RESPONDING TO THE MOST COMMON POSTED COMMENTS HERE:
"Updated mix?"
- You can find their latest stream here: ua-cam.com/users/livepnlCuzvosMk?si=ZNOiy7DzHBezpoRf
They needed a couple of weeks to get their video settings in order and I think it’s a night and day difference!
I DID NOT mix this show. This was all them a few weeks after I left. All they did was run with the settings I left for them.
"Why did you mirror FOH to the stream and via USB?"
- Because one person cannot run video with text cues with every lyric with the songs, graphics and other visual elements for the stream, run front of house AND monitor an independently different stream mix in their headphones without sacrificing monitoring the other things that need to be monitored. I don't even run a separate stream mix for my streams. What you hear on my streams is what's going over my FOH. The only adjustable element to my stream mix is how loud it goes over the streams.
The house tech was a complete novice. This is fine, and I hope he learns more about operating the board, but this setup had to be simple, and there is no way he was going to know what a matrix is or how to switch menus to adjust the matrix volume, not to mention not knowing what to hear for when adjusting a mix or how to use any of the eq controls and effects to make any adjustments that would benefit the mix. With enough practice, he absolutely can change the routing and have a more independent stream mix. He has a VU meter on OBS to monitor the stream volume so he doesn't need to constantly move over to the board or glance at the board to monitor audio levels. I had to make this as seemless as possible for them so he can concentrate primarily on video.
"Did you make a backup of this scene?"
- No. I advised them to make a backup on a flash drive for their records, and they did just that.
"Why compress everything? You're SQUASHING the sound!"
- I use the compressors to sculpt the sound of a signal. Compressors do more than just "squash" a signal. The drums for instance have a 25ms attack, which means the compressor activates 25ms AFTER it detects a signal. In plain english, that means the transient of the hit goes through the chain unaffected, then the compressor evens out the decay to give the tone of the drum a little more "umpth". The drums have between 3-4DB of gain reduction, hardly "squashing".
I applied the same techniques dialing in this band that I do with every band I soundcheck, which you can find a detailed soundcheck breakdown here: ua-cam.com/video/jTrTTxM74bI/v-deo.htmlsi=02lCbA2uREbGEb-u
Dont help churches. thats insane man..
Hi where do I find your email
As someone who work similar situations week to week, I absolutely agree and love your approach on “making it best for the environment, and the people “ you did awesome and I think people usually complain or said something about your approach to things when in reality they have no idea how live sound works. Everyone approaches it differently depending on the environment but one thing we all have in common is make it sound better. YOU NAILED IT!
I was wondering how you know that mixer board so well. I mean I know eq and compression but you went right in and attacked 👍
What are those headphones you use?? Please send the link !
Chris! Thank you for coming and getting us right! We appreciate it. This is Gary btw.
Thanks for being so easy to work with and inviting me out. It was a pleasure.
That doxology singing gave me chills... Great job Chris, enjoyed the video!
how much tax do you pay? how much do you steal from people and how often do you help people? does it balance out?
What kind of cars do you guys drive? its always weird when you see BMWs in front of your church.
@@Skinnamarink. you saw a random bmw parked on a public street and think that warrants this comment?
Someone is being a miserable piece of garbage today…
Do I know anything about sound mixing? No. Did I watch the whole thing? Yes. Kudos
I’m the pastor of this church and I am very very appreciative that you worked alongside my husband and my media team that we are getting off the ground. When I first arrived at my church, I knew I could take them to higher heights. My church trusted me and I in turn trusted my team. You provided a great service to enhance our ministry for some of our sick and shut-in members who aren’t able to come into the building. Your work is blessed and so are your hands. Hilarious introduction video, by the way, your sense of humor is my type. Thank you again ☺️ blessings today and always!
It was my pleasure to help out. Glad you guys are running with the settings I saved for you!
Great! I would love to serve in this media team! Keep up the good work!
