We had so many questions prior to RVing to Alaska. What were the roads really like, would we have any cell phone coverage, will “no reservations” really work, what’s it like to drive for days and days, etc etc.
Before you plan your RV trip to Alaska, watch this video to get all the details and read our blog that includes; route information, fuel log, where we stayed, and how much it all cost.

Some of the comments on the blog requested more information on the costs of the activities, tours and guides. That information was just updated on the blog in addition to our fuel & lodging costs. We also added our favorite places in Alaska and the KYD Best of Alaska list. www.keepyourdaydream.com/alaska-recap/

Thank you for your dedication to not only the lifetime adventures but to inspire others. I went from a divorce and not sure how to face the new world to having a partner and a Dutchman bunkhouse travel trailer and anxiety of how to live with it. Your videos have inspired me to want to really explore the world we live in. Thank you for your efforts in editing, ideas, and your wonderful lists you share!

This was a great video! Many of us out here, some that already have an RV/TT, but are still 'newbie's', and those who are 'contemplating/planning' on buying; this is such important info. to know, before considering that long journey to Alaska! I have wanted to go there for many yr's., the #1 reason is to see/photograph the Bald Eagle's, (and of course other wildlife/nature). However, I can see now, I would need to invest in a larger battery bank, as I only have a 12v. Also, if I were to invest in solar, I would definitely go portable, as it is too difficult for me to access the roof, (I don't even have a ladder at this time). Since my only income is SS, it would be necessary for me to boondock most of the time, (which I prefer). This being said, and turning 70 in 2/19, and many physical limitations, if I don't get to make that trip, at least I have 'been there' along with you! Thank You!!

Well, there are multiple climates to Alaska. Fairbanks gets as much precipitation as eastern Colorado - 11 inches and that includes snowfall melt. When you were near the coastal towns, the rainy weather was because that is their regular fare. Anchorage and the Kenai are the same rainy foggy as Seattle except it is colder ( but not at all colder than Green Bay ). To get fewer rainy days, simply have more travel days out from the coastal rain forests and spend more time in the (sub)arctic deserts around Fairbanks.

I visited my daughter in Ketchikan September 18 - October 3rd and it was beautiful. Only about 5 days of rain when I was there over a 2 week period. Ketchikan is only accessible by plane or boat. It's the first city out from Seattle by cruise ship. They have 1 million visitors from May 1 - September 30. It was a ghost town on the days there were no ships in port. The climate is more temperate and its often warmer there than my middle Tennessee home on some winter days.

While I was visiting Thailand, my friends and I toured with the locals. One of the things we discovered was that if you did not stay in the touristy parts of towns and hotels, and spent more time with the locals trying to learn about them and respecting them and their customs, they would call you a "Traveler" and showed you equal respect and all of the beautiful places, things and customs that most folks did not get to experience. You and your family are truly "Travelers". Thanks again for taking us along... OLT

You folks are awesome, plane and simple! I was electrocuted at work and have been home mending my broken body. Unfortunately my head is pretty messed up. I didnt have a lot to look forward to until my wife and I remembered and decided that we wanted to RV when we retired. Well retirement is going to start very soon, and your UA-cam channel and your family has helped me and inspired me to look forward to something again. I have a ways to go to get back to whole again but watching your videos is truly helping! Also they are teaching me what I need to properly prepare ASI have been a backpacker, and never an RVer. BTW- I've spent my entire life trying to get to Alaska... I hope to make it in an RV someday after gaining some valuable experience. Yes I heard you loud and clear teachers. Thank you so very much for sharing your life, you really dont know how you really truly put a spark back into my Heart. It would be so great to meet at a campground someday so I can just thank you in person and hug your neck!

YES! Because we consume so much power (even during a single night) not having the ability to charge computers, run the coffee maker and live normally makes RVing much more fatiguing. I might have designed a system ideal for just 2 nights as we seldom dry camp for longer than that.

