YEEESSSS! The swishy swish is back! Don't know why but I missed it. Great color choice has a really vintage look too it. Also agree with the wheel choice. Freaking perfect. Another great job
Cooling the drill & item being drilled helps to help the hole the right size. Overheating can cause the material to cling to the drill & give a distorted hole. Same for tapping. You'll end up with very truncated or stripped thread. Also if something of a specific size needs to fit tightly you don't want to be able to throw it in from 5 miles away
I have a couple of small plastic Shell petrol pumps that are about the right scale to go with a van like that. Not too many actual Shell stations in my area anymore, but there are a few. Anyway, you may be familiar with a metal filings trick, attract them with a magnet held inside a plastic bag -- the filings stick to the outer bag -- and then turn the bag inside-out for disposal.
Lubrication is used when drilling as when drilling metals both the drill bit and metal being drilled heats up considerably. This can cause the metal being drilled to harden making it harder to drill through and causes more wear on the bit. Lubrication helps keep the metal cooler and to avoid the metal hardening. Drilling at a slower speed can also help avoid this happening.
What an interesting effect you got with the red. I don't know if it looks any different "in person" but, on camera, it looks like an expensive paint job. It's almost like you painted each panel separately. I'd certainly call it a win and maybe try the same trick with some other colours. It's a lovely, simple old casting - a classic Matchbox.👍👌😁
I found a couple of tins, so I'm happy. It might have been fun to put the 'Trojan Records' logo on it - that is how the Reggae label got it's name - the founder used to carry records in a Trojan van, to the sound systems on the Island of Jamaica.
In the drilling process, oil is mainly used to help evacuate the chips, "so you don't snap it" and for cooling. Which does of course make the the bit last longer.
Well, I think it looks fine. Those of us who have had a lot of the classic Lesney castings from the '50s and '60s in our lives know that the obvious decals are completely authentic to the period. These kids today with their expectations set by modern-day precision tampos--in _my_ day we were lucky if they were even on straight! That's the way it was and we liked it! Get off my lawn! :)
That is definitely a perfect casting for restomodding! :) Looks like it would make a great UA-cam channel shop truck as well! Love how it turned out! :)
Fantastic restoration as always, Shell not in yellow? I love vintage cars, for me are the best, thank you for share and God bless you, a friend from Perú 👍🏼
Don't think I've ever seen that casting before, looks loads better now. Have you tried Microsol? It softens the decals after you apply them and they blend in better
😱😱😱😱 Oil allows for heat dissipation by reducing friction. Heat on a drill bit dulls the bit faster. Always use oil. Then... you used your bare hands on metal shavings. I'm losing my mind over here. 😆
Rob you mentioned your chrome pen in this video. I have 2 of them and both have stopped working. They still have paint in them. Its like the tip gets hard or something on the end and it quits painting. I can press it on to an old piece of plastic and the paint will pour out of the tip and I use a brush. Have you ever had any quit working?
An important van in reggae music. Really? I hear you say. Yes.Mobile disco's called sound systems in Jamaica would drive around the island and one such sound man was a certain Mr. "Duke" Ried.He was known as Duke Ried the Trojan as he carted his sound system around in a Trojan van. Chris Blackwell, who's family is of Cross and Blackwell baked beans fame,is a Jewish Jamaican who founded Island records and many reggae records were put out on the Trojan label directly related through Duke Reid to the Trojan van.Bet none of you were expecting that !!

Hello from south africa once again….that van turned out great Rob….take care and be safe
Looks great Rob! Those wheels fit perfectly! Have a great weekend
That is really clever drilling out the posts before removing the rivets.
I have not seen anybody else do that.
Great job. It’s great to see you back I haven’t seen a video in a while from you thank you again I hope everything is well
The tapping process never ceases to amaze me with something this small. That three-in-one stuff comes in handy for many many things.
Never boring Rob!
Very cool your type of tour is getting bigger and bigger
definitely went from shabby to shiny. turned out awesome
That is a lovely little van that is I really do like the colours
Decals looked like that right up into the 80’s. Don’t beat yourself up. It’s a good restoration! Paint is probably better than original! Good job!

Nice one Rob 👍, great job on the Trojan Van

Love it! I might have to search Ebay for that casting ... could be a fun custom!
Nice restoration and paint job 👍👍
Never a boring moment watching your videos
Nice one Rob, color turned out great. 👍🏻

Nicely done mate. Looks really good

Well done, Rob. Nice color and wheel choice.

Those wheels are spot on. Nice work Rob !
Like always a perfect result!!
Hiya Rob I love the transformation of this van and as you say you got the wheels spot on and got a swishy swish 🤣🤣🤣🤣
That is definitely a perfect casting for restomodding! :) Looks like it would make a great UA-cam channel shop truck as well! Love how it turned out! :)
Unique colour, I like it.
Fantastic restoration as always, Shell not in yellow? I love vintage cars, for me are the best, thank you for share and God bless you, a friend from Perú 👍🏼
Really like the color

Very cool custom van!
Excellent job matey. 🙂👍👍
Don't think I've ever seen that casting before, looks loads better now. Have you tried Microsol? It softens the decals after you apply them and they blend in better

Lesney ton Trojan van custom 1956

tetley tea truck. did one years ago. thrird time lucky
SWEET another 100% paint removal that's like 4 or 5 in a roll .
Beautiful work.
May I ask where you sourced the spares wheel.
Tks,
Tommy.
Nice job with the van mate, not sure you changed anything, but the sound wasn't quite a crisp as normal.
I think I was a little further back from the microphone compared to usual?
Like the wheels
Cute little one
Nice work. Just curious, did you, at any point, consider giving it some plastic windows and an interior?

Sometimes if you pull the tip out you can soak it in thinner cuz all the paint dried out on it, but it doesn't always work
Yes a new video excellent 👍
110% paint removal!!
Nice work, the color is very strange, but i like it you are right, you need to hide those decals edges, because they make work worthless
Hi, Rob! How you decide what kind of paint are you going to use on your projects?
Good question. I guess I just go with what comes to mind first
Nice!
100% paint removal
👍👍👍👍
The colour and the wheels are really great. But the decals aren`t. I would remove them.
The decals look terrible - do you use water or vinegar to put them on? You need some Mr Softer to get rid of those poorly cut edges.
Wauuw mantaap
Epic
Is 1.64 right?
No. Slightly smaller 1/43 - this is an early 1958 casting - originally had Brooke Bond Tea decals.

👍💯💯👍🙏🙏
I thought this was a full size van you were going to put a waterbed in or something !! 🙄