That was very sweet and I just found this man’s channel and love it and love to see good in this world. Thank you for being a good example of what ministry is mam. Blessed too you both
please for the love of all that's holy, do more of these types of videos
If other venues or bands reach out, I’d love to.
Agreed love it!!!
You should do one for a church in Philadelphia
You should come to Delaware
@@chrishammillaudiopls I would love you to come to Delaware
bro entry got me interested... will i fix the mix or be cast out like a heathen 😂😂😂
as a contracted church sound engineer, this is the average experience of a sunday at a new venue
I'm here for this and the kitchen nightmares style vibe on the intro, I'm not too far in. Love it so far.
You did an outstanding job on this. Not a religious person but if their stream is publicly available I'd be curious to see if it's still as it should be.
It is. See pinned comment.@@marshallfairbrother7602
Sometimes all you have to run all the tech is someone who doesn't know what reverb is but is willing and available to sit back there. People like you are a blessing to come in, eq everything, and tailor things to be as foolproof as possible to set these servants up for success. ❤️🙏👏
😂😂😂😂 he literally asked what is reverb 😂
What desk was u working with
As a producer I've always wondered how live mixes work! What a gem of a channel to stumble across!
Yup this is it. This is quality content. I’ve never seen anything like this. Algorithm brought me here. Great job man! Hope to see you do more of these.
Fixing peoples live mix! That is a great concept and I'm all aboard!!
People sure seem to like this video. I’d love to make more of these if venues/bands/chuch’s reach out.
I understood your joke man
This was super informative! From the trouble shooting to the quick fixing of gains, eqs, compressors and so on, to explaining what you did to a layperson. Great stuff
Glad you enjoyed.
such an awesome piece of gear, heart sank when he asked what reverb was 💔
Unfortunately, there are plenty of volunteers out there running a sound desk that do not either have the time or the inclination to learn or be trained how to do it well. Never the less, God is gracious and faithful and He blesses us with His presence no matter how it sounds in the natural 😉
Some people just do video and nothing to do with audio.
Nice intro. I popped for the Hail Mary joke. 😂
The “if Gordon Ramsay was a sound guy” comments were flying in my DMs.
“If Jesus heard the sound of these drums he’d crucify himself” got me rolling. People are brutal 😂
@@chrishammillaudiodamn the last one is hard 😂💀
Chris is very funny
I ready hope this snowballs and more people reach out for you to do this.
Considering how well this video is doing, me too!
@@chrishammillaudio Oh wow man I just noticed the views on this video congratulations you earned it hopefully some of them will stick around.
@@chrishammillaudiowhat are your rates
Same here what are your rates? Im in Dallas TX though
The bass player layed out so much funk during that soundcheck, equally entertaining to listen to as it is fun for the drummer during the worst part of setup.
How is it possible to enjoy these videos so much! Thanks Chris, great job!!
Subscribed to your channel. Going back and watching previous videos. This is so needed and necessary.
I've always appreciated audio setups, and had no idea there was a channel that showcases fixing audio problems. I absolutely love this type of work and find it fascinating to learn, I'm so glad UA-cam recommended this to me 🙏
This is awesome!!! I know you mentioned helping a church with their sound but didn't know there would be a video about it.
i love this behind the scene audio and video stuff! thank you for sharing this
Chris your the GOAT. Thanks for your service!!!!!
Even though I do this on the daily, I still have joy watching others techniques and tips. Lovely content.
I like the "Restaurant Impossible" feel of this. I absolutely love fixing bad mixes. This was a tough one, in that there were a lot of adjustments needed. But I love the unscrambling process. It makes it so satisfying to hear the final result
That intro was golden 😂😂
I've just discovered this channel and I LOVE IT
Thank you sooo much, u were a Godsend to my team & I!! ❤️ keep doing videos like these
Your voice was a godsend. You’ve been blessed with that sound. Pleasure hearing it and working with you guys.
This is such a cool idea for a video. As A fellow audio engineer, it’s so cool to see your process when taking on something like this. Thanks for bringing us along!
That sax WAS amazing and so was the player. Very talented player.
