felix was overall the best character because he was so self aware. i hated when lake insulted and blamed victor for not wanting to do it with mia as if boys aren't allowed to not be ready for that type of intimacy regardless of whether they're questioning themselves or not
I feel like Lake was mad because Victor didnt just tell Mia that he wasnt ready and brought Felix to avoid it instead
I'm sorry, but Felix is the best character and needs to be protected at all costs. We all need a Felix in our lives.

I liked this show so much because it’s so much more realistic then love Simon or literally any other romantic movie or show. I liked every character and they were relatable without being cocky.
I agree, for once, it focused on a Latino guy coming out, and unlike Simon, Victor's family are more working class, and not as accepting as Simon's. 😔

I feel like Mia is an interesting character, but it was sad to see that the majority of her major character moments were sad. I mean...
1) Her mom left.
2) Her dad isn't around.
3) When her dad finally decides to stop traveling, it's not for Mia, but for his new fiance that is also pregnant.
4) Victor cheated on her.
5) She slept with Andrew after her absent mother called her (but it's extra sad cuz her mom didn't even say anything).

I also feel like they made her act uncharacteristically unreasonable at some points. She rushes to have sex then gets low-key offended when Victor's not ready and then has an issue when Victor can't come to an event due to WORK.
Richmond Kennedy Tbf Victor did cheat on her during that trip and lie abt how he had to stay the night. I don’t think she had a problem with the fact that he turned her down, just that he wasn’t being honest with her. I think with both the work trip and the thing abt them having sex has more to do with her abandonment issues, she’d already been feeling like Victor wasn’t that interested in her and when he turned her down, she felt like it was because of something she did or that she wasn’t good enough. Before the work trip Victor was being pretty distant and it was kinda obvious he wasn’t feeling that way abt her so it was kinda just proving her feeling that he was gonna abandon her. Which I think is why she was so upset.
That's bc the writer can only make you feel bad for a character and not charesmatic
I LOVED the representation since the family was actually Puerto Rican and not some stereotype of a hispanic family with a million kids and no traditions or specific cultural aspects

Maggie McFly if my best friend told me their sexuality was weaponized against them and that’s why they manipulated me, I’d be upset but try to understand and maybe talk to them about it? All of Simon’s friends dipped out immediately. Majorly shirt to not stand my a friend, no matter how mad you are at them, after they’ve been outed.
Ik Lake was insecure with everything going on at home but I just really couldn’t root for her and Felix being together after she refused to be seen in public him
Paris NR I absolutely never wanna see a storyline where a nerdy guy keeps pursuing a girl who rejects him after the fact ever again. Please writer gods do better, because they sunk Lake’s character by making her seem mean to Felix when she said she wasn’t into him.
I feel like she redeemed herself though at the end. The show is great at showing how the parents actions influence the kids. Lake is concerned with her image because of her mom. Mia looks for love in relationships and men because she feels abandoned by her mom. Victor tries to be the "perfect son" because his family has underlying tension and hard expectations to live up to. Felix is eccentric and cares about helping his friends because his mom has depression and a hording problem. The show is deeper than Lake just being a "bad person". It shows how a person's upbringing shapes them.
I rather Felix be with P since they had way better chemistry & she’ll actually be okay with being seen in public with him.

Very good show, however kinda of figured it would end on cliff hanger. The Simon cameo was great. Here’s to hoping next season we see other characters from the movie!
Except for one very critical point --- *How the hell did Simon KNOW WHAT VICTOR LOOKS LIKE? -- **_especially in NYC!_* They only *TEXTED* -- no photos were sent between them (but theoretically, Victor could have seen 'Simon's' photo in school in some way [yearbook?].

I'd like to see any bi characters in these stories. He goes to NY and literally everyone is described as gay. Even the enby-coded character is simply "gay." Very odd.

