I had forgotten about Coughlin snubbing Mara like that, and you're 100% right. to just the refusal to shake his hand, but the knowledge that whatever had taken place behind closed doors enraged Coughlin so much that he publicly dissed Mara showed us also that without Wellington, and without Accorsi, the team was rudderless.

    2015 is one of the most frustrating seasons ever as a Giants fan. Watching the offense kick field goals in goal to go situations and having the defense give up every lead in the last 2 minutes of a game was unbearable to watch. Also losing Victor Cruz for 2 seasons was a big problem as well. And Rashad Jennings was a decent signing but we needed a better replacement for Bradshaw. Seemed like Jerry Reese couldn’t hit on any of his draft picks either during that time frame. Rueben randle was an ok WR, David Wilson retired early, Damontre Moore was immature, Landon Collins overrated, Eli Apple was a disaster, Ereck flowers was unplayable, and so on. The Giants from 2012-2018 failed Eli manning. He definitely had another run in him and he played some of his best football during those years and the Giants couldn’t get him any help. Sad to see coughlin be let go after winning two super bowls and sad to see Eli get benched by a head coach with little to no experience. Hopefully we can go back to the giants football we’re used to soon.

      2014-2018 literally took everything out of me as a Giants fan. Organizational failure from top to bottom. Cheap owner, mismanagement of injuries, horrible coaching staffs, overall could never get with the times. Everything that could go wrong went wrong.
      This season especially was the worst of it. The Dallas game and the Patriots game still give me major ptsd. New Orleans game too from that stupid punt return (like we hadn’t learned from Desean Jackson). Easily could’ve had 4 wins if they remembered the basic fundamentals of football late in those games.
      The 2016 season was such a fluke too. Moronically kept Reese after letting go of Coughlin. Ben Mcadoo and that whole team had no aura and the season ended distastorously. Set em back an additional few years.

You guys are going to be picking high in draft and things can change quickly if you get the right player.
      Look at Washington, they swept the Giants this year after getting Drake Maye. I'm a lot more worried about the Giants future. We seem to mess everything up. Last year we were absolutely terrible but at least that would have gotten us a great spot in the draft to pick a QB. But then we end up winning 3 meaningless games in a row with Tommy "Cutletts" Devito. Now I really like Tommy and it would have been an amazing story if he went from the practice squad to our future QB. But those games put us just out of reach of the draft pick we needed.

    There's alot of ingredients to this season: Firstly Tom Coughlin was indeed starting to age out of the job. As much as he gets this image of being a curmudgeon, Tom was always a fan of big offense and was a very modern thinker in the game, and that's why he was always one of the best on challenges. Tom is as good of an in-game coach as I've ever seen and when that started to slip in 2015, in addition to losing grip of special teams and uncharacteristically giving Odell cover in the press, I knew the end was coming. Spags also doesn't get off easy here. As much as I love him, Steve needs chicken to make chicken salad. If you give him a defensive line, he will absolutely build a winning scheme around it. When he doesn't have the pass rushers, like here and his time in STL and NO, his defenses crumble and put up historically bad numbers. Perry Fewell was averaging 2 takeaways a game in 5 years as the DC, and giving that away for a nostaglic run with Steve was a HUGE mistake. People always used to joke that the Giants coddled Eli, and if anything, I think we all know that the truth is closer to the other way around.

    How about 2017 ruining the giants? Make huge splash purchases for Olivier Vernon, Snacks Harrison, and Jackrabbit. Make it to a playoff game where we get blown out. If we hadn't splurged in FA, perhaps we have a worse record, and perhaps we are within striking distance of pick number 10 in the draft. I feel like someone pretty good went in that draft position in 2017. McAdoo reportedly was a fan of his.

      The regime and McAdoo were a problem. Not in a good way. I have no confidence in them developing as Andy Reid has. McAdoo was a leech off the Aaron Rodgers teams and meshed decent in 2014-2015 but it was still Coughlin's offense. We saw his awful offense in 2016 and 2017 and Jerry Reese could never properly rebuild the line or provide a decent rushing game because of it.

    One of the only times after my team lost that I was unfazed by losing and thoroughly enjoyed the game , The Giants always had trouble with those Saints during the Drew Brees/Sean Payton era. Also shut out to Saints fans from being respectful and knowing their football and being so passionate and welcoming.

    The 2017 49ers were crazy
    -They started 0-9,
    -Had 5 games they lost by a posession or less.
    -They had 7 or 8 games they lost by 10 pts or less
    -Won their first game week 9
    -Traded for Jimmy G,
    ended the season 5-0.
    -During the 5-game win streak, the 49ers won 3 straight games over teams that eventually made the playoffs
    They finished the season 6-10
    - The 49ers also became the first team in NFL history to start a season 0-9 and finish with more than three wins.
    But the point is, if they win those games, 1 possesion games, they would have made the playoffs…
    Some of the Craziest shit I ever saw

    This is a good video but for me personally the downfall began right after their SB win in 2011. 2012 was the last hurrah of the Giants team that had been so successful for the previous 7-8 years , with that season ending in a late collapse and it was all downhill from there. A lot of bad drafting from 2012-15 as well along with everything you mentioned

  • @praetorian9823

    Coughlin I feel like is the biggest question mark for their future at that point in time.
    For all his greatness, you have to wonder if age would've caught up to him, mainly because of his 2nd stint in Jacksonville.
    He went from an authoritarian who demanded the best and got results into being a complete tyrant who single handedly accounted for a quarter of player complaints in the *entire* NFL.
    Was him being fired by New York a consequence of that? Maybe it hardened his heart again? Or did football just finally leave him behind? Maybe all staying in New York would've done was turned them from awful to mediocre, or maybe they could've gotten at least one more good run in.
    We'll never know I suppose, but there's a reason he hasn't came back after he returned to the Jags.

    • @chiapets2594
      @chiapets2594 2 місяці тому

      No they turned him into a scapegoat you can see they were competitive in 2015 but fell apart completely when he was gone turned this team into the laughing stock of the league

    • @praetorian9823
      @praetorian9823 2 місяці тому +3

      @chiapets2594 again, that is absolutely true, for New York, but refer back to his 2nd stint in Jacksonville.
      1 quarter of all player complaints in the *entire league* belonged to Coughlin in Jacksonville, and he arguably is a major reason why Jacksonville's absolutely absurd defense disbanded just as ridiculously quick.
      Egos were all over the place and while Jacksonville absolutely needed a hardass alpha dog, Coughlin pushed it too far and made it so bad that the NFLPA itself recommended no one go to Jacksonville until he was fired or the culture changed.
      That's my point when I say that, he's a massive what if because how much of that was his age showing, versus his heart hardening after New York screwed him? It's a fascinating question to me.
