The switch from the XP system to the RP system was the biggest anti-consumer move they ever made. You went from unlocking multiple planes per nation rank 1-20 to grinding out single plane at a time.
when that happened I stopped playing for years. was so close to the F-86 and just gave up. took me years to get it. now korean jets are useless and the economy is garbage

The Thunder Show narrator and Basement Guy together would be able to run the company on their own. The narrator has definitely had a few slip-ups, but I don't think he actually writes the entirety of the script, at least not the Q & A section.
Don't forget you could regularly get GE wagers from logins or random crate after battles, but after the launch of the first ever Battlepass, they saw many players grinding free GE from the wagers so they removed and nvr brought them back in any shape or form. Its a shame nobody is talking about free GE Wagers.
That whole debacle of Gaijin placing a debt on players accounts because of their own mistake was an absolute disgraceful move. You would honestly just take the hit and garner at least some kind of good faith in your player base. I've honestly never known of a group of people so greedy and anti-consumer as Gaijin. They are genuinely horrible.
That was totally a ransomware like scam on their part and they did not only placed them on debt, they removed the rewards from the link together with the premium time that people bought with their money, thats outright theft.

War thunder is basically a gacha game, it's astounding to me its taken so long for people to catch on to it. The whole game is a scam to separate your money from you.
Lets remember the is6 have a HIDDEN 100mm extra armour plate in the manlet that a skin maker found and gaijin said it was an "accident" meanwhile it was the BEST premium tank and still has been the best selling one

10+yo Veteran here.... I simply don't trust them. That's it. They've always had anti-consumer ideas and other stuff .... a lot of it wasn't added and some did.(I didn't include the blatant 60/70 dollar cash grabs and the fact they'll gladly nerf the shit out of your 70 dollar plane anytime they want.)
Thank you for saying it, i have been complaining about that for ages. After they are done with the vehicles they dont perfrom at all like they did wen you buy them but gaijin gets to keep your money, thats so shady.
Been playing since 2013 myself. The change in the game from then almost immeasurable. For me personally, i used to spend more on the game then than i do now. I do not trust them anymore and will not buy a premium vehicle or account ever again. It is as if Gaijin are sick of it all and are actively trying to kill it. It's becoming less and less fun to play.
Been playing since 2015. I honeslty had to completely stop playing, I do enjoy the vehicles they have added, but war thunder no longer feels like the game I played as a teenager. The ever changing meta has made it very difficult to keep of with the e game as I no longer have the time to play it in a way that isn't extremely casual and the economy changes over the past 5 or so years have made it practically impossible to play some of the vehicles (many of which I never believed would be in the game) without dropping hundreds of dollars, which is quite a rediculous notion at this point. For me one of the biggest straws was the addition of top tier premiums (especially jet premiums wish was something they had promised not do) as it essentially made top tier dogshit. anyways I hope you still enjoy the game :)
Dumbest excuse they've ever come up with. It's one thing to give everything right away and the player spends on skins and to voluntarily support the game because he likes it, it's another thing to make it a grinding nightmare where once you understand that if I don't spend I don't see the real game, it means it's not a game but a job. They said it's f2p, so why do I basically see a demo or a single boring part of the game? Tier 1 are slow and not very useful, it is impossible to destroy bases with planes, only those who get kills are rewarded while playing as a team and defending allies gets little or nothing. I spent more on league of legend for skins and never for the champions (who even let you try them for free) because I like the way I play and it's honest and in other games where I had everything right away rather than on war thunder, here I got it done borrowed the account from a friend to try tier 8 and had fun. Knowing that I would NEVER play that tier unless in a year or more made me stop at tier 2 and let it go. They made the game a work and a cult.
@@StrayGuard I don't see the point in comparing the player's level to the vehicle. In tier 1 there are level 100 players and they will win against level 1 players anyway. The player's experience only depends on how much he commits and wants to learn, the level is useless and is a very labile topic.

I love how they excused the econemy changes in their news post (one of the reasons) by not wanting to create ''grinder vehicles'', while they literally have a dozen of these as premiums that pretty much ruin their respective brs and/or didnt balance them properly since they make them a ton of money (ju288,wyvern,su11 and so on) Its the hypocrisy and contradictionary filled statements and actions of gaijin that are the reason why the player base legit doesnt trust the own developer and only expect negatives Honestly when was the last time they actually implemented meaningfull gameplay or quality of life changes? Bombers are mostly useless/ the game has progressed to new technolegy incredibly fast and air rb is functionally the same it was 10 years ago, and dont get me started on ground rb map designs and the way they artificaly nerfed tank traction so people wouldnt get to overpowerd spots on their poorly designed maps

Before I quit I would literally play 2 hours of grinder premium tanks at T3/T4 to make the silver lions I needed to play an hour of T5 because 1 bad game had me spending 20k or more on repair costs. So there I went a fairly competant player with 3 maxed out crews going seal clubbing hopping into my premium tanks and slaughtering newbie players for hours every day, racking up 10-12 kills per game just so I could afford to play a match in a higher tier without running out of SL. After doing that for a few months I had an epiphany, fuck this game, why do I play hours on end just so I can play how I like? The answer, I shouldn't and no one should. Fuck the game fuck the devs, and I am happy they are finally getting taken to task.
Also forgot to mention Gaijin continuing to take vehicles out of folders to artificially lengthen grinds (Not sure why no one is talking about this) and the Russian dev stream guy calling players poor peasants who should shut the fuck up if they don't have money
I actually measured just how long the grind is, if you play for 6 hours a day everyday, you can grind every vehicle in about 35.5 years. I cannot reasonably think of any logical reason other than greed to have the grind any longer than it already is. Even if you spend money for the fastest grinding time you're looking at 3.4 years and about $23,000

Something ground forces players have wanted for a very long time is groundforce only mode, for those of use who don't want CAS spam. Frighteningly professional research and by far the best summary of current events surrounding War Thunder. It's a shame that, with few exceptions, the "elite content creators" don't have a similarly rational approach.
That's wrong though. Almost every war thunder youtuber I know of made a video calling gaijin out on their bullshit. Even if they did it because it was the trend, I don't think they didn't care.

