OHHHH YEAH!!!! Let's do this thing!
Can’t wait to see the trip videos. The base camp idea for hunting or fishing trips sounds sweet.
Excellent ! Can't wait for you guys to try it out - I'm thinking Dan is wishing you would have had this in the Smokies...
haha that would have been nice
😂😂😂😂
For longterm use in the backcountry I use a pvc 1 1/2 inch pipe with a rubber cap. This works great with heavy snow loads. 8 pounds on a polk sled is nothing plus 40 more pounds split between the sled and my pack.
Nice to see you pulled the trigger on the tent. Looks like a good setup the modularity of it is a big plus.
My goats will be carrying this setup for me
Outstanding! I’ve been curious about hot tents, as well. Very curious to see your future videos!
ITS ABOUT TIME! WOOT WOOT!
A Hot tent... man up. 😆 🤣 😂
That's awesome, can't wait to see this thing in action soon. Wood processing is what you should be practicing. Thank you for sharing, take care.
I knew you’d have one before long. Sweet setup!
Thanks!
Very excited to see this. My current dream setup is going to be the Luxe mini-peak with a Pomoly mini stove. So looking forward to these videos.
Yes!! Been waiting for this one!
Unfortunately that tent does not have sod flaps which are very crucial if you are using the tent when it is actually really cold enough to want to use a wood stove in it. One persons opinion who has been using hot tents for over a decade. Send it back now and get one with sod flaps. ua-cam.com/video/_YE5BxYWwlg/v-deo.html
Sod flaps seal the bottom so when its really cold the tent will actually hold the heat.
We use our tent for winter rafting and kayaking trips, such as in February on the Dirty Devil in southern Utah when it is sub 20 degrees F at night ua-cam.com/video/R3S41iRoXHo/v-deo.html
It has a snow skirt if they ordered it along with the tent. luxe-hiking-gear.com/products/octopeak-4p-tent-system
@@medscript88 No, based on their video they ordered the version with a stove jack only. You can order a version with a stove jack and snow skirt (which is is typically referred to as sod flaps in the hot tent/wall tent world). The snow skirt/sod flaps are not a separate piece, they are sewn onto the tent so if their video doesn't show sod flaps then they didn't order that model.
@@jshappart ah, okay. The website isn't clear that these are attached at the factory and can't be removed. I thought they were removable extensions. Thank you!
This will be fun kev
So, when does the Schill Bros. Bushcraft channel kick off? 😆 I've been fighting the same bug for about a year too, although not the lightweight version. I think Fred is going to want to borrow your setup. He seemed to like it. Take care, guys.
Owww! I did too, just purchased a hot tipi. And THANKS to you guys, ya helped me with my titanium stove.💥 👍👀
Very cool. Me and my dad have always wanted to take this style of tent to setup at elk camp in the rockies. Its awesome to see how light and affordable they have become. Excited to see how this works out for you guys.
Just went on my first real winter backpacking trip and it is really a different experience than in the other 3 seasons. This style of camping looks very comforting for cold winter nights.
Awesome!! My wife and I have been thinking about this.
I just got the exact same setup. Going to try it out in the yard this weekend. Can’t wait to watch your hot tent videos.
Good luck!
That thing is GANGSTER!
My wife and I live in Western Alaska set up the Octopeak with a Kni-Co Trekker stove. It was -5°F with 15 to 25mph winds. We had a hard time keeping the tent above 30°F. Really awesome tent but does have limitations.
Thanks for sharing Cory, this is going to be a huge learning experience for us
Hey bro great to see you again. Hope you had a great Christmas and just wanted to wish you a very Happy New year and may 2021 bring you much success, joy and happiness. Stay safe and catch up again real soon.
ohhh shiiiit here we go! Congrats on the hot tent!
Thanks!
Took ya long enough! Lol can't wait to see it in action.
Throw a stove Jack on one of your other lighter tents.
Nice 👍. Have fun.
Sweet!
Currently waiting on our GStove Lavvo from Norway to go with our GStove.
Looking forward to the fishing trip videos.
Congratulations on your purchase, Enjoy. May need to shovel snow around the bottom of the tent. The weight savings deleted the snow guard on this model.
Good point. We did opt to not purchase the snow guard, but that may be necessary
I have the same tent but with the snow skirt. But with the snow skirt version you only get one door.....i'm in Mn so wanted the skirt. I went with the winnerwell fast fold titanium stove thou.....enjoy!
Awesome!!
Yup nice light tents. I am supporting your channel and look forward to watching more of your videos. Here in Northwestern Ontario we do loads of hot tenting but generally leave my 5 man arctic bell tent up all winter. Have had my prospector tent up to 40c in Jan/Fen during coldest part of winter, but loading stove every 30-45 minutes and being vigilant at loading the stove with good wood is key....Take care Fred
I’m so happy for you guys. When can I borrow it?
„Winter backpacking is pretty cool“ - It literally is ❄️
Congrats guys. I know you were not gunna be right till ya pulled that trigger.
Way to go! Luxe would be the tent I would pick up as well... Not sure about a titanium stove though. Can't wait to see the adventure!
Oh love the enthusiasm of your winter plans. I too have Luxe tent ,meganhorn, bought it last yr, can$... ouch. I like to go winter camping by myself and a friend. I love it. Been camping in my back woodland yard in different situations, mainly for stove pracise, not as easy as it seems. I pull a pulk sled system
,6lbs tent and a 19lb stove plus gear and water. Love the exercises 👍.
