Thank you for the simple and clean presentation. I appreciated the fact that you didn’t tell me all about yourself or show me how to take the deadbolt out of the box.

Great tutorial video on changing the deadbolt. Soooo much easier than doing door knobs and levers. I changed my deadbolt in about 15 min. Probably took this long because I kept pausing the video to perform that step instead of watching the entire video and going along at the same time. Thanks a bunch!

hi so I have used this video to attempt to rekey locks about 6 times. 2 of those times I followed this video and jammed the cylinder. The other 4 I did not listen to the video at all key step and it made all the difference.
The problem arises when I am sliding the cylinder back on to the housing. If you slide it above those mini half holes and then try to turn the key, the pins get stuck in the half hole and you’ve completely jammed your cylinder. Instead, I slid the cylinder on the other side, without the mini holes, then just manually turned them back to the proper full holes.
Has anyone else run into this issue? Am I doing something wrong or is this video incorrect?

What isn't shown are the springs and tops pins the follower keeps in place that line up over each pin chamber in the plug. If the follower is pulled out these parts will escape and will need to be replaced one at a time with tweezers. Do not let the follower come out without the plug to take it's place or you will be unhappy

Thank you for this video, it is very well done. I just an Encode deadbolt for my front door, and a lever keyed entry, and all my other doors are just standard Schlage deadbolts and keyed entry knobs, and the keys all look like the same blanks, so if I'm following this correctly, with this kit, I should easily be able to key all of mine to one of my keys, correct? Seems that way.

I have tried to find 4 sets of Schlage locks door & deadbolt all keyed the same as I lost my keys. I have one Schlage lock set on a door I recently replaced. So for the other 3 I’m going to get sets or individuals & rekey them. This looks like the cats meow.

Reassembling the nut with the tailpiece + c-washer is much more of a pain without the special wrench shown. The video shows removing the nut with the small screwdriver and also using the wrench, but only shows reassembly using the wrench. Given this is the hardest part of the whole process (IMHO), it would have been helpful to show that. Lacking the wrench, having three hands would doubtless require a lot less patience than one must normally expend to get the nut back on while depressing the pin and keeping the tailpiece from flopping around like it was specifically designed to make doing so difficult.

Not that hard with a screwdriver. Put it in a bench vice if you needed an extra hand, not necessary actually.

Your video was very informative logical clear and useful. Is it possible to replace the 5 pin tumbler with a 6 pin tumbler as there seems to be enough space. I have a schlage sense BE479 and after a master key change to six pins I want to be able to replace the 5 pin cylinder with a 6 pin cylinder. If possible is additional hardware needed or other customization?

Can the retaining pin be put in reverse? I have a lock that happened from the factory and it caused the key tumbler to retain the key and not allow the key to be removed. Thank goodness, my door was still under warranty and the repair took just a few minutes. The repairman knew exactly what the issue was when he came out and I showed him that the tumbler would partially come out just far enough to prevent the key from existing in the tumbler.

A quick question I couldn’t find an answer to on the Schlage website. I am hoping to rekey a Schlage encode, smart deadbolt and a Schlage B 60N deadbolt to use this same key.
Is the five pin cylinder on the Encode deadbolt the same or similar to the five pin cylinder used in the B60N deadbolt?
Would they use the same pins if I bought a rekey kit online to rekey these cylinders?
A vendor on eBay is telling me they use different pins, but he doesn’t sound that sure of himself.
    Many thanks for your help.
    Q2: Can a 6-pin key be used with a 5-pin lock?

I did all the steps and had all flush pins, reinserted the plug but was unable to get the key out. What was I doing wrong? Are all the top pins suppose to be the same length? I wasn't the one that removed the pins and springs but trying to put it back together. The key was broken off on inside the plug.

    • @door4942
      @door4942  3 роки тому +1

Top pins should be the same. Did you wiggle the key in a bit? Also make sure you picked the correct bottom pins for perfect shear line

Nice video. Question. If my kids lost the original keys how do I rekey to a new Schlage lock key? (The section in the video where you have to turn the cylinder to about 3 oclock position with the original key to take the cylinder out. The original pair of keys the kids lost. So I'm going to replace the other locks with new Schlage locks but would like to keep the original electronic key pad and rekey to the new locks. Thank you.

Yes, once you take the cylinder apart you can pin it to a new key.

    • @Taint-Bruiser

But you can’t take the cylinder apart unless the key is in the unlocked position, correct? So you would need to lock pick the lock in order to get the cylinder apart. So may need a locksmith. I’m not the pro here though... but you may find it difficult to remove the cylinder with no key.