And after that they went back to their regular War Thunder uploads and seemed to have forgotten about the issues. It's also worth pointing out that most of them don't have to grind for a single vehicle as they can just request gold, silver, premum/event tanks. Some content creators for War Thunder have absolutely no idea how it actually feels to play without all those benefits, so they have an altered view on the game that doesn't match up to the rest of the community. For example a lot of the content creators plays all their vehicles completely spaded and crews aced, which is something the vast majority of the playerbase don't do. So of course they will have a better time in the game compared to everyone else, since they are at an advantage. It's not all about skill, when they have crew that repairs a tank faster or reloads the gun faster then everyone else. In some regards content creators show the game in a different light, compared to how the game actually plays, which feels dishonest. Especially since content creators are the biggest influencer for the continuation of the inflow of new players into the game.

"Kicking and screaming" is probably the most apt term I've heard for describing Gaijin's attitude towards anything that doesn't contribute towards lining their pockets. It genuinely feels like they're now physically incapable of making changes that would actually improve the grind for the player. Even the recent reversion was just that, only a reversion to the previous values, not an improvement that the community has been crying out for for years. The HEAT-FS/APFSDS situation shows just how vindictive theyre willing to be when it comes to the community's complaints, willing to make the player experience considerably worse and snarkily act like they've done exactly what was asked of them. The recent "please post your concerns to our forums instead of in steam reviews because reviews wont help new players but new players definitely have forum accounts premade before playing the game and we will definitely not moderate your posts to our liking" really pangs of the old Gaijin that threatened to abuse the youtube copyright system to stop people from exposing bugs in their game, leading to the mass WT boycott by a lot of content creators. I just hope that the required and sufficient shakeup in the Gaijin ranks occurs before they throw another world class tantrum and shoot themselves in the foot again. WT has the capacity to be an excellent game, even with its age old spaghetti code and bugs, it just needs someone who is more interested in playing the game to be at the reins rather than someone purely interested in monetising the latest edition of generic "USSR makes the best everything" tank game.
I abandoned WoT for a number of reasons, but way, way out front was premium ammunition. People should be allowed to pay to customize their vehicles, But no one should ever be allowed to pay for an advantage. It kicks off an arms race to see who can pay the most for the most advantage. Pay to win is a non starter. Full stop!
Also remember that rng was found to be directly tied to money spent(connected to amount of gold in account and frequency of replenishing the balance) by our clan "gorila" yyeeaarrss ago. That's why the clan left the game and other players went to "jedi"

At least on league of legend or Dota even if I start from 0 what matters is my skill and knowledge. On war thunder not only do I have to study the game with each vehicle but I also have to have an unnatural patience to research the modules (which I should have immediately since it is a pvp), train the crew because otherwise they are at a disadvantage against other players.. are we serious? in 2024 do I still have to train crew and research modules in a pvp? I believe that now new players don't go beyond level 15, as soon as they discover how unfair the grind system is they give up and move on to something else. It may be the best game that mixes realism and arcade, but if I don't enjoy it I'll get another game. I want to play, not work.
Yeah, I found the whole "timing" thing that they figure top tier tanks should be obtainable to be insulting. I have over 1200 hours in the game, over a year and a half playing, and I have YET to earn a top tier vehicle.

Personally one of the most upsetting changes I remember was when the battlepass came out and they decided to ruin the already perfectly fine warbond shop by linking it with the battle pass. It was perfectly simple and eloquent when all you had to do to earn warbonds was complete daily tasks and special tasks. With the new system its tied to the level in the battlepass AND the total collectable amount of warbonds got reduced AAAND the max rate at which you could earn warbonds got more than halved. Fucking pigs My premium time has currently run out and i for one wont be subscribing to more of it depending on the outcome of their economy roadmap.
I understand how you feel so much, before the battlepass with the warbond shop you could get one rank 3 vehicle every 2 weeks and it was soo easy now they locked it behind time restrictions, missions and challenges and you can get one like every battlepass
It’s not just greed, although that’s a bit part of it. It’s almost a passive aggressive revulsion at the people stupid enough to pay their bills. You ask for something? Ignore. Ask again and again until the noise becomes e roar? Gaijin will look at the request, then implement it in such a way that the players always lose - ‘think you can tell us what to do? Have a look at these apples!’ I call it the Monkey-Paw Curse approach after the story where touching an ancient shrivelled monkey paw in a wooden box will give you whatever you ask for, but in some horrific way. For example - Ask the Monkey Paw to stop your wife from giving you a hard time about playing too many computer games - Wake up the next morning and she’s dead, with a knife in her back with your fingerprints all over it. Bet she won’t be giving you a hard time about computer games anymore - You won’t be playing CoD on death row!
@@APunishedManNamed2 really depends on the tree, and if you are talking air or ground. ground takes about 10x as long, if not more. When the draken was released I did the entire swedish air tree in a weekend, but it can take me well over a month for a single 10.0 ground vehicle

I have full ~7.3s tanks for both Soviet and German. So you're talking 428.5 hours to get to ~7.3 for each nation, which is a misnomer because Russian bias is real and my Russian KDR is 4.3.(IS-122 is 7.2 kills per death, lol) So we'll say 400 hours to get to a full 7.3 loadout. You're telling me 5.7 takes a few DAYS? You've never played WarThunder and are trolling us, or you're Gaijin dev, there is literally no other reason you'd obviously LIE this hard.
This makes me appreciate Warframe devs quite a bit. Like sure, sometimes they implement a new thing it's so grindy it's impossible to get but they learn from their mistakes and don't repeat it. they released 3 open world maps, one at a time and you could clearly see they weren't making the same mistakes again, even adding things like a pity system.
Warframe is light years ahead of warthunder, did you saw warframe battlepass? its just way better that the one in war thunder and in the last one they even had free rewards of warframe and weapon slots.

