I'm so happy you ended up talking about Apache Air Assault!
You Said the game was arcade-y, however, if you wish to, there was a difficulty setting that allowed you to have advanced controls, and these felt very similar to War thunder's system, and allowed you to do some funky stuff. Aside from the campagn, there was also a bunch of side missions that felt very unique. The very first one gave you an Apache that had no hellfires, and you had to destroy a tank collumn before it reached an ennemy base. Man that game was dope, even thought it was very straight forward. I'm feeling nostalgic now lol

Apparently that's the title it was released as by Gaijin for polish market :D . God this video brought me to my childhood growing up in Kazakhstan
surprisingly, even not knowing it was from the same game company, I got my hands on some of these in one way or the other.
Бумер (Bumer/Bimmer) I got by exchanging games back when I was still in early middle school (haven't beaten one of the car shootout parts and gave up).
Adrenalin: Extreme Show was a must-play game for a kid who loved Flat Out , spent hundreds of hours in it. (I had to sneak this in without the knowledge of my parents because of the "hot babes" in the racing game)
Most of these I at least heard of or "trial" versions were provided with tech and gaming magazines back when those were still a thing.
Ил-2 Штурмовик (or Wings of Prey in some markets) was a hit of the hits and was the catapult they needed to go big

I bought and played IL-2 Sturmovik so much back in the 2010s. I still have my copy with the pre-owend $17.99 sticker with a near-mint condition manual and disk. Now I just got the MiG-29 in war thunder and looking back I have come a long way, and been Gaijined a lot along that path. But if given the chance to do it all again, I would gladly live the experience, but skip the grind.

Great video. I appreciate the time and effort it took to create this video. Congrats ! I'm glad to see Wings of Prey and Apache Air Assault on the list. I loved those games however was so very frustrating trying to connect to their servers on Wings of Prey. So many bugs in the systems, terrible server connection if you could get one. But the game was visually stunning and so many missions to fly. I believe if they re-released it and made a better host/client connection it would be popular. Apache Air Assault was also fun and thermal view of the insurgents on the ground was so realistic looking. I only wished they had a multiplayer component. I'm referring to the PC versions with a server and a host. Too bad there was not another option to connect to a server instead of the Yuplay servers which are long gone.

I remember 13yo me sitting in front of my PS3 playing Birds of Steel everyday, looking back and seeing how far its coke yet how much has remained the same just makes me think about time, and every time when I once and a while boot it up on my old PS3, it takes me back to those days, in a B-17 over the Ruhr, or in a Spitfire over the channel, a Mustang over Belgium, with my buddies from middle school just thinking if they'll ever make the game better.

Im not joking. They are very similiar. Move on all fours and then lunge at the player in almos the same way !

God I played the hell out of Il 2 Sturmovik on Xbox 360 (good game but a fair few problems)
    But Birds of Steel
    OH MAN Birds of Steel
Only counting console games, there is maybe NO GAME I played more as a kid than Birds of Steel. Probably my first real war-based video game (unless you count Lego Star Wars).
I vividly remember playing those missions, ones like "The Two Against 39" or "To Scratch One Flattop" as a kid and almost feeling like I was there. I wasnt just playing a video game.
I was defending my brothers on Wake Island, and even tho I knew the history well, desperately hoping that USS Enterprise (CV-6) would mount that horizon and save us.
I unlocked every. single. thing. in that game. And as far as the main American campaign goes, I beat it in a matter of...... 4 days? Maybe 5?
When I started playing War Thunder I had NO idea they were made by the same company until the snail stared me dead in the eyes and the music brought me back to being the first American pilot to go toe to toe with the Japanese over Pearl Harbour, or fighting my way through clouds of Zero's to deliver Hiryou her final fate.

The soundtrack for apache air assault is absolute 🔥🔥🔥 there's a UA-cam Playlist that I can't be bothered linking that has all but one of the songs I'm aware of, that I can't find anywhere else anyways. If you find it two good songs to get a vibe of is the third song, and the fourth one from the bottom!!

Birds of steel on the Xbox 360 was genesis for me. I recently went back to that game and did you know there are premium vehicles for that game? I believe a P-47 thunderbolt and a couple other planes were Xbox market add ons, as well as a couple maps or missions (and the usual silver lions buying mechanism)… gave me crazy whiplash and was amazing to see how far War Thunder has come since 1.39 when I started playing