I feel like there is no definitive dislike toward homosexuality in the show from the parents. Especially after the birthday party moment. While there is a hope of the little brother not being gay, I feel as if the father said that more in worry of the little one being bullied rather than being homosexual. Of course it is easier to make assumptions when viewing it from the outside, but I feel like his family is more accepting of Victor than he thinks. Of course I don't expect to see blatant homophobia in a show, but I feel as if the show uses the families religion to explain why they are homophobic when religion was not a main focus point. I'd be more interested to see how one breaks from the blatant homophobia in a home and comes out on top.
Overall I really enjoyed it! Can't wait for season 2 to see how it works out!
completely agree man like its better than love Simon but ppl get kicked out for coming out or even disowned, we dont have a support group live victor, we arent on the basketball team as the best player, we dont even have our family before coming out, We dont have a best friend or real friends in general, would love a black version of pf this series

JohnnysWorlds agreed. There needs to be a black version of this series. And hopefully from the perspective of not only a black gay male, but a lesbian woman, even a trans woman. It really does differ throughout families/communities. There’s layers
@@joshr9812 @Josh R Definitely a harmful thing to say had she known and I am sorry you had to hear it as well. I understand how it can be hard to go against your parents expectations of you. It definitely makes you question whether you are in a comfortable environment or not. The show does help to show though that how your grandparents bring up you parents matter greatly when it comes to beliefs. The father had homophobic parents so he would occasionally make homophobic comments or jokes but was accepting of the gay couple at the birthday. I do wonder if parents truly don't want their child to be gay or are just influenced by their parental beliefs. I feel like it's the latter most of the time but can comes off as the first when you are in a situation of coming out.
I hope you are in a safe space now! As someone else has said, we are not like the shows who have supportive groups of friends to fall back on all the time. I hope you have your people to fall back on and if not the internet is your place to fall back on! 🙂
Lowkey there should be a spinoff where the character gets kicked out when they come out and they find a new family outside and the show explores homelessness and other stuff

I remember tons of people in Bisexual circles were excited about this show because they thought it would actually showcase a bisexual character. Turns out it was Alex Strangelove 2: electric boogaloo.
But based off your review, I may just give it a watch.

It was good but I have a lot of critiques, I think it’s down to the fact, there’s not a lot of representation for the LGBT+ community
Definitely liked the show, but am also heartbroken it isn't a bi story, but I guess there wouldn't be enough tension and drama over him being with a girl.
The plot is him being in denials about his attraction to i agree there should be more (or like any at all bi stories) i feel as tho it was made clear that he nvr really liked mia that way he was just confused and in denial
I was sad it wasn't a bi story too, as Simon's story was about him being just gay I thought they could play with the idea of different sexualities. Which i thought was happening when Victor dated Mia, but maybe it'll be complicated in the next season where maybe he is more than gay.
Dont get me wrong, I loved the show. But I am sick of the gay people cheating on their straight partner trope. All it does is make me dislike who is supposed to be the main love interest. All I want is to watch a romance movie about 2 gay people falling in love without sympathizing with their partner who i didnt expect to be there in the first place. And not being able to fully ship the main couple (cuz one of thems a cheater).
Obviously i understand its a good plot point for high emotions but in every single one? I was annoyed about it after watching alex strangelove but then this did the same thing.
In all the promo it looked like it was really going to explore gay relationships and dealing with having unsupportive family. But in reality they made us follow and focussed on straight relationships for the majority of the show, until the only gay couple breaks up so victor can be with benji. And victor doesnt even come out until the very last seconds of the finale without seeing the families reactions.
I feel like the promos kinda gave off false advertising. Even though i still loved the show, it just wasnt what i was expecting (and looking forward to).
honestly, that's why i liked the book (Simon vs the Homosapien Agenda) more than the movie. In the book, Leah wasn't in love with Simon, her only problem was she felt left out because of Abby and she was in love with Nick (which I could relate to, I felt like it was a nice change to the common trope you mentioned).
Yeah.. Netflix is flood with many similar situation it became its foundation.. Alot shows has that same "twist"..
It also plays into the biphobic belief that bi men are always just secretly gay. I thought this show would be one where Victor was bi, but it's just another tropey run :/
I had hoped Victor would be Bi but I also dont see a problem with it focusing on Mia and his relationship. When I was in high school there were some guys that came out after having relationships with girls in middle school or senior year of high school after they dated a girl the previous years. So that's realistic to me. Overall, I think the show was set up to have multiple seasons so him coming out too soon would have felt extremely rushed. I think the cliffhanger was perfect because we don't know if his family's homophobia will reach an all time high season 2 or not. Plus, sometimes the homophobia is subtle remarks. When I came out as bi my mom and dad still hated seeing any gay ppl on tv and would comment on it if a show they were watching had a gay romance subplot. I think if the show went in that direction for the parents to subtly try to change his sexuality or voice their concern it would be realistic.

