- Greg Zeschuk of The Beer Diaries visits Real Ale Brewing Company of Blanco, Texas to talk to Tim Schwartz and Erik Ogershok, two titans of the Austin brewing scene. The guys meet up in Real Ale's tasting room for an in-depth discussion about beer!
Real Ale is one of the venerable standards of the Austin brewing scene. They've been around for more than 16 years and make a huge range of award winning beers. We met the guys right after a very successful trip to GABF where they came back with two silver medals. As you might imagine we had quite a lot to talk about, and many beers to drink.

I've never heard of these guys before but since they have a Sunn O))) inspired shirt, it makes me love them.
+Ethan Helfrich you should check out our TRVE episode!

I will. I want to go to TRVE so badly!
Great video. Enjoyed two Real Ales while watching, added Live Oak Pilz, Einhorn and the Brewer's Cut Black Quad to my untappd wishlist, learned that I need to ask questions about the mysterium verum on tap to determine what version I'm drinking, very interesting that Real Ale has a small connection to Victory. Time to see if any other episodes are in my fridge.
Damn I love Real Ale. And I need some in my mouth right now. To the pub!
Awesome video. Love their beers. Need to make a trip out there soon!
Thank for your support! Cheers!
I was emotionally engaged throughout.
i love how both cats in the beginning when interviewed look severely uninterested.
Dang, any chance of getting this up in AB? If not, I have another good reason to take a trip to Austin.
As you likely saw from the video, you can probably only do that in Texas! Which pub did you end up hitting?
That's fairly comforting...:)
Hey Greg, Edmontonian here. When are you going to get back here and do a show for Alley Kat? :)
Yeah - they make some REALLY tasty beers. If you like experimental, over the top stuff the new barrel-aged brews they're doing as part of the Mysterium Verum series are extremely good.
Heh - we'll probably do some interviews around Alberta this summer. The crew is from Austin, so coming to Canada in the summer for some interviews should be a delightful break from the Texas heat!
The Black Labrador in Houston. No Real Ale. . . but Brother Thelonious was there to comfort me.
I'm having a 15th Anniversary Russian Imperial Stout right now. Its gooood!
I'm confused, they're called the real ale company. But their beers aren't real ale. Am I missing something??
Well, I'd say it's less disinterest and a little more apprehension; most of the guys we interview aren't on camera all that much, so takes a bit of time for them to get used to it!
Heh - thanks! I do try my best...:)
damn man, you deflected my hard boiled insult with killa kindness. i didn't have respect for you before but now i wanna have donuts and coffee with ya.
Honestly, we were going to intellectually stimulating this time around.
Yes indeed - a bit of age probably made it even beer than it was last year...:)
what's the intro song
+Lucas Amidon It's "Entrance Song" by The Black Angels. Do you like it?
Yes I do
All of their six pack holders in the background mimic the marketing font, colours, and styles of other breweries. (Troegs, Harpoon, lone Rider, Sierra Nevada, Racer 5, Smithwicks) ALSO, Devil's Backbone is another brewery located in Virginia, but the label font, colors, and style match Weyerbacher located in PA. Why is this so? Why isn't their branding somewhat the same.. all the six packs are different! Colour, font, style.. all different. EHHHHHHHHHHH
Nope - no chance. You do need to go to Austin to enjoy it!
Metal music has no place in the brew house.. Water has memory and metal music is bad for water... Experiments have show this clearly.. Metal has bad vibes.
This isn't Real Ale !