God bless you sir.
This is so incredibly interesting. Thank you for the content
I love people who genuinely want to help
LOVED this video. Keep more coming just like this
This is great! Been a "church musician" for years and you have no idea how much this level of support makes a difference! Wish you could come to the DMV! 😅
I recently took over the sound board at this new church, and they have the behringer X32.
I previously used a mackie anoglog mixer.
So now I understand almost everything you are doing on this board. SWEET!
Please....more of these videos....my brother!!!
(Good job 💪😉)
This is so cool to see. I grew up as a church musician and now have been learning studio production/mixing. Live mixing has still always been such a mystery for me; y’all always seem like wizards lol. It is amazing to finally see this side of things and get to understand more of what’s going on. Love this kind of video
I’ve been mixing for a long time in various churches but my most recent is the only place that I’ve mixed a stream. We only in the past few months started doing live music. What I’ve done to make the stream manageable for myself is mirror the mains except the drums. I removed them from LR since I don’t put them in the room. What I do is record all practices and the Sunday sound check, give it a quick listen, make a few adjustments and 🙏 it sounds good. It seems to be improving each time. When you stop learning you start dying.
Story of my life right here. Awesome Chris!
Satisfying work
this is so cool, its like the best way to make audio content, legitimately such a great idea and deed to help people and show it happening in real time. GREAT JOB!!!
I absolutely loved your explaining as you work...i was able to go back in the video and observe AND learn at the same time...OUTSTANDING SIR!
yeah this is so helpful to watch as a foh engineer just getting started, i have no idea how stuff like this isnt already up here on youtube lol this is a whole sector missing on the educational side
It is real fun being an foh, enjoy it
Love this switch of content man, would love to see more types of stuff like this
I’d love to do more if bands, venues and church’s would want to colab.
Hi Chris. I’m in East Tennessee and I do the same exact thing that you do. I’m also a musician so I understand both sides. Thank you for what you do. I’m grateful to know that how I adjust things is almost exactly how you adjust and mix. Blessings to you my friend. Would love to chat with you more!
Excited for more of these videos!
Awesome Chris, God bless you
This is awesome! Great job, Chris!
What a great informative video, like most have said!.. please continue, editing was great. Such a great series, admirable workflow 👏 look forward to the next! Huge respect.
wow this is a great video i did almost every single thing you did here for this local church here, even built them PCs. wish i recorded the process, i just have so much going on i have no clue when i have time to put together the video. this was like in 2022. great vid.
Bro is doing gods work for real
Now if I fully understood how gate and the compressor worked. Even just watching this, this made me see how your workflow works with something like this. We have an X32 Rack Mixer and I also needed my time figuring it out. I used an older mixer before, that lacked a lot of effects, so the x32 Rack Mixer has a lot of features I'm scared of using. Thank you for your confidence and knowledge
this is so cool, glad to see u want to help others and be patient with other people who are not familiar with sound engineering. keeep it goingg
I’d gladly make more videos like this if other venues or bands reach out.
Sounds good, love it.
It seems that church has a great production gear! Im not familiar with consoles that big but i am curious to learn new things daily.. thanks for that great video.
This was a great video! Good job Chris!
Awesome work! Cool to see your process and workflow, even without a detailed breakdown it's helpful! Please make more!
If more people reach out I will!
This is the content I want! Holmes on homes of audio! Do MORE of this! Thank you
Fingers crossed more venues reach out!
And fixing this was worth it cause they sound amazing
Awesome!
sda in the house ... great video
This is a good concept for a whole channel
With how popular this video is doing, I’d gladly do it!
I’d suggest you do so now bro!!!
I’ve never seen any of your videos…
But UA-cam’s algo sent me here, because I’m an SDA and a vocalist…
Before going too far I’ve already bombarded all my fellow singers who have amateur engineers at the back of house to watch…
Unfortunately in the typical SDA church, most of the people at the desk and singing, are volunteers and unpaid… so you only get as good as someone is willing to learn… and are d the services to provide their “expertise”
SUBBED!
