Destiny 2: What Makes a God Roll Weapon? The Best Perks For All Guns
Вставка
- Опубліковано 18 жов 2024
- This is my guide to god roll weapons in Destiny 2 as of Season 9. It is what I look for when I hunt for god roll weapons. It is very long. I suggest watching on 1.25x or 1.5x speed. We'll talk about masterworks, I'll go over a weapon in full detail and then we'll expand on any nuances for each archetype. Yes, this is literally 26 minutes of me saying Outlaw/Rampage. This video is not going to cover hyper-specific weapon rolls and builds for every single possible archetype. This is meant to be more of a guideline as to what I normally look for in a god roll weapon.
If in Season 10 you'd like me to do individual weapon reviews, please let me know. I find them boring to make and I don't know how much people will really get out of them for PvE purposes since PvE perks haven't changed in years, but if people are watching, then I might as well give my perspective. What I would like to actually do is hunt down unique weapon rolls on guns in Season 10 (maybe Season 9 as well, idk) and talk about their usability. Unique weapon rolls meaning guns that can roll with perks that no other gun of its archetype can get.

I'd love to get an updated version of this video, now that crafting is out and a bunch of new weapons/perks as well. :)
Would love an updated guide to god rolls, some of this is still really relevant - like the idea that you should look for universal rather than situational perks- but lots to update on!

11:04 It should be noted that higher zoom magnification gives a hidden boost to range.
Obviously the zoom will be subjective to the user (and most people prefer lower zoom), but it does have a mechanical advantage.
18:00 Counterbalance is actually a bit more complicated than that. With how recoil direction actually works, you want the recoil direction to be as close to ending in 5 as you can, and CB mod gives 15.
You get better use out of it if your weapon already has a much more horizontal recoil (ending in 0), and it can actually hurt your recoil if it's already vertical (ending in 5). You can find this hidden stat in 3rd party API applications like DIM.

Hey Datto, the Menagerie fusion rifle Epicurean can role with Feeding Frenzy + Kill Clip. Great PvE role
Yup, I got it with Swashbuckler it's pretty good.
Yep got one with: Fullbore...Projection Fuse...FF...Killclip...MW Range...Range is 95. Still haven’t use it once since I got it 4 months ago.
I was about to say the same I got feeding frenzy swashbuckler it’s great especially with this seasons mods and double special ammo builds. I like the fast firing fusions too. IMO there’s no reason to use any shotgun over rapid fire fusions since they nerfed shotguns they reload in animation instead of individual bullets.
They reload in one animation *
@@rameenkashanikhah7042 well there is one two punch on shotguns which is arguably the best single target dps perk in the game.

Especially with your Steelfeather Repeater example, I want to note that S9 pass holders can permanently unlock an alternate fourth perk once they hit rank 92. Based on luck, that can dramatically increase your options with gun loadouts by letting you keep one weapon for different situations.

Ah, 26 minutes of "Get a reload and a damage perk". Gotta love that perk variety.
What else you want in a game where dealing the most dmg possible is the best option
@@ignitron2710 don't miss the point, I think its fair to criticize the perks regardless of what would work best in Destiny, for instance perhaps they could buff all other perks so that their effects are as significant as a damage buff perk. Its really frustrating when defeatists like you simply give up because "damage is king on games like Destiny" and while thats not exactly wrong demolitionist is a perfect example of a perk that helps a build without being simply damage (you get more grenades = more damage and area control)

