I wish we coulda seen at least one scenario where the pilot survives and has to just tag along with the infantry, even if he’s just a background character with a sidearm. I like their helmets throughout the war
Honestly the Nu-class Shuttle would be a better ship for Din Djaren than the N-1 Starfighter, because the Nu-class shuttle besides being fast and armed to face a starfighter still has room for useful things like weapons or things like beds or bathrooms.
I would think the Rho class would be best for him. He could even bring the N1 with one of those by building a tail docking port for the N1 into the container, which would also make a more spacious home he could build inside of.
@@brandtsnakenberg7327 it would! But they clearly seem to want Din to have a fighter hero ship because reasons, even if that doesn't make a ton of sense. The Nu would be better than the N1, absolutely. But the Rho, while not as good as the Nu, could more easily be adapted to lug the N1 around as a parasite fighter, has (potentially) more interior space to use with the spinal compartments and the container being subdivided into a tiny home in space, and would also allow them to sell an additional toy because then they could have an N1 toy that docks with a larger modified Rho toy.
The most incredible thing is that the Nu-class shuttle only costs 85,000 credits, now imagine an Attack Shuttle that costs between 320,000-490,000 credits.
The strange thing about the Nu that took me forever to realize was that sometimes the wings fold in at the halfway point and sometimes not. I'm pretty sure it's an animation error that became canon but you can see it in the Clone Wars movie when Ahsoka arrives and in the Series Finale on the Venator
Could be that the ones that don´t /do fold all the way are a V2, because they were given the order to build the shuttle to furfill the wing folding or not.
I guess one way to look at it, is the the LAAT is roughly analogues to the MI-24 hind Gunships, while the Nu-Class and its successors are more akin to the MH-53 Pave low or the V-22 Osprey, albeit more heavily armed. While there are overlaps in roles, but ultimately there are fairly distinct from one another.
Honestly after the Nu-Class Shuttle introduction I would have converted all of the LAAT into vehicle carriers. When they have loaded off their cargo they would have lost so much weight, in theory at least, that it would make zhem a fast armorment gunboat and truly be usefull in assault missions. It would be reasonabe to assume that the costs being saved on the LAATs loosing sone parts could go into the production of the Nu
Imo the Nu Class Shuttle didn’t make the LAAT obsolete. Both ships are great with niches they fill very well. Also if someone in the Star Wars galaxy did manage to find this ship, I don’t think they’d be disappointed in having it in their possession. Since they could probably easily modify it to fit their needs.
Since the LAAT was largely inspired by the Mi-24 hind, you could liken it's relation to the Nu with the relation between the Hind and something like the Mi-6 Hook. That or the Super Huey and the Osprey.
Ya know, I bet that in a pinch the Nu could still pack at lease 1 speederbike by parking it in the center of the passenger bay. It'd need to be well secured and would impede unloading somewhat, but it would most likely fit. With the forward door, you could probably even do a combat deployment of that bike by just having the rider mount up and drive out the front door. Tricky to do, but possible.
Thanks! I actually am thinking about making super long combo videos on species or ships, character stories, that could be like 10h long to fall asleep too. Idk if this is crazy but I could add like rain rounds too
@@MetaNerdzLore lol no rain sounds please!! But combo videos arranged by time frames like Clone Wars era, Early Imperial etc would be awesome. I think I picked up on one of your videos about how they can travel from a flagship to a planet surface, but not vise versa due to it's limited propulsion power-these details make the toys really come to life!!
I really do love the LAAT, it's brimming with firepower, it's agile, and it's versatile. I think they should have skipped the shuttle and instead given the LAAT shields, thicker armour, and seats. I'd even go for a larger LAAT model that had hyperdrive capability.
