Glock 44. 20,000+ Rounds!

  • After a year+ of shooting, over 20k rounds down range, testing every kind of ammo I could get my hands on and putting it in the hands of multiple different shooters, I'm pleased to report the Glock 44 is still going strong. I had high hopes for this .22 trainer as I had been wanting Glock to make it for years and my sample set of 1 most deffinitely has not disappointed. While there are better "plinkers" out there, if you're serious about becoming more proficient and considering a .22 trainer, this
is hands down my #1 pick. Almost always the first gun I put in the hands of new shooters or old shooters who are looking to improve. In time, I will shoot this gun to the point of failure and when I do ill be sure to give you guys an update.
Hope y'all enjoyed the video. Be sure to like, subscribe and share this video.
If you aren't convinced .22 trainers are worth the investment check out my .22 trainer comparison playlist.

    Nice review, useful as always.
My G44 has just over 9k rounds now. It still looks new. I will check the striker guide but I didn't notice anything when I cleaned it last.
Just bought a TX22 and so far my wife and I like it a lot. My first Taurus, bought it based on both you and Paul Harrell saying it was worth the money.
That said, it cost 300 bucks last month. I paid only another 75 bucks for my G44 the week they came out.
Trigger is way better, I mean WAY BETTER in the TX even with the Glock being modded by a two pound connector. Which lowers the trigger to five and a half pounds. Haven't measured the TX . Straight from the box it's pull is so light I've accidentally doubled.
We have 400 rounds on the TX and only had a couple failures to feed on the second magazine. By the third time we loaded up it was fine.
Have had 4 failures to fire lately, but they were all from one box of Armscor. Failed in the Glock, then failed when I tried them again in the TX... Now that's a dud.
Surprised you like the Smith 22 compact. We bought one as a trainer and the barrel was too tight, it shredded the bullets. It was hard to clean because that ejector gets in the way. Final straw was at 4-5K rounds the firing pin broke, the rebound spring broke. We NEVER dry fired the pistol, that was from use only.
And as to accuracy, the Glock shoots rings around the Smith.
Same ammo, same day, same shooters and we got 3 inch groups from the Smith, 2 inch groups from the Glock, 1.6 inch groups from the TX.
Of course my barrel Ruger puts them all in a one inch ring, but that's not a fair comparison accurized, custom grips sight and a two lb trigger pull on the Ruger.
    Keep up the good work.

Peace brother and sister !she also eats up subsonics even better I swear!

I did not like it at first but then I found the ammo it likes and learned how to load the magazine.
.25 cent trigger job and a $13 ebay ghost thingie. Buffed everything to glass with dremel and flitz, cut 2 coils off the striker spring and polished a little curvature to the striker step.
Put good quality adjustable steel sights with tritium and a flat trigger. Thing is down to 2.75 lbs consistently and can hit whiffle balls at 25 yards till the cows come home

I have bought a G44 recently and I´m very happy with it. Fun to shoot, even for beginners fast follow up shots are possible. I have a Promag magazine, but it breaks my fingertips attempting to put more than 15 rounds in. The original magazines are fine, but 10 rounds is not a lot.
The only modification is the Ghost connector as the trigger came quite scratchy from factory. I guess it would wear in just fine.

When I first bought my 44 I shot it brand new right out of the box, an entire box off Federal Range Pack 40 grain (800 rounds) and had no malfunction. After that I shot majority of Golden bullets box, and I think I had only 2 failure to feed but multiple failure to ejects. Ended the Day with over 1000 rounds shot. Maybe with a little more breaking in and oil it'll run flawless with the trash golden bullets. I swear my finger tips were black after I nearly finished the golden bullet box.

I will never understand why this gun got bad reviews when it first came out. I have 7500 total rounds through my G44. I keep it clean, oiled properly, and well maintained. When I shoot it I keep a narrative and stat range report on the ammo it shoots well, or not, or any gun related problems. I then roll it all up into an Excel spreadsheet to maintain consistency and accuracy. Shooting bulk ammo, I average one “possible” gun failure per 1000 rounds. In most cases, I think my thumb is riding the slide, which I tend to do on other guns. I have never had a failure with CCI ammo. So far, the only ammo it doesn’t like is subsonic and Norma Tac-22, which seemed like it was coated with molasses. Everything else has just “shot”.

Yup. There was a lot of hullabaloo about the unreliability of the 44, but as far as I have been able to see, it seems as if this had more to do with how you held the gun than the gun itself. Some people found they had problems when they pressed the magazine upwards with the pinky finger. Me, I have never had any problems apart from my 44 not liking all kinds of ammo, but that is easily resolved by buying the brand of ammo that it likes and not have any issues whatsoever. Fun gun!

The firing pin lug broke completely off of my G44 at around 7000RDS. My plastic firing pin sleeve slot was curled forward, and elongated about .040". My gun looks more worn than yours, particularly the underside of the barrel, it it has a new striker assembly with 500rds through it, so I'm not even to 8K yet. I bought mine in January when they first appeared in stores. Before it broke, it ran reliably with all types of ammo. I'm surprised your gun went through 21K rounds without a mechanical failure of some type. You must have gotten a really good example.