I still watched this video in case I was missing something. Still loved it because it reaffirmed what I already knew.
Seeing videos like this just makes me wonder how many times I’ve scrapped a god roll when I didn’t really know what I was doing.
I started destiny 2 for the first time ever about a week ago or so, finally made it 1200 but I bet I've made some first player mistakes infusing and scraping guns and armor for whatever. I definitely need to look more into perks for guns now at least.
"outlaw, rampage, the video." fell out of destiny 2 for a couple of years, and you gave me what i wanted to know in 35 seconds. nice
There’s other ways to use your primaries other than just killing things; the new Sundial Sidearm can roll with Demolitionist and Osmosis, so you can get grenades quickly and use Osmosis to deal with elemental shields without burning abilities, special or heavy ammo, was very useful this past nightfall which had a famine modifier
Thanks Datto for taking the time to put this together I’m an average player who does not get to jump on and play as much. I’ve been playing Destiny for a while now and I have always struggled wondering why I die so quickly (I’m suspecting it’s my playing ability), thanks so much :)
A perk to reload fast, a perk to do more damage
Something that I've noticed is that in d1 this wasn't as bad as in d2 or at least it didn't feel like it, I imagine it was because normal legendaries were the weapons that one would farm good rolls to carry you though the dlc and raid weapons were (almost always) weapons with new perks and very good ones so that would make it so it didn't feel as repetitive
You can watch this video in 2x speed and still understand what he is saying. Truly the master of creating content.
Rewatching this video in the era of Fatebringer (Timelost) is a trip. Datto had no idea what was coming.
Great vid! Only issues are that Love and Death can ALSO roll Full Court as well as Spikes and Field Prep. Chromatic fire cannot unfortunately not stack with Oxygen, it only works on kinetics.
TYSM! Just got back into D2, and I wanted know what perks to hunt for and for what guns. This made it simple! Much love Guardian
Recommended this to my friends instantly, this is perfect. Thank you Datto!
Thanks for supplying some quality content, laughs, and gameplay throughout the year Datto. This video is the perfect way to end the year. Looking forward to what you have to offer in 2020 and beyond!
It honestly sounds like...
"Use what fits your style of play." Which really, is kinda the best advice for any RPG. A lot of people point to builds and say this is the best, if you don't use this then you're bad. When honestly a person is better off with something they're comfortable with and can actually pull off.
As a new player, that’s what I’m getting too.
When I first started playing in Season 8, my favorite weapon, my pride and joy, was a black armory prototype kinetic SMG, with dynamic sway reduction and the power reserves perk. Then I equipped the SMG shield breaker mod.
As a result, I damaged shields far more than anyone expected me to. And by then, my power reserves and sway reduction kicked in for the kill.
This made me and my gun behave in an unorthodox way, catching people off-guard.
top god rolls: recluse
Not anymore! Kinda..
Young if you're aiming it's still amazing
Young what do you mean, master of arms is a top damage perk, combined with feeding frenzy and richochet rounds this roll wise is a good example of a god roll smg
Last Hope with feeding frenzy + multikillclip simply is better. Tho, its probably easier to obtain recluse. Not saying its trash or anything, just that there are more options after the nerf now
@@sulidos I think everyone ADS's and goes for crits with almost every gun anyway....
"...this is literally Outlaw, Rampage The Video..."😂👍
Coming back to this video for nostalgic vibes and it’s crazy to see how much the game has changed. 😃😄
I did some extensive testing recently with Handcannons testing how their range stat impacts bullet magnetization, damage for both max damage range, then falloff damage, how effective Explosive Payload is and then also how perks like Slideshot, Rangefinder and Opening Shot impact damage ranges. Right now the range stat itself means very little, a 20 point difference in range stat equals roughly 1m extra in max damage range and then also 2 damage in damage drop off across ranges. Whilst the damage differences may be near irrelevant you do see more bullet mag at longer ranges (30+ meters) with a higher range stat. Rangefinder, Opening Shot and Slideshot however make a HUGE impact to range. With a +2-3m max damage range but more importantly a huge impact on damage drop off. A high range Spare rations (Range MW, Ricochet Rounds and a range increasing barrel) without rangefinder or Slideshot active will hit 44 at 35m but with Rangefinder with a high range roll (only difference range wise was having a hammer forged barrel vs the first having smallbore) deals 51 damage at 35m.
Honestly I’d just like to see a list of every weapon that has random perks and what the god rolls are on them
Just started playing D2 in October, really needed this video. This bro. Subscribed 👍
Multi kill clip and outlaw
Datto noises intensify
My only problem with this video is Fullbore. Fullbore is bad on console because of stability, while you can run with it on OC, the range cap makes me feel like it's not needed.
Now for perks...tbh mostly what I look for is rampage and/or auto loading holster. I like to play support and demolish adds with that weapon masterworked to generate orbs and gain super energy to help my team and be able to swap weapons on the fly and have them reload themselves if im not using them at the time so i can keep swapping around if need be to keep the damage output going nonstop. For me it also helps during boss battles and damage phases. That’s probably not most peoples “god roll” , but it works well for my play style. For my armor my perks are basically selected for grenade and melee regeneration. I tend to focus on my neutral game more than anything with my abilities being used in select situations, usually when I’m focusing on a melee/healing solo build. Otherwise I’m standing my Well of Radiance combined with an empowering rift and unloading on trash mobs, mostly if I’m using Risk Runner and Breakneck with a fast firing Grenade Launcher, Veritys Brow or Phoenix Protocol. Probably sounds dumb to a lot of people, but I enjoy it lol Plus I’m more of a solo player so I like a middle ground between offense and defense and can work well for both solo or team play if done right. To each their own though.
Thanks Datto, very comprehensive guide. I know that this must have taken a very long time to compile so it is very appreciated. Oh and Happy New Year
There are a few guns that can roll with demolitionist and rampage, which is a very nice combo. Gallant charge for fusions and breachlight for sidearms for example. Infinite paths can roll with demolitionist + swashbuckler. I really like those combos. Then I also got the pulse rifle Chattering Bone ages ago with Rampage + Full auto. I like full auto more than I probably should, but it makes guns a lot easier to use for me, so I stick it on when available. That Chattering Bone was a nice find for me and I have used it a lot.
I've been purging my vault lately and tossing or infusing garbage rolls into the better low rolls IF I have them. Thanks for the refresher video Datto!
Under pressure and high impact reserves don't work that way. It is the bottom half of the magazine from the last reload. Spawn with two shots only the second shot gets a boost.
55,352 kills with the Go Figure. Think I was watching the stream when he got in back in Forsaken lol.
Top tree arcstrider, Liars handshake, Python shotgun with one-two and buzzard with swashbuckler! beast of a build!
I'm a new player with under 100 hours player and I called it as soon as I saw the title. "What's this gonna be, Outlaw, Rampage or go home?"
I dropped a few legendaries with these perks and they instantly felt mighty powerful compared to others.

