    Thank you Rich. I listened to the latest editon (second visit) of your podcast with Tony and I was hooked. It was what I needed. I have now read the Be more human book and have been watching and listening to everything with him in it. Also following many of the practises for feet health ( I love going barefoot or on my vivo but my toes were still very stiff) sitting practises (I already had a ground office space but needed some support in how to get to the squat) and running posture (I run looking at the floor, my hips are allso stiff). However this interview is the best. I love the way you allow people to tell their life stories, as you did in your book finding ultra, they have space to open their heart and soul and show the human in them, their journey. I feel blessed having your podcast in my life. Lots of of love and blessings to you!

    Squatting in public or even at home is not the norm for our culture in the USA. When I was in my 20’s living on a hippie commune was the first time I saw people squatting to rest and talk. It looked so cool and I loved doing it. It felt primal and earthy. I’ve done it some ever since, am in my 60’s now. Other cultures never lost it. Also I figured out long ago the benefits of having a hanging bar in the house. Hanging from tree branches also works. Inspiring guest!

    about being barefoot, ... I've been walking barefoot a lot, forever, and one developed caluses. Just start being out side barefoot on sidewalks and in time, you can begin to trust your ability to step on smooth places (a metaphor for life) and avoid hard places to step.. running barefoot, you only need a 2x3" smooth and or, a quick light step on a pebble is over before you know it, onto the next place to step.. you can do it.. Just give your self and your feet time to adjust, build thicker skin.. calluses, and the trust that it's not such a big deal. bring small back pack and put your light barefoot shoes in the pack incase you get to a place you don't want to walk barefoot.

    Totally neutral observation, want to share: while Tony specialised in “movement”, you can see how much more alive he is in his seat in the beginning, however after 2 hours of interview it’s clear who specialised in being an endurance athlete. As Tony is bonking from sitting, Rich looks like he merely just finished the warm up. Sitting in a chair and focusing on a subject is not an easy skill and needs practice too. If only there wasn’t the problem of lower back disorders!

    Tony, we are down the same path. One thing I haven't pinpointed yet and meditation is what do you feel drives hesitation and people. Procrastination, that sort of thing . I trust what you say, because I feel I can identify the same light that is in me. I feel that way you have the say comes from a place purely of finding answers. When I meditate I call that place the Room. Please let me know, also do you envision that place as a Room for you? For instance I feel like you can step out of that Room in your Subconscience, or you can blast through the ceiling, or you can sit in that Room To clearly organized answers to questions. Does anybody know where I'm talking about? I am finding this all on my own with lots of hard work and close to 10 hours of meditation A-day . Trying to find somebody else who Has found the same things. I feel a need to discuss these things I discover almost Lake wanting to solve a math problem In completely pure nature. The thoughts become so deep it is very hard to share with anyone who hasn't at least attempted to go down the same path which takes such a tremendous commitment sometimes it can be disheartening searching

    Learning about wild and natural methods can be interesting but to presume that it's the right thing to do because it's wild and natural is an appeal to nature fallacy.

    • @robkrabbendam8004
      @robkrabbendam8004 3 роки тому +6

      It's probably the right thing to do because human beings aren't meant - physically - to sit behind desks, slouch on couches for longer periods of time, not doing exercise to strenghten muscles, etc. There's nothing natural or wild about that knowledge.

    • @JordanDinstrumentals
      @JordanDinstrumentals 3 роки тому +1

      I'm not being skeptical of movement but rather the assumption that natural technique is optimal. For instance when picking an object off the floor it's natural not to bend the knees which is terrible for the lower back, this is why I'd rather copy the running style of a refined athlete than of a tribal hunter gatherer.
      Also when it comes to what mind and body are "meant" to do, I think we should be a little bit careful. Whilst it can certainly be an indicator towards healthy choices as in the case you mentioned, there are examples where following our default wiring isn't beneficial.

