      @Bez Nervoze I'm sure that's true, as it is with every human. He goes directly off studies though and even shows counterevidence to things he has a financial stake in when it's necessary. I have more trust in him than most doctors.

      @Bez Nervoze Maybe not, although the book "The China Study" shows the same thing he's talking about. I'm not a doctor so I don't know if it's true or not, I can't verify. I also can't say it's not true, I'm not educated on the topic enough.

    I want to share with you all that the first impact it had on me was to eliminate my cravings and ferocious appetite. I only did intermitten fasting, leaving a 16 hr window before eating again, but then I tried a few days per week of a 20 break before eating.
    It was incredible. I felt peaceful and finally had relief from my cravings for carbohydrates and sugar. I started to realized that all my life, feeling the slightest bit hungry made me panic. With IF, I knew that in fact, when I felt a bit hungry my body was potentially clearing out and recycling wastes cells etc. So I now welcome mild hunger and act on it when I really am truly hungry in shorter eating windows 6-8 hr windows each day. It makes me very selective about the healthiest of foods, as though my body only wants lots of nutrients and tastiness, no garbage. Anyway no pressure but I encourage you to try it.

    To me it just seems that eating unhealthy food (animals, refined) is what causes issues, and people think it's the magic of fasting that heals them when it's just that they stop eating these unheathly foods. If this is the case, then you can just eat a low-fat high-carb whole-food vegan diet and not have to skip meals.

  • @NathanKopilec

    I'd like to know what happened in the water-fasting study. Adverse effects are nearly 100% guaranteed in all individuals who are water fasting. In fact, to a lazy, overweight individual, I'm certain that mild hunger would be an adverse effect (rather than something to simply be expected). So, adverse effects are mostly meaningless with the exception of effects that are not to be expected. A water only fasting group in a clinical setting should easily see significant measurable improvement in blood pressure, blood sugar, and blood triglycerides, and other measurable indicators, as well as some pretty great anecdotal improvements.

    • @NathanKopilec
      @NathanKopilec 4 роки тому

      hilomona I didn't dismiss any data. I dismissed the relevance of adverse side effects because.. they aren't relevant. They're very subjective and mostly based on the claims of the participants rather than being based on data.
      I think the video was good. I simply expressed that I would like to have seen the results of the study on water-fasting because he didn't mention anything about it other than adverse effects and not only is water-fasting ACTUAL fasting, but the purported benefits of going long periods of time, without eating anything at all, are borderline miraculous and I'd like to see more clinical literature on it.

    My doctors warn me against fasting, but I do it anyway because I'm addicted to it. I fast 72 hrs per week (F/S/S) and practice one a meal a day the rest of the week. Only eating two meals if there's a function I need to attend. But as a chosen recluse these are far and few.

    My wife is not vegan and I am. I have been eating more processed foods to not be so different from her, but found myself experiencing bloating and weight gain due to the salts, chemicals, and those non whole food ingredients. I am now eating one large meal with varied vegetables and fruits and the weight is coming down as is the inflammation but my first day was met with some light headedness and a dull brain ache. I am sure that was me detoxing and readjusting to my old favorite non processed foods. I also ride the bike a little every day but the smoke outside makes it very little riding.

    I watched this video a couple of months ago and researched the Buchinger method and clinic. After a successful 10-day cure / fasting, my life did change dramatically. I lost 7 cm of visceral circumference, dropped nearly 7 kg (over 14lb) creating a new lower baseline, and more importantly: my systolic blood pressure dropped by 40 points while my diastolic dropped by 25 points. The physician at the Buchinger clinic also provided much needed minerals which have helped me incredibly, to the point that when my family doctor saw me he could not believe the results and said I did not have to take any medication after all. Thank you for having highlighted this study which in turn brought me to this amazing clinic.

There is no magic about IF, it just easier to naturally eat less on it. If you want to lose more weight, you need to cut down your calories even more. Very interesting video. My wife and I LOVE watching NutritionFacts each morning and discovering ways to be a little bit healthier.
    We have a question:
    My wife and I both take supplements and eat a mostly plant-based diet. Does taking supplements in the morning with water on an empty stomach cause the body to come out of starvation mode when you are fasting? Does the body look at supplements as "food"? Have we been fooling ourselves into thinking that we've been getting the health benefits of intermittent fasting when we take vitamin supplements in the morning on an empty stomach?
    Please let us know!