*_"Thier weapons god rolls"_*
Is there a good video for some of these topics in more depth? explaining what outlaw and the other perk actually do, how to tell if a weapon has vertical or horizontal recoil, details on master working and the weird energy stat on armor? new and looking to dive deeper into destiny. thanks!
I know bows aren't super popular, but one thing thats well worth considering with your rolls is how effective 'dragonfly' is as a perk. Given the already high impact, as long as your aim is true, you can pratically turn your bow into a poor mans grenade launcher-with-range.
I've used subtle calamity long enough to rack up over 7000 kills with Dragonfly & Explosive Head as the main perks- by far not the classic 'god roll' perks, but the damage output is actually pretty crazy, even more buffed when you add the 'unstoppable shot' perk with the Osiris Charm unlock.
I have another bow (arsenic bite) with masterworked draw speed, archers tempo and rampage- and it basically lives in my vault unless Im running pvp- my subtle calamity might not be a classic 'god roll', but to me its damn near an exotic bow.
In short- god rolls are only god rolls if it fits your playing style. Dattos video is a good starting point, but only YOU can decide what a god roll means to you.
They gotta boost the other perks to make guns more unique and fun for a general guardian to make the weapon their top weapon to use. For Destiny 1, my number 1 to use in all activities was Angel’s Advocate. The weapon’s main perks were Triple Tap and Explosive Rounds. I always had this gun with me and it helped me solo Nightfalls.
For Destiny 2, I love the weapons, and have a few favorites like everyone else. However, I don’t have a weapon that is my to go to weapon. I use some weapons for certain activities, but I would switch to a different weapon afterwards.
When I swap to different weapons in Destiny 1, it was just to get a taste of the weapon, but it never replaced Angel’s Advocate. My primary slot belonged to Angel’s Advocate. I hope for Bungie to boost other perks to be great as Outlaw and Rampage to make other weapons more of a option whether than just a purpose for certain activities. I remember getting the sniper rifle from the crucible in Destiny that I would use in raids when I didn’t have Icebreaker or sniper rifle from Siva Raid.
I don’t spam Outlaw and Rampage. It’s a good combo but isn’t the only one. I know this video isn’t exactly new, but in Beyond Light, I got a Bonechiller (precision frame slug shotgun) with Range, Firmly Planted and Slideshot. I’m satisfied with it since it offers a different way to play with shotguns, even if it isn’t exactly ideal in the eyes of other players; PvP-wise anyway. Hell, I have a Messenger I use for PvE: Moving Target, Frenzy, Range, Ricochet Rounds and Chambered Compensator. I end up with a highly accurate High Impact Frame pulse rifle with a recoil pattern that gives precision frames a run for their glimmer without sacrificing stopping power or the ability to fire at extended ranges.
Datto thx you nailed it .
You explained the perks even I understood lol.
Have a happy new year
I should note that masterworking weapons will give it the ability to generate orbs on multi-kills, which can be really important in endgame content and build crafting (that's why I solely use masterwork specials and primaries when I am using Wendigo)
Datto your the best. Period. I’m an experienced player and took your wanting knowing what you were gonna say yet still found this video entertaining. Love you
That duke at 11:07 is givin me destiny 1 vibes with the perk tree
What I like to keep in mind for perks is synergy. Even perks I don’t normally care for work if they pair well with another.
Ambitious Assassin is something I don’t look for, but I kept a Steelfeather that rolled it and Multi Kill Clip.Or Proximity Detector and Surrounded on Calus Mini-tool.
I'd be really keen for an updated video on this topic.
Great video man! Thanks for putting this together.
Swashbuckler is insane on Slug Shotguns for PvP. Bodyshot + Melee, gives you a kill and 5 stacks of swashbuckler. Then you can 1 shot people to the body with a slug shotgun afterwards for a few seconds, refreshing the timer with each kill.
Stability is slept on on many weapons and archetypes on PC, even in PVP. Using Patron of Lost Causes as an example, a roll like rapid hit/steady rounds/arrowhead brake or chambered compensator or extended barrel/stability masterwork is going to make the gun shoot flat as a pancake. This type of roll is a crit-pummeler in PVP -- exactly what you want. While range perks can make a gun feel "crispy," in this case, the gun has plenty of range on any map in Destiny without them and the overall buff to stability is extremely noticeable. A counterbalance mod will aid this particular weapon too but if you're low-manning/solo'ing 980 NF's like me, a different mod is required. There are many good rolls of this weapon but I'm highlighting that roll because these are perks not typically sought after on PC and yet it's better than any version that has a bunch of range.
Point is, PC players: Sometimes it's range, sometimes it's not. Don't just scrap guns in this sandbox because they don't have range. Range in D2 is great, but quite often not optimal. Especially for PVE. Range is also a very "alpha" stat if you know what I mean so it's easy to have bias towards it. Everyone wants to be longer than the next guy. It's also easy to listen to some of the more flaky talking heads of Destiny (not Datto) and absorb some of their theories as gospel. Test your guns and trust your findings if you really wanna min-max weapon rolls. Some of you have probably scrapped hundreds of optimal rolls on all kinds of guns because they didn't have any range. I've done my fair share for sure.
This ^ Many of the weapon we try to get MAX range just get 2-4m more but Stability or even Handling stat impact a hell of a lot more.
Lmao I always get the Outlaw/Rampage on guns because obvs. But SECRETLY I feel more joy when I get a good Dragonfly roll. Those are usually my for fun, goofin’ around guns that end up with thousands and thousands of kills. I know it’s not Optimal but it feels so good to use!
Halfdan-D is my go to. Range of a sniper with decent damage in an auto rifle. Mine came with outlaw, tactical mag in a high impact frame. Also great for pvp!
in my area, you posted this exactly at 00:00 1/1/2020. great job!
Thanks as always for the guide, Datto!
Thank you, this was just the video i've been looking for! Much needed info!!
Something interesting I found out with my grave robber/multikill clip steelfeather repeater was that getting kills and then activating grave robber does activate the bonus damage. Just thought that was useful.
The new Vorpal Perk is great in Gambit IMO. I don't play the mode a lot but when the game demands it for quests/seasonal crap, etc., it's what I use now.
I love Outlaw so much. To this day, I just love that snappy wrist flick. Also reminds me of that rap line "outlaw, DJ Paul..."
Should say I mean specifically with handcannons.
You guys are never gonna believe this, I got a recluse with feeding frenzy/master of arms AND a Randy's throwing knife with rapid hit/ kill clip! Crazy how that works.
Happy new year Datto!!!!
I think a breakdown of bows would be good with special mention focus on the current state of wishender. By numbers it does more per hit than sniper but less dps than snipers on that same note. And for legendary bows no matter what string or masterwork you use, there is a hard cap with archers tempo. Personal bias in me says bows as an general archetype can use a focus power tuning a little upwards and wishender is not as bad as people are making it out to be, it is more like a better ammo economy, lower dps, higher impact sniper (a makeshift 50-45rpm archetype sniper in a sense).
Echoes the overall sentiment, so many options but very few actually matter
Hoping there's a video showing whether bottom tree Gunslinger with or without Celestial Nighthawk is better.

