I was kinda vibing along going like, "okay okay nice. I can see the rust, but everything is still functional. I've been there before. Just takes some lubrication. We still winnin'." And then 1:45 hit and I was like, 😮😮😮😮😮😮😮. "You mean man's said we ain't seen his final form yet?" And don't worry, the laid back dilla type beat prior to that fill was NOT lost on me in the slightest. And wait....... Berklee?!????? And you made it out?!??? With your degree?!?????? You're PERFECTLY fine now. Lol. I understand that rust is a thing, but you EARNED the right to be confident in your playing. 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Not saying Berklee is everything, but it at least counts for something, because that's not easy to accomplish.
appreciate you homie. hah!glad to hear you know your styles n caught the dilla style right quick. i respect and salute the encouragement, good vibes and keen awareness! this month starting some pad work should help get things oiled up for better articulation on the kit for future clips. stay winnin!! 🤙🏽
@RoyalRawLife Much appreciated. And same to you. I'll admit, I can't take full credit for the Dilla awareness. The main reason I know is because of Nate the 80/20 drummer. 😅 Pad work started actually getting fun for me recently (it usually never was). In the past year, I picked up a pad with a snare sound and that made pad work a helluva lot more fun. And then I had an epiphany that we drummers can make music out of literally anything, so why not make a practice pad groove? 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 That made pad work more addicting for me.
@@TrevyMellow I don't know if my other post made it. To answer your question, I got a pad with a snare sound off Amazon recently, complete with a stand, sticks, and a travel case. Ktaxon, the one with the cool design on it; looks like a black hole that's partially in water. $25-30 for the whole set. Don't know how it holds up long term tho. The other one I have is an old hexagonal xymox pad that doesn't seem to be in circulation anymore. The other "standard issue" one I'd point to is the Ahead 10 inch practice pad with snares. But it's $45-50, so there's that.
Fall in love with the metronome AGAIN or for the first time a la Chris Coleman and the Boss DB-90. Especially the voice function. Once your body realigns with the time your musicality will find itself again. Melodies are nd phrases. Tell us a story through your solos [that long lost art of composing music as opposed to displaying chops].
@@TrevyMellow I heard the time issues too...BUT I am sure that was mostly due to mechanics and just a lack of playing...I'm sur you will be just fine in a week or two of losing the rust! Come to think of it ...this was 2 weeks ago...post another and I bet you kill!
@@Youaremeandiareyou thanks for the suggestion. i could transcribe songs, it’s been a while. could totally break down structure/grooves on songs. and other tutorials ideas. thanks for planting the seed.
@ chur brother, for time I’ve searched for tutorials and they all teach Humpty Dumpty type beats, your style so 🔥 and unique to what’s being taught out there
