Full Flight: United Express CRJ-550 Chicago to Cincinnati (ORD-CVG)

- Hey guys! Welcome to a very unique flight I flew on back in March and a first for the channel! In this vid, I go on United's new CRJ-550 from Chicago to Cincinnati! This aircraft is really a retrofitted CRJ-700, but you'd honestly never even know it. First off, they all sport United's new snazzy livery on the outside, but the inside is where it's completely different. There are now 3 classes on the 550: First, Economy Plus, and Economy. And instead of 70 seats, there are now 50 seats onboard. Also, gate checking bags on this bird is no more as there are extra storage bins located in between First and E Plus along with the usual overhead bins. Lastly, there is only one flight attendant compared to the usual 2 found on CRJ-700s. This last change is where I start to be a little skeptical. My flight was extremely empty so there was no problem, but I really feel that if you're on a full CRJ-550, the one FA might struggle a bit to get through all 3 classes. United tries to accommodate for this by including a self serve snack/drink bar for First Class (which is pretty cool btw on a regional jet), but I still feel for the one FA. I guess time will tell and I may be wrong, but just my opinion. As for the seats, they definitely look a lot nicer but do they feel more comfy? Not really. I do like the fact that legroom seems to be better than on most other CRJs though, and because my flight was so empty, the FA was nice enough to let me move up to the first row of Economy Plus which basically has First Class legroom. So in general, I do really like the CRJ-550 and think it's a great addition to the United fleet and a pretty cool, new concept that works well for the most part. Hope you guys enjoy!

I really enjoyed this. I’m a flight attendant based in ORD and I haven’t flown since late March . made me feel like I was going to work again and seeing my fav sushi spot in T2 😪❤️
I hope things can get better for you soon, really hate seeing so many people getting furloughed and laid off 😕

Great video! CVG is my favorite airport in the entire state of Kentucky and my all time favorite Airport!
Last time I was ever at CVG was way back in 2006 before the merger. It was one of my favorite airports when flying delta. So sad to see it decline.

Nice, CVG is my home airport so it's always great to see it in trip reports.
CVG reminds me a lot of Pittsburgh. Used to be a major hub, went through serious decline, has gotten more air service recently, empty at night, tram from baggage claim to airside terminal...it is all so similar!

This is the first trip report I've seen from the CRJ-550 that features the economy/E+ seats. All the other ones have been in first class, so it's good to finally see how it really is towards the back of the plane where I'll likely be lol. Great work!

I've flown from Chicago to CVG many times. I am still in awe of just how massive Lake Michigan is. I don't get to see it leaving O'Hare but I do on my return flight from Cinti. I've ate at that McDonald's before, lol. My flight was delayed getting there so I was "stuck" there for about 14 hours overnight, Oy, it was rough but I made it,lol. My gate to Sioux Falls was just to the left of McDonald's.
Just flew ORD-CVG on Sunday, and ORD was definitely not empty. Also cool seeing N161GJ as a -550, I flew on it in 2015 as a -700

It's interesting hearing the early covid news on the TV before you boarded. Can't believe it is now august and this is still going on. I'm in Melbourne Australia and we are having a deadly second wave, we are in a state of disaster and level 4 restrictions. It has been 7 months since I have been on an aircraft, I can't wait to be able to travel again, even if it is just domestic or to New Zealand. Thanks for your regular uploads! ✈

We flew from TPA to ORD to Fairbanks Alaska a couple years ago. All airports were nice, but ORD was just a little busier and cooler than the rest.

Gotta say, those Mitsubishi CRJ-550s look pretty clean. I haven't seen one up close yet but I'm looking forward to it! I will say it's too bad Bombardier sold the CRJ series though.

Interesting to see a 9 landing at CVG. I connected through there many times on DL. I never saw 9 used. It was always landings on the parallels and takeoffs on 27 or the parallels. I wonder if the captain requested a special clearance. Is the satellite terminal E that Comair used still there?

Fun fact. You’re actually landing in Hebron Kentucky, not Cincinnati. This is why it’s called Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky. You’re 20-25 from downtown Cincinnati Ohio!

You should fly out to RDM some day! You’d probably have to connect, but United,American, Delta, and Alaska fly there, so you should have no problem finding a flight. Although it’ll be more pricy since it’s a smaller airport, Central Oregon is beautiful!

They still treat people like garbage.. Flying in the 70s 80s and 90s were so good.. No fees and all seats had leg room and you got food..

down in ohio swag like ohio sick vid i love planes and i got on to this site called track flight 24 hour and i just hit random planes and helicopter and they are live one time it said one was flying over my house on the mad and it was true it was really cool and i live where there is a huge hospital and they have helicopters and they will show a picture of the plane when you click on it you should check it out it is called 24 hour flight status