I love how they tried to tell us how economy is done in F2P games, as though warframe doesn't exist. warframe is the most successful f2P game ever for one simple reason, you are not forced to buy anything with real money, including the "paid" currency, platinum, which you can get entirely for free by trading with players, doing certain quests (though these are a one time thing), or hell, sometimes even twitch prime gives you platinum. everything you see in game in warframe can be obtained for free by just playing for a few hours. onto gaijin "listening", they said to leave feedback on the forums so they can listen to players more easily, great idea until you notice they're deleting any posts giving feedbacks, including posts from their own forum mods, and in some cases banning users entirely. and then we get to the supposed changes they promised. if you've seen the recent datamines for the last week on the dev server, they are doing the complete opposite of what they promised, and are increasing repair costs/RP costs/SL costs across the board. gaijin thinks the game shutting down would make us feel like assholes, when in reality we'd be more than happy to watch the game go offline for good, cause then gaijin has no good source of income. we have plenty of other games to play. while they have things like enlisted, star conflict and i think one other game, those games are not their games as they simply publish them. there is a reason enlisted has gotten more popular recently, it's actually fun and worth paying money on as everything costs half as much as war thunder. you wanna buy premium time? $40 for 180 days in war thunder, while you get a full year for the same $40 in enlisted
Also path of exile as well, you only pay for some convenience and cosmetics, and it's 100% possible to play endgame content without premium stash tabs if you are smart with what you keep, and if you're really desperate for storage you can always make a mule character in less than 5 minutes.
Gaijin already shows actions. Vehicles on dev server get "price decrease" of 7sl while Etendard 4 (plane so rarely seen because of unfair balancing and repair costs) gets further repair cost increase of several thousands of sl.

It is really cool, the only thing i didnt like about the video is how short it is, we could be hours talking about the terrible and immoral things they have done.
Tremendous effort on this historic documentary on the history of Gaijin fucking over the players. Really am happy I forced myself to give this game up a few months back. I never played without premium time and sunk over 4000 hours with basically every premium German vehicle and I still don’t have a single tech tree complete. I really could not tolerate it regardless of how much fun it was to just learn about all the vehicles in the game.
I quit in 2019 had well over 400$ invested it just wasn't fun anymore it became a time pit and they really didn't care if you put money into the game there is also a huge disadvantage to console players when it comes to controls and they havnt even tried to address it I won't be coming back until there is massive changes made
So to summarise with your review. Gaijin acts naughty... Don't listen to requests from audience. Only immediately acts upon said requests, when it turns to criticism and backlash. Then immediately go back to their antics when left alone Sounds a lot like a toddler🤷🏾♂️
You can be sure that even if they do some economy changes they are going to find another way to screw us over like they have done many times before thats why we have to stay alert.
I actually like the idea of pre-battle training in a different way. A consumable just like it was going to be, but you get it just the same as a booster, and instead of the weird things they were gonna do for improvements, just give the vehicle the same stats as if it had an expert crew for the battle
Ex War Thunder player here. Thankfuly I quit a bit before the first heatseeking missiles were added. I used to play this game back when realistc battles were called historical battles. The only advice I can give for you guys is to just go play DCS or IL2 great comunities and the games are a lot more engaging and the fights are meaningfull. Trust me guys its what you are looking for, you just don't know it yet.
Yeah they even made it to be only noticeable on spaded vehicles so people would take a lot longer to notice. Its like people says, they always find a way to sneakily screw us over.
The things I think they need to fix as well are vehicles with incorrect modelling and cockpit placeholders. One example of incorrect modelling is the abrams line up. The turrets are asymmetric.
I've been playing WT long enough to remember... well, it was the first economy nerf that I personally know of (though I'm sure there were others prior)-the boosters themselves. Sure, at a glance, it looks like a side-grade from the old First Win Bonus system, but the fact that those bonuses only applied to a win made them inherently more effective because it was a little less likely that the booster would be wasted & more likely that it would be spent on a good game as well. On top of that, it was... pretty much better, net, than any booster (assuming you played all nations).
Interesting how literally no popular tank game gives a single fk about their community. Gaijin with War Thunder, Wargaming with World of Tanks, MyGames with Armored Warfare. It just makes me really sad.
i have been a player since Oct 2013 (last few years not so much) and i can tell you, 2018 wasn't the first time Gaijin heard an uproar from the players... The snail has become progressively more greedy each year, to the point many players simply leave/left.
No there are quite a lot of tanks that miss horsepower or armor, that arent updated to the correct values. They usually dont correct them because it fits the balance as they see fit or cant be bothered
The market items to speed up crafting event progress are a cynical attempt to reintroduce the market upgrades you were talking about. They spend too much time creating problems to sell you the solutions instead of making a good game. edit: also Gaijin lied in their comms. They said they never released the update after player feedback (they did, I played it), then they claimed they withdrew it after feedback but not the boycott.
In the dev server they decreased marginally some stock repair costs but the spaded repair costs were increased. Thats how they work, in one hand they show you solutions and they screw you over with the other.
On that same update they also removed the proximity bonuses, reduced scouting rewards and for air they nerfed earnings from up to 66%. It was the worst economy update.
It’s because of their fucked up economy system. A heavy tank in downtiers usually slaps but because vehicles don’t get 50:50 up and downtiers it makes some vehicles too effective according to Gaijin. So they usually slap on some insane repair cost on such vehicles.