@@chrishammillaudiothere are so many churches in New York that could use your knowledge
Making more videos like this requires church’s to reach out. Luckily a few have and I’m filming more videos like this very soon.
@chrishammillaudio ..its the perfect format for a channel...congratulations! Obviously, you don't have to stop at churches..looking forward to your content...
Here’s me thinking I can learn how to mix live sound by watching this video 😩 so much skill and technique! Great video!
Thank you for fixing this mix FOH and Stream👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
Loved this! I hope you have the chance to do more of these.
I hope so too
thank god for your work truly a blessing!!!
I appreciate that!
This video remember me a TV Show "Recue 911" with William Shatner Hahahaha. Nice video!
Fantastic video. Loved the theme and enjoyed the content immensely.
Great video. It's soooo crucial to learn everything about whatever FOH mixer you have access to. Most small installs use weather a church, or a small venue uses a X32, Midas M32, Allen & Heath, or a Presonus. Cable spaghetti can surely lead to a disastrous situation prior to the start of an event. Glad that you were able to correct some issues and leave them feeling more confident.
What about everything before and after the mixer? Does that matter?
speaking as someone who hasno experrience in this whatssoever, this would give me a nervous breakdown. sooo many knobs, buttons, and wires. respect.
Love the x32/m32 pa mixers. Some folks hate them but if used correctly they are amazing.
This is the perfect recommendation for the type of content im looking for🔥 good stuff man i subbed before i made it 3 minutes into the video
I really enjoyed this video.
WOW, I've just stumbled upon this Brilliant video.

Loved this vid bro👍. Wouldnt mind seeing more vids like this😅
i need this kinda content in my life!!
bro this is me trying to describe our X32 to anyone in our congregation whenever I'm out for a Sunday lol sounds great though keep it up
19:50 That song is regularly sung in Nigerian churches! Lovely!
I know nothing about sound mixing an engineering but I love watching content like these that show the world the unpopular types of businesses people do, it’s a breath of fresh air from the usual streaming, music video, concert, dance, prank, challenge, public interview style of content creating 🔥💥
Appreciate it 🙏
great content and watching you take something that exists and making it better is a great way to teach while visually learning. I would add a before and after comparison at the end to truly hear the difference. thanks again for the videos!
You are welcome to search for their channel and listen for yourself. They still have some frame rate sync issues because they have multiple video sources, but audio mix is night / day.
This was a fantastic video!! plz do more like it
need more videos like this!
That is actually so cool! I kinda wanna get into audio engineering and this video is pretty cool to watch
Oooh LawD ahhh , Bless the sound guy ahhhh... Anoint his ears aahhhahhhahh.... Use his hands AHhhh. Turn to your neighbour Ahh ... Lift up your hands Halleujahh ahh ahh !!! Praise Jesus Ahhh 🙏🙏🙏❤
Oh lawd ahh, the sound guy speak ahh, he shall give thy 10 commandments ahh. Rule 1, players of the mighty bass ahh, change thy strings more than once a millennium ahh!
Fun style video, big fan.
I really appreciate your content thanks 👍
Beautifully done
You killed that sound mix🔥🔥🔥
The man "over and unders" his headphone cable! NICE! ;)
Reminds me teaching a team running team on their QL5. Although really have to do it longer to get the muscle memory else can easily forget especially for bands!
Great work training is key with the quickness that technology changes.
Gary you're awesome engineer. Just remember that with great power comes great responsibility 😅
Nice! love this.
2 min in and I hate how much I love this video 🤓 I don’t even understand half of this anymore, When I ran sound and played in bands, it was all analog baby recorded to CD lol
Wow amazing, that was great work in this video, I wish I could have you in Massachusetts.
Send me an email and let’s talk. Willing to travel.
The moment I saw those steep stairs, I knew this church would be good.
Felt like I was in a WWE ladder match climbing for the belt.
Great video and great work. You will be getting more calls as other churches view this.
Amazing work!!
Nice sound. Way to go..
