Hey Rich, some people lead with words, some by example. A rare leader combines these with effect like you have. A decade ago I read your book. Five years ago I became a vegetarian. Six months ago I committed to a plant based lifestyle. 23 days ago I gave up alcohol for good. Today I began therapy. Although you don't know me, you have been with me for each of these steps and for that I am eternally grateful. I hope one day to run a trail with you and share words of thanks, but until then, Rich, thank you for showing me what is possible when you commit to leading a life of purpose, kindness and improvement.

Honestly, I don’t know the guy’s personal history, but this video doesn’t offer much substance. It tries to portray the story of a wealthy, successful individual overcoming addiction as if it were the pinnacle of human struggle. The dramatic filming style and over-scripted dialogue make it feel insincere, almost manufactured.
This narrative might resonate with those from affluent backgrounds who’ve never faced the true hardships people in less fortunate circumstances encounter daily. It seems part of a trend where well-off individuals frame personal identity struggles as monumental challenges. But let’s be real: if you have access to rehab, fresh produce, and therapy, your difficulties-while valid-aren’t necessarily admirable feats.
To those finding this ‘inspirational,’ remember there’s a hefty dose of marketing at play. Relativize your problems. If you’re fortunate enough to have these opportunities, take a moment to reflect on global suffering. Gratitude can offer perspective. There’s always someone facing far worse who doesn’t have the luxury of such support systems.

@@LéoVital-s5v I love Rich Roll for his gentle wisdom and his veganism, but I have to agree. Not only do economic disadvantages create far bigger barriers to overcoming addictions, but also, knowing how many people (and even children, and babies), are not given the chance to even LIVE a life, let alone experience the beauty of the passion and resilience they would have had, if not for the current genoc1de. And I haven't heard a peep on this topic from this corner yet. I hope I'm wrong about this. Peace.

Hello Rich, from reading Finding Ultra, which in IMHO is undoubtedly one of the best books I have had the privilege of reading.
It's changed my life in various ways as I have burned the candle at both ends living and partying at a frenetic pace during my teenage years, in my twenties, and my thirties, and it wasn't until I reached nigh on forty I decided to take positive action.
I'm fifty years old, and my lifestyle has dramatically changed as I no longer drink anything alcoholic. I am making the transition to becoming fully vegan.
Also, I've successfully run several running events and completed two 50km ultramarathons.
Thank you kindly for producing your podcast; it's positively affected me and enriched my life.
Great appreciation and thanks to the Salomon Team for creating and showing this inspiring film.

Separation is one of the last great illusions and lessons for humanity and this civilization. He is you. We are him.
“We are the world. The world is you and me, the world is not separate from you and me. There is a common relationship between us all. We are the world essentially, basically, fundamentally. The world is you, and you are the world. Realizing that fundamentally, deeply, not romantically, not intellectually but actually, then we see that our problem is a global problem. It is not my problem or your particular problem, it is a human problem.”

"remember this… growth is your purpose, growth is our purpose, its a life long process, its not a destination, nothing is ever static. This is your path, it is not for the faint of heart, but it is the path. Be patient, be kind, have faith, and get to work. I can’t wait to experience what you make of it. Because tomorrow is yours.”

Such a common thread about pain, suffering and growth. I too am an athlete (not so much of late) who grew up with the water, then found alcohol/drugs. Continued my athletic endeavors and all the while drinking my life away. I was living a slow death. Chasing the high of the first drink and combined with the high of sport. Sober for 15 years and living a life of spiritual awareness. Stuck by the gift of desperation. We are the lucky ones. Thank you for your story.

Dear Rich, were it not for Finding Ultra, I don't believe I would be anywhere near where I am today. My running journey since I read the book in late summer of 2020 has taught me more than any other experience in my life. I never truly believed I could develop this level of athletic prowess, especially in a sport that didn't resonate with me as a young adult. Beyond the physiological benefits, I now interact with the world in a completely different way -- a higher calling. The challenge of late has been to apply what I've learned to other areas of my life. Whenever I feel defeated, I remind myself to trust in consistency, discipline, and focus -- this equation has not failed me yet. Thank you.

You’re such an inspiration to me. Thank you for exemplifying what it means to be human and to live like a human or rather like a spirit living the human experience.

Dear Rich, I admire your work so much. The inner work. The work you do for others. Sharing other's work. You show is that is it often hard, but it is worth it if we fall in love with the process every day. Thank you.

Running was one of the main things that helped me quit smoking, doing drugs, and drinking heavily. It helped me realize what's important in life and helped me through nursing school.

So, so good! Rich is one of the people I look up to most and when I doubt myself, all I have to do is recall his story to get me to see things differently. His story, truly, is one of the most remarkable about human potential and growth out there. I'm so happy you made this film about Rich; no one deserves the spotlight more.

A spiritual being having a human experience. Damn right. I was insecure to the point of failure after failure and just wanting away from it all. I was never going to be anything but a failure. And now im 49 and I think exactly the opposite. And all family that i pushed away will not take me back for disappearing. They no nothing of me but a failure and a drug addict. Thats not me anymore. My sister wont even acknowledge me. Ignore my friend request on Facebook. But i dont give up. I run. Not from life anymore. I run to find myself a little more each time. Now i hybrid train. I work hard at my job. And Im trying to read more books each week so i can find the passion to write again. To do art again. To live again. Not just to live. But to finally be alive.

Beautiful and raw, but in my view you can’t heal your spirit , only body & soul . Spirit it’s either alive either asleep. That’s what I know to be truth . Tomorrow… it’s not mine : how many people had plans for tomorrow, yet they didn’t make it alive? Today is mine , and today I make the future . Anyway, thanks for the opportunity to hear your story ❤

Rich you can truly be so proud of this artful, honest, vulnerable story about you and your journey. I love the question...are you a spiritual man, or a physical man... it resonates with Matthew 5:3. Happy are those conscious of their spiritual need. Quite profound. Keep it coming. Love listening to your podcasts. Thank you.
