    I just inherited a 90 year old stovetop siphon my grandmother got on her wedding day. I am hooked! It makes my home grown herb teas amazing!

    Thanks, very informative....I can now see the appeal eventhough it seems to take forever for just one cup. But I do think you can't get it anymore authentic than this. You convinced and converted me. From a Nescafe to a home brewed cuppa.

      You can save alot of time by using an electric grinder if they are too expensive In college I just took the hand crank off my manual grinder and just attached the shaft to the chuck of my cordless drill no arm strain and it grinds alot faster

    This man just called a moka pot a percolator

    • @DonP_is_lostagain
      @DonP_is_lostagain 11 місяців тому +1

      Technically because it is. Scientifically it uses percolation to push water through coffee through a filter and up into the brew chamber. Although it's not what the coffee world considers a percolator.

    Correction:Not gravity but the vacuum pulls the coffee in the bottom chamber.

    How is this any different from a french press, you put coffee grounds in hot / boiling water and then filter out the coffee grounds.

    So what would happen if you took an aloe vera plant out of its pot and dropped it in and did that. and then brought it back to life with a yama cold brew tower. and extracted the aloe vera over again?

    Hi, mate I've seen lots of syphon recipes in UA-cam, but one thing that confuses me is brewing time. I see you just stirr and then turn off the heat while in other videos they let the coffee brewing for 45 seconds, one minute, etc ... So what's your suggestion? Thanks

    • @n30x3l
      @n30x3l 2 роки тому

      I would suggest 45 seconds for dark roast, and 1:45 for medium

    9:10 "break the seal" what do you mean? You didn't show/do anything, it just cut. How do you break the seal? I don't own one of these, I'm just interested and might get one some day but want to know how they work and how to operate them

    • @19ghost73
      @19ghost73 7 місяців тому

      Forget that line. You don't do anything at that stage, the vacuum develops and the coffee is sucked through the strainer/filter into the bottom caraffe. When all coffee has gone through, air is sucked in and the vacuum is gone. All happens without the need for the user to do anything so far.
      Then your remove the funnel and enjoy your coffee. Beware: It is most likely very hot!

    I think the cover for the flame is placed up side down.

    • @glenn2595

      His windscreen is upside down, the way he has it is how the burner is stored. Regardless of the windscreen the problem is his really low flame, It started from barely a tea candle flame to a stronger flame later in the video. My guess us he probably had the wick too low. He says he is using methanol which is a great fuel, so it had to be wick length. Here in the US we usually use denatured alcohol, but our gas additive HEET, the yellow bottle, is methanol and some people use that. I get no soot with the HEET and negligible soot with denatured alcohol, but I use the later due to cost. I've tried Isopropyl alcohol and ended up with a big cleaning project as the bottom glass gets really black. When I bring the water to a boil and pour it into the pot, it takes less than 30 seconds before the water starts working it's way up. the spout when I introduce the flame. If he is using a cotton filter you have to boil it first and cool it off. It should be damp when you put it in the siphon glass so you get a better seal. I just cut and fit a paper coffee filter, again you have to wet it before inserting it.

    How to load the burner

    • @19ghost73
      @19ghost73 7 місяців тому

      You mean how to fill the burner with denatured alcohol (its fuel)? Just remove the part that holds the wick and pour in the fuel. Wait a few minutes after putting the wick-holder back into place, so that the wick gets fully soaked with fuel.

    What is grind level in coffee

    • @DonP_is_lostagain
      @DonP_is_lostagain 11 місяців тому

      just finer than for a French press. So, pretty coarse, but not as coarse as for a press. I have my Baratza Virtuoso grinder set on 32 if that's any help.

    Can you make tea with this?

    • @DonP_is_lostagain
      @DonP_is_lostagain 11 місяців тому +1

      You can, but tea requires a longer period of steeping. What's often confused is that it's boiling water in the upper chamber, when in fact it's heated air being released by the water boiling in the lower chamber. So, you're tea would be circulated, but it will take longer than coffee. Also, you want to use already heated water in the lower chamber in order to speed up the process.

    Bro Cold water heats up faster than warm or hot water lol

    • @SafetyLucas
      @SafetyLucas 2 роки тому

      So cold water becomes hot water and then boils? And somehow that's faster than hot water boiling? I think you're thinking of that thing about how hot water freezes faster than cold water. Which isn't entirely true. Hot water starts to freeze before cold water, but cold water still freezes solid faster.

    • @chickenladysam4098

      Yeah that's not how thermal dynamics works. Go test it. Get some ice water and pour it in a pot, see how long it takes to boil. Then let the pot cool and do the same amount of hot water. Tell me which boils faster

    • @ryansmurda1552
      @ryansmurda1552 Рік тому +1

      Myth. Not true.

    • @althelor
      @althelor Рік тому

      That's physically impossible. Especially since water is literally the standard used in thermal dynamics because of how consistently heats up. As in the unit of measurement of thermal energy is how much energy it takes to heat water by 1 degree.
      If cold water boiled faster than hot water, then the entire field of thermal dynamics would fall apart.
