    I hate Ultron in this. In the comics I've read, he seemed unstable, fighting both heroes and villains alike. He was cold, unemotional, and more unstable then Sonic 06.

      King Arachnus
      Tbh I thought he was pretty unstable? Why do you think he was stable? Just because he was a "baddy" the entire movie rather than fighting villains too like in the comics? Isn't being emotional and being unstable sort of similar?

    • @KingArachnus
      @KingArachnus 7 років тому +113

      He was unstable, but not in the same way. He was cold and evil, yes, but he didn't have the craziness I was expecting. It may have just been the comics I've read, but Ultron seemed broken, buggy, and unfinished, while the movie had him feel completed perfectly, but then he was corrupted. He felt like the Terminator in the movie, when I was expecting something more insane and unstable.

    • @davidkelly1507
      @davidkelly1507 7 років тому +16

      Tbh I think it was made pretty clear that his logic was somewhat faulty, his reasoning was misplaced and he sorta changes his mind about stuff, but I get what you're saying to some extent. I think his decisions and ACTIONS demonstrate instability, but he appears calm and collected (almost pretending) as most people who think they are doing the right thing aren't exactly open to the idea they might be wrong if that makes sense, ygm? He was convicted in his actions because he thinks they're "right" but they're obviously kinda crazy

      I know, right? A lot of people had roughly the same complaints: the villains are weak, the third acts are lackluster (since Ironman 1) and the team ups feel crammed. They've been trying a lot harder since the beginning of phase 3: compelling villains, better third acts (Captain Marvel was mostly boring but the third act is fun AF) and they figured out splitting the teams with different missions make the team ups feel personal and they have a functional feel to them. Endgame and infinity War splitted all the characters in smaller groups so the interactions worked much better.

    It's so crazy how any exposure to the MCU fandom starts to distort your viewpoint on things like Quicksilver's death. Like one day the whole fandom somehow unanimously decided that it was the biggest and most tragic part of AoU so that's kind of how I remember it, but then when I go back and actually rewatch the movie, it's like, "Oh, he...he was barely in this at all and ultimately didn't have much impact on the plot." I keep forgetting that when I see so many fans making up these overreaching headcanons like, "OMG CLINT WAS LIKE A SECOND DAD TO PIETRO AND WANDA SO THAT'S WHY PIETRO SAVED HIM AND IT'S SO TRAGIC!" Same with various romantic pairings, with people insisting that two random characters are SO OBVIOUSLY SOULMATES YOU GUYS, until I remember that there's no real canonical evidence to support it.

    Scarlett Johansson was pregnant during filming, so many of her scenes were scheduled early in filming before she began to show. To help hide her pregnancy later in filming, three stunt doubles were hired. This caused a lot of confusion amongst the other actors since, according to them, all of the stunt women looked very similar to Johansson. Chris Evans stated that it got to the point where he would say hello and start a conversation with one of them only to realize midway that the person he was talking to wasn't Johansson. Ultimately, some scenes used CGI to hide Johansson's belly

    Iron Man never really comes out of retirement. In Iron Man 3, we see he has PTSD from the Battle of New York and starts to develop the idea that he needs to build a "suit of armor around the world". That's what he's doing at the beginning of this movie. He's creating a bunch of robots with A.I. so he can put them around the world in case of an alien invasion. The reason he suits up is because he realizes the mind sone Loki had is the best way to get the best A.I. available. If he had never created Ultron on accident, he would have never put on the suit again (unless Thanos came or something).

    The reason the Manderine 'twist' was lame is that it left us with a villain pretty much the same as the villains from the last two Iron Man films. Manderine would have been a type of villain we hadn't seen before in an Iron man film.

  • @blanktiki

    Your comment about the bullets going through Quicksilver and hitting Hawkeye are wrong. Quicksilver did not shield them with his body, he pushed the car in front of them. QS is to the left of Hawkeye and the kid, not in front of them.
    Also wrong about Cap having no arc. Cap's arc in this film follows him trying to find his place in the world and letting go of the past. Ultron tells him that he can't live without a war, which is true and actually shows us a more flawed side of Steve that we have not seen this far. In his vision, he sees Peggy and the life he lost. At Hawkeye's farm, he briefly turns around and looks in at Hawkeye's family. Again, the life he lost/could've had. At the end of the film, Tony retires and considers "taking a page out of Barton's book" and starting a family to which Steve replies "family, stability, the guy that wanted all that went in the ice 75 years ago" and calls the New Avengers facility his home. He is seemingly at peace now.
    I very much enjoyed this movie. Does it have some obvious flaws and wasted potential? Of course. And you make a lot of good points, but I think your "eh whatever" attitude keeps you from really reading into some of the details and depth this film had.

      +Tyler Burgener Wow! I didn't pick up on any of those things at all (and I analyze the shit out of film) I understand where you're coming from but I blame bad directing and editing for both of the points you brought up.
      Me, and probably many movie goers, thought Quicksilver jumped in front of Hawkeye and the kid because the scene was very poorly edited (lots of quick cuts). I've watched the film three times, and I have watched that scene about twenty times as I was editing the review, and never once did I pick up on that. That's a shame because most of the action in the film is comprehensible even though it's not very exciting.
      I also never caught on to Captain America's arc at all because it was very much in the background. The movie is so all over the place that I think my brain overheated.
      I will give the film the credit it deserves.
      +1 for Quicksilver Death
      +1 for Captain America Arc
      However, because of it's terrible execution...
      -1 for Directing
      -1 for Editing
      And we are at about the exact same rating. :P Nice comment though. Thanks for that.

    • @blanktiki
      @blanktiki 8 років тому +10

      +ralphthemoviemaker Yeah you're right about e cutting and editing causing issues with that. And Cap's arc was pretty background, but that's what you get in a film stuffed with so much content and characters.

      +ralphthemoviemaker Pretty sure you were right about quicksilvers death in the review. If you watch the close up of hawkeye holding the kid there is a blue effect that goes by them, and then quicksilver is standing between them and the bullets; therefore, it implies that he pushed them out of the way. There is never any indication that he pushed the car in front of them, and furthermore I don't even think that makes sense. The car is not in the correct position for it to block the bullets, it's just in the background. Keep up the good work, have enjoyed all of your reviews thus far.

    I love how the children's tv show got Ultron right, and this movie failed so hard. In "Avenger's, Earth's Mightiest Hero's" Ultron is cold, calculating, and robotic. He had an intimidating presence, and actually thought through his plans. This one is just like 'oh, I guess I'll just make an army of me and hope it works out. No need to strategize and try to outsmart my enemy. I can just overpower them right?' Meanwhile, cartoon Ultron was willing to change his plans if he saw they weren't working. He was able to cripple the Avenger's multiple times. What does movie Ultron manage to do? Kill a member of the Avenger's that wasn't even really a member. Cartoon Ultron? Get's rid of his biggest threats (Like Hulk and Thor), then distract the rest while he execute's his plans elsewhere, or pick's them off one by one. He only fought them as a group to either keep them busy, or as a last resort. This movie could have been great, but instead, it took the path of what worked before.

      He is funny. He made me laugh when I saw the movie. But I don't want to laugh at Ultron. I want to be intimidated by him. The MCU had funny villains already. They need a great villain again, but threw away their shot. At least for me. If you liked the movie and Ultron, that's fine. I'm just saying that they didn't have to do the same thing again of having a snarky, quippy evil-doer who never quite becomes a figure to truly fear in the eyes of the audience.