    I like the rewilding, he seems an OK human, and there is some merit to psychodelics too, but... The guy is delusional. Like many before him, thinks of himself as an ex-addict but relies on regular drug "ceremonies" (and progressively "magical" healing methods too) to process the same problems again and again. Every time he describes a ceremony, he makes it seem like it was a breakthrough, which it clearly is not. He calls this an equivalent of psychotherapy, but what he likely needs (like many of us, no shame) is some real psychotherapy indeed. Not flights to shaman meetigs. It is scary how these people lose touch with reality whiile becoming increasingly confident they have "real truth" to share and charge for. They are just inefficiently managing their own mental issues rather then exploring the universal but deep insights into reality... But it sells well enough.

    Agree with a lot of this way of life very interesting. Letting your children rock climb unassisted and “going to the edge with them” I don’t agree with. Hunter gatherers lived a very short life compared to us and so will your kids if people take this away and actually start “going to the edge with yours kids”. Very interesting that people still like to live with nature though.

      Well I volunteered at an orphanage in Guatemala and kids would climb massive coconut trees (4 years old ) and knock the coconuts out. Little kids that were hardly walking would jump of second story roofs into the river and swim like fish. They had no mummy or daddy telling them it was too dangerous. I still think about that stuff. Having a spiritual ritual around feasting on the death of an animal who obviously wanted no part in any of your lives is severely stupid. Wanting to be a hunter/gatherer while doing 23andMe DNA tests on the internet is so idiotic as well.
    A lot of what he says is positive, like living a minimalist life and moving more, but the spiritual woo-woo used to condone spiritual sacrifice of an animal is really absurd.
    Hunter/gatherers also raped eachother and did human sacrifices, should we condone that now because they did it?
    Shouldn't we move towards a more peaceful life with total harmony with the world around us? I'm sure we should!

      Not killing animals is kind of condescending if you think about it. Respect means treating others as equals. Animals kill each other in nature, if we stop doing the same thing then we are inherently asserting our moral superiority towards the rest of the animal kingdom and towards nature itself, wich is a form of egotism and athropocentrism. That being said, I'm pretty much against our modern way of killing animals in an industrial fashion, because it totally divorces us from the act of taking a life away and from its consequences. When people go to the supermarket and buy a steak, they forget that that same steak used to be part of a leaving creature that had to be killed in order for them to be able to eat it. Killing a leaving creature should mean something.

      @@distermaer no. I'm just saying veganism is inherently anthropocentrist, that's all. By being vegan you are inherently asserting your moral superiority towards other animals. I'm ok with that, just saying.

    • @distermaer
      @distermaer 4 роки тому +5

      @@matriaxpunk No, it's exactly the opposite. Veganism is inherently about not being superior to any animal on earth, therefore we value their life.
      You on the other hand exert your ego on the defenseless animals you eat.
      You clearly haven't thought this through very well have you?

    To the general barefoot community, I question the benefit of this conversation. Yes, it is an interesting life story, but does it provide credibility to the arguments in support of barefoot running? In my view, no. I mean, as mentioned in the interview, people already tend to look sceptically upon barefoot shoes/barefoot runners.
    I guess, I do not get the whole “purification/elevation” process with the help of numerous DMT trips. He was an addict before, doesn’t this simply mean that he’s back to square one? Unfortunately, the notion of barefoot running as a nutcase movement is only supported here.

      My main disagreement with your statement is that if running shoes were essential, why are there so many injuries when you wear them.
      Learning to run barefoot teaches you proper form because there is nothing to hide behind. When you run in shoes, people tend to heel strike which causes a lot of damage. Barefoot running corrects a lot of the problems that emerge when you run with shoes. Whether you want to stay barefoot or not I believe is a personal choice, but everybody should learn how to run without shoes to understand the basics of running.

      Meditation or drugs, or spirituality can bring you to that brainwave( calming high frequency) according to studies I’ve seen, any of those have been found to work, monks can be in that mood with their eyes closed.. as for running barefoot, the only supporting ideas I know of is most pressure points in the foot according to Chinese acupuncture are connected to your whole body.

      The human body evolved to be able to walk and run barefoot. We are designed for it. Adding clunky shoes and sedentary lifestyles atrophies our innate abilities to some extent. We can get some it of back, and most of us will be better off for doing it.