    With the title of this series being fasting and health, no discussion of the advantages of water fasting? (Yes, yes I've seen the admonitions regarding lean tissue loss etc., in his previous series.) Many researchers like Longo, Sabatini, Sinclair, Patrick, and clinicians like Attia, and Fong have identified fasting not for weight loss but for health span, and morbidity compression.
    Buchinger modified fasting (with taboos like fruit juice!) shows advantages, what about other types of fasting (With taboos like butter)? Ketosis not for weight loss but to help with metabolic disorders? Do these things not fall under nutrition?

      No, the modified fast had better results for the clients' main health complaints. The fasting group was "much better" at a higher rate than the eating group: 36.7 vs 24.2. See 3:19 in the video. Plus some experts claim that the modifications reduce some of the benefits of fasting such as autophagy, BDNF, and Mtor.

      Except that one of the Blue Zones is Ikaria, Greece. Traditional Greek Orthodox folks(and all Eastern/Coptic Orthodox Christians) fast as a community according to the traditional Christian church calendar. We fast from all food the first day of Lent (Clean Monday) (first 3 days if you are extra tough/devout). The Friday (and possibly Saturday) before Pascha/Easter Sunday. The days before Christmas, and Theophany, etc., etc.. Also the morning before receiving communion. We also eat only vegan foods about 50% of the year. Vegan days are Wednesday and Friday, and all days during Advent, Lent, and two summer periods(Apostles, Dormition). [All fasting recommendations are contraindicated for pregnant and nursing mothers, small kids, and ill people.] I've moved around a lot. Whether our church's secondary language is Greek, Arabic, Russian, Romanian, etc. most parishioners keep the fasts (and this is 21st c. USA where Eastern Christians are a tiny minority). So, the old timers on Ikaria doubtless fasted. It's baked into our traditional Christian culture.

      You don't know when you "need" to eat. Just because you're feeling hungry doesn't mean you "need" to eat. Same as if you don't feel hungry, doesn't mean you don't "need" to eat. If you just gonna go by hunger feel, you are surely going to overeat, as you will keep eating a little more and more each time.

    • @gabrielgagne3850
      @gabrielgagne3850 4 роки тому

      Vitamin B right, that hunger feeling is sometimes thirst, so I try drinking water first. I don’t agree with the second part though. I’ve never heard of needing to eat even if your not hungry, do you have something to back that up vitamin B

    • @vitaminb4869
      @vitaminb4869 4 роки тому

      @@gabrielgagne3850 Eating when you're not hungry simply means you eat on a set schedule. For example, if you eat twice a day at 2pm and 8pm, then even if you're not hungry at those times, you will eat anyway, because an hour or two later you will get hungry anyway. And if you end up eating just once a day because you weren't hungry, then that means you just took in too few calories during the day, and that ain't good if you're trying to build or preserve muscle. Too much of a caloric deficit will eat your muscle away, not just fat. It's also better to eat when you're not hungry as you will naturally eat less. When you're hungry, you want to eat everything in sight, and will tend to overeat. Eating when not hungry means you also eliminate that annoying hunger feeling later on for most part. Most of the time when it comes to eat I feel just very slight hunger, nothing crazy. But I also attribute it to eating just twice a day. The fewer times a day you eat, the less hungry you will feel once you settle into such regime.

    • @gabrielgagne3850
      @gabrielgagne3850 4 роки тому +1

      Vitamin B when you don’t have processed food like oil or salt, there’s no such thing as overeating.
      And muscle doesn’t get eaten up that fast, it takes a few days of fasting, the body prefers to burn fat or free radicals when it’s just once in a while for short periods. You preserve muscle just fine if you’re working out once a week and overtime not be in a calorie deficiency, but if your an athlete, one week out of the month you recover, or slow your regimen ect. There’s no need to eat when your not hungry unless you are power lifting...and the average person doesn’t put their body in such stress.