I found Tankenstein to be geniune. He uploads content of the same quality levels as other big names like PhlyDaily. However he is down to earth and talks about the issues instead of avoiding them. There is a reason Gaijin isn't giving him an in-game decal while he's been very huge to War Thunder for many years
Havent played WT in more than 8 years now, but about the stock syndrome, ima say this - back in the day (maybe its the same currently) the JPZ 4-5 started out with darts when stock. Darts... in WT, APCR is a useless shell, even if in RL those were fairly rare and effective. No spalling; hardly able to pen anything angled (or, in 90%, not at all); losing penetration over distance rapidly; dealing little to no damage when it does pen. On the JPZ 4-5 - a vehicle that has no armor, while meeting stuff thats angled, with armor, and guns able to casually one shot it from kilometers away. Have fun with the grind!
What about that one time when they literally lied to the players about some free stuff and then locked the player's account for claiming it until they pay?

This is pretty typical incumbent corporate behavior. Normally you just don't have it visibly and immediately impact, unless you work for or are a supplier beholden to the bad decisions they make.
“They don’t mess with armor thickness” oh, but they do. The T-34 front hull plate. That drivers hatch can stop a 8.8cm shell from 100 meters in game. In real life that hatch couldn’t stop a 7.5 from a L46 at 300 meters…
I remember back in the day when gaijin said they will never ass premium jets to the game... Then they said they won't add premium jets with missiles... And it just went down hill
And then they started releasing jets like the german sea hawk, it was so broken back in the day, it was really easy to get 3-4 kill macthes. I think that that was the moment they realised that was profitable to increase the premium powercreep on each update.
It's good to see that they've realized just how much power the player base actually has, granted they are still doing everything in their power to make things as difficult as possible, but we have definitely shaken their resolve to do so with this past revolution. but we should also remind them of what could happen if they continue.
It's funny how they portrait war thunder as realistic while they can't even make a simple thing like ammo work properly. Mostly talking about HESH, APHE and APDS

War Thunder/ Gaijin needs one of two things: 1) The replacement of all members of the "Chief" positions 2) A competitor powerful enough to eat their lunch. If I hit the lottery I'll get started on one of those.
In this video I'd include their attempt to completely destroy the sound mods, when it was an issue for competitive battles but they decided to nuke it in all game modes. Fortunately the community united again against this ridiculous decision. Btw a great video.
This is justified because it gives the mod user an advantage, for example being able to hear engines better or from bigger distance, maybe some kind of a threshold for volume would solve things 🤷
Using mods in a videogame to gain an advantage is the equivalent of a baseball player using steroids and a corked bat to gain an advantage... It's cheating and it's wrong... Just my opinion, and ONLY my opinion though...
Also, lets not forget the incident where they put players in premium time debt over an error they made. All of this during a CHARITY event called Play4Peace.
That was a total ransomware like scam, they gave players a "gift" link and after people claimed it they said it was for new players and blocked their accounts until they paid but it dosent end there, they also removed all the premium time that they bought with their money. Thats blatant theft.

I stopped playing fucking years ago and I've never been happier. I think it's been 5 years now. Nothing has really changed huh, and it's not just their monitization that's been awful but their balancing. Remember when Air RB used to be popular? Then Gaijin released the Tu-4, the bomber spawn altitude changes AND the damage model changes which made every plane immune to anything than a German 30mm, all of these releasing in the same update and immediately killing Air RB and Gaijin did nothing about it for years? I remember. Remember the OLD rocket damage model which just insta deleted any tank at any angle at any distance and made teams that had the British or Americans fucking awful to play against? I remember. Do you remember the old Solid Shot damage modelling which made Britain an absolute nightmare to play for like 2 years until France came out? I remember.
If an artificial economy, one whose purpose is supposed to be to give players something to grow between milestones, is so player unfriendly, then it is doing its job wrong. I'm going to cheat.

