In high school we had camps at UNC, teams from all over CO would stay in the dorms for 4 days and scrimmage and practice. The campus is awesome and has great facilities, it’s a shame how bad the product is on the field.
I was born and raised in Greeley. The only sports that came out of UNC was basketball and wrestling. Football was irrelevant to us because we knew we sucked and nothing would change
Thanks for the video! I was at UNC in 97 when they won the second title, and a friend of mine that I played football with was a starting lineman at UNC in the early 2000s. One of my dorm mates made it on the team in 97 as a walk on as well. I had been kind of wondering what has happened since the years I was there (especially after hearing about McCaffrey coaching there) all this time. I randomly got this video as a recommendation and it was great! Thanks for getting us caught up!
I could see Northern Colorado in a new FCS Conference for Football. I could see UNC rejoin the the 4 Dakota programs with the WAC Utah programs under the management of the Summit League.
My international student friends wanted the American experience of painting our chests at a football game. So we painted "BEERS" and literally no one in the crowd of a few hundred even noticed.
I graduated from UNC in 1994. At the time, the only time we drew more than 2,500 fans at a game was on homecoming weekend. The stadium was two blocks east of campus and very few students attended games, even though students got in for free. This was at the beginning of the Joe Glenn era, which was pretty much the only successful period at UNC. And just to give you an idea how clueless the administration was, they were shocked to learn that, outside of Colorado,.UNC refers to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Northern Colorado won its first game last month for the first time in 2 years. Yikes. Northern Colorado is more known for its academics than athletics.
I live in Greeley!! This was awesome to watch! My personal opinion is that since UNC's 2 major strengths are Music and Teaching, those people typically don't play football and help contribute to an already crummy program. UNC football barely ever has a front-page article in the Greeley Tribune. But I still love Greeley the town! Most people complain about it, but I really love it here.
Please do one of these on my alma mater Northwestern State in Natchitoches, LA. Big names like Bobby Hebert, Joe Delaney, as well as Coach O have played there, but they’ve been terrible for the last 25 years or so. It’s gotten so bad, They had a player killed by gun violence last season and cancelled their remaining games.
The thing about Northwestern State that stands out the most to me is how they ended up matched up at Montana in the first round of the playoffs during the early 2000s.
“Yes. Yes. You know what's interesting. The quarterback for the Atlanta Falcons is Bobby Hebert. No "r" which I find fascinating. You know it's Herbert h-e-r-b-e-r-t, Hebert h-e-b-e-r-t. "Hebert" it's a fun name to pronounce. Try and say it Hebert. Take a shot. All right.”
High School practice fields in Texas seem to be larger than Northern Colorado's Stadium. If they're going to lose, it might as well be in the new Mountain West or new PAC-8 that seem desperate for members. They will need a stadium at least the size of a Texas Independent School District Stadium.
The most recent national championship this school has seen was in 2023 in wrestling when Andrew Alirez won his weight class. Alirez & UNC alum/UFC Fighter Justin Gaethje are what’s keeping this university relevant
Would love to see a video on the stagnation od Northern Iowa's football program. Power house in the 90s, National title appearance in the 2000's, and haven't had a contending team since 2015
Sadly, the entire university of northern colorado has been riding the struggle bus for a while. Last year was the first since 2017 where they didn't see declining year-over-year enrollment, and it was a small increase too, something like 1.5%. It's already tough for them living in the shadow of boulder and fort collins, and we're reaching an across-the-board enrollment cliff that will be hard for small schools to survive. I think they may face a decision on whether to just shut down the program entirely sooner than later, but doing so might accelerate their long-term decline at the expense of short-term gain.
@@alexbeuerman7608 That student population decline applies to most schools. Overall in the USA, the student population (based on K-12 enrollment) is forecast to decline each year. There are small private schools closing. UNC won’t be that bad off.
Back in the early 1990s, we would beat Mines 70-0. I remember playing Mesa State one year when, at the end of the first half, we had more points than they had yards gained.
You should definitely do a video on the Hawkins era buffs. It was an abject failure but was also kind of weird because they did stuff like beat AJ green and Georgia and #4 Oklahoma
My girlfriend went to Valor Christian High School with Luke and Dylan McCaffrey, said the dad wasn't a good coach, he just had the most talented roster in the state.
It seems UNColorado is stuck between a rock and a hard place as far as athletics goes. Football struggles aside, they've done very well virtually everywhere else, and having an active football program has helped with the other sports from a standpoint of overall attraction. UNC football can be good again, they don't exactly have to be national title winning good like in the D2 days, but just show you absolutely give a darn from a matter of both investment and proper decision making. They've been swing and a miss on the latter regarding finding the perfect head coach. It just might be all it takes to turn it around, and light a spark...
To that end, just look at what has happened at Sac State over the past decade. The football program has gone from afterthought to now looking to move up to FBS.
Someone’s gotta lose in football. Otherwise it’s harder to fulfill the Big Sky’s mission of making at least one of the Montana schools look good. Meanwhile, Portland State is envious of that crowd at Nottingham.
@ No. They should mock Division One until someone does something about it. The fact that most people in Portland question why they still have a football program… never mind them.

What would you say to a video about a D1 WBB Team who has had one winning season since the 91-92 season? If you want to start from the 89-90 season, only two winning seasons, the 90-91 team went to the NCAA, plus two .500 seasons! They have had about 10 single digit win seasons! The team is currently 1-10, 0-10 vs D1 schools. That would be a great video!
if they end up with a losing record this year, that will be 34 losing seasons in 36 years! 90’s, 2000, and 2010 is 30 years. 20-25 is 6 years! 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25! If you want to blame someone, put the blame on HC and then senior women’s administrator, then HC agin Maryalce Jeremiah. She led every single hiring of HC’s and then came back to coaching, but not before retiring and forcing the school to hire her top AC as HC. Finally around 2018, her reign of error ended. A new AD fired her AC, but the made a terrible hire, then hire the current HC, who had one winning season. But hasn’t been able to keep the winning going.

UNC is competitive in almost every other sport so that’s probably what’s holding them back from going back to D2