Its accuracy and stability are near perfect meaning it was a laser before the sleeper stimulant existed.
And then I had the House of wolves, new monarchy LMG the *_Executor X_*
It had again completely maxed stability and range, combined with being a slower rate of fire heavy impact machine gun giving it almost zero recoil and it was Arc damage.
That was infinitely valuable against the fallen.
Weapons of this kind might not exist again
I would have mentioned Tap the Trigger for 2/3 bullet burst sidearms on console. How tight the perk keeps the burst mostly negates the need to buff stability and lets you focus on range and reload. A Smuggler's Word with and without it feels like totally different weapons.
Watching this while grinding for outlaw multikillclip breachlight
Hamidreza Behzadi I got lucky and got mine first try. My buddy is still farming for it :/
Steelfeather repeater with ambitious assassin is amazing. 100+ mag with kill clip ;)
They're all worth masterworking in pve regardless of which one you get solely for the orbs on multis. Getting your super faster and all the other perks/mods focused on orbs and even bounties means masterworked weapons are essential. I almost won't use an exotic weapon that doesn't have a catalyst just because I can't get orbs from it. Oh and the kill tracker is cool also lol.
To me, the perk bonus you get from masterworking is only part of it. Regardless of if you have a "shitty masterwork" that may not be worth the cores on its own, the fact that you can generate orbs by fully upgrading it is essential to consider for a primary. Lots of things like the Recuperation class item mod, Wendigo, the new charged with light perks, etc. depend on constant (or at least often) orb generation, not to mention the fact that it helps your super uptime.
Great video Datto. Happy new year! Hope you enjoyed those donuts you made on stream, they looked delicious.
D2gunsmith looks nice, I would add an option that lets you check armor mods that affect weapons. It would give a more appropriate image of what the weapon is capable to do.