4:38 I remember I played 100 GAMES WITH LEO 1 with STOCK AMMO but still didn't unlock it until that upgrade. If you ever playerd Leo 1, you would know how sht it's stock. It never penetrates, luckly if it penetrates, never do damage etc. Later I dropped tanks for that high silver costs. I was losing money each game. I went to german bombers and damn they were worse. I would lose money EVEN IF I GOT BEST SCORE AND A WIN IF I DOWNED ONCE. So at some point I was not able to play for a week until I have enough money. From those days, I dropped the game for like 4-5 years.
Its like when they made a huge pr stunt promoting that they were reducing rp needed for modifications at the saame time that they removoed proximity and reciving damage bonuses while also reducing the rp from scouting and killing ia wich made the grind a lot longer even with the reduced rp costs
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: if you are in ground battles and loose all but one crew member, you should be able to keep driving or whatever you want to do. I don’t care if this makes the reload time 20 seconds. Fight to the last man.
Last stand was a mechanic the game had a few years ago, but it was deleted because it was incredibly frustrating as a mechanic. I believe some 2 man vehicles might still have it, but thats it. Trust me when i say its a good thing that single crew member tanks is not something you want
The mechanic already existed on the game, it was so good but it was removed because a lot of people didnt liked it. They should bring it back at least for sim.
the .3 and .7 BR system worked great when there were fewer vehicles They need to put in a .5 BR between them at this point to try and keep the BR system relevant
You guys are forgetting you used to make rp and SL just for being near an enemy in air RB. Even if you sucked (me) you still got something. Now if i dogfight for 15 minutes but dont get a kill i get nothing. Also they removed rp and sl gain from bouncing shots.
THE BAD REVIEWS ARE FAIR REVIEWS Crazy no1 seem to care much about the fact that 100k warthunder review was basically shadow-banned because steam thinks it's review bombing. Review bombing is when a company makes a dogshit garbage game, and a joint effort review-bombs their other games. What War Thunder players did, was reviewing the game they've been playing the past years, showing their discontent, so how come steam and gaijin can delete hundreds, even thousands of hours played player's reviews with the excuse of "review bombing"?? They shouldn't be able to do that, and it shouldn't be sweeped under the rug either. MOST content creators seem to move on after making 1 video chasing the clout, but none of them talks about 100k reviews that's been deleted. Just check what would the reviews do with the game's review rating on steam and you get the answer as to why they conspired with steam.
War Thunder essentially just throws thing in your way until you pay it to go away for a bit. Unlike most f2p games War thunder actively punishes you for playing without premium things, be it prem time or vehicle (at least from my experience, players far better than me will probably disagree). I gotta achieve at least 3-4 kills a match so i can afford to be shot down with the planes i like (that is without prem time on non prem planes) now idk about you but in my usual match most of the players struggle to even get one kill each, let alone 4. I also rarely get the specified number of kills. This essentially feels like the game punishing me for playing the game, imo this also promotes behavior as kill-stealing, airfield camping and space climbing as they do seem to be somewhat promising to lower the chance of having to pay repair costs. Airfield camping and space climbing lower the chance of being killed, kill-stealing lowers the threat for you while getting you SL. In comparison most other f2p games like for example Warframe lean more towards trying to make you like the game enough to give yourself a treat with cosmetics and sure you can buy the special currency to buy high level equipment but unlike war thunder Warframe doesn't feel like it punishes you for not doing so, especially since you can also get the special currency via player trading.

2018? so the FPE cooldown has been in the game for 5 years now? man how time flies! For those wondering: while they did retract the the devblog for the modification consumables part of it was already coded into the game and they didn't bother removing it. Before the devblog you could use FPE (fire prevention equipment) in an instant. They then pre-patched in a cooldown to the FPE (there was a delay before you could use it again) ahead of the consumables update, but didn't bother removing it after the backlash caused the update to be retracted.
Are we not going to talk about the fact that boosters still expire? Also, they have already begun the process of implementing these horrible economic changes. Data mining is a pretty great thing to tell if someone is lying to you. Their response was not “Tone Deaf”. It’s actually called something insulting, blaming, gaslighting, lying, and being an overall asshole.
There is also the cap to earnings on sim and the bossters that stop working after an hour.

The switch from the XP system to the RP system was the biggest anti-consumer move they ever made. You went from unlocking multiple planes per nation rank 1-20 to grinding out single plane at a time.
The full scale of the bad economic changes has added up over time to such an extreme degree, most people have no idea

Don't forget you could regularly get GE wagers from logins or random crate after battles, but after the launch of the first ever Battlepass, they saw many players grinding free GE from the wagers so they removed and nvr brought them back in any shape or form. Its a shame nobody is talking about free GE Wagers.

Been playing since 2013 myself. The change in the game from then almost immeasurable. For me personally, i used to spend more on the game then than i do now. I do not trust them anymore and will not buy a premium vehicle or account ever again. It is as if Gaijin are sick of it all and are actively trying to kill it. It's becoming less and less fun to play.
Been playing since 2015. I honeslty had to completely stop playing, I do enjoy the vehicles they have added, but war thunder no longer feels like the game I played as a teenager. The ever changing meta has made it very difficult to keep of with the e game as I no longer have the time to play it in a way that isn't extremely casual and the economy changes over the past 5 or so years have made it practically impossible to play some of the vehicles (many of which I never believed would be in the game) without dropping hundreds of dollars, which is quite a rediculous notion at this point. For me one of the biggest straws was the addition of top tier premiums (especially jet premiums wish was something they had promised not do) as it essentially made top tier dogshit. anyways I hope you still enjoy the game :)

It's one thing to give everything right away and the player spends on skins and to voluntarily support the game because he likes it, it's another thing to make it a grinding nightmare where once you understand that if I don't spend I don't see the real game, it means it's not a game but a job.
They said it's f2p, so why do I basically see a demo or a single boring part of the game? Tier 1 are slow and not very useful, it is impossible to destroy bases with planes, only those who get kills are rewarded while playing as a team and defending allies gets little or nothing.
I spent more on league of legend for skins and never for the champions (who even let you try them for free) because I like the way I play and it's honest and in other games where I had everything right away rather than on war thunder, here I got it done borrowed the account from a friend to try tier 8 and had fun. Knowing that I would NEVER play that tier unless in a year or more made me stop at tier 2 and let it go.
They made the game a work and a cult.

Honestly when was the last time they actually implemented meaningfull gameplay or quality of life changes? Bombers are mostly useless/ the game has progressed to new technolegy incredibly fast and air rb is functionally the same it was 10 years ago, and dont get me started on ground rb map designs and the way they artificaly nerfed tank traction so people wouldnt get to overpowerd spots on their poorly designed maps

Before I quit I would literally play 2 hours of grinder premium tanks at T3/T4 to make the silver lions I needed to play an hour of T5 because 1 bad game had me spending 20k or more on repair costs. So there I went a fairly competant player with 3 maxed out crews going seal clubbing hopping into my premium tanks and slaughtering newbie players for hours every day, racking up 10-12 kills per game just so I could afford to play a match in a higher tier without running out of SL.
After doing that for a few months I had an epiphany, fuck this game, why do I play hours on end just so I can play how I like? The answer, I shouldn't and no one should. Fuck the game fuck the devs, and I am happy they are finally getting taken to task.
Also forgot to mention Gaijin continuing to take vehicles out of folders to artificially lengthen grinds (Not sure why no one is talking about this) and the Russian dev stream guy calling players poor peasants who should shut the fuck up if they don't have money