Benji is the most unproblematic character with the face of a Disney prince! ❤️
I mean thats not entirely true. He just flat out ignored victor the whole rest of the trip after he kissed him. Any gay who knew what it felt like to be confused and closeted would not have just refused to talk about it, whether he was in a relationship or not he should have been understanding of victors feelings towards him, set those aside and talked it out. Benji should have tried to help victor understand what he was feeling especially after just admitting that when he was closeted he almost killed himself, after knowing how hard it can be in the closet, no one in their right mind would have reacted that way. Poor writing to make the ending seem better, it didn't.

But in most of the situations I found myself agreeing more with benji's boyfriend, like wtf I don't care who you are I'm not pretending to be straight for some homophobe. And making Benji seem like the good guy for doing that is problematic and just kinda lazy writing to set up the eventual pay off of victor standing up to his grandparents. And as much as I'd like to adore his hopless romanticism, its pretty naive and such and overused trope. But still cute, like his little anniversary date was adorable, and I wished something more extreme would have happend which made Benji break up with his boyf on their anniversary. As I was watching it I thought/ hoped that would end things there. I feel like doing that would have opened up the later half of the series for more opportunities for victor and benji to build a stronger relationship that would have made the ending make more sense.
@@joshglynn7811 Agree/Disagree. He has good skin, but that's' pretty much it. But I feel that the situation with Victor talking to Benji and Derek(Apparently that's his name) is lazy writing, but for different reasons. While I do think that their anger is a little justified, but in all honestly, it's much better that he told them than letting go in blind and getting roasted and embarrassed by the grandparents. Yeah, it was for Victor's own peace of mind, but having that information lets them protect themselves and being able to avoid unnecessary danger. Plus, if they didn't want to do that, they could have just given Victor the present and left. Even on top of that, Benji is kinda fine with doing that with Derek having more issues with it.
Secondly, Derek is older than Benji. It's suggested through their dialogue that he's older than him and I thought Derek was a senior. But then in the finale, Derek says it's weird for him to be at a high school prom. This suggests that he's already graduated high school and may even be in his early 20's compared to Benji's who's 15-16. Comparative to how they would deal with the situation if it got bad, Derek would be way more emotionally and physically strong to deal with it comparative to Benji, who already has depressive tendencies, would take it much more personal and be hurt by it. Also, why does he have to be this much older? It's this weird trend in shows to have gay teenage boys to have much older College level men dating them. It's illegal and manipulative. Which ties into the anniversary thing which is dumb.
I do agree that they should have shown Benji and Derek better and give Benji a real reason to be with Victor( Which has problems on its own with what could have been).

Oooh my god I didn't think anyone felt the same way. I felt the whole time that Benji was never fully developed as a character, so though I shipped him and Victor I never felt connected to Benji in the same way, if that makes sense. He felt so distant?
They should have made Benji and lake hit it off and become friends and give advice to her about Felix.

This show mentions an affair and a suicide attempt, and has "intense" kissing/making out scenes. I'm more surprised that they even considered putting it in Disney+ to begin with.
Well, they have Deadpool on there, so maybe Disney is being more open now.

@@youngfunny1824 Disney+ also has Hulu's Runaways -- which prominently features LGBT characters. Given time, Disney+ would probably do the same with Love Victor (most likely when a new season is coming up so they can generate some buzz).

I don’t like that his family set such high expectations for him. I hoped for a moment when victor would explode & tell people to stop seeing him as this perfect child. He was always so level headed, it was driving me nuts! I think he deserved to release some tension too.

I think love victor is great but i was disappointed that the two other books written by becky albertali (who wrote the book love simon was based on) arent continuing the saga. One book deals with bisexuality and the others main character was straight but had two moms and a lesbian sister.

I LOVED the Upside of Unrequited! I didn’t like Leah on The Offbeat as much just because I really didn’t like her character in Simon vs. the Homosapien Agenda, but Becky Albertalli is a great author and those books are better than the movie or the show, I still really liked Love, Victor tho.
Read “Love, Creekwood”. It is Becky Albertalli’s new book, and it continues the story of the main cast, now in college using emails. It is really good, and I recommend you all to read it!

I really wanna see that show because I relate a lot to what Victor goes through. I’m also living in a lie I created for myself and that affect my loved ones because I’m too scared to admit my failures. I will come out in less than 2 months from now and I’m scared shitless as I’ve promised to not lie anymore to them but the deed is done. And to comeback to living my truth I need to come correct about it. To anyone living with a big secret or lying to their loved ones that might read this : hang in there, don’t abandon life, do not forsake happiness for yourself and know that sooner or later you’ll have to let it go. So make sure to get your shit together and be the one to say it. It’s your truth, you made a decision about it, you’ll have to live with it and it’ll always be yours. I believe in you and wish you the absolute best for the future. You’ve got this !