there's a reason why in our own history really only the Russian Hind is both a gunship and trooptransport (the LAAT took its inspiration directly from the Mi-24), essentially what makes a good troop transport (being able to qickly and efficiently deliver a useful amount of soldiers to a given target) and what makes a good gunship (heavy firepower, aggressive application to deal with major hostile threats, ability to maneuver freely around the battlespace as needed etc.) are polar opposites. Gunships are pretty much designed to get stuck into heavy fights and probably draw lots of fire, which is just not what a troop transport is supposed to do. Loosing a gunship sucks, but loosing an entire troop load of infantry plus a gunship REALLY sucks. Hind crews in Afghanistan reported to actively dislike carrying troops because it hindered them from being able to do what they considered their primary job, not only did they have to worry about the safety of the infantry in the back but it also meant the Hind couldn't use that space either for more ammunition or keep the troop bay empty and make the helicopter much lighter and more agile/faster. Combining the two roles sounds great on paper but in reality it doesn't work
The problem with making those changes to the LAAT is that, to keep the ship as well armed and to be capable of anything more than very short range space to ground travel you'd need to fit in a whole engine block and fuel cells (the LAAT is a thrusters only craft) and space for life support, the hyperdrive, water storage, consumable storage, etc. You'd either have to massively increase its size, thus making it a totally different class of ship, or remove a lot of its weapons, making it basically a Nu shuttle anyway.
@@VitaminsB1212 the way I see it is that your only using our history, our history has stingers. The LAAT itself has three point defence, four laser turrets(what's the chance of missing with that) and 4 specific air to air. This thing in the star wars universe can fight entire squadrons of Starfighters and as it so did the only thing it feared was direct fire(because star wars). Again, clones follow orders and aren't Russian egos and obviously be it transport or gunship, both will be targeted. The droids always had extra of everything, so the troops coming with its fire support was the best option for landing anywhere.

In my personal Sequel Era fanfiction, it's the basis for the New Republic's Omicron-class shuttle, which is preferred by the NR's special forces units for rapid deployment and ship-boarding actions. Special forces insertions are probably an area where the Nu-class is superior to the LAAT - LAATy is many things, but subtle is not one of them, especially since it has to be launched from a carrier in orbit.

Using orthographic views of the ship also shows that using the 18.9 measurement as length makes the height only about 14m - even with the wings fully extended. Some thoughts 1) perhaps they added survivability with crumple zones? The folded down wings and neck make more sense that way. 2) Perhaps the price of the LAAT included things like missiles or the medical droid? 3) I didn't realize how much empty space is in the thing until now. Perhaps the hyperdrive is in the top fin as well? Or is one of those deals where many small hyperdrives are linked, perhaps on the sides? 4) poor pilots on their chairs. Cheers!
One other issue with the Nu is that it's clearly very space inefficient, the troop bay is very wide but troops only have seats attached to the walls, meaning there's a big open space in the middle that serves no purpose at all. They could have easily either made it smaller and therefore cheaper while also indirectly increasing survivability by just being smaller in general, or increased the amount of troops that could be seated by creating rows of seats in the center therefore increasing it's cost efficiency - both of which would have made it more attractive as a replacement for the LAAT.
Great shuttle, but I still prefer the LAAT as a gunship. Love the design and how they inspired the designs of the Imperial Lambda and Sentinel shuttles.
I think another issue with the nu as a gunship would have been the single small door, get a couple of droids covering it an no clone would be able to get out, so another reason why the laat with its massive side doors was a better gunship for dropping troops into heavy battles
I’ve noticed the empire likes that design. The Lamda has it and they replaced the LAAT with the Nu which has it. I was gonna comment this exact same thing which is why I think it’s better as a behind allied lines transport or for diplomatic missions and or covert missions.
the Nu Shuttle was very capable. The LAAT was simply better as it was designed for the sole purpose of transport and combat. Able to perform both jobs. While the Nu could not as its sole purpose was transportation which it strived at.
mmmhmm. nu cost more, and had no missiles, but it had the escape pod function so atleast pilots could survive, as well as a hyperdrive. like a blackhawk vs a hind.
Seeing that The Bad Batch just ended and the show made great use of the Rho-class transport shuttle now would be a great time to breakdown of the Rho-class transport shuttle
i think the only issue with the nu-class as a dropship is the deployment time and direction of the troops. the LAAT can allow troops to deploy from the side and back. Not exactly something you want when fight a large scale conventional war
One thing is the laat has those beam cannons and missile launchers plus the target computer for those missiles would be expensive I can see the price of that and a hyperdrive being not far off from each other
The Empire didn't forget about dropships. They had the DX9 stormtroopers transport. This this was almost a gunship with the amount of firepower it packed and was incredibly sturdy. But it used more for boarding operations. The gamma class was another very well shielded transport used mainly for boarding operations via its complement of space troopers. The sentinel class, the lambda's bigger brother, also packed a punch while being heavily protected. Plus, it could carry a ton of troops and/or light vehicles. All these aren't really gunships, and the LAAT is better in that regard. But both the DX9 and sentinel are more versatile, more heavily protected, much more independent, and still pack just as much firepower
Tbh, the Nu-class could have maybe worked in a gunship role as well. Just attach the mass driver cannons on the LAAT to the wings. And the ball beam laser turrets we see in the wingtips of the LAAT. Only problem is just that the Nu-class folds its wings on landing, which is kinda giving the enemy a window of opportunity to blast the shuttle out of the sky before the troops can even reach the ground safely yet.
