer.
And the supersonic-boom limited Cocordes serviceability to routes above the ocean.
The Concorde was "desinged" to lose.
@Andy O'tam
No.The problems I metioned were had caused her to end.
And Jets execute supersonic flights for only a few minutes compared to the Concorde that flew for three hours. So on an avarage route above the land it would cross to many cities and cause too much damage.
A jet crosses much less cities and du to their flexability they could fly around high populated areas.
Concorde couldn't.
And I'm sure that even jets get complains from citizens.
Le petrole est trop cher aujourd hui. Et les sieges n etaient pas comfortables compares à ceux des avions recents. Pour 5000 euros de nos jours tu as un lit