I just finished the show today and I loved it so much. The amount of tears I shed is embarrassing. Me being Latina and also bisexual who is also from texas, I could relate to certain things, especially the way the family handled homosexuality. It was basically the same way mine did. And even the other characters had things to relate to such as funny quirks but also just really deep and personal issues. I'm so glad they actually gave the characters depth and i really really need a second season
The one difference between Love, Simon and Love, Victor is that Victor’s friends have a justified reason if in Season 2 they lash out bc Victor was truly TRULY hurting them by lying.... meanwhile Simon’s friends well..... lol
i LOVE the show. Felix stood out to me and I like to see where his character is going
I thought the dialogue was kinda corny at some points however it wasnt a bad show and I really want them to build up on the show and take any feed back they have gotten and improve and note PULL a riverdale and say oh you didnt like this cool let's crank that into 1000 instead
It wont definitely happen. It doesnt even have as many episodes or time than Riverdale first season, hence why the plot is so simple and straight forward.

The most unrealistic part of this show for me was Victor finding Benji more attractive than Felix.
For real, but don't forget Benji is gay and Felix is not.
No matter how hard he tries Felix could never give off the "gay" charm which is one of the most attractive things about gay men.
However I wish for the second season to introduce second gay love interest for Victor to contrast Benji. Right now Benji (and his ex bf) are the only openly gay guys at school.
I think there could be even better match for Victor than Benji don't @me.

My problem with Love Victor was that there was so little Victor. They spent so much time on the side characters. Also bisexuality is... chill you know lol but don't get me wrong I love that Victor is gay.
Me too, i thought that with this show with we would finally get a lead to tackle this bi boy erasure in media. I mean don’t get me wrong either, I’m happy he’s gay but I was surprised. I kinda felt like the message that being sent was on you only be on side one of the spectrum or the other, idk maybe that’s just me
It even gave off the bi colorsss. This is just Damn confusing at this point but I'm still happy for him just really another way for the public to get another version of that journey.

There's a show called 'Halt and Catch Fire' which features a leading Bi man. It's mostly a drama about building a tech company in the 90's so I don't know if that would interest you, but they get pretty straightforward about his bisexuality in the first couple episodes. Also, 'The Politician' on netflix which is a great show and has a very sweet mlm storyline with their bi male lead. The storyline starts in highschool too, so it's semi-coming of age.

I loved this show. It was definitely better than Love, Simon. I loved how they went through Victor's growth of confidence. I also think it's important to focus on how much the family puts on Victor to be the glue that holds them together. As the oldest, I feel like we're always seen as the kid that can "handle it" while the second oldest or youngest kid is allowed to feel the emotions brought on by the parent's issues. I felt that part of the show was so powerful and really resonated with me.
I can never think of anything useful to comment, but I like your videos so here's hoping this helps with the algorithm.
Here me out... the guy who plays Victor looks like a teen version of Mateo from Jane the Virgin.

I had heard Victor was going to be bisexual and I was so excited for this. There’s so little bi representation and the trope of him cheating on Mia could have easily become him struggling with real feelings for both

If you want to watch another show that focuses on Latinos that is on a streaming service is Gentefied on Netflix. I believe it was renewed for a season 2 so I highly recommend everyone giving it a watch 👍🏻

Honestly, I like how Simon and Bram & Roomies give advice, ‘cause that’s how it felt to read the book. Simon and Bram just kinda text back and forth being like “so how did you not fuck yourself up?” Over and over to varying success. It’s like Victor is taking that journey with you.
Anyone else think Andrew was into Victor?
When I was 3 or 4 episodes into the season I had this theory that the very last episode would be Victor finally giving up on Benji and then finds out Andrew is gay and is secretly into Victor, revealing that his mild bullying towards Victor in the beginning of the season was really Andrew trying to find some excuse to talk to him(causing things, hoping it would lead Victor to talk to Andrew). Of course after finishing all the episodes I was way off on my prediction.

Love, Victor, THE BEST American BL series of 2020. Thank Hulu !!! for being forward thinking unlike Disney Plus even though you have had already other BL shows in the past. I am hoping that Love, Victor continues to be a BL series and not an adult content drama. We need a series of love.
