For longterm use in the backcountry I use a pvc 1 1/2 inch pipe with a rubber cap. This works great with heavy snow loads. 8 pounds on a polk sled is nothing plus 40 more pounds split between the sled and my pack.

Unfortunately that tent does not have sod flaps which are very crucial if you are using the tent when it is actually really cold enough to want to use a wood stove in it. One persons opinion who has been using hot tents for over a decade. Send it back now and get one with sod flaps. ua-cam.com/video/_YE5BxYWwlg/v-deo.html
Sod flaps seal the bottom so when its really cold the tent will actually hold the heat.
We use our tent for winter rafting and kayaking trips, such as in February on the Dirty Devil in southern Utah when it is sub 20 degrees F at night ua-cam.com/video/R3S41iRoXHo/v-deo.html

It has a snow skirt if they ordered it along with the tent. luxe-hiking-gear.com/products/octopeak-4p-tent-system

    • @jshappart
      @jshappart 3 роки тому

@@medscript88 No, based on their video they ordered the version with a stove jack only. You can order a version with a stove jack and snow skirt (which is is typically referred to as sod flaps in the hot tent/wall tent world). The snow skirt/sod flaps are not a separate piece, they are sewn onto the tent so if their video doesn't show sod flaps then they didn't order that model.

Yup nice light tents. I am supporting your channel and look forward to watching more of your videos. Here in Northwestern Ontario we do loads of hot tenting but generally leave my 5 man arctic bell tent up all winter. Have had my prospector tent up to 40c in Jan/Fen during coldest part of winter, but loading stove every 30-45 minutes and being vigilant at loading the stove with good wood is key....Take care Fred

Oh love the enthusiasm of your winter plans. I too have Luxe tent ,meganhorn, bought it last yr, can$... ouch. I like to go winter camping by myself and a friend. I love it. Been camping in my back woodland yard in different situations, mainly for stove pracise, not as easy as it seems. I pull a pulk sled system
,6lbs tent and a 19lb stove plus gear and water. Love the exercises 👍.
Yes it does keep u warm, started at -10°c and 10 min later 10°c😊. Couple notes, #1 cut more wood than u need is the best advise, stoves are hungry, and titanium cools quickly.
#2 become good at finding GOOD dry hard wood,or you'll find out why..
.#3 pole becomes easily knock on tarps, if that gets shifted in the night by a leg, well not good. make a small dent in the ground or bring a small piece of wood with a notch out for the pole to sit in also keeps it from sinking👌. peace of mind.
#4 dont stir up the coals in the stove, thats how sparks fly up the pipe, and land on that light material. 😩😡. Well that's what tape is for.
#5 enjoy the moment when u wake up after a snow storm and u first open the door, breath taking.....
Luxe tents customer service is less than good.. I had my stove pipe jack in the first time and the material riped in the precut hole overnight with snow melt shifting and wind. 😠 My email back, sorry u damped your tent no, replacement for u.
Thought the material would a little stronger then that. Can't wait for the winter camp experience review video, like the extra element to the channel 👍👍.

3 people with gear is going to be tight.....Always seems like there is plenty of room, but .once the sleeping pads or cots get laid out, moving around becomes an issue, due to a lack of head height . That'll be nice for 2 and a stove. Just use a sturdy branch out in the wild as a pole if youre worried about the extra weight . Now , answer my text about the invite I sent you, and bring that tent set up to NH in March

I got the 3W stove as well. Overall, it does what it's supposed to do, but it's just not that much of a secure setup in my opinion. The pipe just sits loose on the damper. A stove that weighs 4lbs for $245 ($290 with the leg base) is still nice to have, but I'd probably invest into a Pomoly next time. Also, the customer service of Luxe is a total nightmare, they don't seem to care at all.

For the larger cousin to that -- the Megapeak XL -- with the same stove, I've easily maintained 70+ degF in 10-20 degF outside temps. With regular wood. If you use wood pellets, heaven help you; it would be a sauna. Just note that there's almost no way to stretch the fire all the way through the night, so you'll need to restart on a cold morning. Have fun, HT'ing is awesome in the Midwest winters.
