At age 65, I did a mini-version of Colin’s walk when the pandemic started. I called it my Walkabout and (because I was missing my fitness classes) on weekends I would walk 9 to 10 miles over about 5 hours starting from my front door. I got to know some of our town’s neighborhoods intimately and also would briefly visit my son and daughter who live on opposite ends of town. I really enjoyed those walks. I must say it was weird jaywalking across 4 lane roads with zero cars around! 😊

    12-hour walks are epic! 😍
I used to have hundreds of 12 hour walks and ended up walking 20,000 kilometers or 12,427 miles across 22 countries in 4 years and 3 months. 😅
Love you Rich! I'm listening your podcasts daily! You are my absolute favorite podcast host in the universe!
Sending you lot's of powerfully positive energies!

It occurs to me that as a solo backpacker, I routinely do a series of 12 hour walks. I attributed the benefits to the exercise and exposure to beautiful natural places, but perhaps the psychological/introspective component was more important than I realized.

Listening to Colin talk about K2 is the most gripping thing I have ever listened to. I was listening driving home from work and had to sit in my car to hear the end. So sad but he is so inspiring. I loved this pod and I’m looking forward to walking out my door and having a 12 hour wander around Edinburgh

I have spent most of my life alone. The Covid barely affected my life at all, but for being forced to wear a mask at Walmart and the like. My gym was closed for awhile which made my lonely life louder. I spend my cleaning, organizing, beautifying. That, bed, TV, radio / podcasts.
The one good thing about my wasteful unknown unheard inexperienced life is Covid had a minuscule affect onme.
It was surreal to see people wearing masks. Moreso that so many actually believe it was/ is a healthy option. THAT realization heightened my torturous feeling of being separate and apart.

I truly enjoyed this show. But, it would have been more meaningful if we could have heard more about Jenna. Every time she would get into telling her story her husband would interrupt her…so, we didn’t get the full depth of her walk. I would love it if you did a podcast just with Jenna so she can tell us more about who she is and what her convictions are outside of her husband’s dreams…which she supports beautifully.

I met a couple that were heading to Baffin Island to do BASE JUMPING... they wanted me to come along and hang out at the base camp and photograph all the jumpers... we started planning and I was working at raising the money, A few weeks in they returned from a "JUMP" where one of their best friends jumped and did NOT get his chute open in time and died instantly on impact... they showed me photos of the Memorial they placed ... and at that point I said forget it! Not something I really wanted to watch. I have some admiration for Thrill-seekers, however Life has many facets and we are NOT all supposed to climb ... or Dive, or Jump... there are many many beautiful things in life to experience. This couple will hopefully find the extreme joy of the birth of their own child and life will no doubt change for them.

As trivial as it feels, I too am painfully disappointed as world wide the language is getting destroyed by sloppy use..words that become fashionable. Such as - really- actually- oh my god.. & how the interesting it is that sex, a lot of us highly value for fun, procreation, to find greater joy, for self expression & to extend compassion, has been fouled & dishonored by becoming the fuc_word in conveying loss, anger, death, deep hurt, even to describe ones high level of stoke. Its
as if we want to appear to have zero care for caution & sympathy for the words original meaning & intent. When I find myself coming close to inaccurately selecting words, I make a practice to stop, examine my motive & select the most honest word not the present day faddish clinged to trash word. After a year now, Im fairly consistent at talking honestly & sticking to being polite.