I actually measured just how long the grind is, if you play for 6 hours a day everyday, you can grind every vehicle in about 35.5 years. I cannot reasonably think of any logical reason other than greed to have the grind any longer than it already is. Even if you spend money for the fastest grinding time you're looking at 3.4 years and about $23,000

Something ground forces players have wanted for a very long time is groundforce only mode, for those of use who don't want CAS spam. They will never give that as an option as a game mode because they know that almost 100% of the players who want to play tanks will play that game mode rather than deal with how cancerous CAS actually is. Frighteningly professional research and by far the best summary of current events surrounding War Thunder. It's a shame that, with few exceptions, the "elite content creators" don't have a similarly rational approach.
That's wrong though. Almost every war thunder youtuber I know of made a video calling gaijin out on their bullshit. Even if they did it because it was the trend, I don't think they didn't care.

@@lt.lettuce2023 No they didn't. Most of them made a singular video saying how bad it is after enough players mentioned the backlash in their comment sections. And after that they went back to their regular War Thunder uploads and seemed to have forgotten about the issues. It's also worth pointing out that most of them don't have to grind for a single vehicle as they can just request gold, silver, premum/event tanks. Some content creators for War Thunder have absolutely no idea how it actually feels to play without all those benefits, so they have an altered view on the game that doesn't match up to the rest of the community. For example a lot of the content creators plays all their vehicles completely spaded and crews aced, which is something the vast majority of the playerbase don't do. So of course they will have a better time in the game compared to everyone else, since they are at an advantage. It's not all about skill, when they have crew that repairs a tank faster or reloads the gun faster then everyone else. In some regards content creators show the game in a different light, compared to how the game actually plays, which feels dishonest. Especially since content creators are the biggest influencer for the continuation of the inflow of new players into the game.

"Kicking and screaming" is probably the most apt term I've heard for describing Gaijin's attitude towards anything that doesn't contribute towards lining their pockets. It genuinely feels like they're now physically incapable of making changes that would actually improve the grind for the player. Even the recent reversion was just that, only a reversion to the previous values, not an improvement that the community has been crying out for for years. The HEAT-FS/APFSDS situation shows just how vindictive theyre willing to be when it comes to the community's complaints, willing to make the player experience considerably worse and snarkily act like they've done exactly what was asked of them. The recent "please post your concerns to our forums instead of in steam reviews because reviews wont help new players but new players definitely have forum accounts premade before playing the game and we will definitely not moderate your posts to our liking" really pangs of the old Gaijin that threatened to abuse the youtube copyright system to stop people from exposing bugs in their game, leading to the mass WT boycott by a lot of content creators.
I just hope that the required and sufficient shakeup in the Gaijin ranks occurs before they throw another world class tantrum and shoot themselves in the foot again. WT has the capacity to be an excellent game, even with its age old spaghetti code and bugs, it just needs someone who is more interested in playing the game to be at the reins rather than someone purely interested in monetising the latest edition of generic "USSR makes the best everything" tank game.
I abandoned WoT for a number of reasons, but way, way out front was premium ammunition. People should be allowed to pay to customize their vehicles, But no one should ever be allowed to pay for an advantage. It kicks off an arms race to see who can pay the most for the most advantage. Pay to win is a non starter. Full stop!

At least on league of legend or Dota even if I start from 0 what matters is my skill and knowledge. On war thunder not only do I have to study the game with each vehicle but I also have to have an unnatural patience to research the modules (which I should have immediately since it is a pvp), train the crew because otherwise they are at a disadvantage against other players.. are we serious? in 2024 do I still have to train crew and research modules in a pvp? I believe that now new players don't go beyond level 15, as soon as they discover how unfair the grind system is they give up and move on to something else.
It may be the best game that mixes realism and arcade, but if I don't enjoy it I'll get another game. I want to play, not work.
Yeah, I found the whole "timing" thing that they figure top tier tanks should be obtainable to be insulting. I have over 1200 hours in the game, over a year and a half playing, and I have YET to earn a top tier vehicle.

Personally one of the most upsetting changes I remember was when the battlepass came out and they decided to ruin the already perfectly fine warbond shop by linking it with the battle pass. It was perfectly simple and eloquent when all you had to do to earn warbonds was complete daily tasks and special tasks. With the new system its tied to the level in the battlepass AND the total collectable amount of warbonds got reduced AAAND the max rate at which you could earn warbonds got more than halved. I understand how you feel so much, before the battlepass with the warbond shop you could get one rank 3 vehicle every 2 weeks and it was soo easy now they locked it behind time restrictions, missions and challenges and you can get one like every battlepass

This makes me appreciate Warframe devs quite a bit. Like sure, sometimes they implement a new thing it's so grindy it's impossible to get but they learn from their mistakes and don't repeat it. they released 3 open world maps, one at a time and you could clearly see they weren't making the same mistakes again, even adding things like a pity system.
Warframe is light years ahead of warthunder, did you saw warframe battlepass? its just way better that the one in war thunder and in the last one they even had free rewards of warframe and weapon slots.