Yeah, I LOVE the Nu. Sure it gives up some assault features but getting those troops to the ground safely I would find MUCH more important. Besides, you can tell it has innumerable modding possibilities so you could beef the weapons load-out if you had desire/means to do so. That mod for the cockpit separation is also ingenious, should the need to do so ever arise. Also, not only shields but also a hyper drive? I'll take two, thank-you! :)
The Nu-class has 3 disadvantages that made it unviable as a “hot” assault shuttle. First off, it’s size. The airframe is *massive* compared to the LAAT, making for an easier target both during entry and while on the ground. We never see a Nu-class land under direct fire and there is a reason for that. Second off, the lack of atmospheric viability. The wings are in a position that would flip the Nu-class during falls without a conscious pilot, while the LAAT has comparably excellent glide characteristics. It also allows the LAAT to “dodge” while in-flight, using it’s airframe to swerve to the side without using generator power. Third off, the slow disembark speed. A front-opened gangplank is a great way to get the troops moving, but unnecessary with trained clones. As a bonus, most LAATs had no artificial gravity or atmo systems, making them even lighter.
Given the fact that the Nu-class retains the same troop capacity as the LAAT/i and the very similar Rho-class has magnetic clamps that could allow it to deploy armored vehicles and supply canisters, it honestly should have fully replaced the LAAT. It didn't really need all the firepower of the LAAT, especially since the Venators carry over 400 strikecraft.
The only issue I could see with the Nu over the LAATi is that the troops all have a disembark from a front-facing narrow hatch, creating a choke point for enemy troops to pick off your clones as they emerge. The LAATi could drop off all its clones via large side hatches that were naturally protected by the sloped wings.
you know, considering how the laat was part of the initial clone army equipment before the jedi first found out about the clones existing, i wonder if the sith plan had them unshielded intentionally to help increase jedi casualties at the start of the war?
With the Nu being better as a troop transport, the GAR should have fitted heavy Shields to its LAATs at the cost of some troop space, and had them optimised in the Gunship role. The LAAT's bring the hurt, and the Nu's bring the troops while the LAATs provide overwatch. Sticking in big Shield generators is not expensive or a difficult modification.
I never cared for this thing until I saw the troop carrier version in The Bad Batch season 3 episode 3. It's not as cool as the LAAT but it's up there as a super awesome troop dropship. The way they rapelled down reminded me of Rainbow Six: Vegas 2.
I’ll do you one better try a R/D-77 Assault Shield from the 2020 Star Wars: Squadrons video game (turret style) on the Nu-class attack shuttle and 💥 shielding for two to four LAAT gunships and on the ground hook up three of their deflector shields in the gunship to walker formation Cody did during the second battle of geonosis (point rain) and double 💥 a instant front line operation base better protected from air assaults to boost😏. What do you think
Personally I'd say no it doesn't, each served different purposes, LAAT's were meant to drop into hot areas, yes some shields would have improved that but it wasn't always practical to sit and wait to take punishment, you needed the maneuverability that the LAAT had, as well as the insane amount of firepower you could dish out, In the end I do agree that the Nu class has its place as a troop safety transport but safety wasn't number 1 when jumping literally face first into gunfire.
Entire video could of ended up 1:20 at the latest. Nu Class Shuttle: Transport first, Gunship second. LAAT: Gunship first, Transport second. No, It didn't make the LAAT obsolete, It has a different role.

One of my favorite ships introduced in the clone wars series. getting a titanium of one of them was like 75+ usd.
Great Video!! Too bad we didn't get to see these in Episode 3.
Love it
I have the transformer Nu class toy that turns into a big Yoda lol
Its a good ship but I prefer the Rho-class variant because the Rho-class is bigger. And I would use it as my personal home.
Great shuttle, but I still prefer the LAAT as a gunship. Love the design and how they inspired the designs of the Imperial Lambda and Sentinel shuttles.
