Hell yea man, looks like you and I are on a similar journey! I was at Berklee from 2011-2012. When I left life happened and a few years later I had pretty much stopped playing entirely. I'm back at it now though and enjoying rediscovering my passion and growing as a musician. Let's stick with it.
@@zack_drums_yt woah what are the chances. so great to hear man, just subbed to your channel! we might have missed out on some years and where we could have been with the efforts of some of our peers, but life is multifaceted and i imagine you developed many other aspects of yourself in that time. good on you for getting back in the saddle, we’re lucky to still have so much time to enjoy our passion and craft. thanks for sharing man wishing you all the best.

Welcome back, I'm in the exact same boat as you man. I'm a producer engineer sound designer who started on the drums very early as a kid with a lot of potential. I gave it up in my early teens and have only just been coming back to it now at 23 years old, more willing to practice and become disciplined than ever, in order to, in your inspiring words, honor that younger aspect of myself that I could've been. As much as I feel regret for the wasted years, I feel lucky to have such a passion and love for music and the drums. It's really inspiring to me, and it seems you've felt the same which is amazing to see. Once a drummer always a drummer.
@@clocked2002 thanks for sharing your story so glad you’re coming back full circle and hey you have 10 years on me so enjoy this next decade. Gospel chops has influenced more playing than any genre for drummers in the last decade or so. It's all it's i hear on y tube. I love it don't get me wrong. Your swing interlude was nice. If that's the first time with sticks behind a kit it ten that's impressive.

@RoyalRawLife yessir! Tho during my time there I was at the 270 Comm Ave "dorms". Same kinda practice rooms, just way fewer. Not even sure they still house ppl there these days tbh. Re: rudiments.. YES. As they say "youth is wasted on the young.". Maaan if I knew then what I know now.. I would have slept w my rudiments book and did em in my sleep. Not to mention Ted Reed's Syncopation. Quick story maybe you'll appreciate- First private lesson my first week was w John Ramsey. He's like "ok, play a little around the kit." No prob. Then he opens to that first 8th note exercise in Syncopation and he's like "ok, play time, and read the line, short notes left hand, long notes kick drum. Go" I played that shh straight AF, didn't know what he meant "play time", nor what he meant by "swung 8ths". Lol. Then he explains "no no, I mean jazz ride, hats 2 & 4, then read the line, swing 8th". You want me to do whaat?! He politely put his hands on my sticks to stop the butchering, pulled up a chair to his pad, handed me a sheet of rudiments and goes "we got a llot of work to do..". I died about 3 times of pure shame haha. It was then that I realized I knew NOTHING. Ha. He whipped my ass into shape tho. But I never really mastered the rudiments.