I love how they tried to tell us how economy is done in F2P games, as though warframe doesn't exist. warframe is the most successful f2P game ever for one simple reason, you are not forced to buy anything with real money, including the "paid" currency, platinum, which you can get entirely for free by trading with players, doing certain quests (though these are a one time thing), or hell, sometimes even twitch prime gives you platinum. everything you see in game in warframe can be obtained for free by just playing for a few hours.
onto gaijin "listening", they said to leave feedback on the forums so they can listen to players more easily, great idea until you notice they're deleting any posts giving feedbacks, including posts from their own forum mods, and in some cases banning users entirely.
and then we get to the supposed changes they promised. if you've seen the recent datamines for the last week on the dev server, they are doing the complete opposite of what they promised, and are increasing repair costs/RP costs/SL costs across the board.
gaijin thinks the game shutting down would make us feel like assholes, when in reality we'd be more than happy to watch the game go offline for good, cause then gaijin has no good source of income. we have plenty of other games to play. while they have things like enlisted, star conflict and i think one other game, those games are not their games as they simply publish them. there is a reason enlisted has gotten more popular recently, it's actually fun and worth paying money on as everything costs half as much as war thunder. you wanna buy premium time? $40 for 180 days in war thunder, while you get a full year for the same $40 in enlisted
Also path of exile as well, you only pay for some convenience and cosmetics, and it's 100% possible to play endgame content without premium stash tabs if you are smart with what you keep, and if you're really desperate for storage you can always make a mule character in less than 5 minutes.
Gaijin already shows actions. Vehicles on dev server get "price decrease" of 7sl while Etendard 4 (plane so rarely seen because of unfair balancing and repair costs) gets further repair cost increase of several thousands of sl.
So at the end they got away with the reapir cost increase and nothing changed

Tremendous effort on this historic documentary on the history of Gaijin fucking over the players. Really am happy I forced myself to give this game up a few months back. I never played without premium time and sunk over 4000 hours with basically every premium German vehicle and I still don’t have a single tech tree complete. I really could not tolerate it regardless of how much fun it was to just learn about all the vehicles in the game.
I quit too man. Won't be playing unless MAJOR Changes are made.
I quit in 2019 had well over 400$ invested it just wasn't fun anymore it became a time pit and they really didn't care if you put money into the game there is also a huge disadvantage to console players when it comes to controls and they havnt even tried to address it I won't be coming back until there is massive changes made

I got to around tier 3 for German and US and have stuck around 2-3 for the WW2 experience, wasn't so keen for modern tech/premiums etc.
So to summarise with your review.
Gaijin acts naughty... Don't listen to requests from audience. Only immediately acts upon said requests, when it turns to criticism and backlash. Then immediately go back to their antics when left alone

I actually like the idea of pre-battle training in a different way. A consumable just like it was going to be, but you get it just the same as a booster, and instead of the weird things they were gonna do for improvements, just give the vehicle the same stats as if it had an expert crew for the battle
Ex War Thunder player here. Thankfuly I quit a bit before the first heatseeking missiles were added. I used to play this game back when realistc battles were called historical battles. The only advice I can give for you guys is to just go play DCS or IL2 great comunities and the games are a lot more engaging and the fights are meaningfull. Trust me guys its what you are looking for, you just don't know it yet.
Realism is not heavy in War Thunder. Their "realism" is about on par with Ace Combat. haha

Yeah they even made it to be only noticeable on spaded vehicles so people would take a lot longer to notice. Its like people says, they always find a way to sneakily screw us over.
The things I think they need to fix as well are vehicles with incorrect modelling and cockpit placeholders. One example of incorrect modelling is the abrams line up. The turrets are asymmetric.
I've been playing WT long enough to remember... well, it was the first economy nerf that I personally know of (though I'm sure there were others prior)-the boosters themselves. Sure, at a glance, it looks like a side-grade from the old First Win Bonus system, but the fact that those bonuses only applied to a win made them inherently more effective because it was a little less likely that the booster would be wasted & more likely that it would be spent on a good game as well. On top of that, it was... pretty much better, net, than any booster (assuming you played all nations).
Interesting how literally no popular tank game gives a single fk about their community. Gaijin with War Thunder, Wargaming with World of Tanks, MyGames with Armored Warfare. It just makes me really sad.
i have been a player since Oct 2013 (last few years not so much) and i can tell you, 2018 wasn't the first time Gaijin heard an uproar from the players...

No there are quite a lot of tanks that miss horsepower or armor, that arent updated to the correct values. They usually dont correct them because it fits the balance as they see fit or cant be bothered
The market items to speed up crafting event progress are a cynical attempt to reintroduce the market upgrades you were talking about. They spend too much time creating problems to sell you the solutions instead of making a good game.
edit: also Gaijin lied in their comms. They said they never released the update after player feedback (they did, I played it), then they claimed they withdrew it after feedback but not the boycott.
In the dev server they decreased marginally some stock repair costs but the spaded repair costs were increased. Thats how they work, in one hand they show you solutions and they screw you over with the other.
Gaijin is like that one kid who picks on you at recess but cries and calls their parents when you fight back.
I wish you went into all of their controversies from over the years because i remember BR compression being a thing back in 2016

On that same update they also removed the proximity bonuses, reduced scouting rewards and for air they nerfed earnings from up to 66%. It was the worst economy update.

A heavy tank in downtiers usually slaps but because vehicles don’t get 50:50 up and downtiers it makes some vehicles too effective according to Gaijin. So they usually slap on some insane repair cost on such vehicles.

Havent played WT in more than 8 years now, but about the stock syndrome, ima say this - back in the day (maybe its the same currently) the JPZ 4-5 started out with darts when stock. Darts... in WT, APCR is a useless shell, even if in RL those were fairly rare and effective. No spalling; hardly able to pen anything angled (or, in 90%, not at all); losing penetration over distance rapidly; dealing little to no damage when it does pen. On the JPZ 4-5 - a vehicle that has no armor, while meeting stuff thats angled, with armor, and guns able to casually one shot it from kilometers away.