I like that you have a video to watch unlike a black screen some other have in their videos, but someone needs to make a video showing the difference of every perk trait and the power hit points increases speed of running etc etc and compare the trait to the base stats too…
"This is literally the 'Outlaw + Rampage - The Video'". At least you're honest.
Great video. I forsee myself spending alot of time in destiny gunsmith now. Holy crap that looked awesome
I have an Austringer with Demolitionist and Subsistence, which has proven to be much better than any outlaw/Rampage roll I've ever gotten on it. (Take my 10k PvE kills on it as some sort of proof).
You literally never need to reload, and you're constantly getting grenade energy. You also don't really need Rampage because 140's usually kill low tier ads in one headshot regardless (especially if you're using a Minor Spec),
Thanks for this amazing and informative video Datto!
noobs: outlaw + rampage
pros: rapid hit + rampage
If you’re having trouble forgetting to crouch in the heat of battle to Prock field prep or firmly planted my advice would be to play fallout new Vegas. You will be crouching for every time you have to shoot in that game because crouching in that gameMeans you have reduced sway with your guns. Granted sway is not a problem in Destiny but I feel that all guns in the game do you have a hidden benefit to crouching and shooting. I think they all have their tiny little boost of firmly planted or field prep
I like it. Thanks for doing the work, Datto.
I got a Multikill Clip/Feeding Frenzy Steelfeather but since I'm on console, I struggle to use it.
The thing's recoil pattern reminds me of Anguish of Drystan
Counterbalance Stock Mod might help
Graverobber with swashbuckler is underrated. It triggers with ranged melee ability kills.
Use it on bottom tree Gunslinger and get back to me 👌👌
I agree sort of. While some guns damage and reload perks are the best, that have poor amounts or that dont fit the weapon(ex swashbuckler on a pulse). Some will actually benefit more from consistency perks than lethality. What i wish bungie would do is make a penalty for running damage perks(ex rampage gives -10 range). That way people who get weapons with damage perks also have a con to them and they should be big enough to where too many will severely hurt the gun consistency. For example if rampage gave -10 range then instead outlaw/range you might go for rangefinder/rampage. Also they need hits stats that hurt all consoles aka dont hurt stability because that hurts only consoles. They can hurt range, handling, reload speed, aim assist, and maybe even mag size. Right now the main problem is there is no con to running damage perks.