One of the best scenes in Clone Wars, Jar Jar gets a Senator and part of the escort killed
I would have used the Nu as a star wars version of the Higgins boat. Having troops pour out the back while the guns cover them.
It's a good ship then what the Empire now uses. The Nu-class does have better shields and more room for troops and supplies.
The LAAT also has a back ramp as well
@@adamallen7070when was the LAAT replaced with the nu? Was it in a comic or book or the bad batch?
As much as the nu is safer its lack of sizeable doors would mean more of a chokepoint when umbarking the craft
Imagine sitting in one of these, getting shot at, and then seeing your cockpit flying off without you through one of the windows
the Nu Shuttle was very capable.
The Nu-Class and inquisitor Scythe would have made great ships to own outside of military usage. The sort of thing I’d love to fly in universe
I thought the LAAT was converted to Police/Military carriers like we saw in the To Catch a Jedi S5:E19 and Rebels Call to Action S1:E13.
i think the only issue with the nu-class as a dropship is the deployment time and direction of the troops. the LAAT can allow troops to deploy from the side and back. Not exactly something you want when fight a large scale conventional war
When it showed the compilation of the LAAT being shot down, it reminded me of those videos of the same thing but with the Monsters Inc. theme song 😂
One thing is the laat has those beam cannons and missile launchers plus the target computer for those missiles would be expensive I can see the price of that and a hyperdrive being not far off from each other
2:02 I didn't know there were more troops on the shuttle to Endor.
Rho is my fav shuttle with the Nu a close second.
i almost thought i saw the war thunder hud
It always seems no matter how good the ship is the pilot never lives
Make a video on the Rho class please , bad batch flaunted it very much
Tbh, the Nu-class could have maybe worked in a gunship role as well.
Yoda Species, the BOSS' galactic standard for units of freight.
*slaps hood of lambda*
“You can fit two whole dewbacks in this thing…”
My favorite shuttle!!
I love this shuttle
My favorite one is the one Palpatine uses at the end of Revenge of the Sith, it looked so slick.
The Galactic Empire should keep using that Nu-class attack shuttle in the Galactic Civil War for good!
you know, considering how the laat was part of the initial clone army equipment before the jedi first found out about the clones existing, i wonder if the sith plan had them unshielded intentionally to help increase jedi casualties at the start of the war?
Are you gonna make a video of the rho-class transport shuttle? 🙂
Can you do the High Altitude entry transport next
The 6th guy who died only died because Jar Jar was being an idiot and he had to get up
I mean shuttles and gunships served two completely different purposes, so it wasn’t a replacement to the LAAT
I have a several questions. But first can i ask if the Nu class can be a mix with shuttle and gunship then can the Lambda shuttle can ?
I loved this shuttle
I never cared for this thing until I saw the troop carrier version in The Bad Batch season 3 episode 3. It's not as cool as the LAAT but it's up there as a super awesome troop dropship. The way they rapelled down reminded me of Rainbow Six: Vegas 2.
I hope Lego remakes this set
This Nu-Class Shuttle isn't just for show!
140 Yodas, If you can catch them all
I didn't know that yodas were pokemon
What’s ur background Music, I can’t find it anywhere?
The only reason they survived the Desix crash cause of the Plot Armor, no way personnel can survive a crash at that angle
If you modify shields onto an LAAT it'd be much more survivable.
I feel like comparing the NU and LAAT is like comparing the US Heuy or Blackhawk to the C130
What Programm did you use for the Model?
Personally I'd say no it doesn't, each served different purposes, LAAT's were meant to drop into hot areas, yes some shields would have improved that but it wasn't always practical to sit and wait to take punishment, you needed the maneuverability that the LAAT had, as well as the insane amount of firepower you could dish out, In the end I do agree that the Nu class has its place as a troop safety transport but safety wasn't number 1 when jumping literally face first into gunfire.
It's a fine ship, if a bit expensive. Only the militaries would even want a Nu-class though, and maybe the rich if they find one useful
Entire video could of ended up 1:20 at the latest.
Nu Class Shuttle: Transport first, Gunship second.
LAAT: Gunship first, Transport second.
No, It didn't make the LAAT obsolete, It has a different role.
YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY FINALLY
Maybe 🤔, though I prefer other sci-fi shuttles😂
I always liked the Nu class shuttles over the Jedi attack shuttles
I had the Lego for this.