Yes it does keep u warm, started at -10°c and 10 min later 10°c😊. Couple notes, #1 cut more wood than u need is the best advise, stoves are hungry, and titanium cools quickly.
#2 become good at finding GOOD dry hard wood,or you'll find out why..
.#3 pole becomes easily knock on tarps, if that gets shifted in the night by a leg, well not good. make a small dent in the ground or bring a small piece of wood with a notch out for the pole to sit in also keeps it from sinking👌. peace of mind.
#4 dont stir up the coals in the stove, thats how sparks fly up the pipe, and land on that light material. 😩😡. Well that's what tape is for.
#5 enjoy the moment when u wake up after a snow storm and u first open the door, breath taking.....
Luxe tents customer service is less than good.. I had my stove pipe jack in the first time and the material riped in the precut hole overnight with snow melt shifting and wind. 😠 My email back, sorry u damped your tent no, replacement for u.
Thought the material would a little stronger then that. Can't wait for the winter camp experience review video, like the extra element to the channel 👍👍.
What did you use for the seam seal?
one of the most pita stoves to assemble on the market nice!
what stove do you use?
@@SchillBrothersOutdoors i use a few, bt for backpacking i got a winnerwell fast fold titanium. never used the 3w but ive seen lots of vids and those wingnuts look like a pita. are those threaded rods/legs even titanium ive also always wondered.
I gotta find out what you guys think of this after using it in the field. I have issues with the space when using a wood stove with 2 people and sleeping pads, they tend to stick out of the tent due to the shape.
Damn that looks cool, dead wood rules where I camp puts a bit of a damper on things like that though
How you’d connect the two tracking poles ? Never heard of this option? Is there some trick to that? Please let me know. Would be very thankful.
What good is a stove that handles 1 tiny log. Won't burn log enough to last anything
$800 for the full setup is a tough bullet to bite. I'm sure the decision becomes easier when it's 20 below.
very very true
Guys just bring a ice sled !
That would be nice, we would certainly consider it if there's enough snow
Does the titanium cool down pretty quick?
it's funny to think years ago 8lbs was lite for a tent lol
Yes it was
3 people with gear is going to be tight.....Always seems like there is plenty of room, but .once the sleeping pads or cots get laid out, moving around becomes an issue, due to a lack of head height . That'll be nice for 2 and a stove. Just use a sturdy branch out in the wild as a pole if youre worried about the extra weight . Now , answer my text about the invite I sent you, and bring that tent set up to NH in March
What’s going on in March ? Blah Ha ! 😂😂
I thought i saw Andy at the Capital building !! 😉🤣
lol!
I got a shoutout!!
Yeah you did!
I got the 3W stove as well. Overall, it does what it's supposed to do, but it's just not that much of a secure setup in my opinion. The pipe just sits loose on the damper. A stove that weighs 4lbs for $245 ($290 with the leg base) is still nice to have, but I'd probably invest into a Pomoly next time. Also, the customer service of Luxe is a total nightmare, they don't seem to care at all.
Definitely as about as light as it gets unless your doing solo.
Yeah, for a hot tent we're pretty satisfied
consider hauling your gear on a kiddie sled if there is snow.....
Yep, using a polk could be a good idea
Now you have to steal one of Bryce’s tarps for a floor !
very true
That tent is almost as hot as y'all are.
It's close
Here’s the description for the next video:
“Despite outside temps in the low teens, the Schill’s manage to successfully consume large amounts of BBQ, perform a strictly scientific Bourbon comparison AND produce a high quality video - all while sweating profusely in their new hot tent. Hit the like button” 🤔🤓🤣
Generic Hiker that sums it up
I own a hammock hot tent that'll make you jealous. ;)
Yes that does
Myog or commercial?
Smokehouse Outfitter in 30d silnylon. About 3.5#
Pooling your stimulus checks...smart move
I'd love to have a hot tent up here!
You're in a prime location too
Well shit!
Hello Bud missing your videos. Happy New Years. Take Care and Keep Exploring The Outdoors.
Kevin is going to freeze my ass tomorrow
@@fredschill1182 🤣🤣🤣🤣... nah...you'll be in your Bermuda Shorts!!!
RESTLESS OUTDOORS had a beer waiting for u
@@fredschill1182 🤣🤣🤣🤣... looked like an amazing night!
lol looks like you talked your wife into it finally!
You guys are going to like that.
I just bought the twin peak from Luxe with the stove. We can't wait to try it out somewhere this winter.
For the larger cousin to that -- the Megapeak XL -- with the same stove, I've easily maintained 70+ degF in 10-20 degF outside temps. With regular wood. If you use wood pellets, heaven help you; it would be a sauna. Just note that there's almost no way to stretch the fire all the way through the night, so you'll need to restart on a cold morning. Have fun, HT'ing is awesome in the Midwest winters.
Also recommend running a creosote-cleaning log through it every 4-5 nights of use, just to keep the titanium stove pipe in good shape.
Just ordered the megahorn and the 3w stove... couldn't be more excited.
So hot right now
I know Barefoot Jake! I used to make him coffee at The Port Angeles Farmers Market. He is an amazing guy 👍🏼
lol
I've been eyeballing the Luxe Megahorn and you jerks aren't helping!!! I feel like I am cheating on my hammock but I've been seeing rumors that someone other than OneTigris is designing a hammock hot tent!
