One of my MOST ABSOLUTE favorite Vehicles in Star Wars!!!! ABSOLUTELY fraking enjoyed watching this one right here. Glad to see that you're still going at it here, my dude.
It seems most of them during the war were outfitted with space faring capabilities. Although some of them still have the ball turrets which I believe would still classify them as a modified LAAT/I.
I wish we could’ve seen more of the MAAT and got more of its specifications I remember the first time seeing it in the wii version of Forced Unleashed and thought I was one of the coolest ships ever!
There are many vehicles/ships from SWs that I would want IRL and the MAAT is one of them. Compact but still a respectable tribute to its predecessor. Personally though I think the U-Wing is still the optimal transport / fighter, aside from maybe that one weird imperial dropship from Battlefront 2 (2005). Dont underestimate the value of having a rear gun.
The arc 170 and then the Laat are my fav starships from all eras in star wars... they have that curvy ww2/vietnam aircraft vibe and even the sounds are basically like ww2 twin engine planes (with a bit of meddling with sound mixing)...
Wonder if it's possible to modify one to perform like a shuttle - full spaceflight capabilities and hyperdrive as well as deflector shields. Would make one hell of a bounty hunter ship.
I do feel the stealth gunship crashing due to weather and needing to be scuttled was a reference to the real world event when a stealth blackhawk was downed due to bad conditions in the Osama raid. Nice little detail there
What a great gunship! I love how in the Battlefront II footage, the pilot hits the hanger floor right after taking off. That be how it is, though. Those things were impossible to land in a small busy hanger.
Another fun fact by John Goodson’s Featurette, the LAAT/i’s doors serves as airbrakes for the gunship. In Attack of the Clones (movie), you can see the doors moving as airbrakes.