I remember back in the day when gaijin said they will never ass premium jets to the game... Then they said they won't add premium jets with missiles... And it just went down hill
And then they started releasing jets like the german sea hawk, it was so broken back in the day, it was really easy to get 3-4 kill macthes. I think that that was the moment they realised that was profitable to increase the premium powercreep on each update.
It's good to see that they've realized just how much power the player base actually has, granted they are still doing everything in their power to make things as difficult as possible, but we have definitely shaken their resolve to do so with this past revolution. but we should also remind them of what could happen if they continue.

In this video I'd include their attempt to completely destroy the sound mods, when it was an issue for competitive battles but they decided to nuke it in all game modes. Fortunately the community united again against this ridiculous decision. Btw a great video.
I even heard that they were baning people for using custom sound mods thats so scummy on their part.
This is justified because it gives the mod user an advantage, for example being able to hear engines better or from bigger distance, maybe some kind of a threshold for volume would solve things 🤷

That their planes cost the same as the DCS equivalents is just mind boggling to me.
Also, lets not forget the incident where they put players in premium time debt over an error they made. All of this during a CHARITY event called Play4Peace.
That was a total ransomware like scam, they gave players a "gift" link and after people claimed it they said it was for new players and blocked their accounts until they paid but it dosent end there, they also removed all the premium time that they bought with their money. Thats blatant theft.

I stopped playing fucking years ago and I've never been happier. I think it's been 5 years now. Nothing has really changed huh, and it's not just their monitization that's been awful but their balancing. Remember when Air RB used to be popular? Then Gaijin released the Tu-4, the bomber spawn altitude changes AND the damage model changes which made every plane immune to anything than a German 30mm, all of these releasing in the same update and immediately killing Air RB and Gaijin did nothing about it for years? I remember. Remember the OLD rocket damage model which just insta deleted any tank at any angle at any distance and made teams that had the British or Americans fucking awful to play against? I remember. Do you remember the old Solid Shot damage modelling which made Britain an absolute nightmare to play for like 2 years until France came out? I remember.
Guess what? now they made 30mm usless, shots with 30mm just get you "impact" you get more consistent damage with.50 cals LOL
If an artificial economy, one whose purpose is supposed to be to give players something to grow between milestones, is so player unfriendly, then it is doing its job wrong.

Before that, i must first make myself familiar with how War Thunder handles changes, and how changes affect the game itself, as well as find and bypass any defences it has within it.

FPE and repair kit should be available as default. It's BS that you're going in a battle and you have ammo to shoot but no extinguisher or basic repair kit... It's an MBT not a pickup truck.

4:38 I remember I played 100 GAMES WITH LEO 1 with STOCK AMMO but still didn't unlock it until that upgrade. If you ever playerd Leo 1, you would know how sht it's stock. It never penetrates, luckly if it penetrates, never do damage etc. Later I dropped tanks for that high silver costs. I was losing money each game.
I went to german bombers and damn they were worse. I would lose money EVEN IF I GOT BEST SCORE AND A WIN IF I DOWNED ONCE. So at some point I was not able to play for a week until I have enough money.
From those days, I dropped the game for like 4-5 years.

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: if you are in ground battles and loose all but one crew member, you should be able to keep driving or whatever you want to do. I don’t care if this makes the reload time 20 seconds. Fight to the last man.
Last stand was a mechanic the game had a few years ago, but it was deleted because it was incredibly frustrating as a mechanic. I believe some 2 man vehicles might still have it, but thats it.
Trust me when i say its a good thing that single crew member tanks is not something you want

Crazy no1 seem to care much about the fact that 100k warthunder review was basically shadow-banned because steam thinks it's review bombing.
Review bombing is when a company makes a dogshit garbage game, and a joint effort review-bombs their other games.
What War Thunder players did, was reviewing the game they've been playing the past years, showing their discontent, so how come steam and gaijin can delete hundreds, even thousands of hours played player's reviews with the excuse of "review bombing"?? They shouldn't be able to do that, and it shouldn't be sweeped under the rug either.
MOST content creators seem to move on after making 1 video chasing the clout, but none of them talks about 100k reviews that's been deleted.
Just check what would the reviews do with the game's review rating on steam and you get the answer as to why they conspired with steam.
War Thunder essentially just throws thing in your way until you pay it to go away for a bit.
Unlike most f2p games War thunder actively punishes you for playing without premium things, be it prem time or vehicle (at least from my experience, players far better than me will probably disagree).
I gotta achieve at least 3-4 kills a match so i can afford to be shot down with the planes i like (that is without prem time on non prem planes) now idk about you but in my usual match most of the players struggle to even get one kill each, let alone 4. I also rarely get the specified number of kills.
This essentially feels like the game punishing me for playing the game, imo this also promotes behavior as kill-stealing, airfield camping and space climbing as they do seem to be somewhat promising to lower the chance of having to pay repair costs. Airfield camping and space climbing lower the chance of being killed, kill-stealing lowers the threat for you while getting you SL.
In comparison most other f2p games like for example Warframe lean more towards trying to make you like the game enough to give yourself a treat with cosmetics and sure you can buy the special currency to buy high level equipment but unlike war thunder Warframe doesn't feel like it punishes you for not doing so, especially since you can also get the special currency via player trading.
Due to the repair costs people is so greedy with kills on top tier, i am tired of getting killstealed on every match.
I still have 0 faith that gaijin will do the right thing. I'm convinced that they are simply incapable.

For those wondering: while they did retract the the devblog for the modification consumables part of it was already coded into the game and they didn't bother removing it. Before the devblog you could use FPE (fire prevention equipment) in an instant. They then pre-patched in a cooldown to the FPE (there was a delay before you could use it again) ahead of the consumables update, but didn't bother removing it after the backlash caused the update to be retracted.