Hello KYD, we have watched every single episode from day one. I truly wish we can just leave all behind and follow you guys around our beautiful country with our rig. I have 7 more years for a young retirement and RVing would be so much more fun for us if we had no worries to rush back to work. With that being said, watching your videos made us add so much more to our USA/Canada/Mexico tour that when we start our trip it is definitely going to take us more then a year on the road. I will be 52yrs old when our trip starts and we are super excited. We would like to say thank you for taking the time away from all your fun and making these amazingly awesome videos that inspire people like us to put together a bucket list trip. Thank you for letting everyone be a part of your family through video and letting us live vicariously through your family on your exploration and adventures. Hope to see you on the road one day, safe travels.❤

I was stationed in Alaska in the Army an I was stationed at Fort Greely AK. The best duty assignment ever. We went back in 2017 and had a awesome trip. I had brought the Milepost for a few years before our trip, during our trip I never opened it. I’m planning to go back next year, I plan on staying longer this time as it will be my last trip to Alaska. I don’t plan on making any reservations. In 17 I made reservations in Seward at a military campground but the city campground was so much nicer. I have Verizon and pretty much had coverage most places. I’m planning on getting Starlink this time. It’s a great trip. I had no trouble with my fifth wheel and no trouble to speak of with the truck. I’ll probably take a extra spare for the truck as the truck is getting new tires in March. Truck gets around 12 miles to the gallon and I figure 12,000 miles round trip from North Carolina. Diesel fuel cost a little more in Canada, one place I filled up at diesel was 1.99 a liter I just kept on pumping diesel. I figure 100 nights camping at $70 a night. I don’t count food as we have to eat no matter where we are at. You can boondock and save a lot of money plus you can take a smaller camper and truck or car for that matter. Everyone is different

We did almost the same route in a rented RV in June 2018 for our Honeymoon- so amazing! I know I am watching this way late but we are about to buy our first travel trailer and I am binging! The Alaska TourSaver App saved us so much money.

Just completed bindge watching your Alaska trip. I retired from the Air Forrce from Anchorage in 1991. My Alaska adventure began at Galena which was a remote tour (could not take family). My family was in Eagle River and I flew into Anchorage on AF business monthly. I have so many great memories of Alaska and your videos highlighted most of them. I had one overwhelming feeling the intire time I was there and that feeling was "being on top of the world." Thank you for sharing your adventures and bringing back so many great memories.

Great Video but for the love of humanity STOP using rainx. It is so outdated, I used to think it was decent until I found something else. That something else is Ceramic coating and it's where it's at now. Have the coating done on the truck paint and windows. Thank me later when you don't have broken windshields and chipped paint.

I am a Meteorologist in Anchorage typically June and July are driest part of summer, August and September is typically the rainy season. May is a good month especially last half of May. But it does vary as the weather does it's own thing. Like this year we had 2 inches of snow on May 3rd!

Type of RV people in Alaska (we have all been these) 1) novice - don’t know anything and wants you to tell them what to do 2) referral - never been but has a friend …. 3) 1X timers - been there one time but knows everything 4) experienced - been there several times and really does know a thing or two 5) researcher - never been there but has read all the travel books and watched videos 6) UA-camrs - primarily interested in having a way to write off trip and will tell you what you will enjoy 7) Alaskan - they live there and play there and knows all the hidden gems are 8) headshakers - a subset of Alaskan who listen to what the visitor’s plans are and just shakes their head

Enjoyed this immensely. We plan to go up to the Yukon and Ft. Dawson in the Northwest Territories where my grandfather was a Mountie and gold prospector. Have an aunt and an uncle who were born in Whitehorse where a prospector museum exists. My grandmother took the first pictures of the Yukon with a box camera and they are in that museum. Dad was born in Spokane, near Coeur D'Alene where my grandmother was from, but raised in the Yukon. They would hold the boat in Skagway for grandpa Bee because he was so well known. Your tips are immensely helpful, and thank you once again for your abiding enthusiasm, which will get you through whatever "dull care" you encounter. Sincerely, Ron Bee

Question about your fasting. Did you drink anything else but water?? I intermittent fast but have never gone over 24 hours.
My husband and I are learning so much and are saving for our first RV. Thanks so much.

If you go to Alaska again, you MUST go to Dawson City. There is a lot of history and things to see. From there go to Chicken AK via the Top of the World Highway then to Tok.

Remember to compare and say that the U.S. gallon is 3.785 litres and the Canadian gallon is 4.546 litres so there is nearly a one litre difference. :-)

So I am sure you will get a crap load of questions, so I understand if you cannot get to them all. But being that my wife and I fall in that "Nature" category and are planning on flying in and out of anchorage next summer giving us 14 days to be there and we will probably be renting a camper van to travel. What would you suggest be the window we shoot for? Bears would be pretty high on my list, and also would like to do some fishing. Thanks

If you cut Alaska in half, Texas would then be the third largest state. Alaska 1 & 2 still being larger.

I know you heard all the rain x comments, but the one you used was rain x glass cleaner. It has very little of the wax film. What you need is the regular rain x that fills the divots on your windshield it lasts for 1-2 months.
